We were staying at the Hotel Mazarin, and William at the front desk showed us after we arrived, how to get here through the hotel. We stopped here every night of our stay! The bartenders, Susan, Brian, Amy, and Other Brian, were all great! We also came for the music which was great! One thing I love about this place is meeting people visiting. We had so much fun laughing, dancing, and drinking! We also felt at home and safe, because the staff took care of us! We also got some great restaurant recommendations from Brian...or was it other Brian...LOL! Definitely worth stopping by either before or at the end of your night. We absolutely LOVED this place. The area was a little sketch but once inside, it was great. The bartenders were SUPER friendly, the drinks were good. I ordered an espresso martini because I had read they serve one of the best in NOLA but it was made with cold brew so that was a huge disappointment. We grabbed two stools at the bar and hung out for a few hours. There was a jazz band playing - Marty Peters and the Party Meters and they were FANTASTIC. They really kept the crowd entertained. We came here for a cocktail after dinner elsewhere on a weeknight... They were moderately busy and the band was setting up, but while we were there they didn't play. First off, Colin at the bar was Impressive as heck...took my order of 9 drinks and didn't blink, just went to makin them and dished them out without me having to repeat any of the order. My wife and I were staying at the Ritz for a company staff retreat I was attending, and we were looking for bars in close vicinity to walk for a drink after my scheduled events were completed. On the first night, we walked down Iberville to the 21st Amendment located at the La Louisiane. Obviously, attending a bar that pays tribute to the Prohibition era, where craft cocktail-making reached a new level, was intriguing to me. When you consider it only a couple of blocks walk from the hotel where I was staying, then the choice was obvious. Walking inside the maroon-colored walls and Prohibition-era-like design, with its chandelier, produces a cozy environment that has a cool vibe due to the live music playing on any given night, featuring various genres. The bar also features a back lounge area with velvet curtains, providing a more intimate drinking experience. At the bar area, a flat-screen TV plays movies, typically from the 1980s and 1990s, such as Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, which was playing the night we visited. I didn't quite get the sense that I had gone back in time to the Prohibition era, but it's a fun, relaxing bar with great bartenders making great cocktails such as the Cochin de Lait, comprising bacon-fat-washed bourbon, China China, and Taverna. This cocktail was quite a strong drinking experience. I ordered one other cocktail that was Manhattan-inspired La Louisiane, consisting of rye, sweet vermouth, Benedictine, Peychaud's bitters, and chocolate walnut bitters. 21st Amendment was a solid first choice for a nightly bar during our most recent trip to the French Quarter in NOLA. The cocktails alone are fantastic and the vibes are chill without being rambunctious like some of the bars half a block down on Bourbon Street. read more

The band and ambiance were awesome. I took off a star because their front door sticks! It was a freezing cold night in February and their bouncer was sitting behind the closed door. I understand they wouldn't want the door to stay open but when I tried to push the door open, I fell right inside on my hands. There was a step up at the door which caught me by surprise. 21st is a wonderful bar to listen to excellent jazz music. The venue is small and loud so you will most likely be sharing a table or standing for a bit. We luckily scored a table and yes we shared it with another couple. Jazz is king here but so are their craft cocktails. We were in a Paloma mood and our spicy and not-too-spicy palomas were perfect. Do check out their cocktail menu it is impressive. What is equally impressive is their service Even though the bartenders really mixologists were slammed they moved through the orders quickly and I think I only waited a few minutes for each round. The band that night was high energy and got the crowd amped up and dancing. They even played a bluesy/jazz version of a Bruce Springsteen song! We will definitely return on our next visit. read more

We tried to get in here the night before and the place was packed so we couldn't get in. Seems like it's a lot easier during the day to get in everywhere. When we first arrived it was pretty empty. They had this amazing band starting to play. By the time the second song was played they had drawn a large crowd and the place was hopping. Overall: This is a fun, music focused jazz bar near Bourbon Street. The music is awesome. Drinks and service are decent, but you pay a premium for proximity to the tourist zone. It ends up being pretty good if you can find a seat. Drinks: 3 Service: 4 Value: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Drinks: Drinks were pretty standard. I had an old fashioned. They seem to have a decent selection of beer and wine as well. Service: The bartender was quick and attentive. He and the bouncer man the entire place, so it can be a lot for them to manage, but they do it well. Value: Drinks are expensive, $15-20 each. But you do get a show with it, so overall I think it evens out. Atmosphere: The music is the reason to come here. They had a 4 piece jazz band playing while we were there and they were excellent. This is a small venue with only a few tables and bar seats. There's a small room with couches and another table in the corner, but it's out of view of the band. read more

