Ordered online at 9:55, estimated time to pick up was 10:13. Arrived a few minutes early, the screen says it's still in progress, cool I take a seat and wait. At 10:21 I get a text that they are behind and the order will be done at 10:23. Oh well it happens sometimes. 10:23 comes and goes, order still "in progress" on the screen, no new text updates. Keep watching the screen, still in progress. Finally at 9:45, over 30 minutes after my original time, I ask the employee behind the counter what's going on with the order? She takes my name looks around and hands me two bags of food that had just been sitting there for a while. Doesn't apologize for the oversight, just gives me a blank look. Go home and of course everything is cold, five minutes after I get home I get a text that my order is ready for pickup. The only positive was that the order was correct. Last time I came they were able to give me my barrel chili, zip meal add ons (mac salad & barrel rice) quick and easy this time. Luckily I didn't get any attitude from the employees and I didn't have to ask for missing items. Went straight to the counter and was greeted by a friendly employee. Update on other review: Still waiting on a response back from the mgr Chentel since the other mgr Ronald/Ronaldo said to wait for her call back. I've been trying to call/email her since we keep missing each other's timing but she the one insisting we "talk story". I give up. Dont bring a big group/family to this Zippy's ever. Kaneohe Zippy's was busy when we decided to dine there. There was actually a wait of about 30 minutes for a seated table. Out server was prompt. He was attentive and friendly. Zip Pac - 3.5/5 A staple when visiting Zippy's. You get a piece of golden fried chicken, a breaded white flaky hoki fish filet, a tender slice of teriyaki marinated beef, and Spam. All over a bed of rice. For some reason, the fried chicken that I've been receiving has been overcooked and dry, The piece of fried chicken in the Zip Pac was dry :-(. The fish, spam and Teri meat was good. Chili Dog Combo - 4/5 The chili has been the most consistent menu item that has remained very good throughout the Zippy's location. The hotdog combination with Zippy's chili is one of my favorite food items I order at Zippy's. Zip Mein - 3.5/5 For a quick small comfort Local food to get is the saimin at Zippy's. The broth is tasty and and the noodles are usually good. The condiments like Kamaboko (fish cake) is paper thin. Veggie portions are decent mst of the time. Fried Chicken - 3.5/5 As I wrote in the Zip Pac review, the fried chicken which used to be one if my favorites at Zippy's, was overcooked. The seasoned breading on the chicken thighs had a "hard crunch" sound, not the "crispy" crunch sound. I experienced this at the Kailua Zippy's too. 70% of the chicken met was dry. This might be acceptable for others, but for me, I prefer dark meat to be tender. This situation could have been only with the batch that I was served, so I will order again to be sure that this occurrence with the fired chicken is not consistent with Zippy's. Zippy's will always be a "go to" eatery for a lot of locals in Hawaii. Many will over look the negative evaluations that I have pointed out. If I wasn't a Yelp reviewer, I would probably be in their shoes too. That being said, as a Yelp reviewer, I need to write an honest review from my perspective. Zippy's is not a restaurant to avoid, but expectations should be tempered. Their bakery has many items that are delicious. Zippys is a bit of a hit or miss. I think the nostalgia of my childhood is the real reason I occasionally eat here. Also, I do enjoy the veggie chili cheese fries. I think the final straw is that they won't make a plain cheese omelette in the morning. Came here for a quick lunch before going to the sandbar after it was mentioned to us by our Uber driver. He said it's not something to rave about, just a regional chain, but we thought it sounded cool! We thought it was interesting that this spot had half of a quick dining area and a sit-down area. The cashiers were super duper friendly. Saimin - This was inexpensive and quite filling! It had a good amount of noodles and the piping hot broth came separately. The fish cake and char siu were tasty. Since it seemed little, I added a chicken katsu. The cashier said she made sure to put it separately so the chicks stayed crispy. Chicken katsu - My stand-alone katsu was around $5-6 but turning it into its own combo meal with rice and mac salad is the way to go. My friend got 3 pieces for $12. We expected a dense, greasy fried food but it was actually very light and thin! It was a lot better than I expected. Its accompanying sauce is more sour than other katsu places I've tried. We were dying for vegetables at this point so I ate all the cabbage underneath lol. Korean fried chicken - This was delicious! The boneless pieces don't come in medium-sized chunks. I liked their crunch. Loco moco - This was hot, flavorful, and honestly tasted better than some other places I've tried. The egg was fried perfectly. Corned beef hash was so-so and the bacon was TERRIBLE. Rubbery and cold. The kind waitress ordered me another order of bacon. AGAIN the 2nd time around it was rubbery although it was hot this time. I informed the waitress the cook did not know you cannot cook bacon on high and expect it to get crispy even though it's turned dark. Ugh. Also took FOREVER to get refills on my coffee. As we entered into Zippys, we stood to be seated. There was one male who was cleaning tables who saw us but felt he ignored us. He was to busy bussing tables. The other waitress saw us and said she would be right with us. By the time we both went to wash our hand one at a time. We were still waiting to be