    Happy Hour

Stop into this hidden bar with a friend on a bike tour of Happy Hours around the city. Catahoula offers cocktails you may not find anywhere else in NOLA with its Peruvian influences. Though the cocktails are still rather expensive even during the happy hour compared to other happy hours the fact that they are not your typical sazerac makes up for it. The food menu is pretty good for happy hour with half price off appetizers. The star of the show is the upstairs rooftop bar. Very cool as you dont off see roofs used much in the hot climate of New Orleans.

I love rooftop season!! So as soon as I moved back home, I decided that touring NOLA's rooftops was a high priority (probably second only to the brunch tour)! I'll start by saying that I wanted to love this place so much more than I did... Moderate in size, the decor definitely made you feel at home with options for more chill, comfortable group seating, side tables for date night, or high chair bar style seating for girls night. The view was suboptimal at best. Like sure you can see the sky, but mainly the place felt like it was drowning in a sea of buildings. I've been to shorter roofs before, but they normally featured something like a unique, albeit partial, view, a pool, or a waterfall that made it feel more worthwhile. At this place, if you looked away from your conversation, it generally felt like staring out the window of an office building. The drinks were great- strong, tasty, hand crafted, but the service was deplorable. So anytime you go somewhere where the bartender/mixologist is more so creating art than throwing together drinks, you can expect a delay in service bc each masterpiece takes time (as it should). The rooftop bar had three major flaws that I witnessed: 1. Lack of bar personnel- one bartiste isn't enough when it takes 10-15 mins to make one drink. There was a second person working on the rooftop, but her job seemed limited to ringing ppl up & keeping the bar area clean. 2. Disregard to first come, first served- if you're averaging over 5 minutes per drink, it's imperative that you keep up with the order in which people arrive & order their drinks. That's the only thing that eliminated the disparity of one person waiting 15-30 mins for a drink and another waiting over an hour. 3. Insufficient ingredients- if your handcrafted beverages require special ingredients, you can't run out!! Especially not for your bestsellers. Especially not early in the day. Especially when you're not super busy. A couple ladies who were visiting from London ended up bartering with a guy for his drink when he got the last once... Sad days indeed. The aroma in the air made it clear that this roof is 420 friendly. Not what I was expecting nor my thing, but just FYI in case that's what you're hoping to find or avoid. In a city where great drinks are a dime a dozen, this rooftop bar leaves far too much to be desired with slightly more costly drinks, a view that's mediocre at best, & service that's substandard by far. Effectively removing it from my rooftop list & adding it in with the patios for now... May try it again later in my tour, but I'll be sure to keep my expectations to a minimum. Will update this review PRN... But don't hold your breath for it.

Really enjoyed the general atmosphere at this place. Stopped by on a Sunday and it was quiet and not crowded. However, the biggest problem we had is that the bar on the rooftop wasn't open. Basically you had to order your drink from the first floor and then take the elevator up to the third floor seating area. So, while the third floor seating area was lovely, and the seats were comfortable, having to take the elevator to and from the bar to get another round meant we cut our stay shorter than planned. Beer and food selection are both fairly limited as well. Good for a drink, but that's about it.

Nice and cozy tucked away rooftop bar. The bartender Sean is also a DJ. There's a nice selection of refreshing fresh fruit based-drinks to go along with incredible music to get you in a good mood.

As far as hotel bars go, this place is great. There's technically two bars, one in the lobby and one on the third floor/rooftop. The hotel specializes in cocktails containing Peruvian pisco which is a native liquor that has a warm and rich flavor. They have happy hour specials that make you wonder why isn't very one at happy hour. The rooftop area is nice, quaint, and unpretentious but I don't think it could fit more than 150 people comfortably. If you're looking for a clean bar to grab a drink at with friends, this is it. My coworkers and I will surely be back.

If you are looking for a little more classy, yet fun place, you found a great place. This hip rooftop bar offers many interesting blended drinks. But they also have a few beers and some decent wine. Snacks are very lovely, some Peruvian style dishes. We happened to stop by before a Burlesque show. The girls were great dancers, and fun. On a gorgeous night, this place is a welcome change from some of the NOLA crowds.

Had an awesome time at this rooftop bar. Spent time chatting with Lydia who told us about the drinks and local attractions. Couldn't have had a better time.

Awesome hidden rooftop bar in the CBD. Great twist on conventional cocktails by using a blender with fresh fruit!! Definitely has a tropical tiki bar feel. Very cool. Only downside is that it's not on the beach :)

Words simply cannot express how much I continue to be blown away by the exquisite quality of food,…read morebeverage, service, and uncommon hospitality demonstrated and perfectly executed by this New Orleans establishment. My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

Named #44 in the Top 50 Best Bars in the World List, I had high expectations. Supposedly…read morereservations were hard to get, but that is because they allot most of the place for walk-ins, so you don't need to put in the effort that I did to book a time a month in advance. We were seated in the upstairs area and tried some of their drinks. We got the Brandy Crusta which is their most popular drink and the Pouvez-Vous Poulet which is a seasonal cocktail. The Brandy Crusta has the cup dipped in sugar with a fairly strong cocktail within. Definitely get this when you are here as that is one of the best Brandy Crustas and is historical. The Pouvez-Vous Poulet is a duck fat washed rum cocktail and is also very delicious. You cannot really go wrong with any cocktail, but definitely order the Brandy Crusta for the true experience here. Though, honestly, while the cocktails are good, it was not as memorable as the other Top 50 Best Bars in the World that I have been to, but I won't dock a star off because of this, since the cocktails and overall experience otherwise were fantastic. Service is good but can be a bit slow, but it is an acceptable tradeoff for a more quiet ambience compared to downstairs.

While the Sazerac wasn't invented here, this is arguably its most iconic home, a place where New Orleans cocktail history comes to life. I would use this version as your gold standard when dining out in New Orleans and looking for a perfect Sazerac. We enjoyed watching bartender Rachel craft each drink. Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. We had such a great time sitting at the bar that my wife and I each finished two and a half Sazeracs, which tells you everything you need to know.

The Apothecary was the cure. We grabbed seats mid bar and before we even finished settling in, there were waters waiting on the bar. That simple move already separated this place from the chaos outside. It's hospitality in its cleanest form: welcome in, take a breath, we got you. Inside is low light and old time apothecary mood, menus like a spellbook, but it's not gimmicky. The bartenders move like they've done the reps. Calm. Precise. No frantic showboating, no syrupy cover ups, no sloppy pours even with the parade energy banging on the door. We ordered two and they were both dead on. Alchemist Elixir: pea flower gin, elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon. It shows up pale violet with an orchid on the rim and yes it's pretty, but it's also disciplined. Floral without tasting like perfume. Bright without being sour. A drink that makes you slow down. Plus a magic chemists surprise. Corpse Reviver #2: local gin, Lillet Blanc, Grand Marnier, absinthe, fresh lemon. Cold, crisp, citrus first, then the herbal edge and just enough absinthe to remind you what city you're in.
