So I'd be cautious hiring someone if you're possibly not even going to get a licensed plumber in another situation (thought even apprentices had to be with a licensed plumber). They're playing the "cherry picking game" where you feel like you have to get your $99 back... and if it's not a "big job" like new construction or a big bathroom remodel - they don't really want this little stuff. I paid it. Hindsight being 20/20, I've now learned that most local plumbers charge less than $200 for. I know that it's on me, the consumer, to do that comparison, but way to take advantage of someone in a tough spot. The only reason they are getting 2-stars is because there was a separate issue they helped with. To be clear, the separate issue was not the cause of the outrageously high price of clearing the clog. The separate issue seemed to be more technical and was only in the $400 range. The techs were nice and professional. I don't recommend Mr Rooter if you're looking for something affordable and don't want to be taken advantage of.

Our 70 year old sewer line was blocked ( holiday weekend!) Our first attempt at repair was with another not-to-be-named "emergency rooter" company. The water suddenly stopped running in my house - well, not exactly, it would run for a few seconds and then stop. I asked my neighbors and their water was all running fine. Portland Water Bureau said it wasn't their problem. So I called Sutherland Plumbing randomly, and we did some trouble shooting over the phone. It looked like it may be a VERY expensive issue in the pipe between the house and the street. Ti Sutherland found a time to come by, since this was kind of an emergency since we couldn't shower, and he found the problem in just a couple of minutes. Turned out it was only the HOT water that was being stopped, and it was a janky flood prevention device that had been installed with the water heater. The batteries died and it shut off the flow. Replaced the batteries, and boom! We're all fixed. Ti actually got a big kick out of the whole process. Solving problems is his bag. Highly recommend.
