This all-you-can-eat Sushi joint is legit. I've been coming here for quite some time now. This time it was a girls night out and we indulged. During the weekends, it can get a bit busy, so I suggest making reservations like we did. We only waited for about 5-10 mins while they cleared and cleaned a table for us. This restaurant is one of the bigger sushi spots in town and they also have a private dining room for larger parties. The vibe here is pretty chill and they play music in the background. It's a fun atmosphere. This is a very reasonable spot for AYCE. The service here is great, our server was friendly and attentive. She kept our beers and sake full throughout dinner. We started with some appetizers: edamame, mussels, and yakitori. All very delicious! Then we moved on to Nigiri: the hamachi here is delicious, tasted fresh and melted in your mouth. But the Cajun Salmon, this is fire. I could literally eat those all day. The flavor is absolutely delicious. A must try if you've never had it before. You'll be hooked. They come with fish eggs, but you can always omit. The upside down shrimp is so good too. The Mickey and Minnie were bomb. And then there were quail egg shooters, if you're into that. My best friend loves these and she really likes the ones at this spot. We ordered a handful of rolls, but Tha Joint and Tha Five-O are my favorites. The rolls here are very flavorful, big, and filling. AYCE is the best so you try different rolls and share. The hot sake here is delicious, but if you're into cold flavored sake, their mango and strawberry sake is super tasty too. Overall, it was a great dinner with delicious food, and wonderful service. I wanted AYCE sushi for my birthday, and a buddy recommended this place. I had intended on going to a place down the street, but I trusted his judgement and went here. Glad I did. This is now my favorite AYCE sushi place in Reno/Sparks...lemme tell you why. Location - it's in South Reno, close to my home. The building - an unassuming exterior hides a spacious, well decorated space with cool music. (ie rock tunes from my high school and early 20s) seriously, every other sushi place makes me practically elbow to elbow with strangers, so having a little breathing room is nice! I can stretch out and enjoy my space without being intruded on. THE WAIT STAFF - All caps because these folks were amazing, attentive, polite, perfectly chatty, and made us feel welcome. The food - clearly what made me most happy here. Now I will say it wasn't perfect, which always concerns me because most of these places say they'll charge you for whatever you don't finish. And while this place has the same policy, the wait staff told me "don't force yourself to eat something you don't like. If you try it and make an effort, we totally understand if you don't want to eat it." Yet another reason I dig the wait staff. They're awesome! That being said, the only two things I didn't like was the ceviche appetizer, because it had no acid, no spice, no kick. Tasting like mostly cucumber and water, it left me wanting the real thing. Also, the deep fried cooked roll I had tasted STRONGLY of fish. Like pungently so. The wait staff told me "don't worry, we don't like that one either. And word of advice, don't order the cooked rolls late in the day, because they're prepped early, and sit in the fridge all day until eaten." They told me ordering them for lunch would be a better bet. Everything else I tried here was amazing. Crazy chicken appetizer, basically a better version of sweet and sour chicken. Gyoza, soft and pillowy, but ALSO crispy and delicious, with flavorful filling. Miso soup was perfectly seasoned. Yakiton had a bit too much sauce on it for my liking, but was cooked perfectly and had a good tasting filling. Nagiri had nice big slices of fish on it. My two favorite rolls are definitely tha BLC and tha Highway. Oh, and they have a green habanero mayo sauce you HAVE to try. Spicy, creamy, tangy, rich, and a perfect addition to the typical Sriracha, wasabi, and soy people normally use for a accoutrement. I found myself craving the spicy creamy tang more than soy sauce, more than Sriracha. I definitely want to go back to this place. We came in for a late lunch and there was a small crowd. We were seated pretty quickly and our server arrived within a minute. We did AYCE and each ordered at least two rolls. I ordered Spider, Tha Shiznit, and The Cookster. The spider was OK and I enjoyed The Shiznit a lot! I would say that was my favorite of all the rolls I ordered. The Cookster was my least favorite and probably will not be ordering again. I've had deep fried sushi before and The Cookster was just on the extra crispy side LOL! Soooooo this place came highly recommended. And to say the least, it disappointed. I mean it wasn't bad at all. All pretty decent tasting, but to put it plainly I wouldn't go back. Not to mention, it felt as if the service for worse from the minute we sat down. We were served promptly, and then once we received our first order of all you can eat sushi, that was it. We weren't attended much after that. Our quick 1 hour lunch turned almost into a whole 2 hour lunch because we waited so long for our second serving, not to mention another 20 minutes for our check. Side bar, the waitresses and hostess were all very nice. They seemed to be very busy and they were doing their best, I just write a 3 star review in hopes that the owner maybe gives them more help. First time at 2 Tha Joint. We arrived at 7:45 for dinner and it was half full. Between my daughter and I, we ordered four rolls and two iced teas. In all it came to $47.64 plus tip. Our rolls didn't arrive for 15 mins but once they did, yum! My daughter got a Spicy Tuna and a Twister whilst I got a BLC and an Escape. But my complaint is we want to call it that is that so many things in the menu included raw jalapeños or habanero sauces. Alas, my first time back at an AYCE sushi restaurant since sheltering began and my diet took a complete 180. My partner took me here to try since he knew they had some veggie friendly options and a good selection of nigiri. I love sushi and was eager to see what this spot was all about. 