Went to this restaurant a few times. The food is pretty basic. Nothing terribly bad but seems like frozen and pre made stuff. I just had some cod and some steak tips from here and both were tasty! Also, I loved the rolls. Chewy and crunchy crust. Many restaurants have these rolls though. This is a local spot. So go if you want a local kind of cape cod vibe. The fried chicken is traditional and tasty. The steaks are large and served with vegetables. The sandwiches are piled high. The Happy Hour appetizer is inexpensive. Don't expect anything gourmet, just basic, hearty food, though overpriced like most Cape retaurants. Ambiance: Dark, uninspiring, geared toward retirees. My husband and I had an early dinner this evening at the 400 E. We enjoyed every minute! Our server was Lizzie and she brought us our drinks very promptly and our meal was served quickly as well. My husband had macaroni and cheese with sausage and he absolutely loved it! He is not one who would ordinarily order that kind of food out but we did and he was very happily surprised! I had the spinach salad with roasted scallops which was served with a blue cheese vinaigrette dressing and homemade croutons. Very casual bar & grill atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Not tourist trap prices. This is where you find the local yocals. Get the grilled baby back ribs. That won 1st prize with our party. My margherita pizza had nice fresh basil and fresh diced tomato pieces. The crust was nice and thin, but the sauce tasted like Ragu. The pizza was still enjoyable. One in our group liked the cod, but I did not taste it. Overall, a nice local go-to, place was clean, food came pretty fast, not gourmet, but most menu items were pretty good. My party and I went to 400 East during COVID-19. I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars because the food wasn't great, but the waitress we had serving us was nice, and it was spaced out during the virus. Went here twice during our vacation and both times everything was decent. The first trip I got a nice piece of salmon with a cilantro lime glaze that was very good. Next trip back I tried their thin crust pizza which was also good. Overall it is very typical food served with very typical sides but the quality is there and the price is not bad. I have been twice, the first time I got apps, very well prepared, tasty. The waitress knew the beers on tap, specials, I thought the service and the atmosphere were great. The second time I went, I got their burger with Boursin cheese. I got a very rare burger when it came out. The waitress was nice enough to recook both my wife as well as my burger. Overall I thought the burgers were not so great. Every place can have an off night but all in all 400 east is a nice place to grab apps and drinks after work or before you go out for the night. read more

I used to really enjoy the 400 but the last few times I've been it's been a bit of a disappointment. I got the potato skins and they were over cooked and almost hard, then a burger that left me wishing I had ordered something else. The next visit was pretty horrible, the waitress barely waited on us. I asked if the nachos had any meat in them and she said no. But after we got them and started to eat twe found they had chicken in them and a hair. We waited for the server for over 20 mins but when she finally came back so I could discuss the nachos everyone else was done eating and ready to go. I asked her to take them off the bill since my daughter and I had only one chip outta the order; she did remove the charge. I'm still hopeful that the next visit will be better as I have always enjoyed the food here. It's been a rough few years and I know that the businesses are definitely trying. Have been coming here for years. This place has been up and down, but our most recent experience was really positive. First, on a Thursday night it was not totally empty unlike some of the other places we drove around to. It seemed like everyone there knew the waitresses so that felt like it meant lots of regulars. For apps, got nachos (as usual!) and our friends got steak tips. Said the steak tips were awesome. Nachos with chili were also fantastic. So many toppings it was great. For mains, two of us enjoyed fish and chips which was amazing and a huge portion. Hubby had lobster roll. Delicious and tons of lobster. Well thought we would try it! Lunch on a Saturday was nothing note worty. Not busy and kinda dark like a bar should be. Service just ok nothing special. Not great not bad just average. Orderd mashed potatoes but she stated not till after 4 no big deal but obviously i wanted them for a reason so she shouldn't walk away???? I had to get up to order something else with her for the baby. Mac n cheese was kraft from a box again nothing special. Crab Cakes looked old and smashed with a pan. Stopped in for dinner without reading the previous yelp reviews and we were glad we did. We were greeted very warmly immediately and sat at a booth. The waitress was very friendly, warm, and we felt welcomed. We noticed they had a nice bar with tv's near the center of the restaurant. We began with the house salads which were very basic but the portion was satisfying. