My friends and I came here for Sunday brunch. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and we were seated in a quiet private area. We were a little disappointed that the lunch menu was not offered on a Sunday, so we settled for brunch. I ordered an omelette with poblano, mushroom, and spinach. The order came with a side of roasted potatoes and toast. I was pleased with my dish. The food quality was very good, but service was extremely slow. It took our server over 30 minutes to finally take our orders. We were a party of 8, which wasn't too big. Food for everyone came out at a decent time; however, they must've forgotten my dish because I had to wait a good 10 minutes while my friends already received their food. The server never refilled our water cups and it took forever for him to bring our check.

TLDR: clean, casual spot conveniently located inside the Westin Carlsbad, decent service, indoor/outdoor seating. Dinner and most breakfast items are average and overpriced, but the build-your-own omelette is surprisingly good and worth ordering. We stayed at the Westin and found this restaurant right downstairs, which was super convenient, especially since we had breakfast vouchers from the hotel ($22 per person). The space is clean, airy, and has a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff were friendly, though service varied depending on who you got. We stopped by for some light bites one evening and ordered fries, crab cakes, and drinks. Fries were very average, 2/5, and crab cakes were big, just not memorable. Drinks were fine, nothing stood out. For breakfast, day one was a bit disappointing. I had the All-American breakfast, which came with eggs, meat, roasted potatoes, and toast, small portions, and pricey for what you get (2.5/5). My husband's waffle was nearly $20 and just okay, though the jam and granola with yogurt were nice touches. Day two, we both ordered the build-your-own omelette, and that turned things around; it was fresh, flavorful, and much more satisfying. If you eat here, skip the basics and go straight for the omelette.

We opted for the outdoor seating area which offers a nice nearby-ocean breeze compare to the strong AC blasting indoor. Service was slow for breakfast but it could be just our table as I saw others were served much faster than us. Our son's cereal and milk which I wouldn't think need much time to prepare were served after we had already gotten our food. For our food, we got the following: Portobello egg Benedict (4/5)- love that they have this option available for those who do not want English muffins/bread. The eggs were made to perfection and we really liked the flavor earthy of the mushroom and nice balance from the spinach. They could use a bit less oil though... the dish comes with roasted potato which wasn't bad but nothing to rave about. Lox & Bagel (1.5/5) - highly disappointed when the bagel came out. It was nicely assembled but that was it. It was served on a huge plate with just half a bagel and salmon (lox) and fixing on top. Nothing else. We appreciate the generous portion of the lọx but the bagel itself was terrible - my husband called it "hard as a rock" when he took his first bite. We had a hard time cutting it into smaller pieces to eat. It was barely toasted and the bread itself looks like it's undercooked and is extremely dense. I wish they serve it with some veggies on the side, for the meal balance and also the presentation. For our morning elixirs, my husband got the Green Monster (4/5) and I got the Kale-ifornia (5/5) Both are great drinks to start our day. I love my Kale-ifornia, earthy, clean and ends with a kick at the end with the gingery note after each sip. It has a juice consistency, while the Green Monster is more of a smoothie. Unfortunately Green Monster came out warm so that kind of killed the vibe and the taste. It would be 5/5 if it was cold. Also keep in mind they only offer coffee when we were there for breakfast, no latte or cappuccino. We had breakfast at 7 Mile kitchen next door the day before and they did offer other coffee drinks so it was another disappointment with 20|Twenty.

Pillow talk

We were staying across the parking lot at another hotel, but went each night for a nightcap. Kristina made the best drinks I have ever had, an espresso martini & a drink she created herself that she called "Pillow talk". Would definitely go back anytime we are in San Diego

Ambience is super super modern, fancy and appealing to the eye. The food was absolutely delicious although it took a lot longer than expected it was totally worth the wait!!! The bullseye steak was sooo good it was one of the best steaks I've ever had juicy, thick, crispy, yummy in my tummy. The mash also absolutely delicious, makes me hungry all over again just thinking about it!! This was my families and I first time but Will definitely be back soon, we have to try there breakfast too! To mention they have free parking right across with a ton of parking very convenient!

Tuna Ceviche

The food isn't good @ all. We ordered the ceviche and carding Caesar salad. They were not good @ all, especially for the price. The ceviche is $25 and honestly it was one of the worst ceviche I've ever had. I mean, who puts banana chips in a Ceviche? It just doesn't go. And the salad was.... Eh. The dressing was terrible. Nothing special about for $15. However the drinks were good. Nice bar area. But that's it. Don't think we would go back. Which is too bad because it is a very nice resort but the food has to be up to par. Not ok to charge so much for food.

