After firing another contractor who couldn't complete our stairs, our designer pointed us to David. He was very open to the million questions I had and was patient despite the fact that I was so stressed out and weary about completing our renovation. We had a little miscommunication because the designer, myself, my husband and David were all involved and too many people were involved regarding the material to order. However, once it got squared away David's team came and did a great job on our stairs. I was concerned about the bullnose, flooring mismatch, but they did a great job working with my husband to choose the best color match out of what we had purchased. The team of three men were respectful, professional and clean. Overall would highly recommend!

Our beautiful new floors!!!

Dave and his crew are amazing at what they do and really know their stuff. His entire crew are all very professional and respectful, and they get the job done right. We love our new floors and the attention to detail. We will definitely be using Brighten Flooring again for future projects and highly recommend them. Cheers Dave and Crew!!!

David did the flooring and baseboards throughout

5 STARS...TWICE :) David at Brighten Flooring was highly recommended to me because I needed new carpeting in my rental condo. I called and explained to David that I was in a bit of a jam based on my timeline and wondered if he could help. His immediate answer was yes. I stopped by the showroom within the hour and reviewed carpet samples and baseboard options. David was so accommodating, helpful and definitely patient with my questions. David stopped by the condo to measure the rooms and provide an estimate onsite. While we were having a general discussion about the condo updates that were needed, I learned that David could handle the entire project. This meant bathroom updates including resurfacing the bathtubs and tile surrounds, plus a kitchen update with new cabinets, recessed lighting, quartz countertops, faucets, new stainless-steel appliance package. As with any updating, there were little things that needed attention like a new garbage disposal, replacing water hoses, new carbon monoxide/smoke alarm and anything else I'm forgetting. David kept me apprised at every step; he has excellent taste; and was very respectful of working in a condo unit community. I am impressed and so happy with all the work David completed. I'd work with him again!! Thank you David!!!

That's how our house looks like during Christmas.

The reason for one star is simple. We spent $10,000, but lived in an unfinished house for more than 100 days. Yes, that's more than three months, and we cannot invite friends to our new house during Christmas, New Year, my wife's birthday, and my birthday. So why choose Brighten Flooring at the first place? Several reasons. 1. My friend Gang recommended the company (now he said he regrets doing so) 2. The company's owner said the job can be done in time to meet our schedule (you already knew that it took 3 months) 3. The company's estimated price is $6,450, and said the price might go up to around $7,500 (apparently we paid a lot more) 4. The company looks good on Yelp with almost 100% nice reviews (not anymore) So here is our story. My wife and I were first time home owners, and we were so excited to move into our new house. We chose Brighten Flooring for house remodeling, and everything looks good at the beginning... Until something happened.. Long story short, Brighten Flooring cannot provide the right stair-nose for our house. The one they brought were in a total different white color, and in Brighten Flooring's words, 'the color does not match'. And that's the beginning of the nightmare. We were weeks away to move in, but we cannot get the project done. Brighten Flooring said hundreds of times that 'we did our best, it's not our fault', but just cannot finish the project before we move in. I just cannot help to think, if this is what they can best do, what would happen to you if they cannot do their best? After we moved in, we continued to ask Brighten Flooring to provide the right stair-nose. Different time, different reasons. The owner is out of town, the owner cannot meet the manufacturer, the manufacturer needs more time... So we were forced to live in the unfinished house for 3 months. The happiness of moving into our first new house, became a really bad memory. We had no choice but contacted a lawyer. After consulting for weeks, Brighten Flooring finally agreed that they will change the floors so that we can have the project done, 3 months after the expected finishing date. And that's the question. We already had all our furniture moved in. But to replace the floor, we have to put everything back to boxes. What a mess! You can imagine what happened. Every night we went home, there are dusts everywhere. You can smell the glue. And we have to sleep in living rooms without a single piece of floor during the installation. That's the worst week I have ever spent since I am in San Diego. So you may say, well, the project was delayed by 3 months, and you were forced to live in an unfinished house so long. Brighten Flooring must compensated you in some way? No. Absolutely no. Brighten Flooring said they won't compensate anything they have caused. Sounds like we totally deserve it. Well, you know, it's not their fault, as they have told us for hundreds of times. So why bother to comfort a young couple? Anyway, I have read all the good reviews you guys left, and I totally believe that they were true. However, there is a saying in China. You can only tell one's quality when you are in trouble. When we were in trouble with the service provided by Brighten Flooring, we don't think it deserves all the credits shown on Yelp. For future readers, if you plan to work with Brighten Flooring, please do the following things. 1. Read my review and have a second think. 2. If you still want to work with them, I sincerely wish you have the best luck. If anything bad happens, Brighten Flooring won't help you, and you will suffer. 3. This is IMPORTANT. Always put a deadline on the contract when you decide to work with Brighten Flooring. NO DEADLINE, NO CONTRACT. This would protect you the most, if anything bad happens. 4. Check the price of the materials. Their price is ~20% higher than what you can find in other places. We figured this out after we signed the contract. We have learned this with blood, sweat, and tears. With all the lessons we have learned, we sincerely hope our experience is useful to you. Best,

