After visiting the Byodo-In Temple on a showery day, it was around noon and were ready for lunch. Given that we were not familiar with food options in the area, one of us suggested Zippy's as there should be one close by. Checked Yelp and sure enough, there was a location 3 miles away in Kaneohe. It's located in the Windward Mall so parking was not an issue. This location has a sit down section with table service and counter service. So we decided to order at the counter and eat at the tables on the left side of the restaurant. After ordering, you monitor the board for your order number which will be In Progress and when your food is ready, your number will show as Ready for Pickup. After ordering, our orders were ready for pick-up in about 6 minutes. Our orders: Loco Moco - with two eggs over easy on top of hamburger patties and rice, brown gravy and mac salad. Not the best I've had, but the loco moco was very good and satisfied my hunger. Furikake Miso Salmon Katsu, which was a limited-time offer item. Two pieces of salmon with a miso glaze and furikake on top over a cabbage slaw, mac salad and rice. Friend who ordered this was happy for the meal. Father in law is visiting from the mainland. Has been coming to visit his daughter here for 20 years. He saw the Zippy's ad placement in the movie Wrecking Crew and then I showed him the Jason Mamoa clip at Zippy's with 2 British guys. Father in law said he has never been and wanted to try. We had the Chicken trio and he found all the chicken to be delicious and super crispy. The food was well seasoned, my fries were crispy and hit, and his 2 scoops of brown rice were both eaten. Only wish it came with a touch more corn. I have not been to this Zippy's in 4 years since the lady does not enjoy Zippy's. She did however say her order, hamburger steak with Mac salad was a safe option to eat again. Much higher praise than she gave her 3 previous visits over 20 years. Ambiance was typical Zippy's, tables maybe a little older than other locations, but the server was fantastic. He was a young kid that almost seemed scared, but he seemed eager to please and make us feel welcome and didn't want to disappoint us. We will be back but probably not soon. read more

If donuts from Long's bakery is prominent in Indianapolis, then Zippy's is a staple in Honolulu - all over Hawaii. Its a dine-in restaurant but it also has fast food to go options as well. The service was quick and it was interesting to see that they have an option of getting a smaller portion option of all entrees on the menu. I ordered the Korean Fried chicken, rice, and Mac salad, and it was so good. Reasonably priced options on the menu. Also the restaurant is like a retro diner style but it give family friendly vibes. Disappointed in the Hamburger Steak mini, only 1 patty which is delicious,1 scoop white rice & 1 scoop macaroni salad. Their competitors give you two patties! 1scoop rice &1 scoop mac salad. Update: If you're dining in, they got rid of the QR code, so you have to go to the zippys website and sign up on the waitlist. I know, I know, such a hassle. I always wonder what elderly do if they don't have smart phones. Mahalo to the aunty that saw me looking for the QR code sign and informed me of the change. Later that same customer helped me with the bathroom code since she saw me struggling with that as well. What an angel! It's "2025" for the women's. They're probably gonna change it since it's in this review. Lol. Also noticed not superly wheelchair friendly the most recent time I frequented this establishment. The family of a senior using a wheelchair had to move a standing sign in order to have enough space for her to exit the restaurant since they were short-staffed. Since the 1980's, Kaneohe Zippy's have been serving up classic dinner meals with local flair. I have spent many of late nights here growing up after clubbing in the early 80's. Haha, or after date night out with my girlfriend. The food has stayed pretty much consistent throughout the decades. Their fried chicken is still crispy and moist, the Zipmin and of course the Zippac are true local favorites. Although the quantity has been paired down due to the higher food prices these days it's still delicious. And of course you can't forget those Naples. Flaky beyond belief,coated with a sugar glaze and filled with apples,or coconut, or one of their newer flavors Ube. The chili with meat and beans on spaghetti came to the table piping hot and fresh! The spaghetti was perfectly cooked. What is so nice about this spaghetti is there was the best ratio between chili and spaghetti. I loved that I still had chili to eat with my last bite of spaghetti. I'm the type who asks for an extra helping of sauce when I order pasta dishes at other restaurants because I feel there is never enough sauce. Zippy's got the ratio right! I got to give it up to one of the longest running restaurants in Hawaii's history that if it's been running this long and survived covid, how can you give this less than five stars? The food okay? The food is okay. Nothing crazy but the consistency has always been the same. I mean, ever since the '80s it's always been what you would eat after a surf session or Beach session or if you just wanted something that would keep being consistently good. I always get the wonton min and they always bring the mustard on the side. To finish this off, I usually get a slice of chocolate dobosh or an apple napple either way, you can't go wrong here I would say this is the Chick-fil-A of Hawaiian food because the service is always great. I've never had a bad experience with the server here in over 30 years so that speaks mountains too. It's authenticity. The place is always clean. Bathrooms always clean. The eggs in my bento were overcooked and tasted like the cook didn't know what they were doing. The French toast was even worse--the egg coating was cooked on the outside, but underneath the bread was soggy and wet with uncooked egg. It was very gross and not appetizing at all. This was such a disappointing experience. I love chicken katsu and it's not bad at Zippy's, but this time was different. The mini chicken katsu that I ordered was indeed mini. The chicken pieces were so tiny and were dry. Compare it to the picture of my chicken katsu from last year, which was much bigger. Chicken Katsu: 0/5. I will not be getting this again anytime soon. Can go to other places and get chicken katsu for cheaper with a bigger portion. Side toss salad was good, which made me give 2/5 stars for this review. read more

