Practically in my backyard growing up was the 99 restaurant, a fun family dining eatery that a few…read moreyears ago was replaced by West Village Tavern. The interior is still very similar as far as the layout, but obviously a whole new coat of paint and decor instead. It almost reminds me a bit of a seafaring restaurant, but still not that different from how the 99 was with the size, walls, booths, hallways, etc. But there are other 99s and this new restaurant is pretty great overall, especially for a wonderfully flavorful, hearty burger and fries. I also had some of a companion's order, this interesting sesame chicken dish with seaweed salad and a half avocado filled with sauce, which was different and I'm not really sure why it was there, much as I like avocado. The chicken tasted great and was the highlight of that dish. The menu is nice and varied, so I'd be curious to try some of their other dishes, like the pizza. The service is great even when it's busy, and it's a pretty comfortable atmosphere.

For the kiddo, we got the steak tips, which came with fries and broccoli. I got the chicken Cesar salad with pretzel and beer cheese. The staff were fantastic, very attentive and accommodating. The room was nice and it was just fun to be in a historic place. Highly recommend. If you end up with a burger, which was fantastic, sub the sweet potato fries. The bowl of clam chowder was large and filling. The chicken pot pie was delicious...would have preferred a tad bit thicker. The Indian pudding was a great nostalgic dessert to have -- it tasted like a thick pumpkin pie, but with a bit of a chai type spice and topped with delicious vanilla ice cream. The root beer and draft beers were great!

Started off with an order of the crab cakes which were delicious. I also enjoyed the coleslaw it came with. Honestly next time I might order these as my entree with a salad or something because I liked them that much. For my entree I ordered the Lobster Roll. I ordered them with sweet potato fries which were good. The lobster roll was alright but I've had better elsewhere. I did really like the fries though. Ended with an Indian pudding which was good but not my favorite dessert ever. Heard a bunch of surrounding tables ordering it so I wanted to try it. They bring you cornbread and rolls in the beginning which I thought was nice as well. Our waitress did a good job despite how many tables she had to juggle, so props to her. Pricey dinner but overall I think it was worth it. I would try another entree next time however it was good. I like the charm this place has inside and I hope they keep it this original for years to come.
