I headed to Opulent for dinner last night after hearing rave reviews. I was told I HAD to get the burger. I love a good burger and had been literally waiting 3 weeks for the chance to have this burger. I can't voice my disappointment enough. We called ahead for seating, highly recommended, arrived and waited for our table at the bar. The bar tender was super busy but very friendly and helpful. Had a couple glasses of wine and waited for our table. The atmosphere is great, definitely a throw back and in retrospect I wish we'd just ordered at the bar. When our table was ready outside we headed out. We were ready to order but waited and waited for our waiter. When he arrived he was bumbling and slow. We ordered our burgers right off the bat. I had ordered it without mushrooms as rare as possible. When the burger arrived, or should I say two burgers as there are two patties on the bun, I was excited. I cut it and dug in. The burger lacked flavor, needed salt or something, almost like they forgot the sauce entirely. Let me rephrase that the burger had NO FLAVOR! The burger was also borderline well done and lacked any pink. I added salt and ketchup in an attempt to salvage the experience, salt of which I had to ask for as it does not appear on the table. It didn't help and to add insult to injury beneath the cheese I found the mushrooms. The only saving grace of the meal were the amazing fries. PROS: Great bar, friendly hostess/bartenders CONS: Disappointing burger, wait time for tables, limited outdoor seating, lack of a dessert menu (only one dessert which they were out of last night), terrible experience with a young waiter. read more

So, we came here with my family on Memorial Day and everything that was out of their control went wrong. AC went out, supplier didn't deliver tomatoes, and a couple other problems. They took everything in stride and took great care of us. Because they handled the crap so well, my wife and I came back. Food is great, staff is courteous, yadda yadda yadda. We'll keep coming back. I got the salmon BLT today... flavors were good, but WAY too many conflicting textures in a single bite. I got their short rib enchilada special on our previous visit, those were on point. read more

Jenna was able to squeeze us in at the last minute on a Saturday night, and we are so glad that she was able to find us a table. I started with the gumbo and grits which was amazing. I then had the short rib dinner with the mushroom risotto and my wife had the short rib shepherds pie, both were delicious. For dessert we had the deep fried cheese cake, again, amazing. My bf and I passed by otw to Andretti's and decided to drop in and try it out. It is a cute little spot. We got a few appetizers: kobe meatballs, goat cheese ravioli, short rib, and the tomato mozzarella caprese. The kobe meatballs were pretty good, loved the ricotta dollops on top. Goat cheese ravioli was amazing!!! So good. My bf loved the short rib so much we ordered another one. I also enjoyed 1/2 doz oysters which were delicious! Only thing we wished was that the tomato caprese came with some type of toast or something to put it on top of. Definitely will have to come back for more. I had a sazerac to drink which was good. I was most impressed by their liquor selection though! So many scotch's and whiskeys!!! Great pricing too! They have whistle pig, papi, rittenhouse, bulliet, blantons, etc. you name it! They even barrel age some! There were 5 barrel aged to choose from, and they offer a flight for it! Pretty awesome. Our server was great too! Pretty good spot. My buddy and I walked by on a Friday night and noticed it was super crowded so we decided to give it a shot. He had his daughter and they were able to accommodate without hesitation. The ladies at the front were really friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were sat promptly and comfortable. We were greeted promptly by our server who was a bros bro. He was pretty cool, suggested a few beers and we went with his recommendation. My friend ordered the crab and shrimp dip...it was ok. I then ordered the smoked chicken and he ordered the brisket...I think. They were both great! The atmosphere, staff, food was amazing. Had a family-owned feel, not too fancy, nice casual feel. Definitely felt comfortable from start to finish even though his daughter got a little rowdy in the middle. One thing that creeped me out was the kitchen, I walked by and the door was open, kind of cluttered but I get it, it was Friday night and busy and it's a small kitchen. We where a party of 4 and the restaurant was not crowded but we were wedged into a half booth half seats table, there was no space between tables to get to the booth side. The waiter just stood there so we pulled the table out to squeeze in. The waiter was far from helpful, we said it was our first time and asked for any suggestions on appetizers with the response "not really sure", as a waiter in such an expensive place you should have some recommendations. As for the food, we had the mussels in wine sauce which were very good and the raviolis which were so so. As for dinners we had the spare ribs, very small portions and came out cool so flavor was ok, the grouper was under cooked and for a the rest the potatoes were still a bit raw. All said, the food could have pretty good but nothing was fully cooked or came out under temp. We did mention to our waiter just to be polite to let him know and he thanked us but that was all. Love Canton street but not all restaurants are created equal. 1920 is always busy which I imagine is due to its location. Our party of three for dinner had drinks, apps, salad and entrees. Drinks-5 minute drink delivery time then arrived with melted ice. Apps came quickly and all seemed to taste alike and appeared hastily prepared. Appreciate the effort but only of the product is worth it. The salads were average with one salad having warming lettuce and other wilted lettuce. The entrees came right on top of the salads, within minutes. The main course on 2 of 3 plates had obviously been cooked too quickly from char on salmon and chicken with press marks from a grill weight. The veggies on the other plate were cold and the mashed potatoes must have been sitting in the pastry squeeze bag a bit too long as they were only warm and didn't look or taste happy. Love downtown Roswell and all of the different spots to enjoy dinner, drinks and people watch. We had the BLACKENED GULF MAHI and the SMOKED GOUDA & TURKEY. Both were delicious. The bartender was fairly knowledgeable on the wine and recommended a great Pinot Noir. Nice bar with a good variety of wine to choose from. Very friendly staff that took care of us while we waited. Checked it out on a Saturday night with a group of 4 and we were all quite impressed. Oysters for starters hit the mark, and I enjoyed the brick pressed beef which was moist and tender, no knife needed. The drinks were tasty and the portions large enough that no one had room for dessert. The atmosphere is casual and right in the heart of Canton street so I recommend a table outside for some great people watching. Looking forward to the next outing. read more

