Sunday morning 9AM, I want breakfast and I want to try something we've never had before. When we walked in we releaized we were very close to the youngest people there and we aren't young. the other thing that stood out was all the staff. They must be doing something right to have that much staff at one time. I was torn between Abbie's hashbrowns and chicken fried steak. My husband made it work. he got the chicken fried steak and I got the hashbrowns. Mine was good, the only complaint would be they were skimpy on the toppings. The chicken fried steak was interesting. Two round circles. The breading was pretty greasy tasting. It's just not what I was expecting. service was good. it appears they don't give straws unless asked for. Sorry, I like a straw, I'm thirsty. Over all a good experience. It wasn't quite full while we were there but can imagine that when church gets out, it will be packed. Bathroom was in decent shape. Great find! Great menu! Great service! You can tell walking in that there are many regulars and you just get a feeling of "this is gonna be good" too. They have a wide selection of breakfasts and lunch/diner items. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was FULL of wonderful breakfast flavors. We stopped at this breakfast place when it came up on Yelp, and our normal spot had a line out the door. It is a quaint little place in a modern Urbandale strip mall, not on a corner as the name would imply, where the majority of the customer base was elderly. The menu was large, the staff was pretty friendly. Diner coffee has to be one of my favorite weekend morning luxuries, so I was expecting to enjoy a warm cup in a cute mug. The mug was cute, but the coffee was not very great. It was hot and dark, but it was acidic and just very low par for even a diner brew. Fast forward to the food- it was made well, how we ordered it, but it was bland. One of the problems when you're a pretty good home chef, is that you sometimes come across dishes that you know you could have made for cheaper and better on your own- that was this experience. Albeit, we were paying for the convenience and there's not much to complain about when the overall atmosphere was more the diner experience for the regular crowd, versus the focus being on the food. We likely won't be back, because our regular joint has yet to be topped and we can't justify spending money on a meal we could make better for half the price, but if you're looking for a place with nice people, traditional midwestern breakfast, and sub-par coffee that is cheap and hot, 100th St Corner Cafe is the place for you. read more

This restaurant is following the trend of sneaking in a debit/credit card fee. It's poor treatment of their customers. They have a sign at the cash stand that says "We give a 3% cash discount". Then you keep reading the very long paragraph "The menu prices are listed at the cash price". AKA, we charge you a 3% debit/credit card fee and we won't even be upfront about it. This is 2019, debit/credit cards are the primary way of paying and they aren't going anywhere. Customers vote with their wallet, you can't let places start charging you a fee for spending your own money this way. Most people don't carry cash anymore. There are many many breakfast places around, just as good. Go there and avoid this place. Any place that wants to charge cash prices can hang out and see how their bottom line is if only cash customers show up. My wife took me to 100th St. Cafe saying that it's her go to breakfast place, so of course I had the try it. WOW...I'm glad that I did the biscuits and gravy were awesome and the bacon was nice and thick and cooked perfectly. I tried my wife's order of Angie's hash browns, which are hash browns cooked with peppers, onion and mushrooms and I will definitely order those next time. The perfect big breakfast is half order of biscuits and gravy with half order of Angie's hash browns with two over easy eggs. Go get it. You're in for a treat! read more

We tried this place for breakfast for the first time today. It was very quaint and there seem to be a lot of regular customers in there. We had excellent service. We got one kids platter, one Breakfast Platter and a half order of biscuits and gravy. I cannot believe how fast the food came to our table. It was all pretty good. The biscuits and gravy had maybe a little bit too much spices or something in it for our liking. I noticed on our receipt we were charged a service fee and when I got up to the register I noticed that they give you a discount for paying with cash. I have never seen this before at a restaurant. This Corner Cafe has no business connection with Cindy's Corner Cafe (that was at two locations on the same street), but it does employ some of the same cooks. I am a fan of breakfast cafes, and found this one by accident today while going to the post office. They have great hash browns (the half order was a full plate!) and friendly staff. I had them Waffle House mine, making them crispy and "scattered, covered, chunked and peppered" and they were pretty close to the W.H. gold standard for hash browns. The place is clean, and the menu features an assortment of breakfast items and sandwiches. Most are in the $8-$10 range, which is a tad higher than what I expect for breakfast plates, BUT the quality backs that up. If you like breakfast places, you should try out 100th St. Corner Cafe. Just don't get lost and end up at one of the other "Corner Cafes" nearby. read more

