Terrible customer service. The wait staff is great, but the manager Brandi is going to run this place into the ground. She could care less about the patrons that come to spend their hard earned money at this establishment. Nor does she care if your order is correct or how cold and floppy it is when it comes out to the table. FYI, if you order the "Crispy potatoes" that used to actually be crispy diced potatoes, they have now changed them to sliced southern fried potatoes that are wet and floppy. Also the menu still says CRISPY potatoes. The manager (Brandi) refused to switch the soggy potatoes slices out for hash browns and demanded we pay for new Potatoes if we didn't like them. We paid $100 today for a couple eggs, wet, floppy potatoes, and undercooked, floppy bacon. It's too bad. This place used to be our go to, but not anymore. Oh and UPDATE YOUR MENU PLS! I recently visited The 1431 Café again with my husband. He was intent on having the blueberry pancakes and I wanted to try something different. Adria was our entertaining and attentive server and we asked for suggestions regarding the smoked turkey and bacon croissant or an omelette and I asked between the Cod dinner vs. breakfast. Adria said the cod was the best around and told my husband that croissant sandwich was her fave. She let my hubby choose the pancake as his side with blueberries for 25 cents. I had the cod, plus a dinner salad and fries. The cod was truly the best fish and chips around, fries were terrific and the salad was very fresh and tasty. Husband said his sandwich was especially delicious and the pancake again perfect. We got a second pancake on the plate so I gobbled that up as well. Super food day, super server and outstanding food with large proportions. We wobbled out of the restaurant very, very happy. read more

The hostess said that they don't seat people on a fist come first serve based on weekends. Although my wife did not mention this to the hostess, but they wouldn't put a black woman on the list until her husband came in with their two small children. My wife had noticed her leave but come right back in with the two children and her husband, but in the meantime, they had seated two white families. After we were seated, we were looking for our waitress, and noticed that the waitress that ended up waiting on us, she was the waitress we had seen talking to the hostess. After we placed our order and the waitress came back with my wife's coffee, the waitress spilled some of the coffee on the table and didn't even apologize for it and when my wife asked her if she could wipe it off, the waitress wiped it off towards my wife. Afterward, I noticed a few spots on my wife's new blouse. We asked to speak to a manager and all the manager said with a smirk on her face, was sorry about that. Meanwhile my wife asked the manager if she could have a fresher cup of coffee because the coffee that was served tasted old. The manager brings my wife the same old coffee that tasted funny, so I then taste the coffee and it does taste weird. My wife waves over to the manager that was standing by the hostess this time to come over, in which the first time we were trying to get her over to the table she took a while to get over to us like she knew there was going to be a problem because she was staring right at us. So my wife was able to waver right over to us My wife then tells the manager that she doesnt know if it was the 5 creamers that she had to put in her coffee that made her coffee taste sort of bitter like the bitter taste of medicine, but that we wanted to leave because of our horrible experience and told her that we should not have to pay for the food that we barely touched. She then says that we will most definitely pay for the food. Then we asked for a discount and she would not give us a discount either. She will be hearing from our lawyer read more

