Good Food, Small Servings, High Prices This was my first trip into this place as my normal go to restaurant in town was closed today. I had seen this place when we played at the park across the field. I thought we would give it a shot. I ordered the blackened chicken pasta and found it to have a really good 4.5 stars sauce to it. The downside of this dishes I would give it two stars for serving size for a grown man. It was a good size for a woman but if you're a hungry man, you'll be left disappointed by $21 pasta that leaves you needing to eat something afterwards. There was a bunch of sauce left over so I asked the waitress if I could get some buns or bread or something since I was still a little hungry and I could mop up my sauce with it. She told me they don't have bread or buns or rolls or anything that I could have , so that was that. OK no one was doing anything really bad, but it wasn't amazing either. We first tried 1885 grill at a taste of Kennesaw in October. We were impressed so decided to give them a try. We were not disappointed! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! I love the fact that they have a place for you to leave business cards. As a local realtor, I love places that support local businesses! I can't remember the name of our server but she was really nice and provided great service. The food was really really tasty! I'm always hesitant to order Salmon, as there are so few places that can actually cook salmon properly. 1885 got it right and it was so flavorful! All of the food was really good! I've have been wanting to give this place a try for a while and finally was able to make it in. Overall the ambiance is nice and the service is good. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, so four stars for service. The food was just okay, needed some seasoning in my opinion. I had the shrimp and crawfish etoufee, the portion was a little small too, but it was super busy the day we went so not sure if that had an effect. The drinks were really good. On the middle of my route while at work found this restaurant and decided to try. When we walked in was not sure of the vibe due to hostess was on the phone and didn't give eye contact to acknowledge that they will be with us in a minute. This past week my partner and I celebrated 22 years together. He asked me to pick a restaurant to go to and have a nice meal. I began searching Yelp and all the places I've marked in my collections that I'd like to try. I sent him over a few options and we decided 1885 Grill sounded amazing with a lot of options of items to try. We do not live close to this restaurant so it was nearly a 50+ minute drive for us. With that in consideration you can see we could have gone anywhere in the metro area for this special celebration but chose 1885. We arrived and found parking easily in the lot provided. The restaurant was not very busy at 8pm. The weather was really nice, so we requested to sit on the porch. It was over 5 minutes before anyone came to our table with water or anything. This was probably around the time I started to think uh oh, maybe this wasn't our best choice. The table next to us was very loud and obnoxious. Not the restaurants fault but definitely a mood deflater as there was not a second of silence or relaxation to be had with a loud mouth spouting his overly opinionated world views to the entire patio. We ordered wings and empanadas as our appetizers. The wings were probably the star of the entire meal. I'm not usually someone who likes eating meat off the bone but I had 3 wings and loved them. The empanadas were good but it seemed like the seasoning of the meat mixture fell a little flat. It was tasty but not flavorful. The empanadas were crunchy and flaky and the sauce was good as well. The sauce did have a lot of long stems from the herbs though and at times it felt like eating grass for that reason as I pulled multiple long stems from my food or mouth. I ordered a Strawberry Mash to drink. It had coconut rum, muddled strawberries and house made lemonade. It was tasty even though the serving was a little smaller than I had expected or hoped for. For dinner I had the filet with Brussel sprouts and creamed corn. My partner ordered the rib-eye with Mac and cheese and another side that now I can't remember. It doesn't matter what meal he selected though because it came out completely wrong with the exact sides I had ordered instead of his. His steak was also well undercooked and bloody for what he ordered. He sent the entire meal back but the waitress told him to keep the sides. I guess that was their gesture for getting the meal wrong. The only problem was he can't stand those sides so he was just left hungry and waiting. No one noticed. As he waited for his meal to be corrected the first time (yup, the first of several trips back to the kitchen for his meal), I ate my meal. Let me just stop here to say one of my partner's biggest, most annoying pet peeves when eating out is if he has to sit and watch me eat my entire meal as he waits for his, or vice versa. At that point he says we're no longer eating a meal together but instead watching each other eat one at a time. I get it and it's especially annoying when it's an expensive dinner. But alas, here we were individually eating steak dinners (over $130 meal for 2). For that alone my partner would have said to give this place 1 star, luckily the wings and my filet saved the rating just a little. My filet was perfect. It was mouth watering, buttery, and cooked perfectly. My Brussel sprouts were just eh. I felt like they needed a little more cooking as they were hard and tough in spots. The creamed corn was good. And this is where I completely finished my meal as my partner watched and we waited for his food. His sides came out first and by this time he was hungry and I was about ready to leave or start thinking of dessert. His steak came back out and it was still bloody. He sent it back again. At this point the waitress tells us the kitchen is just really having an off night and that every single person who ordered the rib-eye that night had to send it back. But sending your meal back twice and getting the sides wrong is just purely the kitchen not even caring if they get it right. By the time his steak came out cooked enough for him to eat I had been done with my meal and was definitely ready to leave. I was trying so hard to not complain because it was supposed to be our nice evening out to celebrate. He let me try a bite of his steak and it was horrible. It was chewy in a very bad way and just had a super cheap meat taste. We ordered a slice of key lime cheesecake to go and again waited forever for both it and our check to arrive. The cheesecake tasted almost burnt on top to me but my partner seemed to like it. I would definitely not order it again. We both agreed the food, minus his steak and entire meal screw-up, was good. However the service and lack of attention from the kitchen to get the meal right or management to try to correct the situation was a HUGE miss. So our suggestion if you try this place is to pack your patience, stick to the appetizers, and don't go here for a really special occasion or with any expectations. read more

