We enjoyed our dinner, service was great. The menu was somewhat limited. Our entrees were delicious, sea bass and scollops. Highly recommended, my scallop entree came with two pieces of pork belly, and the brussel sprouts were really tasty. The sea bass entree came with mushroom and risotto. The location is pretty ... above the hilltop from LEGOLAND and the food was tasty and our server, Greg, was charming and helpful. The downside: the portions are too small for the price, the hostess was slow and unfriendly and parking wasn't easy or clarified. I KNOW staffing is hard these days and on a normal night this would have worked, but tonight there happened to be some conference here and they were woefully understaffed, although they were all hustling their butts off...but we sacrificed as they attended the group and not the 'little people'. I am a local and have been here for many lunches and dinners and events and never felt so over looked, but again, not their fault, wholly, in this climate. But literally had to wave my arms to flag down the manager to order a drink (bc our waitress, Summer, who was trying SO hard to keep up, was so overwhelmed) That said- only had cocktails, charcuterie and salad for two. Drinks were fab! Cali-fashioned, Kentucky Star, Oaxaca Style. Caesar was good. This spot in the Westin earns 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding down because I wouldn't seek it out unless I was staying in the hotel and wanted a convenient meal. THE GOOD: - Service was pleasant, no complaints. The waiter was helpful with recommending a cocktail for me when I couldn't decide between two options. - Patio seating is lovely and relaxing, and you can see a nice view of the sunset. This was a nice contrast to the interior of the bar area which was much louder due to a big crowd of people watching a baseball game. - My husband's rib eye was seared excellently and was tender and moist. The accompanying asparagus and sauce were all right, not the best balance. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: - My maple bacon cocktail was all right. The drink by itself was pretty good but not that memorable. I have been a regular at the Westin resort for many years now. My job requires multiple overnights, and this is my facility of choice. One of the many reasons that I enjoy the western is the friendliness of the staff as they have recognized me as a regular. One member of the staff is Lilia who serves as the hostess at the restaurant. She knows me by name and it's always a good feeling when she says good morning Gary. It's more like she invites me into her home rather than into a restaurant and she treats all of her guests the same way. No matter how great you resort is it is always important that your people, the ones that are in front of your clients, are equally up to the task and she is. Job well done read more

I had the opportunity to lunch at Twenty20 this weekend and boy it is a nicely done restaurant. It is important to note that this is located in the Sheraton Hotel in Carlsbad. The remote location gives Twenty20 a good customer base, there are no other restaurants within 5 minutes or on the hotel grounds. I would consider it pretty good as far as hotel dining is concerned. I don't usually share my Yelp math, but I will make an exception here because it is fundamental to this review. Facility: 5 stars Food: 2 stars Service: 3.5 stars Twenty20 therefor gets a 3.5 star rating, which is ok. They have some things to work out. The restaurant has an unobstructed 180 degree ocean view and nice decor with one of the fire/water features that look stunning at twilight. I loved the restaurant itself. The food on the other hand is nothing special. My husband got a french dip sandwich and he liked it. I was in the mood for a substantial salad and they were very accommodating and let me substitute the chicken and the bacon for shrimp on their cobb. The salad had 4 medium sized shrimp, which to me is stingy. The lettuce itself contained a lot of the white "bones" and was smothered in a dressing that tasted store bought. The charred corn were not plump and juicy and I was unimpressed. They took it away and i ordered fish tacos. The fish tacos were better, they use small portions of grilled cod in a soft tortilla. I would not order them again. Our waitress was a sweetheart, and she sent the floor manager over to ask about my salad. I told her about the meh corn, lettuce, dressing and shrimp in great detail as I sat waiting for my fish tacos. My husband had already finished his sandwich so the flow of our meal was greatly disrupted. We spent quite a bit of our meal chatting with management about ways to improve the food. We were not offered a glass of wine, appetizer or dessert for our inconvenience and ruined meal which they should have offered given the amount of time I spent giving them information. She then dissected my salad with the chef and returned to check on the tacos. She told me that the dressing was way too heavy but insisted that the corn was fresh. I am not sure if it is freshly grilled frozen corn or what, she must not have tasted it or she would never defend that corn. They have a new head chef in the restaurant who is learning the restaurant and intends to recreate the menu so I think that it will get better. I may come back and check it out again if I see some of my Yelp friends give it good reviews. read more

