I purchased my first Subaru here in 2009. I enjoyed working with one of their sales consultants (who happens to be female) on the test drive and sale. I didn't get a good vibe from her boss, but I was very glad to be helped by her, especially since the purchase came at a difficult time for me. The dealership was very accommodating and even let me borrow one of the cars overnight! At the last minute, I decided to buy a different model, and received a nice discount since it was the last one and a manual transmission. When I actually had my car serviced here, they did a decent job. The problem, however, is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of their service center or to schedule an appointment within 3-4 weeks. I called approximately 10 times over a 2 week span, and never once talked to an actual person. I was immediately put on hold and would stay there for 5-10 minutes before I eventually would hang up. There is no option to speak to a person, you just simply get put on immediate hold. I started to wonder if they were even open for business anymore. I even tried calling the operator for the entire Cochran center, and was also placed on indefinite hold. This is unacceptable service. When I FINALLY got in touch with someone 2 weeks later, they had no open appointments for the next 3 weeks. I eventually decided to use another local Subaru dealership where my business was valued and appreciated. Day West Subaru is a much better option in this regard. I can also speak to their sales staff. When I was looking to buy a new car last year, I went to their show room before anywhere else because it was the closest subaru dealership. I stood around for 20-30 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my presence. At that point I was just staying to see how long it would actually take someone to speak to me. Even a front desk clerk to tell me that someone would be with me shortly would've been enough to keep my business, but instead people would deliberately not look at me as they walked by. Again, I ended up taking my business to another Subaru dealership I have purchased from previously that values my business. In this regard I would highly recommend Spangler Subaru in Johnstown if you can manage the drive. I have purchased two new vehicles from them and they are spectacular In summary, this is the worst dealership I have had the displeasure of working with. read more

This review relates solely to the service center. The level of price gouging that occurs is downright shameful. Do not be fooled by the lure of the "free" inspection, as you will still pay $58 even if everything is fine. In addition, we were charged $60 to replace windshield wipers and $38 to replace 2 bulbs (this was down from the originally quoted $60) needed to pass inspection. For reference, we would've spent about $30 total for these parts at the store. To be fair, we had the option of replacing these items ourselves and returning within 30 days to have the car re-inspected, but after spending 2 hours at the service center, we chalked it up to a learning experience; save your money and go elsewhere. read more

As a single woman, walking into a car dealer is not something to look forward to. But I was pleasantly surprised. I bought my Subaru Outback 2015 from here. Mr. Steve P. was polite, professional and knowledgeable. He checked the inventory and explained how prices are determined to assure me that I was not getting ripped off. He kept me posted and accommodated my pick-up day. Mr. Steve also answered questions over email and text. There were no surprises with the payment process. Mr. Dave was friendly and had all the papers ready. I know what it's like to buy a car, And was afraid of yet another scar. SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I've had an electrical problem plaguing my car. I called in the morning and they took me that afternoon. Told me it would take about an hour to an hour-and-a-half for diagnosis and it did. They did a software update and told me if this didn't fix the problem to bring it back for a new battery. The experience was superb (except for the customer waiting room which was way too cold and the TV was way too loud). read more

