"Please continue to hold. Your call is very important to us." How can that be true after 30 minutes on hold and still waiting? Also, the reason I'm calling is because my sister said that someone from Packrat called her to tell her that her in-state move (from Los Angeles area to the SF Bay area) would be $8,500. The person I spoke with a few days assured me that the price would be $2100 - 2400. The driver who dropped off the box was the first who gave my sister the huge estimate for moving ($8,100 in that case), which a driver is not supposed to do. Now, I have to wonder who is "Mack" who called her to tell her of the $8,500 charge for moving. The only emails received were the ones that had very low rates -- for drop-off, pick-up, etc. But, there were no quotes on transportation except for the "local" move. The price for the long-distance move (which we're unsure if it will happen) is, I see, based on the cost of diesel fuel, which can vary a lot. Still on hold. Supposedly I can leave my phone number and "an agent will call you back without losing your place in the queue." I don't even know if they have kept track of what order the calls come in. Perhaps they have prioritized the "new business" call over the "already booked" orders. [sigh] 37 minutes on hold, even though they say, they will "answer your call as soon as possible." How fast is "possible"? When you have too-few workers, "possible" could be a looooong time. Or, "possible" could be accomplished more quickly with enough workers. Are they saying that they will hire more workers if someone is on hold for "too long"? Doubtful. 41 minutes on hold. Terrible customer service! The storage unit was delivered on time, by a very nice driver. So far, so good. I pack the unit and I am ready for it to be taken to storage. I call Pack Rat I get put on hold for over an hour. They give a message that says to leave your number and they will call you back when your name comes up in the que. I wait serval hours no call. I call back same thing. Call again sane thing. I have gone 3 days with no call back. They have also charge more than they said the service would cost. I had my belonging in storage with PackRat for 6 months as I moved. I paid at the end of July for the next entire month even though I was having my belonging delivered on 8/1/21. They never even showed up!!! LOL- Pack Rat made sure that didn't happen. It took from July 31 till August 20th to get my container delivered and picked up- DUE TO PACKRAT and their lack of correct scheduling! 4 different times they didn't even show up and gave me the run around for 3 weeks- I had to sit on the phone and call for 3 wey got it- which was suppose to be free of charge! eeks till they came and got their empty container with constant rescheduling. THEY THEN CHARGED ME FOR ALL OF AUGUST! Then I was charged $153 AFTER they finally got it! They were literally the worst business I've ever dealt with in my life. They have your belongings so you they are so incredibly rude knowing they can just take advantage of people during a pandemic. Horrendous! Getting your business is easy - they pick up that phone quickly. Delivery of my container was pretty easy too (some minor annoying details like them telling me it might need to go in the street or block my neighbors driveway. What? It didn't need to do either of those things.) But pickup was an unacceptable mess! I was moving from CA to MA. Had my pickup day confirmed. Container was packed and ready to go. By 5pm I still hadn't received a call that the driver was coming. I called PackRat and after a long (long) hold wait I was told that my pickup had been skipped and they didn't know why (other than "sometimes that happens.") and they couldn't get in touch with the dispatch service to find out why. Also, it's Saturday evening so no one will be picking my container up that day or the next. With "manager's approval" they can do a special "rush" pickup for Tuesday instead. Am I living in reality? I'm getting on a plane and moving across the country on Monday. Other people are moving into this house! I can't have all my possessions in the world sitting in the new owner's driveway! All PackRat can say is that I'll have to explain to the new owners is that my giant shipping container will be there unexpectedly. Insane. They gave me no discount for their screw-up. No explanation as to why it happened. Wouldn't even let me speak to someone other than the customer service rep. I strongly, STRONGLY urge anyone to steer clear from this company! Do not use this service! I'm moving from the East Coast, and I used their expedited service to guarantee a delivery date for my container. On the day of the delivery, they told me they don't know where my container is, and it hasn't arrived at the facility yet. The customer service is non-existent, and when you call, you basically had to wait sometimes for hours to hear back. I'm extremely frustrated as I have a very tight moving time frame and will not be present for delivery if there's any delay. I should have stayed with U-pack. DON'T USE PACKRAT FOR LONG DISTANCE MOVES! We're in the middle of our cross country move CA to NC now (my wife and 3 kids) after selling our house and 1800 Pack Rat has been so incompetent that I stopped even trying to speak with them and have been corresponding directly with the 3rd party moving company they subcontracted me out to, Old Dominion - who has been great. Where to even start. My initial call to Pack Rat was ok. I had a guy who mumbled a bit and was hard to understand but I had a pretty low quote. Then when I called back to book, I had a nice guy who was well spoken and everything ran smoothly. Well things started going south as soon as the trailer arrived. You see, for long distance moves cross country, they don't use the cool PackRat storage bins you see in all the shiny pictures, they contract you out to a bigger moving company with trailers. In my case, I was contracted with Old Dominion who is a reputable moving company. They showed up on time on a Tuesday, the day before we were to begin packing and the driver was