Spicy roll combo and crispy shrimp roll
    Brian W.

If you are looking for a nice atmosphere with upscale food and innovation, this isn't the place for you, but if you want some reasonably priced and tasty Chinese food or cheap sushi, this hits the spot. This is definitely a hole in the wall, but the prices can't be beat, especially in West End/Foggy Bottom. Back when I lived in DC I would come here often, so I was happy to see it still standing during my recent visit. This time, I went with an appetizer and sushi, but it's reliable for any cheap and delicious Asian American food! Crispy Shrimp Roll ($5.25) - Pretty standard spring roll with shrimp inside. Not a bad price for some deep fried delights! Spicy Roll Combo ($18.25) - This three-roll combo is the best price you'll find anywhere. I wish I could get this back home, and the fact that it comes with soup or salad AND is available all day, not just for lunch, is amazing. The sushi itself is nice and tasty - it's not super high end but it's definitely above average. I'd happily get this anytime I'm in DC! It comes with spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy California roll - all of which are delicious and absolutely worth the price. The restaurant is definitely a bit of a dive, but you can't beat the prices, and the taste is as good as any average/above average Chinese place. Definitely don't skip out on the sushi too - also great prices and really tasty too! I will come back here every time I'm in DC for an affordable and delicious meal!

Definitely a hole downstairs BUT WOW!!! Food is AMAZING!! At first I wasn't going to go downstairs because the window was not the cleanest but the stairs and entry looked clean so we entered. A lady greeted us and immediately came and motioned us to sit at a round table. The interior looks run down or they need better lighting. Every single item we ordered was outstanding! It wasn't overly sweet, or oily as so many Asian restaurants do. The ingredients were very fresh. Portions were good not too large nor too little. Give this place a chance, you won't regret it unless you are the type that thinks Panda Express is the best Asian food then go eat at PE. This is very authentic Asian food! LOVE LOVE IT!! Will definitely be back! If it wasn't for the ambiance it would be 5 stars. No park lot, street parking difficult to find a space.

Looking for a quiet sushi or Asian food place? While staying at The Fairmont for a conference I had lunchtime to chill. Found this gem. Friendly service, large menu of hot and cold options. I love sweetheart rolls and it was the only one I could find near me. So glad because I may have dinner here tonight too! Peaceful place, good food, no worries.

First time trying 1 fish 2 fish and I'm ultimately impressed! Sushi was fresh and delicious!

I got take out sushi here and got the spicy tuna. Super simple but it was delicious! Minimal rice and all fish. Because of this, it was great next day!

I ordered from here on UberEats when my wife had COVID when we were supposed to be with friends in Williamsburg. The restaurant called to let us know they were out of the passion fruit bubble tea so we got two mango ones which were both delicious. For food we had Tom Yom Soup, Miso Soup, a Rainbow Roll, a Sakura roll, Beef Stewed Noodle Soup, Drunken Noodles, Orange Chicken, and Mango Chicken. I ate the items first and then gave them to my wife so we could share and not spread COVID. The food was all delicious, the prices were reasonable, and the portions were generous. We ate some of the food for dinner but finished most of it the next day.

Based on food alone it's a 4. Experience drags it down. Wait staff acts like you bothering them that you are there. It's in a basement so it's divey (which is ok). No fountain drinks so you pay high price for a can or bottle. Might be best as takeout if an option.

The menu has so many options, really diverse. We got spicy tuna, spicy crunchy shrimp, shrimp tempura roll, seaweed salad, beef drunken noodles, steamed chicken dumplings, and fried pork dumplings. The food was tasty, fresh, and good portion sizes. We will order again!

Advice: sitting outside might be better in the cooler weather because we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes and fighting off flies. I really hope that they consider some type of nature oils near the tables to help guests feel more comfortable outdoors. Also, it would help to get more than one fan. Hospitality: aside from the bugs encounter, I would say that we did not have reservations (they were packed inside) so the hostess was nice enough to accommodate us outdoor. Our waiter, Anthony was a ball of energy and he really understands the dishes and was able to give great recommendations, some of which we plan to try on our next visit. Portions: the dishes are shareable so we only ordered the beef noodles and walnut shrimp and both were more than enough for a party of 2. DRINKS: I ordered the dark and stormy which can best be described as not too sweet and perfect for anyone desiring a well balanced drink. The bourbon smash was also really good. Well balanced with a smoky flavor which I loved. FOOD: Beef noodles- gosh this was so divine! Be warned however, there is a bit of spice to it but nothing that you won't be able to handle. I think the spices paired with the preparation of the noodles and the beef all made this dish memorable. Walnut shrimp- another memorable dish which came with a side of white rice. The shrimps were HUGE! But the flavors on each shrimp paired with that crunchy texture and creamy sauce, spectacular! Safe to say that we enjoyed both dishes and cannot wait to return and reserve indoor tables lol

