There's nothing wrong with this place. I've been coming here for years, mainly passing through on my motorcycle, stopping on the way back from Sturgis, meeting up to go riding in the hills, whatever. It's a great place to hang out, drink some beers, bullshit with friends, meet new people. I live in Sacramento now, but it's always been a stop. It's a local spot, nothing special about it but it's a great dive. Has a couple pool tables, a good juke box, and they have live music at night. Check it out. It's a fun place. read more

California Club could be the granddaddy of dive bars. It is that old, worn, and outdated. It's like the bar that time forgot! If you're a dive bar lover, you need to check it out. The walls are decorated with old posters, yellowing black and white photos, an aging rotary dial telephone, and of course dusty beer signs. The bar top faux wood, chipped in places, and well worn. Even the pool tables look old! If it didn't have flat screen TVs and modern beer it would be like a trip to the 1970s. Without the disco music though. The bartenders are great and friendly with customers. The crowd is super chill and routinely brings their dogs inside. I hope this place never changes. read more

The beautiful sign brought me here :) I saw the California Club sign on Instagram years ago before I knew it was in Auburn CA and also before I knew Auburn was so close to Sacramento! I visited my cousin in Sac a few weekends ago and she joined me on this travel wishlist adventure to the California Club. This was also my first visit to an actual bar -sitting inside on barstools at the bar-in over a year . What a cool old school place ! It is what it is -a bar, a full bar-you can get any liquor imaginable-a friendly bartender and friendly locals to talk to . They also have a pool table and you can buy chips , peanuts, gum, and candy from the bar as well. My cousin and I really enjoyed our time here. So i was bar hopping most of the day going from bar to bar buying drinks and i decide to walk into cali club to play music on the touchtunes jukebox and get a malibu rum and coke and when i go to close out, my card declines because my bank declined it for fraud and she belittled me and acted like i was some criminal and didnt care at all even after showing her on my phone that i had 2 grand in my account. Luckily there was a awesome guy that was way nicer then the bartender that helped pay for my drinks. When i fixed my bank finally and told her she didnt care and acted all snooty. This behavior is not professional and certainly not in her job description. Its unacceptable behavior. If your going to act like that dont work with people. Dont go here or atleast dont go here when theres a grey haired older female bartender working there that shift. read more

