1229 was simply awesome. Happened to find it on Yelp while looking for a seafood place. Was a little out of the way for us since we were staying at the beach, but I'm so glad we went. They don't take reservations, walk ins only, but we were going on a weekday so our large party of 9 was quickly seated. Our server, Jimmy, was superb. Very patient ( we had 5 kids in the group) . This is a super nice looking restaurant. Everything we ordered was spot on. I forgot to take pics of our food coz everything looked so good and we dove right in. We had a few drinks. We ordered the Viets boil, which had mussels, shrimp, sausage, corn & potatoes in an awesome spicy sauce. My hubby polished off the remaining sauce like a soup! My friend ordered the Asian salad with the blackened grouper , which he said was the best he had. I had the PoBoy with grouper, delicious but I wish they had put more of the bang bang sauce. My kids loved the kids burger which came with a side of fries or salad and it was a good salad , cut up cucumbers , tomatoes, lettuce and onions, not some random leaves thrown together like a lot of places. We also tried the grouper bites, it was , I'd only suggest having more of the bang bang sauce! My kids loved that, Jimmy, our server, treated them so nicely with respect , like little adults. 1229 Shine is definitely worth the drive, if you are staying at the beach for a nice dinner and don't want the touristy prices and food. Sadly our 2nd visit disappointed Went for lunch yesterday- ordered from the Gluten Free menu The Grouper bite app was mostly "bottom of the bag" crumbles--having 3 or 4 small pieces of fish - and not enough sauces to cover the pieces. We asked for more sauce and did get more. Th Ceviche was a bowl of chopped red onion, green/red pepper, a tiny bit of mango THAT HAD THE SKIN ON ... and cucumber. Our first time in Myrtle Beach and we got in late. A lot of restaurants were closing but 1229 Shine was still open. So glad it was! The restaurant was nicely decorated with subdued lighting with contemporary music playing at moderate levels. We were seated quickly and our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered the fried calamari for an appetizer. The amount served was enough for an entree! The calamari was served with a tasty sauce and with thinly sliced Serrano peppers scattered on top. Not too spicy though. The calamari were large and fried to perfection. For the entree, I had the fried basket with fried grouper and fried shrimp, served with coleslaw, hushpuppies and fries. Once again, the portions were large, well prepared and delicious. My wife had the Asian salad with grouper bites added. She was well pleased with her meal. This restaurant is highly recommended but bring your appetite and to- go boxes! read more

Fantastic!! Came here on our last night of vacation hoping to get some good eats after a miserable dinner at Hook and Ladder the night before. Food was delicious!! Ended up getting three rounds of raw bar because they were fresh and tasty! The drinks were perfect. Service was fantastic, Larkin was our server and she lead us through a really great experience!!! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Market Common! You can't find better oysters anywhere around here and I love their mezcal drinks! They also have amazing deviled eggs and shrimp/mango ceviche with plantain chips. I'm drooling just thinking about it right now honestly. This place has the coolest atmosphere, too. They have this cute little corner booth in the back that I always sit at. I also found out that they have salsa night dancing under the stars! This is a cozy lil spot that reminds me of Long Island beach bars. Food is different BUT good. Service always exceeds.

Nice, clean establishment. Food was on point and very tasty. We had the cajun shrimp and grits. The brunch burger and the brunch egg omlet. The cajun crab spread with crustini was amazing. We always like to eat at local restaurants when on vacation - this one has so much potential but missed the mark. We arrived late in the evening, but were done eating before closing time, didn't linger, and there were other people still there after we left, so I don't think the time explains what happened. We got two salads and planned to split them with our kids - usually we will be offered a plate to make it easier to share but not here - that was okay though, not a big deal. Our son's meal came before anyone else's. Then my husband got his burger without his side of hush puppies. My other son and I watched them eat while we waited. Then when my tacos came, my husband finally got his hush puppies as he was wrapping up his burger. I got my hush puppies with my tacos, but they didn't give me the right tacos. When I got the right tacos, they looked pitiful compared to what the gentleman next to me had previously gotten and the taco shell was greasy and floppy because it was obviously rushed. It could have all been so good - just seemed sloppy. read more

People are saying so many good thing about the place. I went with my wife and had a very bad experiences from check in to sitting down. Didn't even get to try the food. Reception didn't know where to sit customers. She did had any idea which table was available. Once we sat at the table we wait for more than 10 mins no server or anyone come by the table. Oh. My. Gosh! This place was the best! I showed up about an hour to close with three of my kids. The ambiance was great. Music was great. The waiter, Jimmy, was freaking awesome! I normally don't speak to a manager, but the service was so phenomenal I had to. And the food? Delicious! First time I had a seafood boil, and it was amazing! One of my boys had the falafel burger, and he said it was great, too. Also ordered was fried shrimp, deicious, and a burger, also delicious. Even the bathrooms were nice! We arrived at shine restaurant this evening,sat at the bar ordered drinks after we waited to get the bartender's attention. Left right away before we could order appetizers. Waited again until we could get service ordered appetizers. Over 25 minutes later our food came out very obvious our order was never placed. Several other customers who came way after us got food after food . The spinach n mozzarella rolls were empty and the 6 oyster Rockefeller which we told were extremely hot were cold. food was taken off of bill. Not very pleased with service tonight. read more

WOW! Is all I can say! This place is amazing. The food the service the atmosphere. They went all out ! Let start off with the decore, it's a modern laid back cali style restaurant, we ate during the day/evening so we got to see both settings, nice and bright interior with no over the top fish nets and tacky decor. When the lights dimmed it felt like I was in Tulum Mexico with the over the head lights and lit up bar. I mean this place is a FIND! Will be coming here again and again, now the food, although the menu isn't large it's on POINT, we literally had almost everything on the menu, I recommend the lobster slider, the boil and the won ton tacos, the fried calamari is amazing too, we also hit the raw bar and wow the oysters where fresh and flavorful. The service was also attentive and pleasant. Nobody was rude and everyone was friendly. The Shine deserves to be on Myrtle beaches top if not the best restaurant in town. read more

LISTEN. We got to 1229 Shine (my parents and I as we are visiting from NC & TN) at five minutes before happy hour closed at 7pm. We were seated, drink & app order taken within three minutes by the wonderful Jimmy. Excellent service. AND THE FOOD !! We got the shrimp cocktail, spinach wontons, tuna tacos, salmon sliders, & deviled eggs- also we tried the frozen blackberry mule & screwdriver and Pinot noir. SO GOOD. No complaints. Also the key lime pie is made in house with a berry topping- a wonderful way to end the meal with the citrus zing & buttery graham cracker crust. I don't know about y'all but I am overwhelmed (and unimpressed) by the abundance of seafood buffets in Myrtle, but this was EVERYTHING we were looking for. Cute atmosphere, clean, quick service. I came in as a group of 5. First thing, the hostess was borderline rude. There was a long wait for a table so we sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The bar tender was great! We sat at our table and we got two order of the crab dip. The dip was cold which was unexpected but still good. The appetizer definitely needs to come with more bread. I ordered the basket and they gave me the wrong food not once. Not twice. But THREE times. And then, they did not even offer me a discount on my meal that they messed up.
