The best I've EVER had! Cooked in beef tallow and so so so good!!!! Oh and the lemonade is homemade too! Not just homemade but made with love! We had such a nice chat with Quinton! What a nice young man who has so much pride in what he's doing & representing! It was a breath of fresh air finding someone so young and so dedicated and excited to serve clean healthy food! Drawn in by the local ingredients and grass fed beef. We went with a double and some fries and shared it to make it more cost effective because the price tags are pretty high here. No restrooms inside, gotta use a code and go to the second floor of the neighboring food hall. We were quickly greeted as we entered the establishment. The lady at the counter also advised us that they cook the burgers to medium rare. The burger was delicious. Nice and juicy and flavorful. The fries were good as well, but definitely need to double the portion for the price. While we do appreciate the quality of food, this would be a place that would we would come as a special treat. Big Island Burger delivered one of the best burgers I've had in a while. It was easily my favorite meal on my Hawaiian vacation. All of the ingredients are locally sourced, and it shows. The burger patties were thick and juicy, smothered in your choice of cheese. I had the double with Tillamook cheddar and pepperjack, their creamy aioli, and pickled jalepenos. Yes the burgers are expensive, it Hawaii and they are worth it. I don't remember when I've had a burger this good, well seasoned, the buns are great juicy burger cooked just right. We are a huge fans of supporting local business and this place also supports local farmers and ranchers. The service was good. The place was clean and the food was delicious. My favorite might have been the lemonade which was exceptional. For those who do not like a messy burger, we'd recommend ordering just the bun and the patty and adding whatever toppings you like on your own I ordered just avocado and the combination was perfect. You'll see in the photos some of the burgers with the toppings as they come and get very wet and messy but definitely delicious. I really, really wanted to like my food but something was off. I found myself chewing a lot more than normal. At first I thought it was the fries. But then I ate the burger by itself and it seemed to have bits of meat I couldn't chew. I don't know what you call it. I got the smashed burger so maybe that was the issue. The fries were a mixture of crunchy and too chewy. I'm not sure what happened. I sure hope it was just an off moment for them because I love that they support local farmers. I think Big Island Burger became my recent favorite burger place on Oahu. It located in the heart of Waikiki across Ross. They provide one hour validation at the parking Waikiki Shopping Plaza. Restaurant is clean and stylish. I love the Hawaiian style burger painting on the wall. Staffs are very friendly and efficient. I ordered one hamburger with fries and house-made lemonade. Lemonade (9/10) - have a balance of sweet and sour flavors. It helps digestion. Lol Hamburger (10/10) - the BEST burger! They used all the local ingredients from Hawaii. Very juicy and tender. Fresh made when you ordered. Fries (9/10) - Crunchy and fresh. The sauce is the bomb. Overall everything is perfect. They offer 15% for Kamaaina. I would have liked it if the burger itself had more sauce, as without it it was a little on the blander side. It was cooked well done like I asked for, the jalapeños were spicy and crunchy. The sauce was really tasty. The bun was nice and made it so the burger held together well while I was eating. When visiting a burger restaurant, I look for 2 things: good hamburger options (beef), and a good non-hamburger option (fish, chicken, deli sand, etc.). Here, they had both so they met the initial criteria for awesomeness! For my minced cattle entree, I selected the double. They offer patty options from single up to a quad behemoth. I approve of the options, but usually avoid burgers with too much height for a single big bite when held with one hand. Don't get me wrong, I'm an expert at smooshing a vertically gifted burger to the height of a pancake, but I usually save that party trick for a formal occasions. For my non-beef selection, I chose the catch of the day. Since I was ordering online, I did not know what fish was the day's catch, but it turned out to be ahi. I ordered my burger patties cooked medium-well as I usually do with ground beef and the patties were nicely cooked and still very tender and moist. The burger to bread ratio was great and the toppings (lettuce, tomato, and onions) were fresh and also perfectly proportioned. The fish was also perfectly prepared maintaining its moistness. One criticism on the catch of the day is that it's not very generous on the fish. A little larger portion of the aquatic meat would have gone a long way. I also got fries with my order, which were pretty good, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out if they were sweet potato or regular rustic spuds. I was excited to find out that this location is part of an expansion from a local burger restaurant from Big Island, called "Ultimate Burgers". I originally ate several times at the location in Kona and was impressed by the flavor, portion size and number of toppings available. When I found out they opened in Waikiki, I knew I had to try it. The burgers are fresh and never frozen and are from Big Island. The meat had very good flavor and I could taste the difference compared to grass fed meat from the mainland or other places around the world. The interior is well lit, with trendy furniture to dine on. There is a variety of low top, booth, high top and patio seating. They have invested a good amount to make the ambiance inviting and pleasant. There is easy view to the kitchen to see your food being prepared which is a nice touch. Good A/C and sound system. I appreciated that they list on the wall all of the local farms that they source their ingredients from. Located on the exterior of the Styx Asia building, down a side street it is relatively easy to find. The outside seating area on Seaside Avenue was empty. The interior was bright (next to the windows), clean, and modern. Located on the ground level of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza, the white and blue balloon arch made the entrance easy to spot. I ordered a Cheeseburger with Tillamook Cheddar Cheese. I used a plastic knife to cut the Burger in half to show the interior... i didn't see any cheese nor taste any. I went to the counter and showed the two females. They apologized, told me to throw it away, and said I'd get a corrected Burger. Well, I didn't want to waste food, especially since the patty was juicy and tender with a smokey flavor. I enjoyed the fresh veggies: lettuce, tomato, and onion, which were included with a Thousand Island-ish dressing. It was messy, but yummy. The buns were soft, but I tossed most of them so I could eat the second Burger... LOL! Thanks for an interesting experience! I appreciated the wet wipes, utensils, and napkins very much!
