So, like, it's our first ever tenth wedding anniversary. How often do these things really come around for people anyway? It'll probably be our only one when you think about it. Anyway. We batted around ideas, places to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime, momentous occasion. We normally have mid-tier'd the off years of anniversaries up until now. You know, something along the lines of like, an Outback, or some place of that standard or anywhere in between, letting me and my wife, acknowledge our presence together on this here Earth, once a year n'all. Cue-Mike Reno & Ann Wilson, belting out Almost Paradise! What we came back with after a few discussions was 2 Johns. We had never been here before, it seems long-enough established, we've heard good things, and the reviews are mostly excellent. I called and made a reservation a couple of months in advance. I confirmed it days before. Our reservation was on a Thursday evening within close proximity to the Christmas holiday. This restaurant is located in a tiny strip mall in Bossier City on hectic Airline Drive next to a busy set of railroad tracks. Inside the strip mall, just at a quick glance, there is another popular local restaurant, Monjuni's (Italian), an after hours-type quick healthcare facility, and of course, 2Johns. The parking here is extremely tight, and extremely limiting, especially during what I guess are peak drinking, dining, and injury/illness hours, to keep this entire lot so full at all times. Like after school/happy hour 5pm-ish to peak dinner hour 8pm-ish. We arrived, and were lucky, after a little bit of driving around, to catch a spot just opening not too, too far from the front entrance. Otherwise our parking prospects were going to venture further out to the surrounding neighborhood. 2 Johns does offer a valet service, it might even be free, however we are not valet enthusiasts. After parking, and walking a short distance through the packed lot, we entered the restaurant. We mentioned we had a reservation, and were seated politely and quickly to a tiny, two seated table within mere feet of the host-hostess stand, and the entrance. We were shocked. Really? A reservation gets you this, the worst seat in the house? We were literally seated right at the entrance. Anyone entering or departing the dining room would have to work their way around us, patrons and staff. Most of the restaurant is dimly lit, but there was an illuminating beam of light projected right over our table. Bad enough anyone who immediately enters the restaurant will see us right there, that is, the first thing they will see is us, but we also have a spotlight above us, making us glow for all other seated diners to view us. First impressions were not good at all. Poor parking situation, even poorer seating assignment. But my wife and I are not unrealistic, or ridiculous. We didn't say anything, or ask to be moved, though every time that front door to the restaurant opened, and it was a lot, we got a nice freezy breeze, as it was about 51 degrees outside at the time we were seated. We just sat at our tiny table right out front, on blast, and just looked at each other, and said, well the food better be good. And thankfully, it was. The food and service from then on was as its' reputation is that proceeds it. All good. Once we got past the initial hiccups in parking and seating things got progressively better where it counted the most, in meals and service. Now, being in such tight quarters right at the entrance and exit, and though seated, I was an unwitting participant in several other visiting diner's good bye hugs and holiday cheer, as arms brushed me as embraces of others ensued, gift bags received from now concluded office parties, bonking my head as a gentle squeeze occurred from one jolly co-worker to the next. But alas, it's the holidays. It's our anniversary. It's all good. read more

Friday Night. Reserved a table with high hopes. Left disappointed. We eat at a lot of steakhouses...Ruth's Chris, Dickie Brennan's...on and on...price for the experience is expected. Got neither here. First, at this price point, having one waitress across an entire room seems like a setup for failure. At 50 to 70 bucks a plate I expect better than Outback Steakhouse...I actually think the food and service is better at outback. Ordered 14oz Ribeye Medium with wedge salad, 18yr X-RAY Glenmorangie, iced tea, bread pudding for dessert. Steak arrives...about half the thickness of what I get at Whole Foods (great steak at Whole Foods folks) over seasoned and the first thing out of the waitresses mouth is "can you cut through the center of your steak". OK...red flag. If steak is your business and you are charging 40 bucks...you should know it's right. As thin a steak as it was...it was fine. After plates were finished...they sat on the table, drinks got to the bottom and we waited. Anyhoo, maybe it was a bad night...but as a guy looking for a great place to take folks...I'm out. The Iceberg Wedge and Bread Pudding were great, but we didn't come for salad and dessert. read more

I never mind spending money on an incredible meal, but was Kind of disappointed with my New Years Eve meal here. Food was good but not terrific and incredibly high priced for what it's was. It was a fixed menu and by the speed of the service the food was obviously prepared ahead of time, cafeteria style. For a price of over $200 for two people and only one drink, a glass of wine, I'd expect a little more care put into the meals preparation. All I can say is thank goodness we got the red snapper , which was tasty, instead of the chicken breast for such an exorbitant price. read more

I use to frequently go Thursday nights for the Prime Rib Special. Completely amazing, considering I never liked Prime rib until trying it there. Should you find yourself wanting a lighter menu the soups and salads are all amazing as well. Should you be a fan of Ruby Red Grapefruit, you must try their Grapefruit Martini delicious sweetness! This place has an outstanding atmosphere with the most pleasant staff & management. Some nights you will have the pleasure of listening to live Pianist which I have heard accompanied by Cellist. Honestly this restaurant is very nice but for what you're paying it's not worth it. The servers are very genuine and nice. The food almost tastes like the food on a cruise ship. My boyfriend and I had a $130 tab and we could get the same order from a different restaurant cheaper. If you just feel like being rich and expensive one right save your riches and spend it somewhere you'll get the worth of it. read more