5 stars for our experience on Saturday with our bartender, Matt! So fun and great at making cocktails. We had such a wonderful time and loved what we ordered: - (2) black smokes - (2) empress me's - (1) cocktail Carlsbad - (1) chicken tender plate Food pricing is what you'd expect for a hotel restaurant/bar, loved the tenders. The drinks were so carefully crafted and very instgrammable. Highly recommend this bar, look for Matt!

My friend and I were celebrating and wanted to try a bunch of menu items, and when we ordered, our server kindly suggested that it was going to be a lot of food. We just laughed and said we understood but wanted everything anyway. Totally worth it! The cocktails are delicious and definitely pack a punch and their wine list has excellent by-the-glass options. We got: - cornbread: 10/10 this was fantastic. Great for 2-4 people. Perfectly balanced flavors and dense. - broccoli: 10/10 I'm not going to lie, I read the reviews about the broccoli, and literally asked my husband if we were going to spend $20 on a whole head of broccoli. I was very skeptical to believe this was actually so good, but it was! The textures are really great; the florets are crunchy and the stem is a soft almost buttery texture. The flavors with the nuts and sauce are fantastic. It's a lot for 2 people, and would be ideal for 4 people to share. - market fish 12/10. The best thing we ate, wow it was so good. Every staff member I asked said this was their favorite dish, so of course, I ordered it. The fish was a steelhead trout. It was cooked perfectly, and the sauce, mushrooms, salmon roe, and kale perfectly complemented the dish. The portion is great! It's 6.5 oz, so easy to share. I would come back just for this. - chicken 8/10. This is a good bbq chicken, but it's just good bbq chicken. Nothing special, but tasty nonetheless. I only had a bite since I'm mostly pescatarian, but my husband gladly ate the whole thing. The dining experience is also great! The ambience is beautiful, but the inside is quite loud. We sat by the open door in the back, which was great. I'd either sit in the back again or try to sit outside because of the noise. The service was spot on. Heads up that they do charge a 4% surcharge, which is also taxed.

Same Same, but Different? Not Quite…read more Hiya B.U.M.S., We recently decided to check out Same Same, hoping for an experience that was delightfully different. Our order for the night? The Thai-style New York steak, Khao Soi curry, and larb lettuce cups--all paired with a custom-crafted, half-Cranberry, half-Sprite. Before we even tasted the food, we almost ended up eating next door. The entrances are a bit of a maze, leaving us standing outside having a mini identity crisis about where we actually wanted to dine. Ultimately, we stayed the course and chose Same Same. The Larb Lettuce Cups: As a massive larb fan, I was hyped. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat. My wife officially dubbed it "lackluster." While the ground beef was seasoned and the lettuce was beautifully crisp, when the lettuce is the undisputed star of your larb, it might be time to reevaluate the recipe. The Yellowtail Ceviche: To recover from the larb disappointment, my wife ordered the ceviche. It was a step up, but for a Thai spot, it was missing that signature kick. It really needed a handful of jalapeños to wake it up. In fact, nothing on the table was truly spicy until I deployed their house chili oil. The Khao Soi Curry: This was the absolute hero of the night! It completely saved the meal. It was rich and delicious, and it paired unexpectedly well with our New York steak--even though the kitchen served it well-done instead of our requested medium-rare. As dinner went on, it became pretty clear that this spot might cater a bit more to the happy hour and drinking crowd, especially considering my Cranberry-Sprite mix was arguably the most flavor-packed thing on the table. That said, the service was fantastic. The staff members were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Pro-Tip: If you're ordering more than two items, do not let them seat you at the tiny tables for two. It's a high-stakes game of food Tetris you will not win. On the bright side, they earned major bonus points for boxing up our leftovers for us. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel like every restaurant should still offer that level of hospitality! Overall, I'd say give it a shot if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a cool atmosphere, but I wouldn't rush off your couch to get there.