My husband and I did a lot of researching to find the perfect first car to purchase as husband and wife. We both have rather old vehicles are were ready to break down and get something we really wanted, fully loaded. We knew we wanted a Subaru (either Outback or Forester), so my husband decided to stop in to #1 Cochran one Saturday while I was working. He got all the specs figured out on the the two models. We returned a week later where I had the pleasure of meeting salesman Steve Phillips. He took his time giving a second overview of the vehicles for me and really adjusted our visit to cater to what we wanted. I especially appreciated that he encouraged me to test-drive both a 4-cylinder and V6 Outback to see the 4-cylinder really was a great car. I appreciated that he didn't push us into the bigger engine just because it would be a bigger price tag. Toward the end of my initial visit, he gave my husband and me some time to ourselves to discuss and crunch numbers and was never once pushy. We decided to put in an order for a vehicle then. This past weekend we picked up our new Subaru Outback and couldn't be happier. He spent a ton of time going over all the features. And another gentleman, Dave, who did our paperwork was also really great. Reading some of these reviews, I'm a little nervous how service at the dealership will go in the future. But we were encouraged to email our salesman to make appointments; so, I trust we'll get our new car in when it needs it. Steve Phillips at #1 Cochran Subaru is awesome! My Subaru Impreza is the perfect car for Pittsburgh weather and hills--and Steve made the leasing process painless for this older single gal. I'd normally rather eat glass than go into a car dealership but Steve and #1 Cochran Subaru have literally wiped that fear and dread from my mind. Got a great deal, super thorough orientation to my new car, and the final paperwork was quick and easy. Most importantly, Steve clued me in on what I needed to do before I could lease since I was coming in from Chicago without owning a car. He made sure I knew where to get my PA license and reminded me about getting insurance in PA. And the Subaru Impreza is impressive on hills, snow and ice--all of which I encountered my first two weeks driving to my new job. Haven't purchased here yet, but have taken my Subaru in several times and had great experiences with them, a few months ago, took our 2011 Honda CR-V in to trade in, unfortunately we have only had it about a year and still owe way to much on it, the sales man we worked with was amazing though he took us on a great test drive of the new Subaru Legacies, The sells man showed us everything we asked to see and even took us on an almost hour long test drive to show us every feature, granted I already own a Subaru, so some of it was not necessary, but the new things where very nice to see, now after all of that we got back to the show room, and by this point it was very close to closing time, and after running numbers and finding out the car would cost almost double we are paying for the old car, damn negative equity, he was super nice and willfully all the way and even when we said no, and thank you for his time he was super great about it and not in a way that made us feel like we wasted his time. Which many places do. I honestly can not em ever his name, but be had. A nickname of honest joe I think, gray guy, and we totally plan on buying someday, just not as soon as we had hopped. read more

My salesperson, Matt, took a lot of time test driving several cars and was knowledgable but low key. He offered a very reasonable price without a lot of back and forth or games. Worst buying experience ever. We were here today, the sales man was very rude. We bought a 2014 Subaru outback last year and want to get another Subaru for my husband this year. He wanted to test drive the outback, legacy and forester to compare which one he likes the most. The sales man was very cold and made us feel so uncomfortable. He gave us a feeling that he doesn't want to explain to us about the car. There was rarely any conversation during the test drive. Also, he was texting during our test drive!!! So unprofessional!!! The tires were new but cheap and I slipped and slid on snowy days. The power steering kept locking up. I'm not a fan.

First. To make an appointment is ridiculous. They put you in a queue, and once you finally get to #1, a recording comes on that they helping other customers so leave a message. My car needed inspected. It failed due to rear brakes, so they said. I was surprised but thankfully have a husband who does brakes. He bought new brakes, jacked the car up, took old brake pads off and changed brakes that didn't need changed. Said they have another 15000 miles on them. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me? I will not go back. I will not refer anyone to them. I will not buy another car from them. read more

wish I had bought my car here. Bought a 2015 Forester at I 79 Honda in Mount Morris and with in 2 weeks severe tire wear in the back. To make a long story short they refused to fix it. I work in Monroeville near the Subaru dealership and took it there for the tires and to look at it. within 5 minutes they found the problem - it was a very bent sway bar. They not only replaced the tires but spoke to Subaru and got it covered. Greg, our customer service guy ordered the part and called me when it came in a day later. They have a courtesy van (within 5 miles I think)so I came up at 8am, they drove me to work, called when it was finished, I called the van to let them know when I wanted to be picked up. The van arrived right on time, car was done and the difference in how it drives is amazing. Even though I didn't buy it there they did everything they could to make it right - you can be sure my next car will be coming from there! Thank you Greg for all your help. read more