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and the margherita pizza. Both pizzas were the size of a large serving plate and one pizza was enough for 2 people. We had leftovers. There was plenty of pepperoni on our pizza and the other pizza had plenty of tomatoes on it. We were very happy with our bar pizzas. We knew this wasn't going to be pizza from NY/NJ but for bar pizza it was perfect. If you want pizza from NYC, don't order it. The place was very clean and the service was top notch. My daughter commented on how clean the bathrooms were. That's a good sign they care. For a Sunday night, the place was packed. Obviously, the yelp reviews aren't hurting this place. Went on a Friday night, was greeted shortly after entering, and after only ten minutes at the bar were seated at a quiet booth for two. Our waitress was attentive and our app(see photo of awesome boneless buffalo tenders) was delivered in a timely fashion considering how busy it was. My prime rib and my wife's entree were hot and tasty. Amidst our travails, including a pandemic that has long overstayed a welcome it never got, when one dines out, it ought to be safe and memorable. And on both 400 East exceeds expectations. Strolling into its surprisingly large and rustic interior, we quickly saw how well-spaced the booths are. (And noting they maintain a state-of-the-art filter system is further proof they're committed to guest safety.) And in an age when the term "casual elegance" is bandied about, 400 East exudes it. Warmly met by our dedicated server, Haylee, my wife and I shared a generous crouton-graced Ceasar Salad (with the best anchovies, requested on-the-side, this side of Lisbon) and a brimming bowl of the Soup du Jour, a feisty Tuscan White Bean with sausage; wonderful but more Sicilian style (read "That's a spicy soupa!"). And parched from the drought, we discovered here the bartending is also world class; a hefty Miami-worthy Mojito and fragrant Montepulciano wine both exceeded expectations. The entree, which we split, came as two nice scallop dishes flanked with huge lemon wedges, white rice (only average) - but fresh chilled slaw. 400 East is a standard 3-star establishment in my book. We went looking for a 'nicer' dinner while on vacay without blowing a ton of money, but still expecting good food and maybe a nice setting. All in all the experience was fine, but I think a bit overpriced. So the food was okay- I had the panko-crusted chicken marsala (okay- kind of like chicken parm but with marsala sauce), my husband had the braised rib ravioli (good), and we split a goat cheese bruschetta appetizer (SO GOOD!). Beside the appetizer, nothing was outstandingly delicious. I'm fine with just okay food, but the entrees seemed overpriced for being so- they were both over $23. Also, I read somewhere that they were all about 'no frills' and focused on the food. There were no frills to be seen- our waitress was not very friendly (not unfriendly, though) and seemed in a rush (it was a Friday night though, so to be expected?) just kind of dropped things at our table as she ran by. The decor was comfy and kind of reminded me of Outback-goes-nautical, but the music kind of through off the ambiance (Top 40 I think, I know I heard Katy Perry and Tove Lo). After eating at 400 for years,you have changed a few menu items.But give a break the house salad is awful, Ceasar is much better,the pickles served with burgers are from 50 years ago. Location, location, location...400 East is in a shopping center off of route 137. The shopping center has a lot of stores in it but almost no restaurants. This is a major thoroughfare so if you are on your way to Chatham, Orleans, or Harwichport, you drive right by it. Because it is in a shopping center, parking is never a problem. This place can get very busy but even when you have to wait, you can get a drink at their bar and I found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. I usually don't like to wait for a table but I found the whole experience here to be pretty painless. This place has been here for a long time so it is well known by locals and by tourists that frequent the area. It is open year round which is also a plus. It is definitely family friendly and the menu reflects this so don't hesitate to bring even your most discerning little diner with you. It is also a pretty crazy place most nights so loud rug rats or teens will not offend! (For that matter, loud, slightly inebriated adults will also fit right in.) The inside is nothing special. There is dark wood everywhere which hides a pretty dull, mall like, interior. The food is solid. They do seem to care how it is prepared and they use better quality ingredients which I give them credit for as many restaurants on the Cape could care less about preparation and quality ingredients. At least one of the reviews cited the lobster roll as being quite ample and well prepared. I thought it was excellent and quite a bargain. They give you plenty of lobster and don't kill it with a bunch of mayo. Many fish dishes here but they also have plenty of other options. I know they claim to specialize in Italian fare but their definition of Italian is really pizza and pasta dishes. Pretty uninspiring. Cajun chicken and angel hair pasta isn't going to be on most Italian menus in Rome... Prime rib is one of their specialties and it has a good flavor and it is ample in size. Portions overall are generous at 400 East and the prices are reasonable. They also have a good bar service so if you just want a drink and an appetizer, 400 East is worth the stop.
