We attended to celebrate our anniversary and we found the service and food to be excellent. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and was very helpful with suggestions for changes. When the food came out, it was top notch and as several have mentioned, the pork chop was better than Perry's. We went to 34 Chop House for a Sunday brunch and the food and service was wonderful and the remodeled building to be lovely. We got there around 2 and they closed at 3 but they let us stay and talk for a relaxing brunch until we left close to 4. Of the 4 of us, we 2 ladies had the Shrimp and Grits and the men had the prime rib. All the food was great and the shrimp and grits were very cheesy with a tangy Barbecue-ish sauce on it. I had read reviews on Yelp about their desserts and their smoked banana pudding but was initially told they only served it at night. But our resourceful waiter actually found me a serving left in the kitchen and it was wonderful. So, we can heartily recommend the brunch and we also look forward to trying out their dinner menu one day soon where I'll definitely do the smoked bread pudding again! read more

We were disappointed with our anniversary dinner here unfortunately. We ordered 2 wedges and they were fantastic. The bacon, pecans and dressing were on point. Sadly, the entrees were lackluster. I head extremely disappointed with my shrimp and grits. The grits were like oatmeal and not creamy at all. The New Orleans bbq sauce that went with them was overpowering and really tasted like Worcestershire sauce. Hubby had a ribeye that was okay. More of a Bonanza taste than a chophouse steak flavor. All in all, just mediocre at best. read more

We have been to 34 Chophouse on several occasions with no issue; however, tonight did not deliver. We were celebrating our daughter-in-law's birthday and had told them how wonderful this restaurant was. While we had no issue with our waitress "B" and she was spectacular; one of our steaks was extremely overdone and had to be sent back. Everyone else at the table had finished their meal before the steak was recooked. As we were celebrating a birthday, we were surprised when we were charged for the birthday dessert (as it was supposed to be complementary). When this was brought to the manager's attention, she informed us that was was a mistake and would be taken off of our bill. But, this was not the case. We did speak to the owner (outside of the restaurant as to not embarrass the servers or patrons) regarding these issues and were told that the improperly cooked steak cost him $30 ( but we were charged $60 for it). He then handed us $15 for the dessert and told us that would take care of the charge. We were stunned with his arrogant attitude and were shocked that he made it sound like we were the ones at fault. read more

We celebrated our 38th Anniversary here last evening. It is a very pretty restaurant in historic downtown Denison, TX. My only complaint is that I wish we had been seated at a 4 top where we could have sat closer and heard each other's conversation easier. They weren't crowded but they always want to stick couples at 2 tops against a wall. I'm sure if I had asked we could have moved but I chose to make the best of it. Our server was Zach and he was a joy. Attentive, funny, and knowledgeable about the menu. We started with cocktails and they were spot on. We ordered the tempura lobster app on grilled watermelon with goat cheese mousse. The lobster was very good, watermelon fine, but didn't care for the mousse. I generally like goat cheese, but this was too pungent for my liking. I will go for the calamari next time, but as I said, lobster was good and that was the reason we chose it. They have a la carte steaks and sides that you can match yourself or you can choose a completed entree designed by the chef. We both chose the Mayor's cut which was an 8 oz filet with ancho chili sauce accompanied by whipped potatoes. The steaks were cooked beautifully, very thick. I requested medium rare and it leaned more rare in the center, but not enough to send back. The ancho sauce was velvety and delicious. The portion of potatoes was large and they were simple and divine. I couldn't stay out of them. I ordered a red blend and my husband had a beer to go with our meal. The wine and beer list is very nice. They also have a lounge in the back with live music that was nice to hear. For dessert we had their smoked bread pudding with coffee. I would order it again. All in all a very nice dinner. I hope to return in the future to try more of the chef's entrees, especially the Eisenhower pot roast which features beef short rib, which I adore. Was charged for an entire bottle of wine when I ordered a single glass, which was corrected in a professional manner with apologies after we realized it. I took my husband May 5th, for his birthday. There were four of us in all, and all the food was great. The service was incredible. Bryan was our waiter, and he was awesome. Atmosphere is Doc's Lounge is perfect! Jason Starkey for live entertainment on this Saturday night (old soul/red dirt - awesome!) I'm a super foodie, so hubs and I were excited they'd just put out their new menu! We had the Deviled Eggs with short rib, the crab cake (big fan), Mayor's Cut Filet, and the candied Brussel sprouts. Wine is affordable and what I stole of my love's Bloody Mary.. I wanted to fill up on! Our servers were super friendly and managers went above and beyond to make our first experience enjoyable! I would have given 4 stars but for one thing....we shall get to that. Servers were very attentive. The appetizers are large portions. We had the ahi stack as well as the fried calamari and oysters. Both were delicious. The ahi was enough for 2 to share. The oysters ans calamari was a huge order but soooo tasty. This was followed wedge salads. These come with very large pieces of pork belly and appear to be 1/4 iceberg lettuce heads....very very big salads. The buttermilk dressing was very good. Half of each salad is in a to go box.. We had the ribeye and filet mignon. Both were cooked to order, medium rare, but...and here's where they lost a star. Im a big fan of sous vide. But im just as big a fan of a good sear to get the Maillard reaction on the outside. There were almost perfect grill marks but no sear. To save room for dessert, half of each steak went into a to go box as well. We finished with the smoked bread pudding. That was very very good. read more

My husband and I went to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary and it was horrible. Let's start with ordering sour dough bread, but for $6, which most nice steak houses do not charge for sour dough bread while waiting for your meal. We ordered the filet medium rare, split it, one side was done correctly, while my side was medium well. Plus, the steak I didn't think was prime (and I've eaten many filets in my life), which for the price should have been. Tasted more like choice, not prime. And who puts a sauce on a filet? Unless I want a sauce on it, leave it alone, the steak should be eaten without covering it with a very distasteful sauce. The onion rings were so crispy, I could hardly eat them, thinking I could break a tooth, especially for Tempura fried onion rings. The potato whip was tasteless, as was the Mac and Cheese. Very, very disappointed and will not be back. Plus assumed since I told them it was our 44th anniversay, they would at minimum comp a dessert, which they did not, or even wish us a Happy Anniversary. The waitress, wine and sour dough bread were great though. But not good enough to return. read more
