It's been a long time since I been to a Zippy's. I was excited for my kids to try this place as it brings back so much memories for me but the food is definitely not how I remembered. Cashier was really nice and inside is spacious and clean. We ordered the korean chicken plate, chicken katsu plate, spaghetti, cheeseburger, Portuguese bean soup and custard long john. Out of our big order the only thing we liked was the Portuguese bean soup and mac salad. The cheeseburger was so sad it came with only a dry patty and cheese, there was no lettuce, onions or tomatoes or mayo it was so bland and plain. The custard long john's looked better than it tasted, they were dry and stale. Was a big disappointment

Had a lot of people recommend zippy's. Nice parking lot. Plenty of parking. We waited about 6 mins to be seated. Our food came out pretty quickly after ordering. We got the Korean fried chicken and the Korean fried chicken w chili platter. I got mac salad on mine and my friend got corn on hers. Overall, this was so good and such a big portion. Had to take leftovers to go of course. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

We heard Zippy's was like a Hawaiian fast food joint, and we were indeed looking for some fast food at the time. We found parking easily and went inside to order. There was plenty of seating opened. We decided on some kids meals and the surf pac deluxe plate. Food came out fairly quickly. The kids loved the spaghetti and burger. The chicken and chili were our favorites from the plate. Hawaiian chili and rice is a must, you're missing out if you don't try it. And the fried chicken was really juicy. Service was pretty good. The restaurant itself was pretty clean. There was also a bakery section but we didn't get a chance to try things. The kids meal came with a token to use on their toy machine, which the kids loved.

Zippy's is Hawaii's version of fast-food, so we were curious and wanted to try! We ordered the deluxe plate and the mini deluxe plate. The fried chicken was a bit dry, but tasted yummy when you dip it in the gravy. My favorite was definitely the beef and mac salad! The service wasn't great, but we chalked it up to it being a fast-food joint. The restaurant was fairly clean and reminded me of an KFC stuck in 2013ish.

My first fast food experience in Hawaii is here at Zippy's! They have everything you would crave for in comfort Hawaiian food, as well as sweets and desserts like cake, pastries, and malasadas. Although I didn't try the sweets, they looked promising and fresh. What my group ordered was their Chicken Katsu Plate, Loco Moco, and Korean Fried Chicken Plate. Each plate came with a scoop of white rice and Mac salad. The food order took time but we had a huge group order and we were told beforehand each loco moco plate would take around 8-10 minutes. To drink, their Lilikoi Drink is amazing and perfectly sweet to counter the heavy foods we were already eating. It was a delicious meal and I liked the Korean Fried Chicken plate the most as it was the most flavorful and went well with rice. So glad to have tried Zippy's in Kapahulu and try out their popular plates. They are an easy choice when it comes to finding a location that serves most of your favorite Hawaiian comfort foods. They also serve breakfast for dinner so an all day breakfast is another bonus for me!

We ordered the chicken trio meal that came with chicken katsu, Korean fried chicken, and Zippy's famous fried chicken with a side of mac salad and rice. This meal was definitely affordable and worth it since the portion was huge! Our favorites was the Korean fried chicken and original fried chicken. The Korean fried chicken had a lot of flavor, not too sweet or salty. The original fried chicken was very juicy and crunchy - maybe an in between of Jollibee and Popeyes. Overall both were really great. The chicken katsu was a little dry. Also can't go wrong with the mac salad. The staff here are really friendly as well. Nice diner style spot to stop by!

Visiting from LA. the food portion is good, an older lady at the counter was nice, clean inside and out. Nothing to complain about. I will be back.

I love that there are mini versions of the entrees! Service is super quick and my food came out fast. I might call Zippy's the Applebees of Hawaii but honestly, it's way better. The food options are a delight. I got the mini loco moco and I devoured it in seconds. It came with a delicious mac salad. I also got the ube chiffon cake, where there was a strand of hair in it hence why a star was deducted. The empath in me did not want to bother the kind workers for a new slice. The cake was fluffy and flavorful.

