I was visiting family this past Sunday and they decided they wanted Chinese takeout. I told my dad he should look on Yelp since the restaurant they usually frequent is closed on Sundays. We ordered 5 eggrolls, a large Orange chicken, a large Shrimp fried rice and a small Chicken Egg Foo Young. I went to pick up the order 15 mins later and it was only 26 bucks. The eggrolls were a little on the dry side but as my Dad noted, they were a good compliment to the food overall. The Orange chicken had good flavor and it was a HUGE portion. The Egg Foo Young is not really my thing, but I tried it anyway and it was ok. My Dad said it was the first time that he'd had Egg Foo Young in which he could actually taste the egg. The Shrimp fried rice was good. I though the rice was well cooked and had good flavor. My dad is a teacher so he tends to grade everything. I asked him how he liked the food and he gave it an "A-/B+" He said he thought is was missing something and that he likes to have fried chicken with his Chinese food....I reminded him most Chinese restaurants serve fried chicken. Yum! They're a very busy place - so many calls for orders and people waiting in line. They seem to be mainly takeouts but there are few tables for you to sit and eat. The ladies who took our order was very nice and friendly. We ordered a chicken corn soup, potstickers, egg and shrimp cantonese style, and combo fried rice. The chicken corn soup was AMAZING! Potstickers are very good, too! They took awhile but it was tasty. The shrimp and egg was okay and fried rice was good. No complaints..and we got 2 free egg rolls with our order because we spent over a specific amount! They're in this small shopping mall plaza between 7-Eleven and a nail salon.. Nothing special about this place. I've ordered takeout twice and haven't been impressed either time. Very much like a fast food greasy spoon joint. We've ordered chicken and broccoli, veggie dishes, general tsao's chicken, egg rolls, crab Rangoon and fried rice over two separate order dates. Rice was greasy and not very flavorful- kinda gross. Egg roll was average. Come to think of it, everything was average overall and had a weird after taste. This place is close to home, but I'll go back to ordering from New Star in Elmwood Park from now on. read more

I usually go to happy chef, but this particular day I wanted to try the Mongolian beef, however when I looked at the menu they had it in combination form, chicken, shrimp and beef... Oh my God when I put it in my mouth, it was bursting with flavor, I have had it delivered and I stay on the 3rd fl. Of my bldg, the delivery was quick and when I buzzed the door to come down and pick it up the delivery guy was kind enough (every time) to bring it up, boy what a relief from making that run down and back up, my food was hot and delicious a must try for everyone, delicious affordable and always hot if just prepared!!! read more

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants to order from! I called in an order for delivery and when they came the delivery driver did not get out the car. When I told him I had my infant with me he had a nasty attitude and refused to come to the door. I called the restaurant and they did not make him come to the door. I liked this place up until I discovered the delivery drivers are thieves. We ordered from the regularly until we noticed that the price the delivery driver gave was different from the total given over the phone. When we questioned the delivery driver about the difference he gave us the correct receipt then jumped in his Toyota Prius and drove off. First and last time ordering from here. Rubbery, greasy fried rice. Pointless soup that had absolutely no flavor. Mu-shu that appeared to be nothing but cabbage and soy sauce. Order took 30 minutes to prepare--and that was for carry-out!! When I asked about my order for the third time, the girl at the register said, "What, are you in a hurry?" Isn't EVERYONE in a hurry when they order Chinese take-out??! Ambiance is not your strong suit when you're operating a hole-in-the-wall joint next to a 7-11. This is the best Chinese food Around! So cheap and you get so much. I always ask for no egg rolls and substitute crab ragoon .

Fine for take out or eat in, but watch out for delivery it took them an hour and fifteen minutes and I live less than 2 miles away.

