If I could give her no stars I would. I called asking for help because I couldn't keep my pet any longer. I had a breakdown when talking to her and it just felt like she wouldn't take no for an answer. I desperately needed someone to take in my dog ASAP and then solutions she "offered" were not the type of help I needed at the time. I explained to her that I needed to find a job, that I was moving, and that the place I was moving to did not allow pets. She insisted I should have my pet registered as an emotional support animal and also gave me information to a woman who could have helped with my job however, she just wasn't not understanding that I couldn't keep my pet and she was trying to make me keep him when the choice to let him go was already extremely difficult to make. We are so grateful for Jennifer and all her assistance. She helped us get our 8 month old pit bull Azula adopted in just 2 days. My brother dropped off his dog abruptly and then never came back for her but we were never home to be able to watch her so we really wanted her to be in a good home. I called Jennifer after trying to find Azula a good home for over a month. Jennifer was extremely helpful every step of the way and found great owners for her. Jennifer from 2nd Chances Rescue allowed our family to foster a German Sheppard mix, Nola, for one week to see if she would get along with our two kitties that own the house. Nola had not lived with cats. It just didn't work out with the cats and Jennifer took Doggie back without any pressure to adopt or foster. This group is professional and courteous. I read some of the comments on yelp and just hope folks realize that foster agencies have limited funding, space and volunteers so they can't take in all abandoned or misplaced pets. She was extremely angry after the discount question and went off on a tangent about how much she spends on dogs a year. She could have educated me on the matter without being extremely rude. After I called her out on her rudeness, she no longer wanted to work with me. Also, why post a $50 for $75 deal on yelp if she is so adamant about no discounts? And she could have saved some money on daily food if I would have adopted the dog I wanted. Honestly I feel sorry for the dogs. I ended up going to a shelter and picking up a sweetheart who desperately needed a home so it worked out for me in the end. I adopted a pup a little over a month ago & I couldn't be happier with my experience & the fact that they put the DOGS FIRST! I read a negative review about someone who wanted a cheap dog. Seriously do people say that? If you can't afford a dog & willing to spend money, you have no business having one and yes that's my opinion! You don't purchase a dog or adopt a dog to leave in the backyard- if it's not part of your family then you have no business having one. It's a privilege to have a dog and responsibility. That's exactly why we have rescues & over crowded shelters because too many people get dogs and don't realize or don't care the work that goes into it.. and yes, money! She is a great dog n generally great w other dogs, loves kids etc but she is really needing to be only dog in the Home setting so I call her n she returns my call and is a complete smart ass and just says she's too old and that keeping her is better than a plastic bag! . We adopted a puppy from 2nd Chances Rescue July, 2018. It was a rewarding experience. They came a long distance to check out our home and to interview us. It was a lengthy interview which we appreciated as it showed the care and dedication they put into the adoption process. We would recommend 2nd Chance to our friends and family without reservation. Teddy has been a great addition to our family. We have stayed in touch with Kathy at 2nd Chance and often share pictures and stories about our dogs. The woman who answers the phone is absolutely unprofessional and is very crude. With a heavy heart I can't keep my dogs anymore and she said it would be better to keep two 75 pound dogs in an apartment then to try and get them rehomed so they can have an actual backyard to play in. I asked her simply what are the steps I could do and she yelled at me and told me "YOU CANT DO THAT". I was simply trying to get help at rehoming and what I could do for them, and she told me that I was wrong for trying to do so, I started out with I have a few questions and she said "Okay what do you want". We adopted the most amazing pup and could not be more thankful for everything 2nd Chances Rescue did for us and our girl Penny! My husband & I were on the hunt for a rottweiler puppy and found our little rottie / dobie mix through the adopt a pet website which linked us up with the rescue. I called Jennifer to let her know how interested we were, filled out an application & did a mini interview over the phone. Jennifer came over to do a home inspection & we were able to meet Penny at the foster's home (Faith you're awesome too!) and eventually bring her back to her forever home. Jennifer & Monica were extremely communicative and easy to get in touch with to coordinate all of her shots, spay & microchip. Everything was covered by the rescue, and the adoption fee we paid ended up being tax deductible. I also really appreciate that they take the time do home inspections & conduct interviews so they can make sure the dog is going to a good home that is the right fit! I can't stress how amazing they were to work with and how happy we were with the whole process. We love our pup so much & feel so thankful to have her in our lives. Warning! Broken heart. My mom fell for a little Shih Tzu puppy named Oreo on the 2nd Chances website. She spoke to Jennifer who promised to bring him Thursday, then rescheduled for Monday. While waiting for Oreo to arrive, we discovered he had been removed from the website. Numerous attempts to contact Jennifer were ignored. We adopted a puppy through 2nd Chances about 4 months ago. My puppy's foster mom was so dedicated and genuinely cared for my little pup. She still occasionally reaches out for updates and reminders for shots. I have also been in contact with another member of the rescue, Donna, who is incredible. She was always prepared to answer my 1000 questions and offer great advice. Jennifer, the owner, was so encouraging and clearly explained the whole adoption process and what my payment would cover. ($300 for all shots, neuter,microchip, and a life long best friend?? IM IN!) To touch on some of the reviews stating that Jennifer is "rude", I need to add that she is so truly passionate about animals, which is so evident through her dedication to her rescue. She is constantly having to deal with the HORRIBLE situations these poor animals are put in at the hands of humans and she truly just wants to ensure they are going to the BEST home possible! I was freshly out of the hospital knowing good and well I wanted a dog for support when I knew I was ready and able to give an animal the love and care it deserved I looked for a dog to adopt I came across 2nd Chance Rescue, I thought how perfect I got a second chance at life and I wanted to do the same for a dog. Having said that I called Jennifer I told her there were puppies I was interested in and she gave me the foster mommy's (Kathy) number. Kathy is wonderful she loves each one of her fosters as if they are her own, you instantly feel her warm heart. The process is, after filling out an application, Jennifer goes to your home to make sure it is dog safe, fences are safe, dogs can not get out etc. she is kind, professional, firm as she wants to insure this dogs are well taken care of, these are not just animals they are family. For the adoption fee, it includes spay/neuter, microchip, first three rounds of shots. Let me start by saying how greatful I am to work with 2nd chances rescue, I originally came to Jennifer about 5 months ago when I wanted to help find a home to a dog I have found, right away Jennifer was more than helpful trying to help me find a home for the dog, the way Jennifer cares for those dogs it's beyond words, she will drive a long distance, in the middle of the night and will do whatever it takes to rescue a dog In need. I don't know how many rescues that do that. This rescue pulls so many dogs from a shelter and find them great homes with a home inspection, which a lot of rescues don't inspect after adopting the dogs out. I have never had to use a rescue to help get a dog from a shelter over the years, but about a year ago I had seen a Rottweiler at the Carson Shelter that I was interested in. After going into the office to get a one on one with him found out he was "RESCUE ONLY". I asked what does that mean and why is he rescue only? Found out that he did not pass his temperament test and Failed due to Food Aggression. Needless to say I was very disappointed to find this out. But spoke to a volunteer about him and she referred me to 2nd Chances Rescue to help get him released. I completed an application, went through the interview process, had a home check and was approved. My husband went to see the Rottweiler and wanted to bring him home. We had Rottweilers for over 25 years and knew their temperaments very well. We also knew that he would get over the food aggression once we worked with him to show that no one would deprive him of food, and give him the love he so needed. Within 2 days he was neutered, and we were able to get Roderick out of the shelter with the help from 2nd Chances Rescue. We could not have got him without their help. 2nd Chances Rescue is very through when they adopt dogs out and make sure they go to a home that is a perfect match. Roderick is now Riddick and has got over the food aggression within weeks of having him in our home. He is now going through Dog Obedience and will be graduating next month. He get along with both our other two dogs one female Rottweiler & one male Shepard/Lab mix. If anyone is interested in Adopting or Fostering a Dog through 2nd Chances Rescue I would highly recommend this Rescue. They go over and above to find great homes for their dogs as well as dogs in shelters!! read more

