The place itself is fine. I have been to two events here - DJ dark wave night and a metal show. Both were fantastic but man the location is the actual armpit of L.A....this is THEE scary skid row that even the cops don't come around to. Somehow (thankfully) me & friends didn't get our cars broken into. But if you dare park around there you might be stepping over people or human or both! I go to this venue quite often and honestly? I really anticipate something unsafe going down there at some point -- because they don't seem to have any form of crisis management, crowd control, security, or organization. they get by because of the smaller events they hold - but anything slightly bigger? this place is a powder keg of safety concerns waiting to blow. parking is awful and also unsafe; I've seen attendees get their windows shattered. also no security there either, in case you were wondering. I honestly have never seen anyone at work there besides the bartenders... I'd recommend staying away from this place unless your FAVORITE act is playing there. otherwise - not worth the uneasiness and risking the safety issues. read more

Great venue, great security service and amazing bar tenders. Glad I was able to make it out to wonderful night of dark wave music and support a much needed cause. The venue is spacious, 2 full bars, food was delicious and bathrooms were clean! Only 4 stars because parking is super sketchy around the area, you have to park around the corner then walk to the venue and the streets are poorly lit. This review is a couple months late, but Shoutout to Ray (head of security) . I had an emergency to attend to & had to leave the venue early during an event. I then realized I wasn't sure where I had parked my car & was nervously trying to figure it out while outside. Ray called me in to stand by the doorway to ensure my safety while I figured out my life. This is a true warehouse experience... it's literally a large blacked out warehouse for events. Street parking was pretty easy to find but it's also in a sketchy part of downtown Los Angeles. There's also a good amount of litter all over the front of the business. They have two long bars that are actually really nice. The staff was cool and they had a solid selection of alcohol. Although the thing that stood out to me was that the entire floor was wet. Not just near the bar or the bathroom but everywhere. It seemed like a health hazard and made it hard to dance. Overall we had a good time. The artist we came to see always kills it. Id come back if they have good artists here, but this venue wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Great venue. Good lighting. Ron, head of security, absolutely rocks! He took very good care of me and my partner during a concert there. Personal service like this is rare and deserves to be commended. All the staff were friendly. We had a great time and will be back! The only negative is the neighborhood, which they cannot control. Lyft or Uber are your best bet if you are coming here. If you do drive, make sure to take any valuables out of your car before coming. But don't let this stop you. The place is great. read more

My phone and wallet was stolen last Friday right out of my purse. Other people's belongings were also stolen and security notified me that this has been happening every weekend. Came to see wavedash last night and had an unexpected medical emergency. The staff on hand were all incredibly kind and helped me greatly. Special shout-out to Ray (head of security) and Cass (?) (the very pretty girl working the merch counter) for taking care of me and making sure I was okay! As for the venue itself - The music was insanely loud from all corners of the building (a perk to me, personally) and despite being crowded, there was always enough space to move around. I went to 1720 for the first time ever to support my PCW Ultra sis Nita Strauss (who started her very first tour on her own, without rock legend Alice Cooper!!) and her awesome boyfriend Josh last night. Prior to last night's event... I kept hearing about how Bar Wrestling would have kick ass shows at this place. The reviews on 1720 are right about how it's super sketchy around the neighborhood.....but this isn't a review on just the neighborhood. Now, if there wasn't any security outside checking on all the cars, then it would probably have made me change the Yelp stars rating drastically!!! OUTSIDE: Yes, outside it's like Homeless Central. EXTREMELY sketchy!!! It looks like a typical drop-off point where Orange County would dump their city's bums at. It looks like the sewer town where they cooked rat burgers at in the movie Demolition Man. ENTRANCE/INSIDE: 1720's security were super chill, along with their amazing staff, who did a great job checking stuff for me. Inside, it's honestly really really nice looking from the stage area, to the two different bar areas. The section where you get your food is literally like a hole in the wall!!! As for the food.... damn.... I had their fried chicken sliders because the "waiter" said they were really good and yes, they were! The stage is small, but it's awesomely intimate with great quality sound and equipment. It's not smelly, everything very clean and well organized inside. If this place was in a decent to way better area, then I would definitely give it a flawless 5 stars. read more