I brought my 2011 Legacy to a different dealership for extensive body work after an accident. A few months later it became evident the work performed by the other dealership was extremely problematic, so I made an appointment with Larry at Subaru Service to diagnose the issues with my car. It took several weeks for insurance adjusters to perform their evaluation and ultimately total the car, but Larry made the process easy and painless by calling me with frequent updates and setting me up with a loaner car. I really felt like he was on my side. Once my car was officially totaled, Larry sent me to Anna in sales. She quickly scheduled an appointment for me to take some test drives. I had a lot of questions about specs and trims, and Anna always gave me a clear and detailed answer. This is the fourth Subaru my family has purchased with Anna, and we will continue to do so! I purchased a 2015 Subaru Legacy from Cochran in November 2014. I was comparing prices and service centers between three Pittsburgh area Subaru dealers. (This was my first time dealing with Cochran.) Cochran had the inventory, a nice and comfortable (perhaps a bit cramped during busy times) service center (I always have to wait for my vehicle, though Cochran provides loaner cars if service is going to take hours), and the dealer was very helpful but not to the point of being pushy. Since November, I've had my Legacy in their Service Center twice. The customer representatives are extraordinarily helpful and understanding. The service has been quick. There are plans to remodel and expand the waiting area, and that is the ONLY minor complaint I would have at this time (4.5 stars may have been more accurate, though 4.75 stars would be exact). I plan to keep coming back to Cochran for service for as long as I own this Legacy. read more

Had my 2011 Subaru Forester serviced yesterday. I had noticed a rumbling, and sure enough, the rotors needed to be replaced. This is not an inexpensive job, but I have confidence that the work was performed correctly. The Service Department personnel are great - Charlie and Greg really take the time to explain what needs to be done. I know that if I was not satisfied with the service, they would do everything they could to make it right. Fortunately, my car is running great, and I would highly recommend them. read more

This was the best car buying experience I've ever had. Steve at Cochran Subaru was amazing. He let me test drive the same car several times and answered my million questions, and never once did he say, "what can we do to get you to drive it home today." I hate that. I visited three other Subaru dealerships, and they were all pushy. All roads led back to Steve. He matched the higher trade-in value another place was going to give me, and he threw in some other extras. This is our first Subaru, and after 8 months, we love it more and more. Great selection of Subarus in stock. Very accommodating with regard to multiple test drives of two different models when we couldn't make up our minds - all but the first one without our salesperson being present in the car (Shelly, who was excellent). This allowed us to pay more attention to the true feel of each car and discuss differences freely. Garrett gave us a great price on the vehicle, not only matching another decent price from a competitor but beating it by a satisfying amount. Once the decision was made the purchase was wrapped up very efficiently and the car was readied quickly. Chris handled the paperwork pleasantly and professionally - the usual, available extended warranties were reviewed without pressure and the subject was dropped as soon as we declined. In fact, there was never any pressure from anyone at any time. Overall, this was a painless and satisfying vehicle purchase and we will definitely be taking our daughter there if/when she decides to buy her new Subaru. read more

My adult son was looking for a used Subaru. My husband and I said we would help as we are retired and he works full time. I found the car in one of the their ads that was perfect for my son and my son agreed! I called the dealer and spoke to a Nicholas Zannit. sp? He told me that yes they have the car but it hadn't been through the service department yet. I said that the ad said it was ready to go. He told me he would call when it was ready. I called back or emailed within the next few days. He said it was still being serviced and that this car was in high demand!? I said what do you mean by that--you aren't going to sell it to me? He said, oh no, he would let me know when my son could test drive it. At one point we made an appointment for one of the salesmen to meet with my son for the test drive but that was canceled due to it was still in the service department. The last conversation we had he was going to call at the beginning of the following week and he told me that on Thursday or Friday. My husband and son were going looking for cars that weekend and decided to stop by Cochran's. A salesman came up to them and they asked questions about cars they saw and then as an afterthought asked about the car that Nicholas Zannit had promised he would call me about. The saleman looked through all of his paperwork and he said he had no knowledge of a car like that and he would know if it was there and would know if it was in being serviced! So, I can only speculate that number 1. Nicholas Zannit did not believe a woman could be serious about looking for a car for her son and obviously had no respect for me as he kept me hanging for 2 wks. 2. The car never existed and was only a lower priced Subaru posted to get people into the car dealership. I actually waited for a few wks before I wrote this waiting for the possibility that he would get back to me as promised but no such luck. We did find another Subaru at another dealer for my son. The sales tactics that Nicholas Zannit used are what gives all used car salesmen a bad name. I have no doubt that he lied to me from day one and that the ad they posted was a false ad. I would think long and hard before buying a used car from Cochran because I can only believe that Cochran stands behind that type of sleazy dishonest sales techniques. read more
