This place is as good as it gets! I am writing this after an awful experience at another salon (which I only visited because of a tough work schedule). I was reminded of how awesome Van and the team are. For any visitors to Philly.. this is the place to go. Here's why: 1. The ladies are genuinely happy to see you! Even if it's your first visit the staff greets you sweetly and is honest about the wait time if any. Regulars come in constantly and they are greeted by name and asked about their families and work week. This is not just any business. It feels like a family. 2. There is no TV! The music is set low and you are there to read, relax and catch up with your technician. Everyone keeps their voices to a moderate volume and it is truly designed to be a mature, peaceful environment. 3. They keep up with ordering the newest polish colors and have a huge selection of gel polish. You can pinterest the color you want and go there to find it! 4. They have another salon just a few blocks away and will sometimes call staff over from the other salon to meet the demand. Although this can't always happen, they are always looking for ways to get you in and out faster. This is the definition of efficiency and they are the best in the city. read more

Writing this review as soon as I stepped out because my (short) experience was that awful. I came in to check out the prices as I have been searching for a new salon in Philadelphia. I asked the receptionist if I could make an appointment for a manicure in person and she said I needed to call. Weird, but okay. I was looking at the menu for not even a minute before the receptionist rudely told me I can take a picture and to leave. I find that to be pretty rude as I have never experienced that at any nail salon in my life and it's not a particularly fancy or even clean salon. The interaction with the receptionist as a whole was a complete turn off from me visiting this salon in the future if this is how they treat potential clientele. read more

Paid for a "spa pedicure" which was $70. It did not include any foot or calf massage at all. The service was miserable. The woman working on my feet then used the restroom halfway through (I have no problem with this part) however, she was wearing the gloves she was wearing while doing my pedicure when she used the bathroom. She then sat back down and tried to go right back to work on my feet WITHOUT CHANGING HER GLOVES. When I spoke up and asked her to change them, she got a big attitude and Google translate showed she was trash talking me afterwards. NEVER going back here again. What a waste of money. read more

Van saved my eyebrows from extreme unibrow territory when I blew through the doors of 4 Sisters yesterday afternoon. After a struggle with the meter outside, which wouldn't take my singles OR credit cards (what else is new, PPA?), I plopped in two quarters and had fifteen minutes to get in and get out. The salon was clean and cute - I was surprised that I had never been there before. Van introduced herself and brought me to the private room, where in less than five minutes, my brows were shaped and looking good. I'll definitely give 4 Sisters a look the next time I need a quickie mani or pedi as well. read more

I love this place so much that I drive 30 minutes to the city to get a pedicure. The atmosphere is really clean, they're never too crowded, and all of the ladies are pleasant. While getting a pedicure they're focused and they give a great GREAT leg and foot massage. I love the exfoliation and the lemon juice addition. They have great brands like OPI and ESSIE. The color wall is very organized too, which you don't see everywhere. I feel like those details show that they care about their customers. I appreciate that. The place is extremely clean and neat. You can certainly tell that they always take care of the nail equipment and working station very well. The workers dont rush but instead very attentive to what they doing. The manager Van is just the best person in Philadelphia. She greets EVERY customers with the warmest welcome. In Philadelphia for a three-day conference (what'up, Three Societies!), I had to take some time away from University City and explore historic Philly. Picking the most humid day of my visit to walk around, I got lost after crossing the South St bridge and ambled for ten blocks before finding this air-conditioned oasis. Bright, clean, there was a quiet and efficient ambience. It was 12 noon, and they were able to take my request for a mani-pedi immediately. My manicurist was fairly young and super friendly - I think she was a second-generation of the "Four Sisters". Matter-of-fact about my feet (it'd been almost two months since my last pedicure), she used a razor file, normal file and foot scrub in turn to smooth my toesies. I particularly liked the use of a foot prop to assist her (and me) during the scrubbing, and squeezing a fresh orange over my legs ahead of the massage was a lovely and unexpected bonus. At times there seemed to be confusion amongst the staff as to where certain items were kept (probably not a good idea to store nail files right behind a customer pedicure chair), and I thought some of the other manicurists were a bit impatient with their clients (overheard: "what you mean you no pick a color yet? Pick a color!"), but my manicurist was quite nice. She was a bit too rough with my cuticles, and the way she painted my nails, I felt like she was newer at this gig than the others. I have to remove a second star for the fact that, after removing varnish from my fingers and shaping the nails, my manicurist passed me onto another technician, and she started serving another customer. My new nail technician actually frowned at my nails, and proceeded to refile, shape and de-cuticle once more (a little painful), but to better effect. It felt like I had been a 'practice' for the original girl, only to be finished properly by the second lady. All in all, the experience was fairly standard for a mani-pedi on the East Coast. I've been here twice for a manicure and both times I had a good experience. I've had better manicures, but I've also had much worse. They charge $5 to remove gel if it wasn't applied at their salon. So the first time I went I paid $38 and when I returned in two weeks I only paid $33 since they were removing their own gel. The ladies are very nice and not too chatty which I like. I've been going to Four Sisters for years. The second location has no reviews yet, so I figured I might as well add one. They offer the same great service as the original location, but in a much more spacious, airy environment. The new locations also has more pedicure chairs, more manicure tables, and two well-lit private rooms with doors for waxing (as compared to the original location, where waxing was done behind a flimsy partition, not very comforting when there are 800 people waiting on the other side for their mani-pedis). read more