Called the restaurant before heading over with my FIL & honey around 10am and asked what the wait time was - the woman over the phone said 30 mins since they're usually very busy on the weekends in the am. This was our first time eating here in years. Since it was rail yard cafe. My husband and I just moved back into the area and we love it. Adria was so amazing. Her service was immaculate. She was patient and sweet, took the time to truly explain the menu and ask all our questions. She got us exactly what we wanted and never stopped smiling. My husband got a chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy, I had the monte cristo with fries and it was all delicious. We will be going back really soon. I got here on a very packed day. This is a good sign obviously. But it took ridiculously long. When you have two kids under four the max you can do is about hour and a half before patience is gone while at a table. It took 2.5 hours total. Would I recommend coming here? Bummed out by this cafe. Pancakes were dry, and hard to swallow, burger was mediocre at best. There was no life to the cafe, servers appeared to not enjoy being there at all, the lighting was dark as all blinds were closed, and ceiling lights on and fans, that made the light across the table almost like a strobe light. We stopped by for some brunch and even though it was busy, we were seated pretty quickly. Our waitress was pretty nice, obviously busy but nice none the same. The place is clean and a bit older - or the furniture is as there were tears in the seats but they were still comfortable. With a dessert display case, this place definitely has a classic local diner vibe to it. We ordered: - Patty Melt: Rye bread with grilled onion, American & Swiss cheese and a 6 oz patty cooked medium well. Served with Fries or Potato Salad $7.79 This was the most classic way to serve a Patty Melt in my opinion. The bread was fresh, the patty cooked perfect and lots of melted cheese. Every bite of this was heaven. I loved it. The french fries I chose for my side were ok, but needed to have been fried a bit longer for that crispy effect which I think they were going for with that coating on them. The husband ordered: - Redneck Benedict: A Buttermilk Biscuit topped with Scrambled Eggs, Patty Sausage & Sausage Gravy. Served with Cafe Potatoes, Grits or Sliced Tomatoes. $11.89 This is a large plate of food. He ordered Cafe Potatoes and from previous reviews I read about this, he ordered them extra crispy which he was glad he did. The gravy was thick and hearty and he enjoyed his meal plenty. Only thing I would have liked to see different is the price which was a bit higher than should have been. Pros: Patty Melt, Biscuits and Gravy Cons: French Fries, cost If there were half stars available for the rating, I would have given a 3.5 but there isn't so 3 stars it is. Food has always been mediocre but we've been customers for the excellent service of specific waitresses. Our favorite server was working but staff would not give us her area. We later found out that she had empty tables and was being intentionally shorted. Our girl Gavin is no longer there which leaves us no reason to return for the mediocre food. Really good down-home, country cooking kind of place. We stopped in here to have a quick breakfast before heading out for a day in Austin, and really enjoyed our experience. It was obvious a lot of the customers were regulars, with the way they were interacting with the staff, which I always enjoy seeing. I got a veggie omelet and my husband got their standard breakfast with eggs, bacon, and pancakes with a side of biscuits and gravy. We stuffed ourselves silly trying to get it all down, lol. Jeez where to begin? Well if you are the Home Cooking type meal person, then 1431 Cafe is your place and will not disappoint! You are served piping hot food, freshly prepared to order, by friendly staff with great service. Their menu has something for everyone and the portions are huge too. My first time visiting was due to a cousin who was adamant about us trying 1431... so we did and We were impressed from the start. Looking around at different tables and their choices, it made it difficult for us to make a choice for ourselves! From omelets to crème brûlée french toast to chicken fried steak and homemade biscuits and gravy, it's seriously unbelievably good. I am now pleading any of those who are reading my review, to give them a chance to change your life. Oh and they have adult beverages also... kid friendly, get there early it fills up quickly and there will be a a wait! read more

Way back when they first opened, we went here for dinner. It was not an enjoyable experience so I have avoided this place even after they changed owners. Reading their reviews, it appears their breakfast gets more stars. This Sunday I was wanting more for my first meal than a donut. Not much to choose from unless you want to travel and IHOP had a line out the door. I drive across the street to see if 1431 had a line. It didn't so I stayed. Seated quickly in a booth without asking for it (Yeah!). Within minutes my waitress, Tasha, asks what I'd like to drink. Coffee. She brings back my coffee and a water. So I order the 1431 Café special (2 Pancakes/eggs/bacon and a juice). Talk about a quick serve, I hadn't even finished my coffee and my plate was in front of me. Bacon was crispy and so good. The eggs were not dry but were cooked a slight amount more than I would have like. The pancakes were big. Pancakes are my addiction so they better be good. These could have been except they lump one scoop of butter on hot food so most of it melted in the center of the top cake. I tried to spread the rest around on both pancakes but was unsuccessful. The syrup is not served in a bottle or pitcher. They give you about an ounce in a tiny plastic cup. Again trying to cover both cakes was mission impossible. This lead to virtually dry pancakes. Half of the pancakes were left on my plate due to this factor. Pricing was reasonable and service was great. I will give them another try for the Crème Brulee French toast. read more

Awful. Highly don't recommend. The service was trash. They only gave you one menu per table, or maybe that's just how they treated our table. It took 30 minutes to finally take our order and by then I decided I didn't want to place the order if it takes them that long to seat and get service imagine how long it would've taken to actually get the food ‍ I should've trusted the ratings and reviews on here. The food looked like it could've been good, but the service definitely makes the restaurant look bad. In response to the owners comment* I didn't have an issue with paper menus, I completely understand that the pandemic makes running businuesses hard for especially the dinning industry. I tip very generously and also dont mind an upcharge when charged in resturants because of this. Gatta keep things running somehow. But you referenced simply asking for more, I asked about it and was denied, nor was my party offered if we wanted *possibly* an extra. I reffered to yelp for the menu. I understand that you want to save the cost of printing hundreds of unnecessary paper but are you also saving costs by only wiping down half a table? What a disappointment! I have eaten breakfast many times at the 1431 Cafe and I always order the same thing which is always good: one blueberry pancake, one link sausage and coffee. The pancake was stuck to the plate and was mushy and tasteless, the sausage was fine, just not hot, the coffee was old. My friend who was with me ordered an omelet, a biscuit, and coffee. Same disappointment: no cheese on the omelet, a cold biscuit and old coffee. We told the server why we weren't happy with our meals because she asked us. She told us the standard reason the meal sucked: new chef in the kitchen. The chef/manager came out to ask us why we were unhappy - we told her what we told the server. Same excuse, new chef, just apologies. No free meal. I paid $25.00 for the meal. It will be quite awhile before we return to 1431 Cafe. read more