Small town diner feel, and yummy dinner food. Went here for breakfast since the locals always talk about the giant pancakes. However since I prefer my breakfast in burrito form I went with that and I was pleased. Prices were very affordable and bang for your buck breakfast spot. They claim they're at 50% capacity for social distancing. Looked more like 80%. And apparently, they haven't heard that masks help stop the spread of covid, especially with people that are asymptomatic. None of the staff was wearing masks. Sooooo disappointed on this visit. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelette, hash browns and an english muffin. The food comes out and I received a ham and cheese omelette, the thinnest amount of hash browns that I've ever seen and an english muffin that I had to turn on its side to drain the butter off. It was dripping. The omelette was very greasy as well. They must have taken the very top part of the hash brown and put it on the plate, leaving the rest of the potatoes. Biscuits and gravy is one of my staple diner foods and this version was great and hearty. Eggs etc also good, not stellar but well done and plentiful for the price. Nice big table with WiFi; perfect for working with comfy chairs . I came in at 6am and it was buzzing but it's big enough that it still felt fairly empty. Also, it's in a strip mall with an easy-to-miss sign, which makes me think it's more of a locals secret. Great service too. Just left here for breakfast this morning my husband ordered the classic with bacon and I ordered the Chris hash browns overall I think this is a really cute mom and pop feeling restaurant we will return and bring the kids next time Update: have now been back 5+ time with and without the kids. We all love it and prefer it over any other breakfast spot in Urbandale. My son loves getting the steak and eggs or chicken strips. Breakfast was absolutely amazing! I ordered The Big Breakfast. Came with 3 eggs, toast, hashbrowns and 3 sausage links. I ordered the eggs overeasy and they were cooked to perfection. Yolks were perfect for dipping and the whites were cooked all the way through. A young kid next to me ordered blieberry pancakes and they were two of the biggest pancakes I've ever seen. My husband and I had a rare lunch out together and he decided he wanted to go to the Corner Cafe for lunch as typically their food is good and they usually have decent service. -- Not Today. We arrived a little after 12:30 This is a seat yourself place, so we did. It was busy so we thought it would take a little time, but this visit was horrible! From the time of sitting down to being noticed took 10 min. Time from being noticed to having a waitress stop by another 5 min. When she asked us for our drink order we already knew what we wanted so we placed or food order a Full size Hot roast beef meal and a Mushroom and Swiss with sweet potato fries (those fries cost extra, which I knew, so no big deal) In about normal time we got our drinks delivered, she had a tray with coffee on it too and the coffee spilled on our silverware sets, so she gave us extra napkins Then our wait began. 30 Min later our waitress stops by to let us know that they had ran out of the hot roast beef my husband had ordered and that they were currently making more, now. We wait another 10 min and she comes back with my Mushroom and Swiss burger and sweet potato fries (the fries are lukewarm and there are very few of them - a McDonald's regular fries would have more in it) She said they are still working on the hot roast beef, and asks if we would like the hot turkey instead (this is the first time she has asked or offered a change from what was ordered) We replied No but make it to go as we had to get back to work. I got up and asked another waitress for a To Go box for my burger and fries, she got it for me right away and when she saw my food was whole and untouched she asked if everything was alright. We explained we had been waiting about 40 min for our food and we had to get back to work. I think I overheard the 2nd waitress tell the manager of our problem. They took $4 off the bill for our wasted time. Needless to say we were very upset by the time we left. Had our waitress simply advised us right away that what was ordered they were out of, I believe we could have had a much different type of visit. Great cute little breakfast spot! This has an undercover gem among locals. The people who come here appear to be regulars. I love the local and cozy feel of the restaurant. The prices are great and they provide great portion sizes. I am a huge pancake lover and LOVE the size and fluffiness of the pancakes. They are huge. Like they take up the whole plate huge. Another huge perk I like about this place is that they serve lunch items during breakfast as well.