very nice but guess what, no moving blankets were provided EVEN THOUGH on the phone I was promised 12 moving blankets would be included and on the 1 800 Pack Rat website when you click on "long distance moves" it says clearly, we include 12 moving blankets (I've attached a screen shot to their pictures). When I called to inquire, I was told for trailer moves that no blankets would be provided and they wouldn't be able to get any over to me even though they were promised. However, they did say that they'd be reviewing all my phone calls with 1800 Pack Rat to see if it was ever mentioned that blankets wouldn't be provided and if it wasn't, they could start the process for a reimbursement if I wanted to rent some blankets from UHaul. Seriously, reviewing multiple 30 minute long phone calls to decipher if I should be reimbursed for moving blankets?I call back to check on the status at the end of that day and was told we should know the results soon. I was told in the interim, to go ahead and rent blankets from Uhaul because either way, they wouldn't be providing any. Total charge from Uhaul to rent 18 blankets? $15. All this recorded phone conversation review interrogation for $15 worth of moving blankets. So then the next day on Wednesday, I pack the truck with a local company who was great to help load everything up and we used the $15 worth of moving blankets I was told to rent from Uhaul. It's now Thursday morning and I've scheduled a time from the beginning of booking for a pickup of Thursday AM because I start driving my car from CA to NC Friday at dawn. Noon rolls around and I've been waiting around and no one has shown up. I figure maybe they're just stuck in traffic or are really late. I finish other little things around the house and now it's 4pm and still no one has shown up. So, I start trying to call 1800 Pack Rat. For whatever reason the calls are on hold for a long time with music playing. My first call gets dropped after being on hold for a while. Finally someone answers and I tell her my issue. It's now 4:45pm. She clearly doesn't seem interested in helping and sounds like she could care less. So then she says, let me see what's going on here and asks me to hold. She puts the phone down without putting me on hold and I hear typing going on for about 10 minutes. It's 4:55pm. Then, click. She hangs up the phone on me. I think, surely she'll call back as she has my number and I've told her this is urgent as I'm leaving the next morning and must be present to sign off for the truck. I wait a few minutes and no call back. Then I try calling back and it's 4:59 according to my phone and sure enough, the line now says "we're sorry, you've reached us after business hours". You've got to be kidding me. She has hung up on me because it was almost closing time. I start to panic as this truck has to be picked up. I start tearing through the paperwork that Old Dominion gave me when they dropped off the truck and finally, on the last page of like 5 pages, towards the bottom of the page in tiny font is the phone number of my local branch. I call them up frantically and they're extremely nice. He tells me that the driver was 10 minutes away from my address that morning and called to confirm I was home. Guess what, the primary phone 1800 Pack Rat has provided is THEIR number and they don't answer the phone when the driver calls so they had to cancel the pickup. Thank god Old Dominion was able to send out a truck to pick up my trailer that night at 10pm, whew. Today I was contacted by Old Dominion locally here in NC to inform me that my trailer had arrived and to give them a call a day before I need it delivered but otherwise it'd be there waiting for me. I still have yet to hear back from 1800 Pack Rat about the results of their investigation into my phone calls to see if they needed to cover the $15 worth of blankets they suggest I rent. We recently moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles, the opposite direction of a move we made just a couple years ago. The last time, we used PODS, which was a perfect experience. However, this round, we knew there were more pod moving companies, so we researched all their pricing and found that Pack Rat was a bit more reasonable. We hoped that the lower price wouldn't mean worse service. So we took a gamble...and it paid off! From start to finish, the process with Pack Rat was wonderful. The national sales reps was very helpful but not pushy, and they were very communicative. And the team in Huntington Beach was also very nice to work with. The delivery process was seamless, and so far in our unpacking process, we haven't found a single broken item! The only hitch is that they really require a good amount of space to be able to drop off and pick up, so just make sure you leave several feet in front of the space where you actually need it! I'm surprised by the negative reviews. I called a few companies to see if they could deliver a unit the next day. These folks were able to get one out to me the next day. They quoted me an afternoon appt since their morning drop offs were booked. I told the scheduler that I wanted it first thing. He said he would put it in his notes. The next morning, I get a call from the driver at 7a and he said he was able to drop it off by 8. Worked out fantastic. Driver was super friendly and he was able to get the unit where I needed it without any problems. I'm using it for storage and not for moving so maybe that's where everyone had problems with this company. Hoping it will be uneventful when they come pick the unit up in a few months. read more

