Quality sound engineering. Perfect ambiance & great service. Free parking. Kinda got a tent city going on around the area but the locals keep to themselves, never had an issue or saw anything crazy. Been coming to this venue more often than not probably my 8th time because the shows get placed here. And all the band have been personal favorites of mine since I was a kid. I make an hour and a half drive to get to the venue but it's no complaint. I will be back with no hesitation. I don't drink but the bar tenders do provide water during the shows which is really kind of them. The bathrooms aren't too bad, I've used it probably a couple times nothing out of the ordinary. Overall place is tight. Shout out to Raymond and the staff for taking care of business!!!

I want to give a huge thanks to security guard named Ray! I lost my phone during a show and he went above and beyond to find it and he did! It just made my night so much better how caring he was even if I didn't find it. Definitely will be returning to this venue again. Thank you so much again Ray! We heart you!

    Small but fun setting :)

    |[ s u c c i n c t ]| 3.5 stars rounded up because the venue itself is super small but decent and clean! We came for a smaller event (Anime Massive - we came for Hyper Potions), so there was plenty dancing space and you can see everything and everyone in the entire space lol. Bathroom wall graffiti is p cool, good photo op. Sounds and visuals were fun for dancing and although the crowd was small, it was a great vibe. |[ o v e r a l l ]| No food, bar at back. No issues with security. My only reservations are that this is in skid row and in between underpasses lol. Ngl I was p frightened and never knew this place existed, but on this Friday night and prob due to being a low key event, it was peaceful. I'd be open to coming here but only if I really wanna see the artist.

Came here to see Satin Jackets and I must say I do like the venue. It's very intimate, not very crowded and the sound is good! It has a big outdoor smoking area so if you wanted fresh air you can get some even if there's a bunch of smokers outside. It does have a long list of cons though: 1. The neighborhood is completely shit, sketchy AF all around it. Its in the grimy warehouse district, there's tons of RV's and burned out RV's on the streets leading to the venue. I would not recommend driving and parking your car in this area. 2. The drinks are very expensive and they're small roughly $18-20 for like a makers and coke and you're getting a very tiny cup (it's a stiff drink but theres like no chaser also theres not much liquid so you'll go through these quickly, you cant slowly sip on it cause its tiny. 3. $7 dollar bottles of crystal geyser water (lol wtf? at least have something slightly fancier if you're gonna charge $7 4. The mens bathroom has like zero privacy, there's even a toilet thats right out in the open with 3 other urinals LOL 5. Cashless BAR...... but they do have an ATM in the lobby LOL

What a fun night! Great performance! We came to watch Junoflo, Justin Park, and G2. *Junoflo was the best! I like his style and performance so much, very distinct and unique, great music. He had none stop rapping and interacting with the audience for maybe 40 mins straight, really passing his energy and smile to everyone. He was also the first Korean rapper to perform in NBA halftime. Awww! *G2's signature raspy voice is so cool! Pass his freestyle spirit to every corner of the room. It was so pumping. *Justin sang his signature song "All along" and got the whole dancing routine going on! The bar offer drinks and snacks. It has many tables , very convenient for people who want to chill while enjoying the show. Cons: The show supposed to start at 7 pm but it got delayed to 8 pm. I heard was the sounds system needs to be checked and when Justin perform the sound went wrong again sadly. So couldn't hear him as clear as another singers. I would appreciate it if the studio could get everything on the line before the show starting.

Hey everyone I'm super nervous of parking is there parking anywhere around there is it actually as bad as you guys are saying I don't mind if I have to walk but like someone help me out I'm stressed I don't wanna Uber or park in the garage?

The area is rough but I've never had any issue with parking my car there and I've been there many times over the years. You might have trouble finding parking because the area gets crowded. Just don't leave any purses, backpacks, or anything… Read more

Are bags/purses/sling bags allowed? Is there an enforced bag policy before entering the venue?

bags are allowed but they don't check them well

Where would it be best to park? Even if it's a little further away. I can just Uber to the venue. I just dont want my car stolen.

It's best to Uber if you're close, but prime parking is across the street from security at the front door. Even then, there's still a risk of theft parking anywhere in LA.

    What's their outside food/beverages policy?

You can't bring food and drinks into a venue

If i bring a Picture of my ID instead of the physical copy, will it be accepted?

That's even if they bother asking for it. The last time I went I don't remember showing the security at check in my C19 vaccine card.

Anyone know if theyre checking for proof of vaccination tonight?

Yes, they currently require proof of vaccination or negative test within 72 hours for all events at 1720.

How difficult is it to get a ride (Uber/Lyft) at the end of the night? Looking to come for a show, but don't want to be fighting everyone for one ride out of the area late into the night

Been here numerous times and getting Lyfts/Ubers is really not an issue! We've waited maybe 15 mins max for one at the end of the night.

Do they require proof of vaccine or negative COVID test for entrance to the venue?

Yes, they do at the moment.

    What is capacity?

    700. But it depends on the night and event.

    Is there a coat check?

No, not during heavy metal shows. But who knows they might depending on the event

If I am waiting for a free entry concert should I get there super early?

I wouldn't go too early maybe a half and hour to an hour before the show starts. If you get there too early just tailgate if you like drinking because the alcohol is expensive at this venue.

What's the walk from the metro like? Looks fairly short, but could be bad, I guess. Is it full on Shanty Town between the stop and the club?

I walked the other night back and forth hardly any one is out. The club goers park along the street that you head over to the metro stop. When I got off two police officers were hanging out. No problems at all. I even rode bus once and I had no… Read more

Willcall: is it an actual ticket or just a list?

