Disappointing - called ahead to reserve a table and told I won't need a reservation ... when I arrive they can't squeeze me in ...

Probably the best steak I've had in a while. The decor was upscale and the service was awesome. Very good wine list with appropriate pairings on the menu. The only disappointment (for me) was the bread. My date loved it but I thought it was a tad pedestrian in comparison to the rest of the food. It was basically garlic bread. read more

I had read the reviews on this restaurant, most of which were not good but we decided to give it a try and keep an open mind, that was a mistake. I don't usually do reviews, but was very disappointed in this experience. I ordered the special which was a filet and scallops. There was not a hot food item on my plate, everything was room temperature. Steak was dry and not much flavor. The prices are outrageous for what you are served and the quality of food is poor at best. I would not recommend this restaurant. It will be the first and last time I eat there. read more

The food was ok; both my meal and my wife's were too hot(spicy) to eat. She had a shrimp dish, I had grouper. The main issue is that this place is WAY overpriced. Our bill for 2 people was $119! read more

Ossobuccu was absolutely the worst piece of meat I've ever eaten at a restaurant for a wasted $34

My $30 strip steak had no seasoning what so ever. I questioned the manager, who told me they don't season their steaks. On what planet don't you season a steak. This was the second effort at my steak, the medium rare steak I ordered came out cooked well done with zero sear. My son's food was gross and he sent it back. The manager replaced it with a hamburger, which showed up 30 minutes later, after we were all done eating. It was cooked well done, again, and may have been microwaved to reheat it. The manager took off my steak, my son's meal and half his hamburger. She also removed my daughters steak, which was raw, not rare. The restaurant is beautiful, the servers and manager were great but at $30 a steak, they should probably hire a chef that knows how to prepare one. There were only four tables in the restaurant so there was really no excuse. We won't be returning. read more

Great experience at 1922. Server was awesome and went out of her way. My ribeye was delicious and cooked the way I like it. Unfortunately, my wife ordered Lasagne and it was actually not edible. Other than that, it was a pretty good experience. read more

We started with a margarita and a spicy Sophia. Both were great with the interesting calamari. Lightly breaded with slices of hot peppers and a spicy red sauce. My wife an split a 8oz tenderloin with a fully loaded baked potato. The side order of carrots was large and perfectly cooked (not hard) and seasoned. read more

Ate there for dinner as a walk in and was seated. The food being served smelled great and looked good also. I had the wedge with salmon and was delicious. Salmon was great; salad ended with a little too much dressing. It didn't take away from the salad at all, just last two bites were starting to lose crisp. Wife order a filet, it came over cooked, not enough to not eat. The server immediately recognized that it was not she wanted, and ordered a refire. The replacement was perfect. The spicy mashed potatoes were delicious. Value is excellent, you pay for the fine dining experience, it is worth the price. I believe this will be our upscale restaurant to celebrate. read more

First visit, picking up for home consumption was quite good. Sea Bass was really good, the pork chop with bourbon maple sauce was as good as the come. Salad with Greek dressing was crisp, croutons were crunchy-the dressing was good, but more a balsamic than Greek. Shrimp cocktails - shrimp ok/just fine but cocktail sauce was outstanding. If you enjoy pissing out of your butthole all night this is the place for you. No joke! The bread brought to the table is practically inedible due to all the toppings packed on it. First. Given credit to the wait staff. They were on top of it, very prompt, and courteous. One of the better wait staffs I've seen in quite some time across numerous restaurants. Second, the food was pretty good. Both in terms of the appetizers and the main course. Also the cocktail selection was pretty good. Some folks may seem to think it's a little pricey for 'Nerk but the food and wait staff made it well worth it. read more