One of my favorite "joints" for an excellent evening of LIVE entertainment, great libations, and usually a "smart", chill crowd. Great place for after dinner too, located a 1\2 block from Bourbon Street. Friendly, professional bartenders that make excellent cocktails. My brother and I swear we had the best Old Fashioned cocktail of our lives there. (Thank you for introducing us to Russell's Bourbon!) This was one of my favorite bars in NOLA. The bartender was so nice and fun to watch. We asked them questions about what they were making and they were really excited to tell us all about it. It was a smaller bar and it luckily wasn't very busy. They had live jazz music and the duo was great! I wish I got their names so I could find them on social media. They sang an original song called "Is a Bat a Bird"? and I am still singing it 3 days later. The drinks were delish. I ordered The Frenchy and it was soooo tasty. Cute bar off which sits across Acme, which is another famous spot in NOLA for oysters. You can swing by here grab a couple of drinks before grabbing a bite to eat. The 21st Amendment was ratified in 1933 and repealed the 18th Amendment which mandated a prohibition on alcohol. This place originally opened as a hotel and restaurant until the 1990s. It was also previously owned by New Orleans' most notorious mobsters, Diamond Jim Moran and Carlos Marcello. This is a smaller and more intimate bar in the French Quarter. We came at around 5pm and it was not super loud like what you would hear a block away on Bourbon Street. They have live music everyday and Joe Kennedy was amazing (this was our second time watching him perform during our trip). My first drink was the la louisiane ($15) which was spirit forward but balanced. I enjoyed the hints of sweet vermouth and it was a really good drink. My second drink was the frenchy ($15) which was bright and refreshing. The lemon twist oils gave off great aromas and it was very easy to drink. My third drink was the true story ($15) which had strong notes of the maraschino liqueur and the orange twist oils. The vibes were immaculate with the chill vibe and the relaxing live jazz music. I don't know what it's like here at night but if you come earlier in the evening it's wonderful. read more

Love a good live music! We heard 21st Amendment plays great music across from waiting in line for ACME! My husband wanted to go into this Jazz Bar for the music they were playing. The band was Big Mike and they were great. The saxophone player was phenomenal!!! The main guy Mike was such a great vocalist , he can sing!! We got seatings at that bar and had to order some drinks! We stopped in this tiny bar to take a break from walking. When I say tiny, I mean it! There were 2 high top tables and seating at the bar, but that was it! However, the cocktails were delicious, the bartender (I can't remember her name but she had short red hair) was super sweet and helpful and recommended an absolutely delicious drink- Going Pear Shaped. It had gin, pear rosemary honey, lemon, and ginger beer. It was bright and refreshing! My husband also enjoyed his drink. We heard a pretty nice jazz trio while we were in there. This place was a little ducked off from Bourbon Street but it was still a good fine. They only had one bartender and it wasn't the biggest bar but she tried her best to make sure everybody had the attention they needed. They had live music there and the lady who was singing was really good. There were people who were there just for that basically, and I noticed that because when she stopped they left. Which is okay, it was really good entertainment. She did her thing! The spot is not really super big, there's not a lot of seating, so you will have to stand. This is a swanky little bar to stop into for great live music. Friendly bartender & great cocktails. My friend from NYC who moved to NOLA few months ago was playing here on Easter Sunday. It's very small & on nice days open air to the sidewalk. It has a few round high top tables & bar seating. When I arrived it was standing room only. We got 2 Frenchy's to start & then I switched to just Prosecco. I finally snagged a seat after the bar after the band's second set & then a table by the band as they began their 3rd set. Incredible experience! Stopped in here following a team conference in town, and I was not disappointed. The venue is intimate but the talent and bartenders are phenomenal.