My mom's friend told us about this spot and raved about the chicken! We came for a late dinner. There's a small parking lot outside and plenty of seating inside. Chicken trio: 3/5, the Korean chicken was our favorite because of the sauce. The chicken katsu was okay but a little dry. The fried chicken was good but it didn't stand out. Wun tun min: 2.5, the noodles were a little tough. I like chewy but these were too chewy in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of the flavors of the won tons. It was bland I. My opinion Loco moco 3.5/5, probably our favorite dish. The gravy was super flavor and it was a huge portion. I would come back again but I would try other dishes.

Old school... Can't believe that I haven't reviewed this location especially it was the place that dad frequent just about every single day back in the day when we get newspaper delivered to our home which he enjoyed with his coffee and pastries here at Zippy's. Nothing really had much changed here and it brings so much nostalgia though on this night they did seem quite short handed and picking up on the struggle I felt awful but the staff regardless was very polite and friendly. Always nice to have their fundraiser coupons it's like a pantry where you can get something to eat on the fly as I redeemed my coupon for a hot chili along with a fried chicken plate so that I' can share a scoop rice each with a piece of fried chicken. This location is a bit smaller than some other though do make it work perfectly with lots of free parking and seatings as well and just love coming back here sometimes as it holds fond memories created though the years and nice to see that the vibe still continues for locals and visitors as it's the closets location from Waikiki. Thank you!

    The staple

Zippy's - 2 stars I'll admit--I was being generous with this rating because I knew going in that my palate might not be quite ready for some of Hawaii's local staples. Spam just isn't something I've had much of or really craved! Walking in, the vibe felt nostalgic--like a classic neighborhood dine-in spot. I ended up chatting with a fellow visitor from the mainland, and he swore by the spaghetti (which almost tempted me!). But I stuck with the TikTok favorite: the Zip Pac. It's a loaded combo of Hawaiian staples--fried Spam, fish, teriyaki beef, and a piece of fried chicken, all served over white rice. Visually, the plate was packed and definitely filling. But for me, it was a texture and taste thing--it just didn't hit. I couldn't finish it, but I'm still glad I gave it a try. Service was pleasant, the space was decently clean, and there was plenty of parking. I saw a lot of locals enjoying themselves, which made it clear this is a go-to comfort spot for many. Someone told me Zippy's is like Hawaii's Chick-fil-A, and I can respect that. It just wasn't my flavor lane. If you're visiting the island, I'd still say give it a try for the cultural experience. But for me, it was a one-and-done.

Busy night at Zippy's but we got what we wanted. A Zip-Pac deluxe, an order of chili spaghetti, and a Vegas pac. All were good. I have not had the chili in a while and forgot how good it was. Fried chicken was really juicy!

They were all taken by what looks like an after party crowd. Maybe they just came from dancing or just drinking in a bar. They were loud and a bit intoxicated. Ok back to what you're really here for. The food. I ordered the furikake ahi. It comes with mixed greens and asparagus. There also is some "bomb sauce". It's nice and creamy with a slight hint of heat. The furikake ahi was nicely prepared. It wasn't overcooked. It was done almost perfect. I like to see some rawness in the middle but it was close. It was really good and I was quite surprised. The asparagus too was really good. It wasn't overcooked where it's mushy or undercooked where it's hard. Prepared perfectly. I'm not a veggie person but the dressing was really good. Not exactly sure what type of dressing it was but it came with it. So no Thousand Island, Ranch, French, Italian or your Oil and Vinegar. It was really good. I just wish they gave a little more. Overall it was a really good and satisfying meal. It compares well with a restaurant like Nicos. Just not the same atmosphere and you're probably going to wanna take it home to eat. Lots of parking in the very early morning as every place else is closed. They are open 24 hours. A rarity after covid came and went. So if you're looking for someplace open late night or early morning serving a good furikake ahi this is your place. Give them a try. It's worth the price at under $20. There are many other offerings to choose from and will probably try something else from here. They also do offer a mixed plate where you can have two choices off their regular menu board. Sorry I didn't take pictures of the menu. Maybe next time I'm here. The person that took my order was really nice. She was an elderly Filipina. She was very nice and pleasant especially at working this very early morning. I think her name was ate Letti or maybe auntie Letti. Very good service.

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.