Just a list. You present your ID at the door.

What is the policy here like can I bring a small bag?

Yes, I've seen people with small backpacks and definitely purses!

    How much is valet parking?

There is no valet parking. There is street parking though.

    Is this spot 420 friendly?

Yeah I went to a heavy metal concert and it was everywhere

Do they serve sparkling wine or champagne at the bar?

    Yes

How much is parking? I heard people get their car broken into there..

No paid parking near the venue, street parking is in a sketchy area. Best to Lyft or take public transit.

Is this a 21 and over venue?

most shows are 18+ or all ages. just depends on the show though

Not only was this place fairly easy to find but I also really like to see that people attending the show were granted free parking! Just one block away there was a corner lot with workers directing people to parking spots. A big thank you to the venue for making this happen as it definitely saves you the headache of having to find a parking spot. Plus it felt really safe to be able to park somewhere where there is a lot of light and people. After entering the venue, I noticed it was not very big but there was still a really good crowd there. The show sold out and there was still a lot of room in there, which I really liked. Nothing is worse than having to be inside a venue where everyone is crammed in there like sardines. They also have a big bar as you enter the second floor where they do the shows. The stage was also very up and close to the audience. There is pretty much nothing separating the performers from the people watching which I also enjoyed because it allows us to get a better view of the stage and performers. Additionally, the sound was also very good and I could hear everything clearly, from the piano to the backup vocals. Not bad at all ! Also, I'm happy the first show I got to see here was Mikel Erentxun. He played an amazing show and he really shows how he loves what he is doing and takes great pride in his music and work. I hope to come back here soon and see more artists play.

When I saw POPPY perform here years ago right after COVID, it was my first concert here and this place is dope because you're literally so damn close to the artist(s) you watch because the stage isn't too high. The acoustics, bass and all around sound here is NICE for a small, intimate venue. ALL of the workers I've met/interacted with were all so damn nice and helpful as much as they can. I was blessed to even hang out at their Green Room for a gig and it's just so damn cool to know that Dave Chappelle and others have been inside the same room before and after shows!

Walking into the venue (which must be entered from a remote back alley) people just outside said to us "you're walking into a WEIRD vibe". We thought that meant "punk", and we weren't completely wrong- but we were promptly informed the lead singer of the first band had dislocated her knee and torn her ACL on the stage- it is not known whether the stage caused this but most said the singer was not doing anything crazy in terms of movement. The ambulance was called, and the people in charge were managing the situation to the absolute best of their ability but that poor lead singer was on stage incapacitated with people all around her giving her conflicting advice. This poor thing. They moved all the bands down to the floor level after the first band in order to mitigate the situation. There were some massive sound quality issues, the lights stayed on for the entirety our out-of-town friends set, which they still played like champions- the closing band even had the guys in charge of wandering on the stages behind them and even onto the stage with them, mid-set- (to fix issues I'm sure). I just felt so bad for everyone involved: the injured band, the fans who paid and had to wait a long time through delays, the bands that played after the incident (the band we saw had the lights on the entire set too), and the crew running the show who were clearly just doing their best given the circumstances. I will say it was a calm intimate venue when it all went down- everyone was trying to help, just a crazy first impression of The Smell for us.

It was all a foreign concept to me. Booking three or four or five acts in one night, charging you admission only once based on which act you came in for and most of the time if you came to the first you could stay through the 5th, or as most did, they came to see who they intended to see and maybe saw some of the act that was after and then went out to Hollywood to get some eats with their friends. Hotel Cafe is going away in 2026, but it is not gone, they will just be moving from their iconic Hollywood location, that small room that barely held 150, a small stage in the corner, a few low tables and a bar in the back to a new location in Los Angeles. It is the place where the singer-songwriter movement of the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s hard launched a revival. It's like what the Troubadour was to the Laurel Canyon singers in the 1970s. Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Greg Laswell, Priscilla Ahn, Meiko, Cary Brothers and many others. Adele even played here before her first album released in the US. I saw Sara Bareilles here once and she left everyone in tears after her song and bolted out the back door. I went to the front of the house and her family were blowing out the last of the signed copies her tour posters for only $10 since it was the last show of her tour. I bought a few. I have come here to see a friend like Big Phony sing, and then exit into the back room/lobby and see Hollywood stars entering to see their friend who would be singing next. It's that kind of local spot. The sound was always great and the drinks were well crafted and strong. I recently saw Priscilla Ahn sing here again and it brought back memories of the first time I saw her here, when she only had a 5 track EP CD. When she sang Dream again this year, it felt like everything had come full circle, since that first CD released 20 years ago. I cannot wait to see what the new building looks like, but a huge part of me, like for everyone else that has been here, will miss that little room in the back of the alley, where young dreamers became singers, where singers became stars.

Instead, they kicked ME out for confronting the people myself since apparently staff was too useless to handle it. I had to call the police on my own, but by the time they came the thieves were already gone. What's crazy is I used to work at the friend bar down the street where this was also an issue but management actually did something about it. We confronted someone stealing phones, police were called, and they ended up finding 13 stolen phones on them. So this excuse of "there's nothing we can do" is complete BS. The manager also claimed there were "no cameras," which is insane for a bar in LA. Also I am 30 but the bouncer let me in with NO ID JUST saying...Security is careless, management is incompetent, and this place clearly does not care if customers get robbed inside their venue. It was intimate and you can see the performer even if you're in the back. We were on the right side towards the front, a few rows back. I appreciated that the mic level wasn't too loud even though we sat in front of the speaker; sometimes at comedy events it feels like the mic is SO LOUD that I have to wear earplugs. At this venue, the noise level was perfect.