Our server Shelby was amazing..however my rib eye steak was burnt to a crisp and with surrounding 5 star resturants such as Little Alleys you would expect great food...once my steak came back out from being recooked it was med rare (I ordered medium). So i just boxed it up and paid for it. My friends at the table had great food...but for me I wasn't happy. Shelby our server was amazing and very sweet. My girlfriend and I went to this yesterday. It was our first time. I think they were out of Rye bread for the Ruben which was disappointing. That being said a sourdough bread would have sufficed. Came here last night and let me tell you!!! The service from my bartender Presley was phenomenal. He was very knowledgeable and determined to make the perfect drink for me. He even allowed me to sample a couple of their new cocktails on their special menu for the season. He had a full bar and still provided the best service. This one is keeper! The atmosphere was wonderful, the musician was even wonderful! The food menu had a great variety of dishes and the burrata was the best I have ever had. Standing out in a litany of eating establishments on Canton St on Roswell Square is not an easy task. The 1920 TAVERN `s fabulous eclectic menu is amazing. Went there last night. The food was good but service and issue resolution was not. I ordered 3 appetizers. They came out ok but the server never returned for 30 minutes. Upon eating I chewed on some porcelain or glass. Obviously I stopped eating upon chewing on it. I waited for the server to come back which was awhile. She finally showed up and got a manager. He took the food away (1/4th eaten) and said oh my gosh. He then disappeared. The server asked if she could get me another drink. I thought they were making my food over but they didn't. HOT DAMN!!!! I'm so happy to write this review after having such an amazing meal in a great spot. This was my first time at 1920 and my first time eating in Roswell. This place nails it on every single level. Every aspect of time and effort shows in this restaurant. Every detail feels right and 1920 just simply made me happy. I couldn't help but say it over and over again how perfect this restaurant was. Here we go... It's around 4pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon in May and the people are strolling along Canton St. So, we park at the top of the block and start to stroll along like everyone else. We are a group of four; my wife, our 4 year-old daughter, my father-in-law and myself. As usual, our daughter has to go potty and 1920 is the first spot we come across. The outside tables are buzzing and the hostess is posted up outside on the sidewalk. Looks like a nice place to eat lets look at the menu. My daughter REALLY had to go potty NOW daddy... so I take her inside to use the restroom while they look over the menu. At first entrance, it was funny. The outside was packed with people, and the inside was empty. Everyone wanted to eat outside on this beautiful day and people were willing to wait for a table outside when there were plenty of tables inside. The stark difference between outside and inside was just funny to me. My daughter and I walked past the long open bar on the right and a bunch of large booths on the left. Standing in the bathroom while waiting for my daughter, I noticed all the little details to this old building. It has the old black and white floor tiles, the industrial hardware and white subway tiles on the walls. It had old black and white pictures of this building from the very very old days. I just looked around and said, wow, this place was nicely decorated. As we came out of the bathroom, I had time to notice the large party room in the back and the interesting lighting fixtures back there. I came forward and looked around and everything just seemed to be done right. I even mentioned to the bartender how impressed I was with the aesthetic of the place. I felt like it had been there for over 100 years. It felt like an old historic Manhattan bar from downtown. Anyways... In the mood for a chicken club sandwich, I headed back outside to see what my wife and father-in-law thought of the menu. I looked at the menu myself and sure enough, there it was... chicken club sandwich. It seemed like a sign so I said lets do it. There were no tables available right now outside so the hostess sat us at the first booth inside. I was fine with that because I wanted my wife to see what this place looked like inside. The hostess asked my daughter if she would like some crayons and a coloring page to draw on and that made my daughter happy and kept her busy for a while. The waiter came over almost immediately and started going over things. He was genuinely interested in our day and what brought us to Roswell this afternoon. He described some kind of white wine, lime, seltzer drink on ice and how perfect it is on a hot summer day and it sounded so good we ordered two. They were delicious. Then he came back and took our orders. I told him how much I liked the place so far and I that hope the food doesn't let me down. My wife had the Fried Green Tomatoes. My father-in-law had a burger and while I was looking at the chicken club sandwich I always like to ask what the waiter recommends. He answer was... well, you can pretty much get a chicken club sandwich anywhere so... Our BBQ Short Rib sandwich is AMAZING and our Reuben is equally good and everyone is ordering it. I noticed one passing as he said that. He couldn't really help me choose between the two because he agreed that they were both his favorites and you can't go wrong with either of them. I went with the Reuben. It was PERFECTION!!!! The bread was thin enough that it crisps just right in the press. The dressing had just the slightest hint of pickle in it the sauerkraut was perfect and the house french fries were DELICIOUS. Not too thick. They take a potato and press it down through this machine and out come 1/4" fries. mmm mmm MMMM. Then theres a fat pickle half sitting on the side. The waiter came over a bunch of times because we kept engaging him in conversation and he told us all about the town, the river and the old building. I told him how impressed I was with this entire experience. From the atmosphere to the food to the cocktails to the friendliness of the people. They hit a homerun with this place and they should be seriously proud of themselves. My father-in-law aka the pickiest food critic in the world said his burger was really really good and my wife said she liked her dish as well. But me.... maaaaaan... I'm still talking about this place. I even had to go to the back and tell the chef what a great job they were doing back there. I'll be back for sure!!! read more