seated. The Kane made some sort of gesture waving his hand. Thinking, guessing we should seated ourselves? I went to the manager to complain. In the meantime there was a party of 4 after us. We sat ourselves. She said that they were going through a shift change and short of help. With that being said at least someone should have said, sorry we're in the middle of a shift change and we will be right with you. The manager did not want to hear our complaint and said because we sat ourselves to a table we would not be served but the others after us would. This manager said I think I don't want to serve you folks. We politely left. She needs to go back to management behavior and needs improvement on her management skills to improve the quality of service. I'm visiting from Las Vegas and we appreciate them more then here. I'm going to give Zippy's 4 stars because the food is consistent and local comfort food. You know exactly what you'll have before you get there. Zip min when hangry, small chili bowl with rice coming from the airport, jello cake with cup of coffee to meet somebody to talk story before or after dinner. They always have free parking-they always have pleasant help. Checking in people can be inefficient. I want to a short out to Aunty Sharon who server us breakfast today. They have covd rules and routine that as we watched auntie run around that made us question these new routines. We ordered pancakes, hash browns, eggs, toast and coffee. We got 1 cup each of syrup, ketchup, butter, and a bowl of creamers so it was 2 per person. Unfortunately we asked for 2nds on coffee and apparently we all eat alot of syrup because we had to ask 2x more. Each request made auntie run around through the maze of customers who also had requests. She had to carry out the plates. If you want a refill of beverage you get a new cup. The empties have to be removed, by you guessed it, auntie. We gave her a 25% tip for breakfast because we felt sorry for her and in appreciation for all the running around she did. I cannot believe this zippys even exists. The service was terrible, all 3 of the employees working the front today has zero sense of urgency, waited 45 mins for our order. Food was sitting on the counter and not one of them was reaching for it to start the process of sending it out. They just kept looking in the same bags over and over again as if the order was gonna magically change. Ridiculous how slow they were all moving and not one pleasant face or a simple acknowledgment that there were 4 of us waiting around for over 35 mins!!!! Much lower value vs to go from L and L or Rainbows. Prices are much higher, portions much smaller and food generally blah. Dining in, same small portions for overpriced menu. Only sizeable item is large wonton min, but noodles often pasted together with overcooked and falling apart wontons in lukewarm soup that tastes surprisingly like the S&S powdered soup base packet. Fried chicken is almost always very dark brown with overcooked crunchy MEAT on the edges. Half a hot dog? You gotta be kidding. I have to be honest here...to be nice would be telling lies. read more

I've been to Zippy's before but not at this location, we decided to eat in and had a wait line. Due to the pandemic, social distancing enforced, temp check, and hand sanitizer at the front door. We seated and informed to use a QR code scanner for the menu. It appeared on the phone and ordered from the menu . I ordered the chili loco moco, which was new for me, and my partner ordered Korean chicken plate. Both was delicious. Finish with grilled cornbread, with butter and jelly. Exactly the same as it's always been. Haven't eaten here in at least 7 years? Everything looks the same, inside and out. Service was quick to be seated. Super sweet waitress helped our table of 6. She was super attentive, friendly, helpful with options and recommendations. This is where you go for unhealthy hawaiian comfort food right and everything is the same as I always remember. We got mixture of cornbeef hash and eggs, musubis, omelets, zip pack, stew, noddles, soup and of course everybody got a side of Mac salad. I don't know how many times I need to comment about this location and how to improve the customer service experience. I ordered Napples with my order and when the guy brought my total order out to me, I asked if the Napples was inside the bag because it didn't look like they were. He replies , "Yeah, should be" and he leaves. I unpacked everything and there were NO Napples. I packed everything back up, got out of my car and walked back in. I approached the same guy, raised my bag and told him the Napples weren't inside. He looked at my receipt and asked how many I ordered. I told him two. He then doesn't say anything and goes behind the counter and bags up the two missing Napples. No apology was offered. Nothing else was said. Zippys.....if your runners are not packing the bags, then have them check each and every order as it comes to them and as they place it on the shelf awaiting the customer to arrive. If this is what is supposed to happen, then this guy failed and he deserved the stink-eye I gave him when I stormed back in. But if he wasn't trained, then shame on you for not doing better. Well, I can't review what I can't taste. We stopped by for lunch. It was very confusing ordering take out vs. dine in. Apparently once you choose take out, you cannot sit down to eat. It's like the 2 parts are separated. And I get it, we just didn't understand before ordering. However, after we got back to our hotel 30 minutes away, my ramen was missing. And I was starving, so I was very disappointed. I've always loved Zippy's. It's been an island favorite each time I visit. But I paid for something I simply didn't get. 2 Stars!