Initially being really excited to try this place because it's been on my list of restaurants to try for months. I don't really understand why it's gotten as good of ratings as it has with the experience that I had. My group of 7 was told that the wait was going to be "20-30 minutes" this past Sunday. I understand that it is a very busy day for everyone as people and big groups want to go to brunch. But after an hour and fifteen minutes passed, my husband went inside to check on the wait. Supposedly they were about to go outside to tell us our table was ready. Upon sitting down, we were greeted (at a very timely manner, I'll say that much) by Ellie. Almost immediately, the entire group felt an extremely awkward tension with her. She was extremely short, didn't take the time to explain the menu when we had questions, gave us one worded responses, was really rude to my young fifteen year old nephew and said to "speak up", and at one point she literally threw down the straws she forgot to bring for our drinks. About fifteen minutes before our table was finished we could tell her attitude changed. I'm not too sure what was wrong in the first place, but if you work in customer service (let alone a place where you work for tips) there needs to be an understanding of treating people as you would want to be treated. The food was mediocre, to put it simple. We were really exited to try the chicken fried bacon but there was just absolutely no taste. I'm not normally one to have experiences such as this one so that was honestly the sole purpose of this Yelp review. I hope others have better experiences as I clearly did not. read more

We have had many a good meal at the 1431 Cafe in the past but today was a really off day, both our meals were less than what we expected. We went to the 1431 Cafe Feb 12 around 12:30 and the place was almost full, so we expected the food to be hot and fresh. Miranda took our order of a Corned Beef Benedict and a Fried Cod sandwich. I have never had the Corned Beef Benedict at the 1431 Cafe before and will not have it again. The service was the usual good service, the meal arrived quickly, it was hot but that is all I can say good about it. The Corned Beef was the strangest flavor and color of Corned Beef I have ever seen. The taste matched the color, very strange taste. If someone gave me it without knowing what it was supposed to be, I would not necessary call it meat. I first tried it at the edges to see how it tasted plain, bad start that got worse the more I tried it. Whatever it was, it was overcooked, lacked normal flavor, and extremely dry. There were sections of ground "Beef" that were just uneatable because they were ground but in lumps that I could not chew. The eggs were OK, but with the other flavor I could not even enjoy them. After a few bites I gave up on the meal and ate the crispy(?) potatoes. The second meal was a Fried Cod sandwich, which the waitress warned us was going to be too big on the bun to eat as a sandwich, she was correct, it was very tall. Again the Fried Cod was very over cooked, dry and tasteless, we have had better at a local drive thru. It will be a while before we go back, but we will go back and see if this was just an off day or a trend. The staff are first rate, very nice, attentive and quick. When the waitress removed our plates at the end of the meal she did not ask how the meal was, maybe she could tell as both our plates had lots left on the plate and we did not request a "doggie" bag to go. With the waitress was using electronic order entry but I would not have expect the waitress to take my credit card and have to take it to the front desk. On previous occasions this has happened but I figured by now they would have this automated at the table. read more

However for the second visit in a row the hostess and manager keep seating partial parties and walk-ins not on the list well ahead of us and other customers when their sign specifically says WAIT TO BE SEATED THIS INCLUDES THE BAR. The food is good, but the attitude of the Manager is HORRIBLE. They are also rather rude to the older woman making the customer seating list, they show her very little respect. Tracy who works very hard and serves the bar with the utmost courtesy and concern is the best thing the place has going for it. The Manager there this morning needs to be fired!!! I told him I wanted the owners number and he refused to provide it after saying he would. He doesn't want the complaint obviously. Guess what, you forgot about FACEBOOK and YELP. He lost 5 customers in 2 parties this morning inn a matter of minutes due to his rude behaviour, poor attitude and breaking their own posted seating policies. He tried to blame it on the customer (us) when it is their posted policy not to seat partials or at the bar without being on the list. When I told him he was in the wrong line of work and doesnt belong in the hospitality industry his retort was "so find a different restaurant" We did... I Hop is right across the street. This is NOT the way to treat customers or rumba privately owned business with so much competition nearby. Manager is extremely rude!!!! I calmly asked her a question and she yelled at me in the middle of the crowded restaurant in front of everyone because I was asking her to clarify a seating area!!! I'm never going back ! Your response is convenient! I only tried to add a chair to an existing table that was actually farther away from people than the other 2 chairs all while 10 people are elbow to elbow at the bar! So much for your adherence to social distancing! For you to yell at the top of your lungs at me in front of a crowded restaurant shows how unprofessional you are!! I'll never be back !
