My husband and I went out to dinner last night to celebrate my birtthday.We decided, 2 Johns.We have had always a wonderful experience there, until last night. We ordered for an appetizer, fried calamari. We have considerable experience consuming calamari. Anyone who knows calamari, knows that it is very 'rubbery' and chewy. Ours was so rubbery and tough my.jaw was beginning to ache. I called our waitress over and told her it was inedible, she quickly offered an alternative. Our enree took a good 50 minutes. Tables seated well after we arrived had eaten their appetizer and were being served thier. entrees. I believe waiting staff need to make the guest aware of serving timeline of their order. I felt abandoned, finally my husband spoke up and spoke to the waitress. She did check on us once during the 50 min. She became.defensive and said that because I was still nibbling on my caesar salad they did not present the entrees.lHere's a thought, why not ask the guest, if they would like. to served now or wait a moment. I was consoled trusting my entree would worth the wait, well, it was not. It was oversalted ( I ordered grouper) and flavorless, I requested, grilled fresh asparagus and 95% of them were burnt. Very disappointing. Nothing special about this place. Food is just average at best. Risotto had no flavor at all. Portions were small and the price was double what it was worth. My husband and I have gone here a few times when we went to 'splurge' and, have a date night away from our four kids. While it is expensive, it has been worth it every time. Just looked at the latest menu and to me, well, I would not bother driving over there. They have the entrees (steak) and serve it with MASHED potatoes. Nope. I like a good baked potato with my ribeye OR fresh cut french fried potatoes. If I want mashed, then I will go to grammas house. They just have lost me. To me a real steak house is all alacarte. Whee you can style your meal the way you want it. This place pair a good steak with side of their choice and if you want something else, that is an additional cost. You might call this place my favorite in town. From the moment we walked in the hostess greeted us out of towners and made us feel very welcome. It was a while ago but I haven't forgotten. I was with a group of ladies there for a birthday meal. We ordered a bottle of wine with dinner. The server opened it. My friend who is a wine enthusiast tasted it. I did too. It had turned and smelled and tasted like vinegar. The service was ridiculously slow between courses but our server did take good care of us with keeping drinks coming, table cleared and presenting the food once it came out. Took 3 1/2 hours from the time we sat down until we got up to leave. At one point, I actually thought he went on a break because we were sitting there for so long. Sweat the small stuff. 2John's is probably the best restaurant in Shreveport Bossier... but pay attention to the small stuff...the bad wobble in the table, the "warm" spinach salad being dry and cold, the crabcakes for like $18 being served cold (after we sent the first pair back for being way overcooked), with very little seasoning.. Our waiter smelled horribly of cigarette smoke, which he was pleasant enough, but come on, really? Now for the good stuff. The 10 ounce filet with béarnaise sauce and crabmeat was delectable and cooked perfectly. Your signature 2Johns steak was also cooked and seasoned to perfection. The wine and your sommelier Greg, genuine and amazingly unorthodox. But brilliant. The turtle cheesecake with pecans, creamiest and best cheesecake I've ever eaten. Please pay attention to the small stuff. Do not get complacent. Your food expediter needs to be fired. We will be back, w small changes you are clearly 5 star. PS. There was a small wall a/c unit and it was pointed directly at me, I sat in goose bumps all night. Now on to the food, it was wonderful. Amazing food! I wanted to try this place out for awhile. My boyfriend and I went with another couple on Dec 30th. Although we made our reservations over a month in advance we had the absolute worst table. Ask for a booth or a table away from the entry and kitchen. The hostess sat us in front of both. The bread is mediocre and we weren't overly impressed with the cocktails. However, their food is amazing. Our party ordered the 7oz filet, blackened salmon, seabass with lump crab meat and the steak au poivre, wedge salad to split, ceasar salad to split and a side of macaroni & cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious. We were unable to finish the mac & cheese, the portions are a good size. We ate the mac & cheese the next day at home and it was still delicious. The waiter asked us to cut into our steaks to check how they were cooked and I forgot to take a picture. The service id excellent. The wait staff kept our water filled and cleaned off plates. Our waiter brought our food and drinks out and checked on us regularly. We tried to go back on Jan 1, but thry were closed NYD. I look forward to going again. read more