Because we were looking to save money on our move from Southern CA to Oregon, my partner and I researched the options for moving pods/containers. We received quotes from 3 different companies, and 1-800-PACK-RAT offered the best rate. They were even able to provide a container on short notice and offer flexibility with dates. Everyone we spoke with was incredibly friendly and helpful, and we received email confirmations at every point in the process. The drivers at both ends were great, and we especially loved Clarence who delivered our container in Portland. We live on a narrow street, and he took extra care to avoid our tree, which was greatly appreciated! Definitely recommend this company to anyone considering a long distance move. After moving across the country and having a container in storage at this facility I tried calling for a week, every day, multiple times, and leaving messages and they literally never responded. Amazingly my container was outside and accessible when I needed it but even on the day there was only one driver around about to leave who was willing to stop and help find it. Same story, called to order 2 16ft containers for a move from SoCal to Ohio, they answer with a great attitude and take your order, so far so good. Delivery day of container one arrives, the 3 guys i hired to load my stuff and myself are here waiting and no container, I get a call saying sorry the only fork lift in the shipping yard has flat tires and i wont get my container today which was a Friday, "sorry we'll get it there on Monday." I beg to get it the next day as i'm moving and cant wait til monday. Ok we'll get it there tomorrow since your only 2 miles from the yard. 1 forklift? really? I look up reviews and find all the horror stories, so i call my sales person to cancel, I get transferred to the Loyalty dept. and the Bach piano sonata starts, 30 mins go by with no answer "please leave your number and we'll get right back to you." I leave a voicemail stating i want to cancel and never get called back. I call customer service # the next day and get the same, "sorry we'll transfer you to loyalty purgatory." I leave another message after 30 mins on hold and still no call back. I call my original sales guy and he stresses that he is sorry and this never happens let me transfer you. Once again no answer and i leave a message. I just checked my account after a week and it says cancelled. Not once did anyone call me back, no email nothing stating my booking was cancelled. Oh how I wish I had read the Yelp review before I called these guys! This is, by far, one of the worst experiences I've had. Do NOT use this service. They have left the container at an address I no longer live at and the owner is now charging me for storing the container in his driveway! Zippi Container calls me to confirm pickup (after I've confirmed no less than three times by phone and email I want it picked up and then doesn't pick it up. The call went to spam because I didn't sign up with Zippi anything! Its been weeks and no pickup. Customer service is terrible and they refuse to deliver to their own facility. They want to deliver to Van Nuys, but the address I want the container moved to is in Orange County. So I ask to deliver to Garden Grove and they only deliver to the Orange County address which is 30 minutes farther than their facility! WTF?! The address is an apartment and won't accept the container so I want to pick up from their facility. Is that not more logical than storing in a facility hours away?!! These people don't understand simple logistics and I'm stuck because I can't move the container myself. To add to all this, I've already paid hundreds of dollars *before* delivery is completed. They have my money and will not complete the service offering I paid for. I'm looking at legal action at this point. Dont ever use this service! This is the worst pod company I have ever called and used. They have a lot of nerve calling someone a liar. I know what I heard and they say I didn't hear that or I got it confused with other companies. I stated I didn't and they still kept saying that I did. Then they have the nerve to argue the point with me. So if you are looking to move and need a pod please pay the extra money and get a better company. That's what I will be doing. Undisclosed fees charged! When I began the process, john was VERY helpful and went above and beyond to help me book and schedule my container. Robert, the man who dropped off my container was awesome!! The problem occured when I booked my container to my new location. I spoke to 2 different reps and both said I would only be charged a certain amount. TWO people told me the same exact amount. I didn't think anything of it. When I received my final invoice I was charged an extra $50!! Didn't make sense, I called and dealt with Alana, the most unhelpful, unprofessional "supervisor" who would not allow me to speak to her manager. She refused to comprehend that I was given ONE price by two of her co-workers! She said she was the supervisor and would not allow me to speak to a manager and would not refund the extra UNDISCLOSED charge. I know it's not a large amount but it's the principle of it. You would think they would have the skill to put together a website to give us the ability to request what we need when we need a container. Through an email maybe. I tried another website and they gave me quotes, but the containers were to small. Horrible service. It started off great. Until they picked up my pod. They now are holding my stuff ransom. Several billing issues and they will have my pod for well over a week for transport. So I called up 1-800-PACK-RAT and went with them out of many options because they had the best price (though not by much). I got an estimated quote for a long-distance move and signed the contract. When the pod was in transit suddenly I received a charge that was 18% more expensive than the price I was given over the phone (the sales rep assured me there were no hidden fees when I asked specifically earlier I kid you not). Hidden in the final contract (not the initial quotes) was a clause that stated the price was an "estimate" and the final charge could change if the price of gas ended up being more than what they budgeted for. They "estimated" diesel costing 40% cheaper per gallon than it does today even though they damn well knew diesel didn't cost that much and it hasn't for years! They do this so they can manipulate their quotes to grab business and then NAIL people later for a higher price when they have all of your belongings in their clutches and they