The food hall itself isn't super big, so after making a full loop we ended up heading outside to 18 Folds, the spot with lanterns hanging out front. At first I thought it was a Vietnamese restaurant, but it turned out to be more of an Asian fusion place with a little bit of everything. It was super busy, so we had to wait a bit for a table. We were group of 5 and ordered: *Spicy Shrimp Wontons $16 *Shu Mai $15 *Shrimp Garlic Noodles $24.5 *Spicy Pork Belly Soup $14 *Ponzu Salmon Roll $15 *Hot Honey Fried Chicken Baos $32 The sushi roll was just okay, and the pork belly soup leaned salty with a broth that tasted almost like a Tom Yum base plus the pork flavor was a little strong. 18 Folds is an Asian Fusion restaurant located in its own building outside on the north side of the Anaheim Packing District. One of the draws of eating here are the colorful lit lanterns in the evening. However, we ended dining here in the late afternoon while it was still light out. The inside of the restaurant was pretty much empty and it was a nice day, so we dined out on the patio. Even in the daytime, the colorful lanterns are cool to look at and there is a park area right next to the restaurant. The patio is wide open and completely in the shade. This was a late lunch/early dinner for us, so we just ordered a few different items off the menu to share. Their small sushi menu only has four different rolls and they were out of two of them, so we just had a California roll which was fine. The only sushi protein available is shrimp or krab so I definitely wouldn't recommend them for sushi. We also had an order of the chicken egg rolls. They had a good crisp on them, and the serving size was generous and very filling. The sweet chili dipping sauce had a good mix of sweetness with a little heat. They tasted fine, but it seemed like they were pre-made and lacked a little freshness. Finally, we tried an order of the spicy shrimp wontons off the dim sum menu. It comes with ten wontons, and the shrimp were good but the wontons were a little mushy. They had a nice heat that slowly creeps up on you after a few seconds. Service started out ok as we were able to place our order within ten minutes, but it then got progressively slower. I think there were only two other occupied tables and our three items took almost 25 minutes to come out. After the food arrived, we didn't see a server again for quite a while. Final rating 3.6 stars. These are the times I wish Yelp let you use half points because this experience was right in between 3 and 4 stars. I was a little skeptical at first but once we got our food I changed my mind! Service is really nice and friendly, and the place itself is pretty nice and very outdoorsy. It's very pleasant. I have been coming to 18 Folds for 4 years, and it used to be consistently good with a dynamic menu of cool fusion dim sum and entrées. I would bring friends for a nice meal with cute ambience and boba cocktails. However, on my most recent visit on Friday night, I noticed the quality was significantly worse than before. The menu had changed significantly, and the only thing that seemed to have remained the same was the boba cocktails, which still tasted fine. The rest of what we ordered (pork soup dumplings, pork & chive Sichuan style dumplings, garlic string beans, and chili garlic wings) was really disappointing. The pork xlb lacked flavour, as if an ingredient were omitted in preparation. Even Trader Joe's frozen pork xlb when reheated have more flavour. The pork and chive Sichuan style dumplings were not spicy at all, and the filling was so bland as if no salt or any other spices were added. The garlic string beans were saturated in garlic chunks, and I had to wipe off most of them. What remained were limp green beans. They would've been more palatable if the amount of garlic were reduced and the dish weren't over-reliant on the garlic chunks. Finally, the chili garlic wings were terrible. The wings were the worst item we ordered. The breading was too thick, not very crispy, and had zero Asian flavour. Even KFC wings, which I haven't had since I was a kid, couldn't be this bad. It's unfortunate 18 Folds has changed so much for the worse over the years in terms of menu items and quality of food. The ambience was great with all the windows and lanterns and they have heat lamps for outdoor seating. Front of house was friendly but their kitchen was slow so come prepared to wait. However, the food that came out was delicious. The hot and sour soup was packed with so much flavor and ingredients. The spicy wonton was my favorite and had the right amount of heat. Garlic noodle was so-so but large portions. The sausage fried rice was cooked well with the wok hei flavor. The chicken bao platter was also a hit and came with a half chicken so plenty of food. We came to 18 Folds on a Tuesday night for dinner. Before arriving, we looked up when the next reservation time would be available and there wasn't one until 8 PM. With this in mind, we thought we'd have to wait for a table, but when we got there, we found the restaurant was nearly empty. The host greeted us when we arrived and since we had no reservation, he shared with us that we would have to either sit at a table outside or at one specific table inside since the other ones were reserved. We opted to eat outside since it was a beautiful day and he brought us menus for us to look at. once we were seated, a gal brought us some waters, and then we were left alone for quite a bit of time. We thought they had forgotten about us since we were at the farthest table outside from the entrance, but after about 10 minutes, our waitress came to take our order. We opted to try their green beans, spicy shrimp, wontons, garlic noodles, and their hot honey chicken baos. The green beans arrived rather quickly, and so did the spicy shrimp wontons. Both were really good question! Then we have the garlic noodles which my one year-old daughter devoured! Last and certainly not least, the hot honey chicken baos arrived, and this was the star of the show. The chicken was fried and so juicy and crunchy. We got the xiao long bao (soup dumplings). The outside was dry and not what I expected from a steam basket. We were also not given