we have been ordering from Empire East for 16 years, it was the best , I have to say our last orders in 2025 is not the same. And today's order January 2026 is the same, not good. The rids are overcooked or a least a day old, the egg rolls are not fresh, now they are oily and the inside like mashed vegetables. Their prices have gone up since the last time I visited the East coast and I was surprised to pay $22 for the boneless ribs but they're pretty darn delicious. We had a take-out meal with friends and everyone enjoyed the dishes selected. Their pork fried rice is very good and the beef and snow pea is surprising tender! I placed the order over the phone with no difficulty and it was ready when they said it would be. The gentleman over the phone was polite and apologetic notifying me that they didn't accept cards over the phone so you can only pay when you pick up. It was a minor inconvenience. One of my to go places on the island. When working in Staten Island, there's really not much authentic Chinese cuisine around. There's definitely a lot of American Chinese but empire east gives me the option to have a nice beef noodle (hor fun) soup or wonton noodle soup with gigantic shrimp inside. It's ran by asian and they don't skimp out on the ingredients. Definitely not your local Brooklyn or queens price but it's fairly priced compared to its competitors on the island. My only complaint is that it's too oily and sometimes can leave your mouth very dry after eating it. The menu was a bit overwhelming that I kept going back and forth on what I want. It was a bit strange that a chinese restursnt had thai and vietbamese food. I was craving thai food but I was too skeptical to order any. I came in early dinner time but they had lots of to go orders but I didn't have to wait long for my food. I got the pork fried rice and egg roll combo with spicy szechuan tofu meat sauce. When I got home and saw the egg roll, I was disappointed because of the skin. I thought it was going to be a bad Americanized egg roll. It was but this was the better ones I've had. I think it had minced bbq pork with cabbage. The tofu dish was delicious. The peas were a bit undercooked though. The fried rice and tofu had the legit smoked wok taste as you should for Chinese dishes. The Togo container was overfilled. Horrible food. Horrible service. They messed up my order. When I called to get the item they messed up refunded they were rude and nasty. Told me to leave the messed up food outside so they can pick it up (which is gross. Probably were planning to reuse it ..) and made me send them a picture of it outside before they issued my refund. Empire East on Hyland Blvd used to be a great and my favorite Chinese Restaurant. In the last couple of years they have reduced the high quality of their food.The spare rubs were once the biggest, juiciest,,delicious anywhere. I ordered recently and the ribs were no better then lesser priced Chinese takeout. The fried rice which also had big pieces of pork now not only are the pieces small but there was hardly any pork compared to their former portions. I'm now in search of a Chinese Restaurant with more quality and consistent food. They by the way though the quality has gone down the price is still premium. Had to order through an app named Zuppo to place an online order. When I called about my order being incomplete and incorrect a man named Chow claiming to be owner took over the phone call and became very defensive. He was not accommodating and never made an attempt to fix the problem. He only kept saying he would give me a refund. He also told me numerous times early in the conversation to order my food elsewhere. I am waiting for the driver to come back with the $35.00 in cash he was paid and I will gladly return the entire meal and as promised by Chow who ended with saying "he is telling me 'to the ground' not to come in to his store". I tried this take-out restaurant for the first time and I really wanted it to be good. It was very busy with customers picking up orders. There were 18 chefs cranking out orders. So I ordered and took it home. - Beef pepper steak. The beef was tender (as I requested) but it was slimy from the disgusting oily brown sauce that tasted and felt awful. - Sweet and sour chicken? Little deep fried nuggets came in small box with nothing else. The sauce was in a separate container separate for ME to put together! The deep fried chicken nuggets were cooked in old oil and you could taste it and smell it. How can people eat this stuff? How old is that oil cooking away at high temps in the deep fryer? All those free radicals! Portions were much smaller than at other take-out restaurants. I was so disappointed. I really thought I'd found a new place to go. I will never go there again. This place and its sister location is AMAZING! As far as Americanized Chinese takeout it's as good as it's going to get on Staten Island but let's not forget that this isn't your traditional Chinese restaurant you'd expect to find in Chinatown. Let me explain how this place works for all those interested. The portions in this place seem to be a bit larger than other take outs so the prices will be a bit higher but the quality and the taste are unmatched. That's what many reviewers on here seem to complain about. It isn't the taste they cry and moan about but it's the prices they pay for a family style portion that gets them. Go to the hood if you want cheap food. End of rant. Onto the food. The quality could easily be seen in this place. The vegetables are vibrant and always seem fresh along with everything else. They have menu items here you simply won't find anywhere else. Expect to find Chinese, Thai, and Japanese here. Most importantly the place is SPOTLESS! You could literally eat of the floor. If you live anywhere near New Dorp/Oakwood, order from Empire East. They are speedygonzalez fast (Is that politically correct nowadays?) and because they're soooo popular, the food is always fresh. I lurve the fact that the chinese restaurant has thai options on the menu (like mango shrimp, chicken satays, pheonix and dragon, thai cashew chicken, etc) because I think that's pretty unique. Let me tell you that I've never had dim sum this BIG before. They're like giant... and I think very delicious. You get four and will be able to save at least half and eat it later or the next day for leftovers. When I go home to Staten Island, I always want to order Empire East... so if you live there, you lucky ducks - not pekinged - take advantage once a week =) read more

And, their delivery service is impeccable. If you want hot sauce, ask for it! They will NOT send hot sauce if you don't ask! They don't have Yi-Pin hot sauce packets. I think they make their own hot sauce. Either that or they package little cups from a big jug. Regardless, its good hot sauce, and thinner consistency than Yi-Pin. Much more delicious too. read more

I ordered a bunch of dishes yesterday for a small party at home (large fried rice (2), large low mein (2), mei fun, papaya salad and scallion pancake). The damage came out to be about $73. When I asked for an extra dressing, the first lady was about to give it to me, however a second older lady spoke in Mandarin told her I should get charged $.50 cent. I wasn't a happy camper since they had already made a killing profit on me already but I decided to pay. What made me so fumed and disgusted was when they taxed me on the $.50 cent. I asked do they know how to run a business? Another skinny older lady replied "this is the boss instruction". I ask you boss, please train your staff to treat your customer with politeness. For the amount of my order, was it necessary to charge me the extra $.55 cents for the salad dressing? I understand you are running a business, but is this a business model you think will make you more money in the long term? You will lose my future business for sure and I will spread my wings to inform my family, friends and the people in my community that you should change your business model to treat your customers with more respect. Like another reviewer said, there are a bunch of other good Chinese restaurants in SI. For one, the lady boss at China Buffet is very friendly and she knows how to run her business. The food there in my opinion is overall better and the staff there are very friendly. This will make a good dinning experience every time. read more
