Eraser sized pebble in my burrito that I just chomped down on
    Lauren R.

Need to bid JV Tequila adieu and I took my review down from 4 stars to 3 because I do believe the food is good and I'm hoping this was a one-off problem. Went in 2 days ago for a chicken burrito, they're so big they last me 3 days. I just cut off a small section to eat for dinner and chomped down on a pebble the size of a pencil eraser, thought I cracked a molar but seems to be ok. Still hurts like heck but it's still there. I'll have it checked out anyway, but how does a pebble that size get into a burrito? Did they drop the burrito on the floor when they made it? Or maybe it was a pebble from the beans, I know you have to go through dry beans to check for stones. Maybe this one made it through QC. It was scary enough to make me not want to go back and eat mush for the time being.

This place really is hit or miss. Today I got a burrito with spoiled pork and a greassy Pupusa. The smell of the burrito was so horrible, there is no way the person preparing it could have missed it.

I tried this place out because my dad goes here when he wants spanish food so I figure I would give it a try because I'm looking for a good place I can keep going back to and this will be one of the two places. I got a small dish with yellow rice and brown beans with pepper steak. It didn't have any bad tastes to it or anything that grossed me out but it could potentially have a little more flavor to it but besides lacking the flavor I wanted it wasn't bad at all. The staff seemed like normal people not extremely nice but not mean. My favorite go to place!!

The only issue I have w this place that it's overpriced ! Minimum your paying 10$ for a plate of rice and beans w some type of meat. God forbid you get something extra , you're paying 15$-20 easily. Overall the quality is great ....

One of the best places for Spanish food ever. Small, family owned, delicious food. Large portions for low price. You won't find a better deal for food this good. This place started as a small, very small and cramped seating area. Now they have purchased the store next to them and expanded. This goes to show you that with a great product, wonderful service, and determination growth will happen.

Wow! All I can say is food is authentic to taste and fresh. Owner is there so he is proud of his food and establishment. Clean!! Clean!! Clean!! Unlike many other places, you walk in and you will not be afraid to sit down to eat. Cuban sandwich is amazing as well as the empenada !! Portions are huge! Come with an appetite!

I have been here several times now and this place has been consistently outstanding! It's reasonably priced, huge portions, and amazing food! This little bodega-type store front is is a Latin cuisine heaven. Everything is as close to homemade as you can get it, and no matter what you're in the mood for, they've got you covered. You can order off their mind-blowing menu, or ask for that something specific you want; they've got it, or they'll make it for you. The owner and the rest of the staff, are always very pleasant and super patient with me, the "white guy," asking all sorts of questions, and ordering everything in sight. If you haven't gone here yet... go. Get cultured. This place is the real deal.

I'll put it plain and simple, flavorless food. I'm not impressed at all. The service sucks. I try this place once again and very disappointed

I won't go anywhere else for pernil, rice and beans. Awesome Spanish food. The platanos are always fresh sweet and tender. Friendly staff.

I asked my spouse. Ordered chile rellenos, the three taco meal, and had a pork belly appetizer that we shared between us. Took most of it home, and I have to say, I love Mexican/Latin food, but this was the blandest selection of food I have had since trying a can of Amy's vegetarian Tom Kha soup. Amy sucks every last bit of flavor, joy and life from Thai cuisine, and while the food at Don Quixote wasn't depressing, it lacked what I expect from Latin food: A little spice, some savor, cultural pride maybe. I guess that's why we hadn't been back. But, if you look at reviews, most others seem to like it pretty well, so you'll have to decide for yourself. I may have been there too early, just as the kitchen was warming up, or maybe just an "off" day. Your experience may vary.

Upon arriving back in NY yesterday, we were vexed with the options for dinner; wanting a wine bar…read morewith Old World characteristics, food being of relative importance. We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. To wit, there was nothing here but an exceptional experience with a like-minded wine enthusiast. I felt welcomed and in the frith of old kin. Nasty, belligerent, dullard atmosphere- indeed not.