The nail gun they left out within reach of my three kids

We had our floors put in by Brighten Floors and I really wish I had done my research on this company and the workers David chooses to employ. This was suppose to be an exciting thing for us but now every time I look at my floors I get sick to my stomach with all the events that took place. My son could be dead right now because of their careless efforts. Long story short, the crew left very dangerous piece of equipment out within reach of my 3 kids, one of which was desperate trying to pick it up! When I called to let David know there was a nail gun loaded and attached to some pressurized tank his crew left here, he told me to take the pin out of the tank so it would stop making a terrible sound. Why in the world he asked me to do this is beyond me! I simply touched it and it shot air in my face, it scared the hell out of me. His next response was " I have a client coming in right now when I am done I'll come by and get it" REALLY?!!! I wonder how he would react if someone told his family to wait until it was convent for him to come pick up a dangerous tool left behind. It took him almost 3 hours to come pick up the nail gun and he delusionally said "it took me less than an hour to get here". When he came to get it, he didn't apologize he brought it out to where I was with my kids and told me it had a child safety on it so nobody would get hurt if the kids did touch it! I couldn't believe it, that meant nothing to me, my kids are smart and figure out how to control and operate things I don't even know how to. He continued to stay and try to talk to me and would not just leave, I was so upset with how I was being treated by someone whom I was paying and whom put my kids in danger. Sadly that wasn't the last of it, later the very same evening as I was getting ready to go upstairs for the night I noticed that next to my sofa where my kids had been all day barefoot was a razor blade it was next to a box of flooring. When I took a picture of it and said you really need to make sure your crew does a throughout walk through before leaving for the day, his response was " I walked around and took video of the house before leaving and every thing seemed ok" No he didn't say, I am sorry about that but let me just deflect the situation. There were so many horrible things that took place those were the top two. We were told we would be comfortable staying in our home for this project, my husband and I both told David that last time we had work done we had to move out and that our kids have special needs. He then reassured us we would be fine. No way could we stay in our home, the crew starts up with their machines at 7:00 am, then they take their breaks and smoke cigarettes outside my home while we are trying to get the kids out the door, the crew decided to not hook up a shop vacuum to the saw ( which takes literally less than a minute to do) as a result we have saw dust everywhere, literally everywhere, I have several pictures of the damage they caused to my yard and my neighbors yard. They also didn't tell me they would be using my balcony to cut the boards and I had just washed my really expensive yoga clothes and had them line drying (I am a yoga instructor) instead of asking me to move them or take the 30 seconds to move them they started up their saw not using a bag to collect the dust or a vacuum again and got saw dust all over my clothes, all my plants, my kids toys, I will be cleaning this up for months yet it literally takes less than a minute to hook up something to collect the dust. When I pointed this out to David, he aggressively said "it's a construction site" Right, one we were suppose to be comfortable in with all of this going on. There is so much more, the stairs look terrible, we didn't pick out the cheap looking stair noses he chose, didn't even know they had to be a different color which I understand NOW but why didn't we the clients get to choose what goes into our home? The job took over two weeks to complete, we had to move out because there was no way we were safe or anywhere near comfortable. If we had known the real details we would have made arrangements but it was a surprise and it was also spring break so we had to pay double for accommodations. I am convinced that most of these reviews are from his friends and not actual clients. Do yourself a favor and find someone else. We were treated very poorly, the workers were unprofessional, the whole job was a terrible experience. And if you're wondering if he discounted us at all for all of these issues, nope! I will definitely be writing into the better business bureau about this situation.