I really enjoyed having lunch here! Zippy's is a Hawaiian change so we of course had to try it while in Honolulu. The menu features fried chicken, chili and a few other specialties. But those are what we got. Everything was really yummy and tasty. It came out very fast. The chicken was delicious and the chili was unique but also delicious! The prices were reasonable which is always an interest of mine. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. It's very much a diner vibe, so keep that in mind. Next stop. ZIPPYS! I used to be a fan of Zippy's, I think maybe some of us were/was back in the day, when the food was better, portions were bigger and prices were cheaper. Zippac costs almost 16.00. I noticed at this Kaneohe location, a lot of people order online and that's the way to go here because service is horrible. I guess like most anywhere, there is staff shortage, but what got me was this cashier named Julie who was so rude. Not a single smile and curt. Like she didn't enjoy her job or just having a bad day. Sheesh! I don't mind the soups, but the rotation in soups is very minimal, it's the same soup every few days. I love the spaghetti, I think that's my fave. Zippy's will always fulfill late night munchies. The restaurant side was closed so we decided to eat in on the fast food side. My go-to is the large saimin. I love that they put the soup on the side. We also ordered the mushroom burger, Garlic Miso Chicken, and side of chili fries. Surprisingly the fries were hot, like it was a new batch. And the saimin and burger hit the spot. Went to Kaneohe Zippy's for lunch parking excellent dining room excellent and clean bathroom clean. Seating bench broken but no big deal. The deal breaker for me was short staff took extra long to place my order then after the meal took a good 20 minutes to get my check through no fault of the staff just short hand. this was much to long. I'm sure the staff did the best they could just couldn't keep up with the customers until they get more staff I just don't think I will be looking forward to going back any time soon. read more

I get the hype! Hefty plate of Korean fried chicken with plenty of chicken and rice. The Korean sauce is pretty sweet, but that's to be expected. Mac salad is not the best. Overall though happy with how juicy the chicken was and the portion size. I also tried an apple napple but didn't think it was anything special. read more

When going on a trip and when returning home, this is our go to place. I recommend bringing food to the airport as the selections there are limited and expensive. Nothing beats a Zip pac to take to the airport or eat on the plane. My usual at home is the chili loco moco with beanless chili and onions. I love the eggs over easy. Stopped at the post office to mail a box out and thought it would be a travesty if I didn't pay a visit to Zippys at least once while I was on island. Walked on over and took a look at the pastry case. Even though it's not a favorite of mine there is nothing like a Long John from Hawaii. For some reason everywhere else the filling is different or the pastry is different or they're both different and nothing like the ones here, so I had to get one. I also grabbed a brownie with walnuts for the airplane since it would travel well. Took a bite of the Long John and dang, was it good! It was fresh and had a lot of filling. The brownie is less exciting as it reminds me of dark chocolate - a dense and not sweet sort of flavor - rather than milk chocolate; but then I'd rather have something less sweet than over sweet. It was definitely worth the stop in. Next time it will be a Zip Min for sure! read more

We like to think of this location as our second dining room...that's how much at home we feel here. Christmas morning, had a late breakfast with my firstborn. Came by for some dinner on a Friday night. For a party of 3 we sign up for the waitlist online since it was around dinner time and we wanted to make sure that the wait wasn't too long. Once we got there there's a small parking lot in the back. When we got inside there's the left for take out and right for dine in. We were first on the list and it said 10 min wait but ended up taking over 30/40 minutes to be seated. When we were seated though we ordered right away since we knew what we wanted. We got the Friday special which was the Korean pork special plate and a chili chicken plate. Both of which were super tasty and actually came out pretty quickly. We walked in and right back out. We drove here from Kapolei as we were going to Kailua Bay for the beach in the afternoon. We were super hungry and have been wanting to try Zippy's due to the local hype. We walked in and needed the restroom, and this place was super ran down on the inside and out, the bathrooms were disgusting, ultimately leading us to leave in disappointment before ordering. The pastry prices are ridiculously expensive since they now have a monopoly in Kaneohe for confectionery products (losing Kaneohe Bakery and Deluxe). Service is hit or miss. There's an older employee who looks and acts unhappy and unfriendly. read more

It took 30 minutes to get seated and another 30 minutes for that same waitress to take my order. Another 30 minutes to get my food. I asked the other lady for ketchup and she said ok and never came back with it. The waitress gave me my coffee and said she will come back with sugar and cream. She took 20 minutes and I had to ask for it. Finally food came and no one came back to refill anything. It was terrible. That waitress needed help.