Ordered the Mac and Cheese balls, the appetizer came out cold and solid in the middle... the bartender immediately requested a fresh order. Unfortunately, my burger came and had a long piece of dirty blonde hair going across the bun... but to make matters worse the waitress brings a new one and jokingly says "hopefully, this one is hairless"... At this point, you should be apologizing not joking.. but it gets better the second burger had a piece of blonde hair on it!!!! Just had an awesome dinner here. Traveling in a moving truck with my sister (we're no spring chickens) we were tired, hungry and looking for a good sit down dinner. This place did not disappoint. From the greeting and guidance (we were looking for a hotel after dinner) at the door, the staff was kind and helpful. Kudos to our server Camila. So disappointed. We were in Acworth for another restaurant that wasn't taking walk-ins so I jumped on Yelp and was excited to find 1885. Reviews were great and I had trouble choosing between a couple of brunch options. After chatting with the server, I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was flavorful but the waffles were thin, bland and ice cold. The butter wouldn't spread let alone melt. I might chalk it up to one bad moment from the kitchen but there are too many excellent brunch places for the price. After deciding to meet up with some friends for brunch, I hopped on Yelp to get some brunch recommendations for places near the area they lived. Even though this place was pretty far out from my usual travel area, I was happy that we picked this place. I checked their website as I couldn't find them on any of the apps I use to make reservations and was happy to know that while they did not take reservations, they did allow for call ahead seating as well as preferred seating. So with a quick call, I spoke with kind young lady who took my info and the time we were planning to arrive and I got a text message right after to confirm. When we arrived, the parking lot was full of people and there were a goooood bit of folks waiting to be seated butttt luckily for us, I gave my name and we were seated within 2 minutes after arriving (I did get a few stares from people who had clearly been there waiting butttt I mean the option to call ahead was in their website sooooo there's that). Walking in, I think I was amazed by how big this place is. It's just huge. Super high ceilings, huge covered patio area, lots of booths, high tops, standard tables, a cute bar area towards the back with a few tvs for those enjoying Sunday football and it just looked like a fun place to come and hang. I mean I did sneak lots of peeks at the food on tables as we walked by and I knew it was going to be a great experience. Our waitress was awesome! She was handling a lot of tables but she was doing it with ease and was just a really sweet person and answered all questions and offered up suggestions. Bourbon and pork chop!!! Their Southern Gentleman cocktail paired with grilled chop with sliced apple compote, hush-puppies and greens was a winner. I make a trip from north Minnesota to south Florida and back yearly, and stay in a nearby motel just to eat at a known great restaurant. You feel welcome as soon as you encounter the greeters, the waitstaff is uniformly affable and the food excellent. Of all the years Ive lived here I never knew this place existed. Came here as a treat for Mother's Day. We started our meal with fried green tomatoes. I came with this cheese scoop and was delivious. I had the blackenedsalmon and my partner had the shrimp etoufee. Everything was delicious accept the sautéed green beans. Garbage service. I have been to many places across the US and this hands down has to be the worse managed establishment in have ever been at. The two managers on shift dont give a rats ass about the customer. I have trained high level executives in several industries and i would not recommend these two for garbage collection. I have and will continue to reach out to this places corporate office and i will do everything i can to remove these two from their jobs. These two people dont deserve a job. They were rude and know nothing about taking care of the customer nor owning their own mistakes. By the way when you make a reservation with them make sure they actually keep the kitchen open We had a reservation for 8:30pm and arrived at 8:15pm. We checked in a d went to the bar for a drink. They said they would text us. At 9pm the bartender advised us the kitchen was closed. My wife went to the front and the young man took ownership and d apologized that their system canceled our reservation or something like that and we would be seated. At this point wverything went fine. We sat down and the waitress/manager took our drink order. I asked for a Jamenson orange and gingerale. When the drinks arrived the runner gave me a cup of gingerale and a shot of Jamenson (not orange Jamenson). I tolder her this is wrong and i asked for the Orange. She left and came back woth a cup of orange juice! Confused i went and found the waitress/manager who tried to defend this by saying "you got what you ordered" she was nasty and argumentative. The runner walked up with the actual drink with this smirk on her face and manager pretty much telling me too bad shit happens. The runner sticks the drink at my face nit in ny face but at it and says "here" with an attitide. At this point im done. If you dont know how to treat me as a customer then you dont get my money. My wife walks up to a ither manager and attenpts to explain what happened and he shut her down and said "We are done here!" I hope the owner sees this post. We have a dear friend who works here and cant believe the treatment we received. The seever/manager should be retrained or fired and the snotty runner girl should focus on school so she can avoid doing any type of work that involved customer interaction. Regardless even if somehow i am wrong somehow someway i was the one who misled with my order when did taking care of the customer nit become the prime focus. I was not loud not rude until the server/manager started trying to defend it and argue with me. Horrible horrible wxperience and this was new years eve. Only giving 4 stars due to all the flies at our table (we sat inside!) and all the flies we saw in the kitchen area tonight. We sat a booth that had a view of the kitchen/serving window and flies were all congregated on top of that bar above the food. Not an appetizing look, I must say. First visit - surprised to find this big nice restaurant sort of hiding in downtown Acworth. I mean it's in a big building & well marked but I've never driven by before. Anyway, had a good burger & wife enjoyed a fried flounder sandwich (bun too large) & ok slaw. Since fries were an up charge with the burger, I took the standard hush puppies. The were made with unnecessary green peppers or jalapeños, which can ruin a good hush puppy. We'll probably go back & suspect we'll both try something different. read more