100% recommend Brighten Flooring to anyone and everyone. David is honest and kind, so easy to work with. I really appreciated the excellent communication and quality of the work. David's team is very efficient and professional. I LOVE my floors and am so so so happy. I will definitely be using them again in the future.

Flooring from second floor top view

It has been about 2 months since David's team finished the magnificent flooring work and I think it's safe for me to finally write this overdue review. My wife and I are both very picky people, and I think maybe we are both border line OCD. The fact that we could not find anything to complain probably proves something if you know us personally. I will add a few photos later, but here's the story: After some internal debate, we decided to lay floor on the entire second level and a curved staircase. We were on a limited budget, so we got a few contractors came over to quote. Looking for a contractor to work with almost resembles an online date: while the parameters of pricing, materials and timing do matter, what makes you seal a deal is how you feel about this person. David is very laid-back, straight forward and I do enjoy him using his NPR voice to narrate the work plan. His quote is very reasonable (slightly towards the moderate high, but still lower than many of our other quotes), and he assured us the quality of his work. He also found some very beautiful, reasonably priced long and wide floor planks which match our existing floors perfectly. Very soon his crew started to work. Because the subfloor got some serious leveling issues, David recommended us to do some enhanced leveling with some additional cost. While I don't like the idea of adding more money, the outcome we saw later made me totally happy that I followed David's advice. The floor turned out to be clean and smooth, and it significantly reduced the creaking noise and flexes on the second floor after everything is glued down. The floor felt very solid - and I can't describe how much we love the floors (and I simply can never live in a place with carpets anymore). The highlight of the project, obviously, was the staircase. The floor took about 3 days, and the staircase alone took about 4. David's team demonstrated phenomenal craftsmanship. Check the photo later - the first step consists of more than 10 custom cut pieces, all matched together, perfectly leveled without any gaps. I watched those guys work, and they definitely love what they do. Christian and Fernando even tested several alternative solutions for some detailing work beyond their duties. I couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend David's team to anyone in the area. His crew are always in high demand - so call him early. If you want to flip a house with some quick, cheap flooring, he may not be very suitable to you; but if you want to have some beautiful flooring waiting for you everyday after work, in a place where you call home, then go ahead and give him a call - you won't regret, I guarantee it.

My fantastic floors and baseboards!
Job was completed 2 days early.
 Great price, unbeatable service.

Honest guy, great prices, and no cheap Chinese products! The flooring doesn't have a weird smell, all American made.

As for the installation team, (who are not employed by Gus but they have been working together, hand in glove for many years and are an excellent partnership), they were considerate of my home and my family, polite, courteous as well as very professional. I should have asked her first, however I did have the advantage of finding and bringing home 25+ flooring samples before visiting Floor Store and Design-Point Loma. What surprised me about working with Josh and Door Store and Design? I thought Josh was a salesman.. He was much more than that. He was hands on in working out details of installation. One example: I found a baseboard I liked at another place, and Josh was able to order that for me at same price as offerings at his store. He also made a personal visit at end of work to check details before I made the final payment. I also had new doors installed, and Josh coordinated work with the door contractor for smoothest completion of floors, doors and baseboards installation. Floor installer Jonathon and team were great ... always showing up on time, cleaning as they went, and were friendly and easy to have around. Most important.. they were perfectionists in their work. Josh's installers obviously take great pride in their work and Josh also takes great pride in managing Floor Store and Decor-Point Loma.