I don't even know how to describe the energy in this place, but you can just feel it the moment you walk in. The restaurant has a dark aesthetic that gives it such a cool, cozy ambiance. My daughter and I ordered the Dan Dan noodles and spicy wontons. Everything was so filling that we ended up ordering another bowl of the Dan Dan noodles! And honestly, I still crave them. The Dan Dan noodles were SO good. The sauce was the perfect combination of creamy and spicy, and there was a generous amount of minced pork that balanced everything out really well. The wontons paired perfectly with the chili sauce that came with them! They were spicy--my ears turned red and my nose started running--but I literally could not stop going back for another bite. Even the wontons alone were incredibly filling. I don't live anywhere near this place, and I genuinely wish I did. I traveled pretty far to get here, and I'd absolutely do it again. This was one of those meals that stays on your mind long after you've left!

We loved the magnolia blossom oolong tea. Service was super fast and friendly. We ate to our hearts' content and finished in about 45 mins of the 75 available. They have runners to bring out the food as it's prepared; no carts. Overall, I do not think I will be coming back here for dim sum. And they dont have the dim sum ladies that pushes the cart around. To me this place did not give me the real dim sum experience. See my review below. Food: Their unlimited dim sum selection is very tame. They do have some signature plates, but I felt it was lacking in many areas such as veggies, pastries, and other dumplings. The taste overall was just okay. I've honestly had better elsewhere, probably because it was unlimited. It didn't taste fresh, and everything was very greasy. The food came out neither hot nor warm. It was room temperature, which was disappointing. Nothing on their menu really stood out as different for me. Also, you have to ask for sauces and other condiments that are often placed on the table during dim sum service (e.g., chili oil, soy sauce, vinaigrette). Dim sum is part of my upbringing, and the food was definitely catered to Western palates, which contributed to it tasting just okay to me. Price: I believe it was $36 or $38 per person for their unlimited dim sum. We ordered a pot of tea that cost $12, which is insane to me. I do not believe the total price we paid matches the quality of food we received. Service: The service was pretty good. The staff were attentive and checked in throughout our meal. They were quick with our requests for sauces and refills of water and tea. Everyone was very nice, and they cleared finished plates pretty quickly. Ambiance: This place offers a quiet environment for dim sum. It felt light and airy, calm, and without a lot of hustle and bustle. This is very different from the kind of environment I am accustomed to when going out for dim sum. It is usually loud, and everyone is yelling over each other. That, to me, is the real dim sum experience.

Service has to be 3 stars though. Our server said the gochujang mayo wasnt spicy, when gochujang is (it's got a mildly strong kick that quickly evens out/dissipates) so that's just incorrect to tell people who can't handle heat. More importantly, we were all done with desert at roughly 9pm and it wasn't until 9:40, despite multiple moments of eye contact from a few of us, that our server even came to our table to clear our plates. We'd all clearly been done, not even nibbling, for almost that whole time. In that time, other than his regular duties, our server seemed to do other idle things or "end of the evening" tasks, setting up other tables, stacking plates on them, etc. instead of checking on us. Again, a few of us made eye contact a couple times, which can indicate (along with none of us having touched our plates for 5-10 minutes) that we're done. Other plates had been cleared almost right away. We were also all left wanting for water at the end as no other staff came by to see if we needed more. So yeah, not thrilled about that. Also, it was weirdly a smidge too warm in Planta Queen tonight. I suspect the AC just wasn't on as strong because of the AQI in DC (on June 17, 2026) but it was noticeable.

I really wanted to love the Sunday AYCE brunch at Nobu DC, but unfortunately, it just wasn't worth…read morethe price. There were a few highlights. The Karage Chicken, miso soup, cucumber salad, and Yellowtail Jalapeño rolls were all enjoyable. The Yellowtail Jalapeño in particular had good flavor, but I really wish there had been more fish in the roll. The biggest disappointment was the sushi selection. There were only about three different varieties of sushi, with different sauces and toppings being used to create some variation. The rolls also had very little fish compared to the amount of rice. The salmon was served seared, which I felt masked the quality of the fish. For a restaurant at Nobu's price point and reputation, I expected better quality and a much more impressive selection. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but the AYCE brunch simply didn't deliver the quality or variety I expected from Nobu. There are some good dishes, but for the price, I wouldn't do the brunch again.
