Best "dollar slice" in Manhattan. Was the first to raise prices to $1.50 which made them a less popular choice for awhile but now all of the other slice shops have followed suit. It's by no means great pizza but at least they use real sauce and cheese unlike the other dollar shops. They're open late, quick and efficient, the people working are curt but nice, and I believe you can even pay with card now? I had cash on me but I saw they had a card reader, although unsure if there's a surcharge and/or minimum order for using card. Decent selection of sodas as well. I went to this place hoping for two decent cheese slices, but was instead left with an horrible experience. The pizza I received was served soggy and it did not taste all that well. I love 2 Bros (and every other dollar-fifty slice place) as much as any other indecisive cost-conscious New Yorker. Some of them are much better than others and some of them are 'less better' than the rest. But the guys who work here are, let's just say, very unprofessional: running out of pizza at 10:30pm because they "close at 11pm" but then they stand here eating and drinking and urinating and catcalling until 1am, using the 'closed' storefront as their hangout until 1am (!!!). read more

I had a very dear friend visiting NYC for the first time and one of her requests was a cheese slice that NY is so well known for. I am in East Village pretty often and had stopped in many times before for a late night slice on St Marks Place. This establishment is no frills...especially at night when they close the inside and you are not able to sit. But that is no problem as there is a countertop adjacent to the cash register that you can lean on and it has all the spices/seasonings that people like to put on their pizzas. I knew that this was the place to bring her. We were having dinner nearby at a nice place and I also remembered that 2BROS are open pretty late so the timing was actually perfect. There was no line and I just went in. Just a couple of people at the counter closes to the entrance. There was a displace with other slices like chicken and other toppings but we were not there for anything fancy. I asked for a plain slice which was approximately $2 and the employee promptly got the pizza and I paid. We turned to go lean against the counter and she proceeded to put some spice seasoning and white pepper on her pizza and took a bite. She look so happy and savored every bite. She seemed to enjoy the pizza more so than the food at the restaurant we had dined at just before. This was the simple pleasure and NY experience she was looking for and it made smile (and hungry) to see her enjoying the slice. I was tempted to snag a bit of her pizza but I wanted her to enjoy the whole slice because this is a common slice for those who live here. Depending on how late it is, there may be some seedy individuals around or rowdy people. Luckily there was neither when we were there and the staff was diligent. I came in on my own at an hour where the store was completely empty save for a single employee. The pizza was perfectly fine. It was a dollar so no complaints: size wise was a good portion and was better than other $1-2 slices I've had. The sauce was a little tangy and the crust was thick so if that's your preference you'll enjoy it though I imagine if you're coming here for a slice you're not really going for enjoyment sake, just necessity. The reason for my low rating is because of the service. I got my pizza quickly and all that but I found the employee's behavior very unprofessional and somewhat prying. He invited me to sit at the indoor seating at the back of the store which I had thought was out of courtesy so I would not have to stand but later realized it was so he could ask me a series of highly inappropriate questions. "Do you have no friends?" I was on my own so that's where the presumption came from likely and I took it as a joke so I wasn't offended by it. I shouldn't have entertained it by responding but I did because I had thought he was only being friendly. He then asked me where I worked, if I lived in the area, what time I got off work, what my name was, suggested I don't work too hard because I wouldn't have time for my boyfriend (which revealed his intentions all along because I obviously had not insinuated a boyfriend since I didn't really answer him), asked if I HAD a boyfriend, then asked if I wanted a boyfriend and if I would have him as a partner. I just left at that point. Man I was just trying to eat my pizza in peace lol.