Twenty20 is an incredible restaurant. It's located right in the lobby of the Sheraton Carlsbad Hotel where I stayed for a week. The reason why I really enjoy this restaurant so much aside from the delicious reasonably priced food is the customer service. The customer service here is impeccable. The servers, hostesses, & busboys are beyond professional & sweet here. They know me by name & automatically give me my favorite booth. The staff here is patient, efficient, & all smiles. Thats another reason why I keep coming back here. Dinner is from 5PM to 10PM, Monday-Sunday. The dinner menu is not extensive but the executive chef Robert Carr did a great job featuring Tapas (small plates), Greens (salads), Sides, The Standards (entrees) & Flatbreads. I've had breakfast here, lunch & now dinner. There fresh baked bread is amazing. The butter is infused with garlic. I've had the Roasted Chicken Flatbread & Classic Caesar Salad. My Grandma, mom, and I went to the 20|Twenty restaurant for brunch the other day. We had a reservation and we were able to get an outside table. They must've had a wedding party from the day before because it was very busy and loud, but otherwise it was a nice atmosphere, minus all of the noise. The food was great, as was the service! I ordered a salmon breakfast and naively didn't realize that the salmon wasn't cooked, rather smoked. The waitress was very understanding and substituted my meal for something else, which came quick. Service was alright, we ordered food and waited 40 minutes for it to be served to us. We ordered dessert for our 16 yr old B-day and the waiter brought the dessert out right before we left. The waiter served it at our table lacking a candle. We did not think we would need to ask since we were celebrating one's birthday. A lot of the famous food had been revoked: such as lobster bison and squash soup. Food has changed since my family and I last visited (1 year ago) Brussel sprouts were dressed in maple syrup. Hotel dining with style. This place is inside the Sheraton Carlsbad Hotel. We were staying at a near by time share property and looking to have some apps and drinks with a nice ambience. This was the perfect place. They have this really cool fire pit thing out on their patio that creates an awesome sort of glow out there. It's perfect for a leisurely dinner. Our server was very stuffy, but not mean or anything - he just seemed to take the whole thing very very seriously and be very precise about everything. I thought he was sort of like a character from a movie. The custom cocktails that I had were really good. The Ruby something and then another drink that had orange in it. We had reservations made through open table for 5:45 reserved for outdoor seating. The hostess that assisted us appeared to have been very irritated checking us in. She made very little eye contact and seemed exasperated with us. She never even checked us in for open table which they sent me an email as we were marked as no shows. And she was asking if we wanted open seating which was in our reservation request. The dinner and waitress was wonderful and we would be willing to come back ( we are local to Carlsbad) but the hostess should be friendly and inviting when seating guests. read more

Twenty/20 has a great concept but still needs to work out some kinks in its execution. The restaurant was just rebranded, redesigned and rebuilt, and it relaunched with a new menu on 1/16/13, three days before our visit. I love Spanish food, so the focus on the cuisine of Northern Spain (more specifically San Sebastian, according to our server) was really exciting to me. Twenty/20's location within the newish Sheraton Carlsbad up behind Legoland poses some serious challenges for the restaurant. The hotel seems like a business hotel during the week, yet its proximity to Legoland means kids will be there too, especially on weekends and holidays. We went on the Saturday of a long weekend, and kids (including ours) were everywhere. Given that the relaunch was so recent, making us wait despite our reservation and a bunch of empty tables can probably be excused. The whole front of house, from the hostess down through the wait staff, felt disorganized. Hopefully that issue will resolve itself over time. Once we were seated, our server brought bread in a bag on a cutting board, which made for an attractive but impractical presentation. It looked great, but I had to dig my hand into the bag to fish out the sourdough. It was also odd that the "featured" bread was an olive bread, but it came with butter rather than olive oil, which we would have preferred. The new menu offers tapas, flatbreads, standards, greens and sides. We came for dinner but we weren't really inspired by the standards - they seemed really ordinary and but for some manchego and rice, they didn't seem very Spanish. My wife and I don't order chicken or salmon at restaurants because we make both at home, our server never identified the "seasonal fish", and we didn't feel like burgers. So we split the flatiron steak and ordered 3 of the tapas. The bacon wrapped dates we're good but small and a bit dry, the shrimp a la plancha had great flavors but required a lot of work to peel and were strangely mushy, and the marinated olives were garlic bombs, although they were tasty. The Twenty/20 price point is a bit high for the area, so to make it work the food has to be exceptional. All the building blocks are there. If they can work out the kinks Twenty/20 can be a great destination restaurant. I'm afraid they still have some work to do. read more