With a name like "Opulent" you had better be good. Certainly the surroundings are more casual than opulent; however, this downtown Roswell eatery and bar is indeed very nice a place to be "seen" in this upscale community. A table on the street is the place to be on a warm summer's evening. Inside you'll find a large, dark bar area with well dressed and imbibing patrons as well as a line of booths for comfortable dining. Catch a peek of the semi-open kitchen towards the back of the house. Service is friendly and efficient. Ryan is terrific. Food is the star at Opulent. Creative, fresh ingredients indicate farm to table leanings, and the items mostly score high scores for taste. Highlights: The mushroom soup is cream-less and terrific. Rocket, or arugula, salad is tasty and fairly priced. Beef brisket is fall-apart goodness. Entree prices run from about $17 to $30. The only challenge when eating at Opulent is that troublesome Roswell parking issue. Unless you are really lucky expect to pay a few bucks to park nearby and do the scenic walk to the restaurant. But that's part of the Roswell charm, right? Come to Roswell and enjoy a casually "Opulent" dining experience. read more

Went on Saturday night for dinner with 4 people. Reservation was at 8pm and we were seated (outside) on time. We ordered drinks, domestic beer and wine were priced well but premium Martini was almost $16 which was way overpriced! We ordered several appetizers, we had the Tavern salad, quinoa salad, JR oysters, calamari and burrata Caprese. Overall everything was good, the calamari portion was small but the burrata caprese was really good. For my entree I had the shrimp and grits, it was decent. We also had boneless short ribs, tasty! It's restaurant week in Roswell! We had no idea but we were lucky enough to get a reservation at 1920 Tavern. Everything we had was perfectly cooked and presented. Our server Kim is a professional in every sense of the word. She is smart, fun and accommodating. Her menu suggestions were spot on!