have all the leverage. TOTALLY DESPICABLE! Their customer rep supervisors know what is going on and when I talked to them they did not give a %#$^ I was suddenly in trouble because my budget became out of whack. Then they tried to charge me for same day delivery that I had never requested in the first place! When I questioned them about why they charged 49.99 to deliver a full container and 79.99 to pick up an empty container, the reply I got was " because that's the way we do it". Really??? We recently moved out of state and used Zippy Shell. It was an absolute nightmare. They weren't much cheaper than PODS, but I guess you still pay for what you get. The employees and management do not take responsibility for their actions and they honestly could care less. We were told our pod would be to our house at 9:30 am and had all of our movers ready to go. They didn't show up until 4ish, so my husband had to move the entire house with one friend. They told me an employee isn't allowed to advise the time they are coming. Well they did and completely messed up our move. I left messages before our move and to this day never have gotten a return call or email. When our items arrived they were covered in dust. We had to not only unpack but clean everything. They do not cover the cage. Some of our items are now stained. I could go on forever, but I would warn not to use Zippy Shell or sister company, Pack Rat. Do Not Use 800-PACK-RAT. I regret using them so much. I was making a long distance move and needed storage for 6 months. Also, I wanted to save myself the trouble of u-hauling a long trip. So I thought using pods would be a good idea. WRONG. I packed everything perfectly into two pods. Called them to come pick it up. They say it's too heavy. I just have regular stuff in there. I don't have heavy wood furniture. How can I be overweight??? If my stuff is overweight, then anybody that uses them will be overweight. How can it be over 6000 pounds. No way. The driver said I could take it to a independent weigh station to weight it. How am I suppose to do that. Who am I suppose to hire to do this. Plus, I have to be out of my place in two days. My options were to get an extra pod and storage for 6 months through them or take some stuff out of both pods, and have them pick it up the next day. I had no time, like most people in this situation. But, I refused to let them make more money off me. I took some stuff out and rented storage myself. Ended having to get a small u-haul to make the trip. If I knew this from the beginning. I would just have public storage all of it and moved it all at once with a big u-haul. Yes, I move it into storage and then out of storage, but it would have costed less and less trouble. Total nightmare. Do not use them. Big mistake. read more

We used Pods in 2009 & had a terrific experience on a long distance move. in 2010, we decided to give packrat a try since they had better availability at the time. Terrible experience. Fast forward to 2014. After reading rave reviews about packrat, we decided to try them out again due to availabilty & price over PODs. How I regret this decision. This experience has been another nightmare. Quotes do no match charges. Missed delivery & pick up dates. Over scheduling, canceling last minute. No phone calls from them confirming anything. You don't even get a final bill/statement explaining charges. You have to call into billing, then hope they send it to you. Getting a return call back is next to impossible. Seriously, save yourself the headache & pay the little extra for PODs. Night & day difference. I will say the drivers are extremely professional, careful, communicative & accommodating. We actually ended up scheduling the pickup & delivery of our 2nd container directly with the warehouse. The warehouse even scheduled an exact time for pick up & delivery. The customer service center could not do this & gave us far out dates with 12 hr waiting windows. Still trying to get a final statement as we still incur monthly charges for storage that we never utilized. Our move was in November 2014. Who knows how long it will take them to refund us & to have them stop directly charging our credit card. read more

Worst moving experience I've ever had. If you actually want a container delivered when a company says they are going to deliver it, then look elsewhere. I reserved a container for a long distance move. I called the day prior to confirm and was told everything was in order and that I would get a call 30-60 minutes prior to drop-off. At 4:30pm on the day of the scheduled delivery, I called because I hadn't been contacted yet. I was told that I was still on the schedule and that they had until 10pm to drop-off. They never arrived. I called the next morning, and they couldn't tell me why the container hadn't been delivered. I already had people scheduled to help load the container... I had to cancel that and incur a fee. They said that the container would be delivered on that day, and that I would get a call 30-60 minutes prior to drop-off. After I complained, they said they would lower the price by $100 and see what they could do about making the drop-off a priority. I then thought "how can I trust these people with all my personal belongings when they can't deliver an empty container, and no one seems to know what is going on?" So, I cancelled the order and hired movers. It will be more expensive, but I'll get my things in my new home right away. And, hopefully, it will be a better experience. read more

We have too much stuff! We recommend PackRat to anyone moving or storing their stuff. We used PackRat's recommendation to hire helpers to load our stuff. It was like a puzzle but they did it and after stuffing 2 PackRat containers we stored our containers at our final destination for two months. All pickup and delivery drivers were outstanding and scheduling and follow-up from the headquarters and the local warehouse was professional and courteous. Our stuff arrived safely and nothing was broken or damaged. We highly recommend PackRat to anyone that needs to move their stuff.