spoons so I had to shove the entire dumpling in my mouth or risk spilling broth everywhere. Luckily(?), the inside broth was not very hot and I did not burn my tongue as I feared. Inside was fine but harder for me to savor due to my larger than typical bite of food. Shu Mai was okay. The pieces were very large and you got a decent amount for the price. Service was slow. My date and I originally wanted the dim sum platter but the waiter told us it'd take awhile to get to us because all the food needed to be prepared and sent out at the same time. I wish they told us when we sat down because we had already been waiting 20 minutes to order! The garlic green beans were one of the highlights -- cooked well, very flavorful, and loaded with garlic in a way that worked. We also tried the hot honey chicken bao dish, which came with steamed bao buns, crispy hot honey chicken, house pickles, and dipping sauces. A little assembly was required, but the components worked well together. The portion was generous, so it's best shared with at least three people. Flavor-wise, it was very good, though again, a bit pricey for only two people. Service was good. The ambiance is great as it's right in front of Anaheim Packing with beautiful decor, and a grassy area in the front. But of course, what's most important is the food. First of all, we ordered this steamed platter and it took 30-40 minutes even though we were the only table on a Thursday afternoon. None of the dumplings or fried foods were special. They are mostly known for their rice dishes and dim sums (dumplings). I decided to get their Steamer Party Platter and their Pork Fries rice. I was looking for a centralized location for Easter family lunch 2025. The weather was warm & sunny. I remember passing by this incredible looking restaurant when I was dining at the Packing House district a few weeks before called 18 Folds. A bit chewy but great dipping sauce. For main meal we ordered 2 specialty Steamer Party platters which were visually stunning. Especially tasty were the soup dumplings, shu mai & chicken egg rolls. The dipping sauces were excellent. No traditional hot mustard however. We also had the Crispy Ribs. Interesting outer garlic coating. Crunchy but somewhat tough, I felt like they were over fried & meat was somewhat dry. The spicy pickles were an interesting combination. We also had Shrimp garlic noodles. The shrimp was tasty but a bit dry. The noodles however tasted a bit off almost chalky. Not sure if it was the noodles or sauce. We also had the shrimp fried rice. Again not quite right. Food is great and is in a prime location in downtown Anaheim near the Packing House. Come early to find parking or you can valet. It is not located inside the packing house but across the walkway. My husband and I shared the steamer party platter and crispy ribs. It was enough to feed two if not more. I absolutely loved the crispy ribs. It felt like comfort food, just how my mom would make crispy ribs with the same dipping sauce. We make it with more spice and fish sauce and theirs is more lemony, less spice. I was slightly disappointed with the soup dumpling as it didn't taste as fresh as you would normally get soup dumplings. Additionally, the shrimp wonton was literally just shrimp wrapped in wonton. Anyone who has visited the Anaheim Packing house area knows when you come to this area what you need is to "pack" some extra time and patience to find parking. We both found street parking a few blocks away. I also recommend making reservations ahead of time. We sat at a table near an open window and the early evening breeze was superb. There were so many fun and enticing cocktails, beers, sakes and iced teas to choose from. The menu was quite extensive as well with a variety of sushi rolls, an assortment of appetizers, soups, specialty dishes, fried rices, noodles, and of course dim sum! We ordered a mix of items and had enough for both of us to take home leftovers. The staff and service were terrific and the music they were playing had me singing along. On our way out we visited the little "asian garden market" near the front door and admired the gifts, snacks, drinks I guess the way it works is you can just tell your waiter or waitress if you want any items added to your tab. Each couple ordered a couple things, and one person didn't get any of their items they ordered for over 20 minutes. The fried rice was interesting, but not in a good way. When compared to a popular counterpart like Din Tai Fung or Dan Modern Chinese, this place misses the mark which is unfortunate. I think tonight was maybe my 4th or 5th time coming here. I feel like the quality has dropped since the first time I came. Had to ask for a side of salt to add to the food in general but the green beans definitely just felt like oil and garlic thrown onto the green beans not a lot of flavor at all even when I added lemon. The pork fried rice is a good serving size but also I think sauces and salt make the food a lot better. The best thing was the fried chicken baos with the sides of sauces and pickled cucumber. Miso soup is actually so big compared to other restaurants sizes. Lack of flavor in most things but using every sauce and asking for salt made it better. I do love the decor and ambiance they have of being indoor and outdoor. Right next to packing house also so parking can be a hit or miss depending on when you go. The employees are so nice and have a smile every time they approach you. I'd come back but I hope the food improves because it is such a cute spot but with how much you're paying I'd expect the food to taste as good. read more

Quick Summary Pretty solid Asian food options, but would steer away from the Dim Sum options. The chicken bao and garlic noodles were my favorites and I recommend ordering it. Good service and ambiance; great for groups and families because of the hill area and decor outside. Parking is limited (can park in the structures near Anaheim Packing district or use valet) Food- 4 stars The chicken bao was the best dish we tried. Chicken was incredibly juicy and tender. Similar to other reviews, the soup dumplings were mediocre (little to no soup) and the shiu mai wasn't as moist and flavorful as other competitors.