Recently went to 1720 for my first time and this is how it went. There's a lot of mixed reviews about parking your car in the area, However for me and my girlfriend we felt more worry free parking at a overnight parking garage in little Tokyo. After that we just ubered to and from the venue, which is about 12 mins away. I also highly recommend the app SpotHero, it helps you look for parking and filter out options such as parking lot or garage, and etc. you can even book your parking time on the app and pay in advanced and get a QR code as a ticket that activates when you come/go. PROS It's a chill spot, definitely sets the mood right with the ambiance of the place when you walk in. Stage is pretty close from a lot of angles of the building so you can actually see artists performing pretty well. saw a lot of people hitting their vapes inside the venue so either there's no rule against it or they just don't gaf. There's 2 bars on each end of the venue if your into that. They have a merch stand for the artists who perform to sell their music or clothing. CON Like most of the other reviews, sketch a$$ area. Definitely don't want to get there too early because you will literally be standing outside in the middle skid row, since they don't open there doors until the hour the event is supposed to start at. (even tho on Google it says they open at 10am). If it's a small band I recommend pulling up at least 45 mins early so you can atleast be waiting with people. read more

Normally I don't feel safe parking in downtown and walking around the venue, but Ray(the head of security) made my experience so positive. He noticed I had parked further away and told me a closer spot to park at. At the end of the night, Ray walked me to my car and ensured I got there safely with no issues. Now the person scanning the tickets took forever. And it was only one person and he was literally using his phone. Which I found so odd. The inside was nice, music sounded great. Overall I absolutely love this venue. The location is the only reason it's not 5 stars (see below). As a metalhead this is the best place to see your favorite bands in an intimate venue. The place is clean, well run, and safe (inside). Folks look out for each other and I've never had a bad experience here. RAY+TEAM: I'm writing the review because of my last concert: I had knee surgery last month but could not miss seeing one of my favorite bands for the first time. I wore my brace and brought crutches to lean on as I knew it was standing only. I was having stress dreams about a mosh pit domino effect causing me to stumble and undo all my healing. When they opened the doors, the head of security, Ray, saw me and immediately jumped into ADA mode. He went and talked to the team, they got us chairs (for me and my partner) and let us sit in a safe, secure space that still had a great view and I felt absolutely safe. I could still stand when I wanted and move around in a very secure space. Ray introduced us to his team and made sure we were taken care of. Leaving the venue he checked in with us as well. DRINKS: The drinks are a little pricey -- there was no food but that's fine for the types of concerts. Their website shows a kitchen on the layout so it is a little misleading, but no problem. Honestly the drink prices don't affect my rating as I expect to pay premium for drinks esp when the ticket prices are cheaper (~$40 for a beer+shot and a mixed well drink). Honestly their VIP table package for 6 people will probably break even if not save money if you've got friends to go with. LOCATION: it is in a very unsafe part of town. Get a taxi there, and don't even dream of parking your car. I wouldn't want to leave my car, let alone walk even a block after leaving the venue. The taxi+a few drinks+ticket means you'll likely spend $200-300 on a worry-free night out. Leaving the venue is generally safe, despite the area, just because there's a lot of folks all waiting for rides and looking out for each other, and the security is out there keeping an eye. Overall, great spot for metal fans. Some of my most favorite gigs have been here. Just expect to spend a lot of money on drinks and taxi on top of ticket. The place is safe and clean inside (for a music venue) and all the folks who work there are great. read more

Been to this venue a number of times and have always enjoyed the shows there. Drinks are expensive and sometimes they overcrowd the joint a bit, but I love the variety of shows they have and it's a cool, intimate spot. Writing this particular review to thank Alex the bartender, though. My wife and I were there for a show last week and the crowd/heat started to get to her, so we retreated to the bar, where Alex noticed she was looking faint and proactively made her an icepack. Later, after he had finished his shift, he noticed from across the bar that we both looked like we could use some water and had the working bartenders pour us a large cup of ice water. Super thoughtful and much appreciated, Alex! Always happy to see a show I'm interested in held here (which has happened a bunch of times now), despite the iffy neighborhood and the distance from my place. read more

As a girl, I feel like I have to make this review in due diligence to others regarding 1720. There's nothing wrong with the actual venue itself, the acoustics are actually really good for such a small space, and the bartenders are extremely lovely and efficient. My gripe is the location- not only is it located by the exit right before the I-10 closure, but it's actually only TWO(?!) blocks away from the actual site of the fire. The surrounding area is horrible, with lots of homeless encampments, abandoned/empty warehouses, and dirty and largely empty streets. I didn't feel safe at all getting there/waiting in line, especially with homeless individuals directly approaching the front of the club and setting fires on the street leading to the club. I get the appeal of a warehouse turned club/venue, but I really hope that the club does more to ensure the safety of their patrons inside/around the venue. read more