After weeks of on the job mayhem, I was finally able to 4 Sister's on my quest to find a mani/pedi. And I think the quest might be over after going to 4 Sister's on 21st & Chestnut. Walked in on a Friday around 3pm & it was just starting to fill up. Place was clean & everybody was chatting to either their nail tech or each other. The whole place was clean; smelled clean & looked clean. Clean chairs, tubs...even the work station were neat & tidy. After I was greeted, I was taken to the back to start my pedi. The tech (I wish I could remember her name) was really nice & asked, before anything was started, if I like my callous scrubbed off or if I needed something more intense. I said no. "Ok. Some people need a bit more & I like to let them soak for longer", she said. Seriously, she got a good tip just for saying that; great consumer service. As she was taking off the nail polish from my toes, she suggested I get my toes shellaced or gel nail polish because I mentioned taking African dance & I complained about cracked polish after class. Really good consumer service. From the moment I sat in the chair & the tech filled the tub, she made me feel comfortable & glad I was getting my nails done. My go-to nail salon for the past 5 years has closed, so I've been making the rounds of Rittenhouse-area nail salons trying to find a replacement. While I don't have the same overwhelming feeling of love and attachment to 4 Sisters, it was a solid spot for a mani/pedi and they'll probably be taking Liz's place as my regular spot. This location is larger than their space on 20th St. I was a little thrown off when I first walked in - they were really busy, so it took a while before anyone asked what I was there for, and I couldn't figure out where to sit and wait (there are dryers by the front door when you walk in, but if you walk a few steps farther there are more chairs on your right). They had a nice selection of polish, although I didn't see any magazines lying around - sad, because I love to catch up on trashy gossip while I relax in the massage chairs. Their prices are reasonable ($35 for mani/pedi) and my manicure and pedicure were both fine. I wish the foot rub lasted longer - it's definitely my favorite part of a pedicure. The whole "rubbing your feet down with oranges" thing is nice, although I have no idea what purpose it is supposed to serve. Because of the proximity to my home, I tend to give in to going here every time! I've gotten a lot of mani-pedi's here and fell in love with gel manicures for the first time here. Reason why I say this is an OK place is because the girl who always ends up doing my mani-pedi is rather moody and in a hurry! If i decide to be slightly indecisive about my nail color, she rolls her eyes every time! This is a big turn off. The other reason is that the foot massages are so half-hearted that even a 10 year old kid could put in more effort, IMO! Anyway, the staff is cordial. After a friend referred me to Molly at 4 sisters, I never went to anyone else. They have a huge selection of nail colors and are always up to date with the newest OPI collections. I am reluctant to review nail salons because the experience is almost solely based on your manicurist. My manicurist was polite, moderately paced, and did a clean paint job. The manager was very friendly and three different women came in who you could tell were regulars and received a warm personal welcome from the crew. I find regulars to be a good sign for a salon because they have experienced many of the manicurists. $40 ManiPedi. They scrub your feet with orange slices (unique experience for me) and I thought it was an "upscale" touch to a cheap salon. read more

I'm rating this place on what I want in a pedicure. I'm on fairly strict schedule, and have extremely ticklish feet, so I'm really just after the end game of taming my talons and making my feet look presentable. I got a pedicure service only, I was in and out in 45 minutes, and the pedicurist was sensitive to the fact the I can be a squirmy in the chair. I will never go back. The young man doing my mani pedi hurt me multiple times cutting. An hour later my small toe turned purple and red and was swollen. I had to go to my doctor to be put on antibiotics and pain killers because I could barely walk. I had to cancel my knee replacement surgery scheduled for the following day as they won't operate with an infection. read more