The grilled artichoke was popular, but it's not going to fill anyone up. I'd get it again.. The steakhouse dinner brings some fancy aged steaks, with a traditional wood-grilled char and smoke. It's really flavorful steak, and you'd be missing out if you didn't go a little feral on the bone. I find they tend to cook a bit further than other steakhouses, with a medium-rare NY Strip looking well into a Medium. It might be the aging or the fire-grill, but there was no pink left in there, and the ends were pretty dry. Look, I'm never going to kick this off my plate, but maybe order much less cooked than you would at Ruth's, okay? The sides are really nice, fresh, hot, but Small. If you're coming in hungry, they're only going to serve two as a side. There is no baked potato, but their gratin is rich with truffle and flavor. Worthy of the steak. Shrimp Scampi: 3 shrimp ($19). Baked oysters: 5 shells. All odd numbers? If you come here expecting to share equally with two people, prepare for battle. The dessert banana-foster cheesecake was terrific.. 5/5, easily enough for two. Service is impeccable, well-coordinated, with perfect timing. The calamari and rock shrimp were soft and crunchy. The batter was flavorful but subtle and the marinara sauce tied it altogether. We loved the filet mignon carpaccio. It was tender and rich. The cheese, capers and arugula provided a great balance to this dish. For our entree, we had the spaghetti portofino, Pappardelle con funghi e Capesente and Cappellaci di Manzo. When our food came we could not believe how huge their portions are. One entree is equal to 2 entrees and it makes sense because the price is up there. The Portofino, had huge amount variety of seafood and the scallop and jumbo prawn stood out which was placed on top of the dish. Wish they did have more spaghetti, but we were happy with it. All the seafood was cooked perfectly. Soft and tender and the pesto sauce was more like a little bit of marinara and pesto. The Parpadelle was cooked with just the right texture and the different types mushroom had full of Umami flavors. You can tell they make their own pasta. The 2 huge scallops in the sides were cooked just right, tender and just delicious! This was to die for. The Carpellaci was amazing!!! The hat-pasta was full of braised prime short rib and the porcini cream sauce with aged asiago and black truffles really excelled this dish. The sauce was creamy and just bursting with great flavors. All of these dishes were outstanding!!! Ofcourse none of us finished our entree. We were stuffed half way. We were not disappointed!!! We had plenty of leftovers. I recall it being a delicious and a wonderful dining experience. I have been looking forward to bringing my family and friends here all week. I am giving this restaurant 3 stars, because their food is still AMAZING and their staff is super nice and I believe deep down inside that they just had a REALLY OFF night. We had reservations for a party of 9 last night. The table was set up nicely and accommodated a few extra if needed, which I thought was cool. We started with some adult beverages: an Old Fashion, some Hotel Nacionals, a Fashionably Late, and a couple of beers. Everything started great. Dennis, our server was very cool and friendly and gave great suggestions. We ordered the mac and cheese sides and they were delicious with huge pieces of savory bacon in them. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which we never received and didn't even realize it until the very end when we received the bill because of all the other issues we had... but we'll get to that in a moment. But let's talk about what did go well... the delicious food we did get. We ordered the Pig burger which was sooo good and came with crispy fries. The fish for the fish and chips were 2 huge pieces and were delicious, came with yummy seasoned waffle fries and the tiniest tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I had to request 4 more for that amount of fish, but no big deal. Dennis brought out as much as we needed. Their ranch sauce is really good too. Don't judge just because it's a little peachy'ish and looks thousand island'ish. lt's still some very good ranch. My son said he really tasted the bitterness of beer in the fish batter but maybe it was just in that piece he had; I could not taste it in the piece of fish I ate. The short rib was really tender and delicious... the sauce was just a tad salty for my taste, but the mashed potatoes it sat on sort of balanced it out a little. The fried chicken thighs were really cooked well, juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. We ordered two Teres Major steaks. One rare with mashed potaoes, one medium rare with grits. The rare one came out medium and without any mushrooms, took FOREVEEERR to remake (the rest of the table was almost done with our meals...& not sure why it took so long since the restaurant wasn't that busy and it's a RARE steak). The one with grits came with mashed potatoes instead of grits. Dennis was super nice and apologetic and corrected both mistakes when we let him know. He then brought us a big bowl of grits. The manager (blonde gal) came over and apologized for the mistakes tonight, letting us know that usually does not happen, and let us know she'd be comping one of our steaks and would be bringing a dessert on them. We thought that was very nice of them. However, as nice a gesture. we never did receive that dessert. My husband handed Dennis his credit card before the bill arrived (before our friends could try to pay the bill) and not sure why but our bill never came, and we never saw Dennis again either after he boxed up our leftovers and took the card. We had to ask another server for our bill because we had been waiting for quite a while... and needed to head out as we were already late to meet friends at a lounge. The other server came back with my husband's credit card, the bill (that's when I finally noticed the brussel sprouts sides we never got but were charged), and let the server know. He immediately apologized and took it off the bill. So I'm not sure what happened last night at Flying Pig...missing and charged brussel sprouts, steak overcooked, missing mushrooms, mashed potatoes instead of grits, then a comped dessert promised but never delivered. WOW. I had to apologize to my friends. I was totally hyping up this place and it underdelivered. They automatically got their 20% gratuity for our party of 9 but anyone that knows me knows how much I absolutely love great service combined with exceptional food and that could have easily been a 30-35% tip had they been on their A game! We only come to Oceanside once a year. Maybe we will try again next year. Maybe not. This trip was about trying out a bunch of different restaurants and giving honest reviews on dishes/businesses we haven't tried before, or in a long time. Do better guys.