Wow. This was my first time at 1720 (we were there for the Ott show) and WOW. This is a great venue from top to bottom. The space allows for all kinds of varied activities, there are multiple bars, and there's a smoking patio where you can chat with the fun and friendly crowd. The staff are friendly too, and the whole place just has a welcoming feel. 1720 wants you to have fun and feel comfortable! I bet they wouldn't even be mad if you put a sticker on one of the bathroom stalls. A special shout-out goes to Ray, the head of security. I have a disability, and when I asked for an accommodation, Ray was attentive and responsive to my needs. He really made me feel okay about needing assistance, and he was so friendly on top of it all. I don't think Ray just has a guard card--it's more like he has a guardian angel card. 1720: Great music, great venue, great staff, great crowd. Go and have fun! read more

Security guard clearing the floor (11/3) was very dense and impatient. He separated me from my friends, and tried to herd me out. They were next to the stage exchanging numbers with some guy and taking forever. I told him to go grab friends and kick them out too, because I wanted to leave! He refused to turn around and kick my friends out after the show. So clearly he did a shitty job of clearing the floor. Do better 1720. Also this venue is located on a street of filled with trash. Never had any issues parking at this venue before, & I've parked here countless times. I've even had to leave my car overnight before. At last nights show on 7/4/2022, a bunch of cars got broken into, including mine. I found this out through making posts on Twitter. Luckily nothing was stolen (my car is usually empty, but there were a few things in it- nothing highly valuable, but maybe could have been by someone else's definition). Some people said their windows were busted but nothing was stolen. My car's been broken into more times in my own driveway in a better neighborhood- regardless of it was empty or not. My car was parked right around the corner from the venue. Other cars of venue patrons in my area specifically had shit in their car & did not get broken into. The venue has Security Patrol car for every show, let me tell you- they aren't doing enough to patrol the area. Crime rates are higher on holidays, they should have had extra security patrolling the area. Not sure if I would ever go to this venue again. I've always felt safe over there/like my car was safe. I've never had any issues with the people living on the surrounding streets. They keep to themselves. One of them was very nice & started asking around the community if anyone saw anything (but it was late at night so most of them were asleep). Was probably some person on a bike moving swiftly. read more

PARK AND PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK. I came here for a secret show for Carnage's mini "Battered, Bruised, and Bloody" tour which was one of five free concerts in the US. I am quite familiar with warehouse parties always being in sketchy areas but when I mean sketchy, I mean you-better-park-your-car-two-miles-away kind of sketchy. * LOCATION * When we got to the venue, the only reason why we knew we got to the right place was because there was such a long line of people waiting around the block. 1720 is located in Downtown LA near a homeless camp that's littered with shady people all throughout. * PARKING * Good ol' LA street parking! There's no lot or garage nearby so you'll have to park on the street. I do NOT recommend parking near the venue itself because of the people in the area. I decided to park mine a little ways away off of Washington and Alameda. Hell, I'd walk a thousand miles if it meant my car didn't get broken into, so beware. * VENUE * The venue itself features two bars on opposite ends of the warehouse and they even offer a Hotspot photo booth which is always a lot of fun. The stage is on the left side of the building with the men and women bathroom area at the very back featuring a communal sink. Sound was decent. I'm already sensitive to loud music so I always have earplugs and can't be an accurate judge but from the blaring bass I felt coursing throughout my body I guess you could say it wasn't terrible! * BAR/ALCOHOL * Incredibly cheap! They give out cups of water for free and the large water bottles and Red Bull's only cost $4 each. I didn't purchase any drinks but considering the cost of the aforementioned, I can only assume their adult bevs are well within anyone's budget. -- Overall, I can only give 3 stars since the location truly turned me off. I would say that it's "just an LA thing" but it isn't my style and really hope that the rest of the area around it continues to grow. (14/100 - 2018) read more

The restrooms inside are clean and there are two bars which is really convenient. Love this place, always a lot of fun. Drinks are fairly priced and the bartenders give you enough to make up for the ice you get everwhere. People who work there and customers are all cool. Great decor and vibes. Lots of fun events and nights. Sound is good, lots of areas to dance and mingle. My fave is Holy Trinity with Smiths, Cure, Depeche playing. went to tame Impala night here. Here was my experience: $15.33 for a drink (pineapple tequila in an 8 oz over iced up) Sketchy sketchy parking. Walking back to my car after the event, two cars that I was parked between had smashed windows. I felt so bad. They need to have a specified parking lot for this venue. It's fully irresponsible not to, especially if they hold bigger artists such as virtual self. Ventilation wise it was a sauna and I felt like I couldn't breathe very often. However if I could breathe and didn't see two cars within the 6 I was parked around get broken into, the inside had potential to be cool. The DJ was awesome, playing banger after banger for the indie folk. Definitely won't be returning. Not worth possibly having my car window shattered. read more