2 Tha Joint is a prison-themed restaurant and the interior definitely gave me club vibes. Tables were spaced out but because they don't offer outdoor dining, it really will be up to your comfort level eating inside. Fortunately, we were seated in the private room with only one other patron so I was good. For lunch, their $20 AYCE includes nigiri, rolls, and dessert. We don't normally get dessert included in California so I was pretty surprised. Sadly none of the options are dairy-free so if you are vegan, you will need to settle for something sweet elsewhere. - Rolls - My favorite was hands down the "Sexy House Wife," which was cooked scallops, pepper powder, greens, and topped with yellowtail. It contained little additional sauce and the flavors were packed. This is likely one of their healthier rolls that doesn't rely on sauces or deep-frying anything to make it delicious. - Nigiri - These were all okay. I love my salmon nigiri but the salmon here just did not pack the flavor that I wanted. Other fishes were also decent but I've had better nigiri at other buffets. Still, the rice to fish ratio was fair here so I give them a plus for that. To my fellow plant-based eaters out there, they do offer 6-7 veggie rolls as part of their buffet. Only one is vegan but I'm sure you can ask to sub-out an ingredient or two to possibly make it so. Although I appreciate my partner taking me here because they had options, nearly all the rolls had fried ingredients which is something I try to avoid. Remember, just because it's vegetarian or vegan, doesn't necessarily mean it's healthy. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here with my first AYCE experience in months. I just wish there were more rolls that I could enjoy without something being fried or doused in sauce. It was a great thing altogether and the service was fast and great. I really loved the calamari and The Boss roll. Really unique roll and had a spicy flavor. We came to eat after years of now coming and now we remeber why we stopped. The food is great the service is awful. Our family sat here for at least 30 minutes I asked where our server was and they said she went on break. Okay so no one thought to check on the table while she was gone? How wild. This is my first time eating at this place and I have to say, there is better sushi in the area. The parking lot was adequate and we were seated right away on a Thursday night at 7 pm. The service was quick and we were in and out within an hour. Overall pricing for two AYCE meals was $67 plus tip. The rolls had too much sauce for my liking and the overall feel of the restaurant made me feel like I was in a bar rather than a sushi restaurant. However when they pick 2 tha joint, I always know I'll have enough food to even bring home leftovers! The most recent time I went I got the spicy chicken skewers which were super spicy. The waitress asked me if I wanted the sauce on the side as it was very spicy and I said yes. Thank goodness I did!! Way too spicy for me. I asked for a side of teriyaki as well and that was much better for me. The chicken was a little on the dry side. It also came with rice and grilled asparagus which was bomb. In addition to an entree I also always get the wanted roll which is a vegetarian roll made with cream cheese, lemon, some friend veggies, avocado and mango sauce. I love this roll!!! Wow! Yes, yes, and more yes! Coming from the East Coast where sushi is very very fresh and readily available, this place is great and comparable to what we enjoy most. This location had a great selection which included a lot of spicy options as well. We were seated immediately when we came in even though the restaurant was very busy. Drinks came out quick, our server knew the menu very well and was able to help make some recommendations on some of the newer-to-us options they had. This sushi place has always been our number one. My fiancé and I had our first date here years ago and keep coming back. We currently live in Spanish Springs and the drive down is 100% worth it. If you go when they open, the staff will be SUPER fast about getting your rolls out. We always do all you can eat and it is pricey, but average. I would skip appetizers if you're not too tempted by any of them. Tha Angry Bird (fried chicken w/ hot sauce) was pretty dry :( so nothing to rave about. Go right to the sushi and nigiri! Salmon nigiri was fresh and generous! I prefer hand rolls so I can order a greater variety while my partner likes long rolls. All the sushi we ordered was really good, so up to your preferences on which to order, but my favorites were Tha Outlaw and Tha Joint! Partner's favorite was Tha Sin City. Finished off by sharing a chocolate mochi, which was ready to eat when served (instead of having to wait for the mochi to thaw and soften). Not sure which AYCE sushi place to eat at? Here's a solid, reliable option that consistently delivers on quality. I ordered the