We attended the Candlelight concert at the zipper concert hall. It is a lovely smaller venue within the music conservatory, this one was featuring a beautiful string Quartet doing classical genres of music with a beautiful twist. We enjoyed all the Beatles songs in a complete different way, it was relaxing, beautifully lit with all the candles and very enjoyable. I just witnessed a grown ass middle aged man chug a Modelo, pour it into audience member's mouth, ask for money, take my money, proceeded to break plates on stage, then go back to conduct an orchestra. While all this was happening, every Colburn Student on stage remained calm and professional, executing the music with the utmost professionalism and care. I came here on my birthday to see a string Quartet play Joe Hisaishi songs. The experience was quite magical. The venue is intimate and was lit up by candle light. The acoustics were great and all the staff in the theater were very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely come back for other performances. read more

If I could give her a 0 (zero) I would. I called on 11/19/2025 at 11:00 am PST, to speak with anyone after 4 calls . Even security wouldn't answer. I left a message with security. No call back. So I called back again and selected the option to "book the hall". Of course they answered on the first ring thinking they are fixing to book....$$$$$. I got this female name "Tristian"........all I wanted to know was where to park. She was rude, short with me and just ridiculously weird. I will never attend anything there again after this event on tomorrow. I am attending with a group and initiated the event so I can't pull out. I am attending the Camerata Pacifica Orchestra event on 11/20/2025 at 8 pm and wanted to gage my time. Just sad how these individuals have the nerve to be nasty and not represent the brand. First time here! Parking was $10 across the street at Disney Concert Hall. Saw CARMINA BURANA and enjoyed it. Beautiful venue, comfy seats, good sound, would come again. Disney Concert Hall had 3-4 food trucks right out front which is helpful; never saw trucks there before so maybe it is new. read more

Came by for the Final Fantasy: A New World intimate concert. Since it's basically one musician for each instrument, it's definitely a smaller orchestra to play the music choices. The Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds concerts tend to be in bigger arenas/theaters (such as Microsoft Theater) and has a projector screen to see scenes from the game. In contrast, A New World is just a few musicians (literally two violins, one viola, one cello, one bass, one piano, one guitar, one percussionist, one woodwind, one brass, one woodwind/brass) and no projector screen. In discussing with the hubby, it seems that he's definitely enjoyed this intimate setting more than Distant Worlds, and I think it's also due to how the Zipper Concert Hall is designed: the sound acoustics are purposeful for these smaller engagements so that you can literally hear each instrument. Yes, there are unassuming microphones above the players, and speakers would be targeted towards the center of the audience, but as long as the acoustic technicians have an idea on how to balance sounds, then it's going to be an amazing concert. Location-wise, it's near Broad Museum and Walt Disney Concert Hall. Getting to downtown Los Angeles wasn't too bad on a Friday afternoon, and we ended up doing valet parking at one of the hotels, so we were able to walk over. I think the only minus of the experience was that there weren't any signs at Zipper Concert Hall to denote that a Final Fantasy concert would be playing, or what the lines were for, or where to go. For example, we jumped into a line in front of Zipper Concert Hall thinking it was for check-in, but it was actually for merchandise. Once we got to the doors of the theater, it didn't seem like the ushers were actually checking tickets; they were trying to guide us on which door to go to take our seats. We had no issues finding our seats, and was able to sit down around 30 minutes prior to concert start. The concert itself was amazing, and, again, the acoustics were so good that it may be possible that there's no bad seat in that hall. Would totally love coming by again; great concert hall! read more

What a beautiful Theater - the stage and ceiling are definitely photo-worthy- it's very modern, but doesn't feel like a cold and sterile environment, like some modern places do. It's the perfect size stage to watch a show - every seat in the house is a great one. read more

I've performed at Zipper Hall as a Colburn Kids dancer and have rented out the entire facility for a private concert as well. It's an amazing performance hall with modern design, extraordinary acoustics, professional staff, and is adaptable to different kinds of performances. At 435 seats, it's a decently grand size without sacrificing intimacy, and there's balcony seating on both sides in addition to the main area. The view and sound are great regardless of where you sit. If you're thinking about renting the place, they provide usage of the green room, the ticket booth, their Steinway, a sound/stage technician, one usher employee, and also record the night's event onto a CD. A negative side to renting is that they don't allow food to be brought in for a reception, if you want to have one then you must purchase food through the Colburn School only. Needless to say, the facility itself is already very expensive and so the food expense isn't a very happy addition. But all in all, a beautifully constructed hall that's perfect for individual professional performers. read more

Often sang here when I was a member of the Colburn Choir now I come back for the Winter concerts. The instructors at Colburn are great and nothing really compares in terms of acoustics. Before a big show our instructor would have us sing interchangeably in the Lobby then in the Hall then back again to the Lobby... It was the only way he could really pinpoint where we had made small errors. The acoustics in the Hall were so superb that slight elevations in tone or pitch were sometimes hard to catch =) read more

A nicely set up concert hall, that feels a little bit like the little brother of the Disney Concert Hall... at least on the inside. Back when I was in middle school, this place was still under construction, but as a gift to the construction workers, they asked for a mini-concert amidst all the dirt and dust and grime. I must have been about 12 or 13 y.o., played a short Copland piano piece, then played a few movements of a Beethoven trio with my piano trio ("Ardore" we called ourselves, haha). Needless to say, I've performed there many times after that, in a completed hall that is vastly different from the construction ~10+ yrs ago. The acoustics are great, and the hall is small enough to be intimate, yet large enough to accommodate big-deal events (seats ~350). Great for recitals or chamber concerts. Awesome and friendly staff also. I've seen all kinds of performances here, and the acoustics make everything sound great. I've even watched them film Nicholas Cage in Adaptation here. All seats in the house are good, comfortable, easily accessible. Viewing monitors outside are convenient... ticket booth is nice... everything here is great. read more

I was here last night for a concert and really enjoyed it and I think the hall itself had almost everything to do with it. It was the perfect size, and from my balcony seats I was able to see everything! The orchestra that performed did an excellent job. I went to watch my nephews perform and was worried that I would get a bad seat since the seating was "first come, first serve" cattle calling. the zipper concert hall is located at the colburn school of music. it has a decent size capacity of at least 700 people from my ballpark estimate. i attended a performance by MESTO (multi ethnic star orchestra) last night that my friend anton e. performs cello for. i was delighted by the seats (well cushioned) and the spacing between seats and rows (i am a tall man). any place you sit has a good view and the hall has a smart lighting system that is sectioned allowing for lights to be on at the right place within the hall. there is even a monitor to view the performance from outside the hall should you need to but most importantly, the acoustics here are impeccable. no weird echoes or resonance. the hall is very clean as is the decor and design. modernne design mostly. definitely a good place to check out any type of musical performance. read more