For the SBC area, 2Johns is one of my top steak houses for special occasions. I made reservations in advance and had no problems upon my arrival. Hands down, the steak au poivre & filet Oscar are cooked to the ultimate steak perfection. The steaks were prepared exactly as requested and I would expect nothing but the best. Each bite of my steak was tender, juicy, and burst with dynamic flavors. Service was impeccable and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. Yes, they are $$$ but you really do get what you pay for and I am 100% satisfied with my dining experience there. Went here for my birthday dinner. The Steak Au Poivre was delicious! Perfectly cooked and well flavored. Their old fashioned drink was good too and had a nice rock candy stirring stick. I was so hungry, I failed to take a pic of my steak before I wolfed it down, but it was just too good. Good date night place if you're willing to splurge. Between my husband and I, if we get an appetizer, 2 meals, and 1 dessert, it runs about $120 or more. We only go if we get a gift card. OMG. We stumbled upon this gem 3 years ago when we were moving to Austin. We drove 12 hours from SC & stopped in Bossier to spend the night. We were so impressed with 2Johns then that we always remembered it. This time we were in Georgia for a funeral and got caught in the mess that was Hurricane Irma. No way we could fly out of anywhere in the South so we made a last minute decision to drive home. We purposely set Bossier as our destination and looked up 2Johns again. We had driven about 700 miles so we were stiff, hungry and ready for a drink. I got the Signature Steak Au Poivre. Dear God. The flavor is ridiculous. I could just hook up an IV of that sauce but then it would bypass my taste buds and that would suck. So maybe mainlining it would be a better idea. I stopped up every last molecule with the delicious warm bread. i don't care that this is a high classed place. That sauce must be sopped. Don't bother with anywhere else. Just go here and pony up for the check. It's hefty but we'll worth it. The live music is the cherry on top! read more

Had been wanting to try 2 John's for a long time. First off, the food was great. No complaints or comments about the food at all. Service was mediocre, superior to most other restaurants in the region, but still sub-par for fine dining. I rate the food at 5/5, the service at 4/5, and the atmosphere at 3/5; the overall experience at 4/5. I will offer some critiques and suggestions for improvements. These are things that I would consider if I were the manager or owner. I am not a restaurant owner, nor have I ever worked in the industry in any capacity, so these are an outsiders perspective. I just enjoy fine dining and am passionate about continuous improvement in any business. I would want someone to point these things out to me if I was the owner. It is very loud. The atmosphere is not fine dining, but maybe they are going for casual fine dining. I'm not sure there is a table in the place that would offer a quiet retreat for a romantic dinner. There are no soft surfaces, so every conversation and music from the bar area echos throughout the building. The dining areas of the restaurant need acoustic dampening and/or pink noise to kill the crowd noise and the echo. They should also consider separating the dining side from the bar side with a wall, so they can control the volume of any live music being heard in the dining room. Could still have the music heard, but have it played through the speakers instead. My wife and I could barely hear one another or the waiter talking, mostly because of the crowd noise. The restaurant appears very clean and well maintained, but I did notice that most of the chair backs in the restaurant are chipped and dinged with bare wood showing, which is very minor, but it was definitely noticeable and detracts from the ambiance. I would imagine they could be repaired with a wood touch-up marker to hide the damage and get many more years of life out of them. Front of house needs more training or better management, and possibly additional staff. Nothing is more annoying to me as a diner than to have wait-staff and bussers flying past me, brisk-walking or running through the restaurant because they are stretched too thin and in panic mode. I witnessed staff running into one another when rounding corners, and dropping silverware and dishes because they were moving too fast. Our experience with our waiter was fair, but he must have been stretched thin and working multiple sections, because he would disappear for long periods of time. I like for a waiter and bussers to observe from a distance, but be present and take care of things before the guest notices or asks. Definitely don't care for a waiter to hover and constantly ask "Is every thing okay? How's your food? Do you need anything?" We ordered, received, and finished our appetizers, and then sat for what felt like 10-15 minutes before our waiter finally came to take our entree order. Of course, then we sat while our meal was prepared. He checked in with us shortly before our meal arrived, at which time I ordered another glass of wine. Our entrees were delivered to our table by a runner, but our lobster Mac and cheese came approximately five minutes later. It was another several minutes before the waiter returned and realized that he had not ordered my wine. I ordered a specialty coffee after dinner, and gave the recipe; and was told that he would have to check with the bar. Understandable. I always expect that a restaurant bar might not have all of the ingredients to make it. He came back and told me that they do have the ingredients, but they don't know the recipe, so they would be unable to make it for me. I had previously told him the ingredients and the measurements. It's a simple recipe with 1/2oz each of Bailey's, Kahlua, and Frangelico, and the remainder coffee. I repeated the recipe again, and he again said that the bar said they would be unable to make it. As a customer, I took that as the bar staff saying that they would not be making it simply because they did not want to. I ordered a Creole Coffee instead. It was okay, but I would have preferred my Millionaire's Coffee instead. I witnessed on multiple occasions, other waiters delivering plates to wrong tables, plates to wrong diners at a table, and interrupting diners' conversations with pointless banter unrelated to the meal. Overall, it was a good experience, but there is room for improvement. Hopefully my criticism is seen as constructive, and they can improve from it. They are all minor things, but it can add up an eventually get out of hand. They should hope to be a fine dining destination, not because everyone else in town is bad and they are a little bit better, but because they are truly the best. read more

Took my wife here for her birthday. The food was excellent. I had the 14 oz ribeye and my wife had the creamy pesto pasta with shrimp. She was a little disappointed in the number of shrimp. Being a Tuesday night, the place was pretty busy. That translated to our food taking a little longer to arrive at our table. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Made dinner reservations using the OpenTable app. When we arrived our table was ready for us. It's a good idea to make reservations if it's a special occasion or else you risk sitting in the bar area. There is live music in the bar area. The parking area is small so it can be hard to find a parking space. They do have complimentary valet service and there is additional parking across the street behind the restaurant. read more
