The crab cake topper was seasoned well and not too breaded which I like. My bf had the sea bass which was more to my liking. I had an old fashioned where I thought it was too sweet. Stopped in here for an evening cocktail. Came in because they have live music. Dave was the musician. Good voice, very good on guitar. Had calamari, pretty good, not grease soaked. The cucumber martini was good, the Basel Hayden Bourbon was good, the single ice cube was wanting, but it did not detract from the Bourbon. The menu is kind of high end. We were looking for a place to celebrate our friend's birthday on our last night in Newport Beach and found a bougie spot with fresh seafood near our Airbnb. Although we had no reservations on a Saturday eve, we were able to get seated in the wine cellar, which was private and cozy. We started with a bottle of wine and ordered the Caesar salad as an appetizer. Now, I'm super picky when it comes to my Caesar salads, but honestly, this one hit the mark. it was crisp, flavorful, and just the right amount of dressing. For my main, I went with the Chilean sea bass, and wow. It was so flaky and perfectly cooked, the sauce was incredible, and the whole dish just tasted fresh and light. My boyfriend had the grass-fed filet mignon with bone marrow butter, along with some white truffle mac & cheese, and everything was absolutely delicious. I could've eaten the mac & cheese all night! Marina was my server né she couldn't have been nicer. Friendly and solicitous, she gave great advice and I didn't feel rushed. As a solo diner I was treated very well. There was live music but the level was such that you could still hear others and the tunes were great! Now, the food...the scallops, which in other restaurants I generally find too salty, were perfectly cooked and seasoned. This was our first visit (mid Dec 2024) and we were so impressed by the ambiance, service, historic vibe and of course the FOOD! I had the softball cut swordfish and holy smokes, so incredible!! My husband devoured the Cioppino and loved it. We started with one of the best shrimp cocktail appetizers we have ever had, and certainly the most generous. Treated like some midwest tourist, I was summarily dismissed. Meathead doorman (the same bearded guy from Blackie's and Beach Ball) informed us (with the stiff-arm block) that "The bar is at capacity." At 5:30?!?! Certainly, there must be a better customer service option than turning away NEIGHBORS!!! Sorry Tony & Tony, the big dude said NO. My husband on the other hand did not enjoy his rack of lamb which was doused in sauce that tasted like gravy. Service was good. But it did take an hour and 2 drinks later to get our food. So we went here for our seventh anniversary. This was the first place we dined at when we flew into California. I could not honestly think of a better choice. This was honestly some of the most delicious cuisine I have ever tasted in my entire life. The swordfish was a buttery, lemon-caper perfection. The Australian lobster tail was massive, incredibly tender, and oh-so sweet! The filet mignon could not have been cooked more properly. It paired so well with the lobster tail. They were made for eachother They brought us a chocolate cake for our anniversary dessert. My husband put that it was our anniversary when he made the reservation online through Open Table, and we totally forgot to mention this to our server. To be honest I don't know where to start from! The two ladies at the front were extremely nice and our waiter Ricky was very friendly and helpful with everything, him and Cameron kept checking on our table every once and a while to make sure that we got everything we needed and no empty plates on the table. The atmosphere of the place was wonderful our both had a nice view over the whole restaurant and they had someone playing the guitar and singing live. Obviously the food was perfect, arguably the best steak I've had so far, and the fries were perfectly fried and crispy with the cheese on top. My rating is based on 21 Oceanfront supposedly being a high end restaurant. The Asian Pear Salad pleasantly surprised me with its huge portion. Unfortunately, there wasn't much pear nor candied pecans. The raspberry vinaigrette tasted like ordinary raspberry vinaigrette from the supermarket. As this was a high end restaurant, my Father-In-Law asked for Pommes Frites as his side dish; But the waiter denied that the restaurant could make it. I was confused, since the side dishes included Crispy Parmesan Fries (which were delicious by the way). Obviously, the waiter could have just asked for clarification. The bell pepper flavor overwhelmed the slightly overcooked Cioppino. In addition, the seafood did not seem to have absorbed any of the cioppino flavors. The cioppino was edible, but as a $55 entree, I was not impressed. The Filet Mignon a la carte $51 dish was of excellent quality and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the steak just had boring salt and black pepper flavoring and nothing special, not even garlic butter as enhancement. Braised short ribs was one of the specials of the night. Again, the meat was of excellent quality. The flavoring was fabulous, but lamentably, it was obscenely salty and required me to eat half of a complimentary sour dough bun just to swallow one bite of short rib. The Blueberry Lemongrass cobbler with Coconut Gelato was an interesting dessert. Normally, I don't associate lemongrass with dessert, so it was a terrific idea. I also tasted some ginger which paired well with the lemongrass flavor. But the blueberry syrup was overly sweet along with not having enough flaky cobbler crust. The Coconut Gelato was sweet enough to balance the lemongrass/ginger flavor, but the overly sugary blueberry filling ruined the idea. Normally, I would have given 21 Oceanfront a 3 star rating. However, my Father-In-Law forgot to hand over his Marriott Discount card (that had listed 21 Oceanfront as one of the restaurant that would give a 15% discount to card members) until after his credit card was processed. The manager supposedly could not process the 15% discount due to this restaurant's "archaic" billing system. As a high end restaurant, this is unacceptable. read more

Poor service. Had to ask for a menu. Bartender was more concerned with watching the TV and the ocean waves than asking how everything is or if anything else needed. Left the bar and had to find someone for my bill. What i thought was a manager wearing Nike dunks very casual for a fine dining restaurant went to get my check but since the bartender didn't put my drink on he went to get the bartender to make sure everything was correct. When i told him i had a Tito's sprite he left anyway. If i was worried about paying for my meal i wouldn't have asked for the check. He was more concerned with my check being accurate than making sure i had a great experience. read more

I ordered a medium rare steak and mine came out rare but bc it was so busy and took so long to actually get our food, I didn't send it back. The lobster bisque was not good, the mushroom risotto looked like cat vomit but was actually alright. The only thing I enjoyed there was sadly the lemon sorbet. Our party of six had a wonderful dinner a few weeks ago. Service was excellent as it should be for a restaurant of this stature. The problem we had is when we departed the restaurant. The main dining level is is accessed by a dark curves set of stairs. My wife didn't recognize the bottom tread and fell. She had no alcohol beverage during dinner The manager came over and said "I wish I could say that you are the first one that has taken a fall". He was sympathetic, but knowing that the stairs are a hazard, you would have thought that the restaurant would have provided better lighting and assistance for departing guest. There are definitely some ADA issues with is the entrance. read more