Visited this bar after a wonderful meal at Carpe Vino. Fun vibe and great prices. Unfortunately they ran my bar tab up and then became hostile when I asked the bartender to justify how I ordered 15 drinks in 45 minutes. They accused me of being wasted and told me to just pay my bill and leave. I had two cocktails, the first paid for by my friend and a second later, which is the one I used my credit card for. Blatant abuse. UPDATE: After speaking with my friends, I figured out this bars scam. There were five of us in our group as well as four others from a group we met at Carpe Vino. Everyone ordered drinks and paid for them as they ordered them. As stated I then gave them my credit card at the end of the night after I ordered my second drink of the night. When I closed out 45 minutes later, they had put all the drinks (that had already been paid for) on my card and claimed that I gave it to them when we first arrived and that I said to put everyone's drinks on my tab. Worst bar ever. The bartenders will up charge you with out asking. I ordered a well drink with their house gin and they gave me the premium gin with out asking. Not that anyone who works at The California Club would be reading this...but I will never step foot in this establishment again. Frankly, we should've known better from our first negative experience more than 5 years ago. Looks like things don't change much around there. The bartender (woman) was rude from the moment we walked in the door. We were excited to have a drink after the wine and food festival with longtime friends and go to an actual bar, being that the kids were at home. She decided to card us (flattering yes, but ultimately annoying) after we were deciding what to order. One friend didn't have her ID, which I understand the bartender should check...however, when you are 36 and obvisiously don't look under 21, it is a bit overkill. I am pretty sure she carded everyone just because she didn't want us in there. Why? Not sure...maybe we didn't fit in with the clientele at the time. She then prompltly rolled her eyes at us when we tried to make a joke and walked away and sputtered some rude comment at the same time. We were nothing but nice from the beginning, so this is unacceptable. I can forgive the whole ID thing but not the intentions rude behavior to customers. Great sign outside. Old historic building in old Auburn. Two pool tables with new felt. Live music on weekends. Sounds good? I ordered a Double Jack on the rocks. $10.50 for an extremely weak pour with a lot of ice. I didn't watch the pour on the first drink unfortunately. We obviously were not locals to the bartender. When I lived in the area 10 years ago, this place was a locals hangout, but the not local "foodie" local. Not sure if it still is because we were there rather early in the evening. We kept getting the "stink eye" from one local at the end of bar or maybe he was looking at our wives boobs. Can't say that I blame him. Anyway decided to try them for one more "Double" and counted her pour. Shot and a half at best. I won't go back. West Roseville sticks to my neighborhood dive bars. First and foremost, this is a dive bar. There are some reviews here from people who obviously have been in their ivory tower too long and just need to stay up there. It's a bar. You will be carded and on busy nights there will probably be a bouncer. Instead of whining about being carded or not having your ID, consider it a compliment and that they are just doing their jobs so they can stay in business. ATF has all sorts of sneaky ways to bust these guys so just shut up and show your ID so they can pour you a drink. Sorry... rant over, review coming up. Yes... it's a dive bar. There are no waiters. There isn't a coat check. No valet parking. If you come in expecting to be waited on hand and foot, you will be disappointed at best. At worst you will be ignored, laughed at, or generally made to feel uncomfortable. The bartenders are not there to be your best friend. They are there to pour you a drink and that's about it. The clientele is a bit of a mixed bag. It's a hangout bar and middle class people with kids at home are not going to be chilling here after work until midnight. There are often people smoking outside and the boys can get a little loud but I don't think I've even felt unsafe or threatened. There is a digital jukebox (which is often too loud as most nights the bar is pretty quiet) and a couple of pool tables. I think there's a dart board as well. On the weekends they often have a live band on their small stage. It can get quite loud and very rowdy in their on these nights. There's a small patio area out back but it's often full of smokers. Bathrooms are small and a bit worn but serviceable enough. I'd go here again and I'd recommend you go as well if you are looking for a place to grab a drink and just hang out for a bit. If you want high class and a bit more friendly atmosphere head across the street to the Auburn Alehouse. AND BRING YOUR ID... IT'S A BAR! read more

I started going here just a couple of months ago and my service dog and I were always welcome until about two weeks ago when I met a friend there on a Saturday and the bartender refused to serve me. She told me I needed to take my dog to the back patio which is a small unventilated smoking area on a day that's a hundred degrees outside. I showed her my dogs tags proving he was a registered service dog and her response was, " I have the right to refuse service so it's Apple to oranges". As a disabled person, I have a legal right to take my dog into any place and be treated as anyone else! I'll never step back into this place again and I challenge all disabled individuals to go there and together fight legally for discrimination. We'll see who has the right to be served! Ahhh this is the last dive bar in old town Auburn. I have gone here many times and had a lot of great times. I am not big on bars and have only been to a handful, this is the only BAD experience. Actually this is the only review ive ever wrote! The "bouncer" and his wife (the bar tender) we're completely irrational and offensive with how they treated us. Bouncer (who was twise my brothers age) for some reason started provoking him, getting confrontational when he didn't want to play a game of pool for $20.. My brother, who didnt START the drama, got pissed and asked the guy what his problem was. Was going to be a fight so I got between them and he knocked my drink out of my hand witch only made my bro more mad. They kicked us out and made him look like a foolish trouble maker when all we wanted to do was have a good time and catch up. I was honestly SHOCKED!! Last St Patty's day my brother and his friend were attacked by the bartender at this bar. Apparently my brothers friend and the bartender were getting into a heated debate about something- my brother tried to get them to calm down and was hit in the face. Then the bartender jumped over the bar and kneed him in the jaw. The bartender then turned to his friend and then hit him. The DA's office investigated the incident because the police said the bartender used excessive force. Don't patronize this bar unless your idea of a good time is a fractured jaw, broken cheekbone and expensive medical bills. PS I have to give this bar one star to post this review. read more