Great Chinese place with good shrimp fried rice, pot stickers, and general Tao chicken. Service is on par, they said 20 minutes and it was ready in less than that. Definitely will come back! read more

I was double charged on my debit card.The lady asked to speak with my bank, and after the bank told her that I was indeed double charged, she still didn't refund my money. , this is in regards to number one Chop Suey at 242 Chicago Avenue in Oak Park. I frequently visit this establishment let's today my complaint is for Tuesday August the 19th. The food was terrible I called the restaurant to inform them that the food was tasteless and that the sauce or gravy whatever they wanted to call it was watery. I spoke with someone she apologized but she never asked for me to bring it back in that she will replace it she just said thank you for calling. I am totally disgusted and will not be patronizing them again. I realize that everyone has bad days but when you're spending your money you want the best service possible. A surprisingly good Chinese joint. They're always busy but the service is always prompt. You give them a call, your food will be ready to be picked up in 10 minutes. Their portions are huge and the food hot. (Always!) I usually get a large orange chicken and eat it for 3 meals. Their fried rice and jalapeno chicken is tasty too. #1 Chop Suey is my number 1 guilty pleasure in the neighborhood. read more

Tried this place for the 1st time and may never go back. I went on my lunch break and ordered a lunch special. I planned to eat there so I sat at a table next to the counter waiting for my order. I see people after me getting their orders so that seemed kind of odd considering that I only ordered an egg foo yung meal. 30 minutes passed until I finally asked for my order! The guy at the counter claimed that someone had already taken my order when he called it out! B.S.! I told him that I was sitting next to the counter the whole time and he never called out my order. They were just trying to make excuses for not having prepared my order. He said they would get on it right away I waited another 10 minutes and finally got my food. It wasn't all that great. It was very bland and didn't have a lot of flavor. I doubt I'll be going back there again. I was referred to #1 chop suey by a friend I call and placed a phone order for a small veggie rice my total was under $5 I was told my order will be ready in 10mins. I drive 18 mins away to get my order I didn't have cash I had my debt card only, I walk up to the counter and give the lady my phone number & she gives my total again my order was under $5 she said u have to spend $7 in order to use your debt I reply and said u need to make that clear over the phone to make people aware she moved my order aside and start taking care of other customers so I had to wait to speak to another lady she ask me that same questions do u have cash I replied again no she goes I will do this for u this time & don't let this happen again. I was like wth lady give me my card and I will never come back here again and she goes good don't come back. i havent ordered from this place in a while so had 2 get some good chinese food 4 the new year! ordered the pot stickers, shrimp toast, crab rangoons and pepper steak combo. the combo was soooo much food! they always give u so much that u have food leftover for at least 2 more meals afterwards. everything is delicious and they also give u a lot of soy sauce & sweet n sour sauce. some places are stingy with their sauces but this place gives a generous amount every time u order. will keep coming back to this place! read more

I have eatten at their restaurant since high school.....back in the 90's when they owned the location on Addison and Belmont near Lane Tech. Their ingredients are always fresh and cooked to perfection. I did not give 5 stars BC their customer service is not always the best. read more

We've gone to Number One Chop Suey since we first moved nearby, 15 years ago. We've always been very pleased with the food and service. Favorites are: Broccoli Beef, Orange Chicken, Shrimp Chop suey, bubble tea smoothies....It's all good, and the people who work there are very nice. Their website clearly states they deliver within a five mile radius of the restaurant and I live maybe 3 miles away at most. When I called to place an order the woman said she didn't recognize my street name so they can't deliver. When I gave directions she claimed it was too far north. I pointed out what the website says and she told me I must be mistaken even though I was reading directly off of their website. (If you're wondering why I don't just pick it up, I can't drive and don't like to take the bus alone at night) I'll just stick with the Chicago location on Addison on my way home from work. Family favorite for carry-out after a long week. Always a longer wait then what they say over the phone, but delicious old-school Chinese carry-out at very reasonable pricing. Their egg rolls, wonton soup, sesame chicken and fried rice are all classics but very good. We order a large catering order for a party once/year, and it's always a hit. read more

This is not based on the food but the fact that grub hub says they offer free delivery but was not the case when I called in my order. On top of that the person who answered wanted to argue with me when I asked about the amount and suggestion to update grubhub saying they do charge for delivery. Delivery took more than an hour and I live only 2 miles from the restaurant. Then the delivery guy doesn't even attempt to use the call box and come up to my apartment, I had to go to the door to pay him. Worst service ever, worst overall experience ever.