yellowtail, unagi, tuna, salmon, and three rolls (Hitman, Escape, Sin City). The unagi was a standout. The rolls were good but too heavy for my taste - they fill you up QUICK! I'll only be ordering nigiri the next time I go. Like others mentioned, I wish they offered outdoor dining in response to COVID. Personally, the seating arrangement inside was a little too cramped for comfort. I visited on a Friday night, and it was PACKED with people sitting in large groups next to each other. I'm sure they have safety protocols in place, but I'll pass for now. It took about 40 minutes for my order to be prepared. Well the concept is there but it's going to be a no for me. The service is lacking... we went on a Sunday and they were very slow to provide service and totally ignored our table the majority of the time. The waiter dropped a portion of our order on the floor and told us he would have it remade but never did. We never had our water refilled until I requested it after waiting FOREVER! They have some fun themed offerings but the quality of fish isn't there. Which leads me to believe their storage and care of food isn't good. We ordered the sexy house wife and it tasted like canned tuna... not sexy at all! Especially since that roll doesn't contain cooked tuna... it's supposed to be scallops. The albacore nigiri was so dry and fishy that I gagged on it and had to spit it out. Some of the rolls were okay but the tempura shrimp was undercooked and mushy. We then proceeded to try to order mochi for dessert and it took like 15 minutes to bring it out when it came out it was super runny and hard to eat. Their bathroom was foul... smelled of urine (probably hold it). I'm disappointed all around. Oh and on the muscles my kid ended up getting a huge chunk of sharp pointy shell in his mouth and it hurt him. The location sucks too. read more

I hate experiences like this to where I have to rate so low. I'm incredibly disappointed with service here and now I understand why Tokyo Sushi was full and 2 Tha Joint wasn't. Originally I went to Tokyo sushi and no one did I have trouble finding parking, but there was a 20 min wait. So I drove around the corner to Tha joint. To my surprise, plenty of parking and it was pretty empty. I was seated at the bar, and was asked what I would like to drink. I ordered water with lemon. After being seated, the sushi chefs messed around, crap taking to each other in front of another couple sitting just a couple seats away. I had been sitting there for over 10 minutes before I was asked what I would like to order for an appetizer. I ordered a Yankton. I also asked if I could order tha misfit and tha wing man. Some more messing around went on and another chef came over. He asked what I wanted, a good while later and I mentioned I had already ordered 2 rolls and was just waiting on it. He consulted with the other 2 chefs messing around and it had been sitting on the counter. He handed it to me not to long after. Frustrated, I was already contemplating leaving. The restaurant was not busy mind you. There was 1 semi large table, 2 small tables and then me and 1 couple at the bar. Easily more staff members than guests. I chose to stay, eat and I ordered 2 more rolls. This is probably 30 mins into service. I was given my Yankton at this time, and attempted to make small talk with her chef serving me. I noticed he mainly spoke Spanish and being a fluent Spanish speaker, I asked how his day was going. He said it was going good but did not engage in any other conversation. He walked away to play cards and I tried to get someone's attention several times to order another roll, but ended up asking for the check, paid and left. There is no way I will spend $30 for AYCE sushi when I can pay less elsewhere, get better service and be treated better in general. I'm not really sure what prompted us to try this sushi place, but for whatever reason, we found ourselves here on a Saturday night. AYCE sushi in Reno tends to be the same no matter where you go, so for me, I'm constantly on the hunt for the places that offer really great nigiri as part of the AYCE menu. And by really great, I'm looking for places that offer lots of diversity in fish that you don't normally see on an AYCE nigiri menu like yellowtail, red snapper, octopus, and mackerel. I'm still amazed at how many of them include cream cheese, tempura, and/or are baked. Those just aren't for me. Again... I'm here for raw fish. We went with the rainbow roll (because that's always a good option to get a little bit of everything) and Tha Highway. I ordered a boatload of nigri (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, eel, octopus, mackerel, red snapper... and then some!) and my husband ordered Tha Escape and Tha Highway as hand rolls. To finish we enjoyed the tempura banana with green tea ice cream. I found the atmosphere to be odd. This isn't a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant atmosphere at all. Overall it definitely appeals to a younger crowd with modern pop/hip-hop/rap music (that isn't too loud) and a weird prison theme that's kind of entertaining and punny. I think? We've been to 5 or 6 sushi/Asian fusion restaurants since moving here, this has by far been the best. Tons of sushi choices (truth be told only had one I didn't care for- lemon accents- not a lemon zest sushi fan). The Epic High and The Whole 9 Yards were two of my favorite. The Funky Chicken was an unexpected hit (never expected chicken in sushi to be good). The appetizers were all so well made- the calamari, the angry chicken, mussels, and the yakiton.
