Dockside avoids most of these maritime miscalculations, but leans into a few of them as well: namely, a lack of an unique identity. There's plenty of excellent looking, sounding, and tasting items on the menu, but none of them give you a clear picture of what story or trajectory the chef is trying to steer you toward, which honestly isn't that big of a deal, if you're just looking for a solid meal. You'll find that here, unquestionably. It's just not likely to be a particularly memorable one. Yes, the salmon dip was good, although there definitely wasn't enough bread, unless you slather it in enough spread to make the crostini underneath it seem like more of a suggestion. Our cocktails were on point, but you can tell that each pour of liquor was exacting and precisely measured, as to prevent any excessive alcohol beyond regulation. And when your bill comes to somewhere northwards of $80 for two drinks, an appetizer and a cup of soup, it's hard to cover that bitter taste in your mouth, no matter how good the stew tastes.