The food is way over priced. 4 of us got New York strip steaks, 2 were mostly fat, one was really crispy. The 2 baked potatoes were just tossed in the microwave! Horrible! I booked reservations for my girlfriends birthday a week in advance and she was very happy when we got there. The place is beautiful on the inside and right on downtown Newark. The service there was amazing! We got a Caesar salad to split and it was very good. She got the salmon and said it was the best salmon she had ever had (and she's a salmon critic). I got the fried chicken, and got way more than I expected! It had a mix of dark and white meat with a small salad. I also got a side of the mac and cheese there and it was big and super cheesy. It was baked and also reheated well. My girlfriend got a baked potato as well and she loved it. For desert, they gave us a free one and we got the lava cake. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I would highly recommend coming here and we will definitely be returning!! read more

We made a reservation for 5:00 and thought this would be plenty of time to see our concert at 7:00pm. We arrived about 10 min early and was told we would have to wait - even though we had reservations. No worries -- we were early, and everything was good - we thought. Once we were seated our waitress took our drink order and I ordered water with lemon. After about 20 minutes, she brought the other 3 orders but not my water - she took off and I flagged her down and she said "what do you want" - i was floored -- I asked if i could have my water with lemon and she walked off. She finally came back - not with my water - which i had to ask for again - and took our order - now this was 35 minutes after we were seated. I flagged her down again and asked for a craft of water, she finally brought my water and took the other 3 ordered drinks. At 6:15pm we still hadn't gotten our food or our drinks. Our waitress Heather was rude and didn't even check on our table. I got up to find someone to help us and asked another server to see the manager - they said they were unavailable, and that people have been waiting since 4pm for their food (this was after 6pm) - I told her that was completely unacceptable. I understand they were busy and I'm ok with that -- all it takes is a server that keeps you posted and checks on your table once in a while. We had to flag our waitress down AGAIN and asked for the bill because it was 6:30 and we wanted to try to find someplace to get food. When we left, we went to Barrel and Boar (which was also busy) but was greeted with GREAT staff who served us food and drinks and we were able to get to our concert in a timely manner (only 10 min late). If a high-end restaurant cannot handle a crowd and have a happy staff - something more is going on. We will never go back because of the poor service, RUDE staff and overall poor environment. read more

Last night we made a reservation for 7:00pm and arrived right on time with our 1 year old daughter. Many people were being sat at their tables when we arrived. We were told that the table would be available for us shortly. Another couple was also waiting for their table. Our table was not ready until 7:35pm. Which made the night very challenging for us with a hungry little one. The food was eloquent and the server did great. I wish we had just showed up like the other guests that got sat right ahead of us and not tried to have reservations so that we wouldn't have to wait so long. read more

We had an amazing dinner on a Monday night. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was a generous portion. The gnocchi bolognese, too, was generous and was very tasty. Very disappointed. Order tenderloin cooked medium. Came to the table with a heartbeat. I can do medium rare but raw is another thing. Would have sent it back to the kitchen but server didn't show back up for another 15 minutes. There were 4 other tables in the entire restaurant. Mac and cheese is good. We have been to 1922 multiple time now, and have loved every visit! We miss The Natoma, and were so happy to know a nice restaurant was coming back to this spot. The food here is excellent, service is great and the decor is charming. There are tons of little touches in place that make this restraunt feel special. Really wanted to like this place. Tried it twice. The bar is fantastic and would go there again. The food is just not up to the bar for the $$ they charge. I got a jalapeno scalloped potato dish and there were like 6 slices of potato and globs of unmelted cheese with a solo jalapeno on top. I was surprised the chef sent that out. I also had the crab and shrimp pasta dish and the shrimp were so overcooked. Sigh. Maybe they will get a new chef. Not going back. read more

One of the best meals I've had out for a long time. We started with the calamari, which was not overly breaded and cooked perfectly. I had the baby beef tenderloin (Natoma style) with sweet potato mash. I asked for the steak to be medium rare and it was spot on. The sweet potato mash was so smooth and sweet with buttery brown sugar and pecans. We wanted to get dessert but we were both perfectly comfortable with the portions we had for dinner.