I unfortunately had to get rid of my best friend due to being kicked out of where i live and the new job wouldnt let me bring my dog with me. The owner was very rude and mean to me over the phone due to it being near the holidays. Instantly started to give me crap because I could not keep my dog anymore. I got tired of being put down, so when I tried to tell her nevermind I'll find a no kill shelter she started to raise her voice and argue with me so I hung up. Needless to say I found a nice no kill shelter to take in my dog and they didn't give me any grief and one of the employees knew someone who would want my dog asap. I will never contact this rescue in the future or nor will I ever recommend it at all. Really disappointed with the owner's communication skills. That is not how you handle someone's stressful and upsetting situation. I wish it could have been handled in a more professional FRIENDLY matter. read more

Just over a year ago we had to put our remaining dog down. Sad day, indeed. She was purchased like our other dog. Anyways we wanted to rescue a dog this time so we looked at the websites and made calls and even filled out an application or two or three, then finally saw a dog we thought would fit our family on 2nd chances so I contacted Jennifer. I went to the foster mom's house and took a look and met the 2 year old poodle mix so I liked her and then took the wife back the next day so she could meet her and we both liked her. We then filled out the application and within a couple of days we got a text asking when we would like to have our new rescue dog brought over. We made the appointment so they brought her over, looked at our place to make sure it was suitable, and then left her in our care, So I would have given 5 stars but this is my first experience adopting a pet. So, realistically can I say it's "as good as it gets" with my limited experience? I suppose so but I take my reviews seriously and I want to be as accurate as I can, I think based on our experiences talking to other places, other shelters and seriously, if you've been looking like we have you know there are places that don't return your emails, or calls. Actually, we did go to one Pet "Adoption". It was at the Burbank Petco. It was supposed to go two days but when we got there with three hours to go during the first day, they said all the dogs had been taken. Another family got there just after us and their little girl wasn't mad like we were she left crying. They said "no, you have to be here at least 15 minutes before we start it so you can fill out papers etc." I'm sorry, these aren't black friday tv's. I'm not going to wait in a line. Anyways, she's been taken to the vet to be checked and everything seems good with her health. She got new booster shots so she's all current. And she seems very happy in her new home. Bottom line is getting a rescue dog isn't as easy as buying one in the mall, especially if you have allergen concerns like my wife does. But stick with it, and maybe you'll find a good rescue like 2nd Chances Rescue! It feels good rescuing a dog! read more

My aunt and uncle lost their baby a couple of days ago after she escaped from my dad's backyard. After scouring the neighborhood and posting signs all over the place, we still had no luck. I started scouring the internet for lost & found dog groups, shelters, Craigslist, etc. and ended up finding her picture on a Riverside Lost & Found Dogs Facebook page posted by Jennifer! I messaged Jennifer and she got back to me immediately, and asked me several identifying questions about the pup, which I really appreciated because it ensures that it's not a random person claiming that a dog is theirs. She brought the pup to my dad's house and reunited my aunt & uncle with their baby on the 4th of July, which is already the busiest day of the year for folks who do this incredible work. I talked and texted Jennifer so often with questions and she couldn't have been more caring or helpful. She even took the little dog back, without judgement, and when I was ready to bring little "Maggie" home again, Jennifer said "Second Chances" is what we're about! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!! Had nothing but bad experiences after adopting a dog from 2nd Chances. Jennifer is by far the worst person to do business with. I spent many weeks of trying to get immunization information from this lady regarding the dog that I adopted and all I received was excuse after excuse. I always gave her the benefit of doubt because she saves animals but right from the start she was super defensive and made snide remarks as if she was impatient with me. After Her lack of response and vague information I was forced to get my dogs 2nd immunizations from a vet which is supposed to be covered in the adoption fee. After her combative verbal attack against me after I asked for a partial refund on past and future covered services I would not be getting from her and not trusting her with my dog and her shoddy immunizations outside of Petsmart(which is illegal) I decided to cut my loses and walk away. Nov, 2018. Jennifer and monica led me on from adopting a pup, named Drac, a Rootie/lab mix, i found on some site. From first inquiry i let them know i reside in Az but my son lives in Riverside and could bring out the pup for thanksgiving and my birthday. I filled out indepth app and sent them virtual vid of our property. They promised to find someone for Home check, but just kept claiming too busy to locate anyone. I began app for pup oct 29 and over two weeks they still ignored me, knowing there was a deadline for my son to pickup pup,if they approved. Even suggested a rescue here, in Prescott, that would have done courtesy check. They let me hope for this darling 3-month pup and just shined me on. No courtesy call or email to deny me. They knew I was out of state and could have just said "no" but said theyd try to find someone here for Home Check but never happened. Jennifer kept responding give her more time, when she promised to look over and vid--5 min out of her so called busy schedule and knowing time for my son to leave ariverside to visit and willing to give up some work time to bring Drac. I conclude they already gave Drac away and just kick me to the curb. Im a person of integrity and i expected such from them. It grieved my heart after looking for so long. I had and continue to have a horrible experience with my pet adoption. I opted to foster after losing my fur baby. Jennifer told me the dog I chose had been with them for 3 weeks. She told us that she also went into heat shortly after they picked her up from a private owner so she had not been spayed or vaccinated yet. After fostering for 3 weeks I adopted her. Shortly after I realized she was pregnant. I was told by Jennifer I could give my dog back, which I did not. After posting this mess on FB I received a call from the MGR. she was upset I posted them in a bad light. The puppies are now 6 weeks old and I still have them. I have had nothing but issues with this rescue. After another argument with the MGR I was told they were not going to allow me to foster my own puppy. Seriously???? Evidently they are not "comfortable with our relationship" Jennifer text me today after I told the MGR that I didn't believe anything they told me. Jennifer explained they were very busy that week and didn't know which dog she was talking about. I responded that busy or not she should review her own paperwork before giving inaccurate info to a possible forever home. They are supposed to be giving my dog her shots and making an appt. to get spayed. I have no faith they will follow through. Please think twice before using them or make sure u verify everything they say because their stories change frequently. read more

I applied to adopt a puppy that was fostered by a good friend/neighbor of ours. Upon receiving great news that we were approved, we went and purchased all the necessities our new puppy needed to pass the home check that was to be performed and let our 2 children know of the home coming of our newest family member. Unfortunately, two days later after our application was reviewed and approved, we were informed that our application was pulled due to the fact that we put on the application that the dog would be an outdoor/indoor pet(which was stated on the app from the very beginning when approved!). My kids were CRUSHED!! The foster family was very upset due to the fact that they backed us 100%. The shelter advised the foster family that they did not know them that well and did not trust their judgement. Without even given the chance to see what a great home and life we could offer this abandoned puppy we were immediately judged as a bad match. It turned out the owner, Jennifer, stated they wanted the puppy to be indoors at all times, mind you its is a dog and needs to eventually go outside to relieve himself, and that they wanted him to be the only dog in the home, mind you the foster family had a dog of their own. I think the partner who was supposed to do the home check had taken it upon herself and wanted to place the puppy with someone she knew. The foster family bottle fed these pups from 3 weeks old and have the best interest of these animals, far more than some home check clerk, and to tell them their judgement was not trusted in unreal. The foster family was was even denied when they inquired about keeping the puppy they nurtured. They were told that there are better matches out there for him. There are so many dogs that need homes and we were treated as if we were bad pet owners from the get go. I will never consider adopting a pet due to the horrible experience and treatment this shelter has provided for us. Thank you 2nd Chance Rescue, you have ruined a wonderful life for at least one special dog out there looking for a great family. Zero stars in my book. read more
