This little 24 hour diner is close to the concert venue ( Matchup Center) we were at tonight and we opted to come here instead of a Denny's. It was late yet there were a good number of people inside. The music was playing Frank Sanatra and the guy sitting at the bar looked straight out of a movie. The food was really good and reasonably priced. The bathroom was lacking but the diner was vintage.

Driving through Phoenix (from LA) on our way to a hike in the middle of the night, so we used Yelp to find us a 24-hr diner and this location seemed to be the only show in town at 4am, so we set the GPS and arrived shortly afterwards. Despite it being 4am and they were empty, the staff were all busy working and cleaning and the spotless restaurant was a result of their hard work. We were greeted warmly, seated and served quickly, and we enjoyed our warm, tasty breakfast that would fuel us through the rest of our drive and thru our grueling hike.

It was late night and I was in the mood for a good burger, I did not want to stop a normal fast food restaurant so I did some searching and found this diner. I ordered the green chili burger with a side of onion rings, I was definitely satisfied. Services was fast and very friendly, definitely made me feel as if I stepped back in time to an old diner, the music, step up and atmosphere was def giving.

Stopped in for breakfast with a friend. Service was good, it's a cute diner and the portions are pretty big. I'll most likely be back to try their lunch menu. The chicken fried steak was ok, but the pancakes were very good!!

Great service, good food & plenty of seating with dog friendly patio. Homestyle cooking with old school diner vibe. Nostalgic & quaint 50's diner.

Why the rewriting of my previous review you might be asking? Ashlee was amazing! Noticed my friend have a headache, so turned the music down. Loved her anticipating our needs and being very friendly from the start to finish of the meal. Sometimes with late night 11pm-1am type stop ins to places, you don't get the best food and/or service. But not at this 5 & Diner! Heck, she even offered drinks to go! Thanks for another stellar visit when visiting after a show at The Van Buren!

A friend told me I had to try their bread pudding and I took my family and had it with ice cream and caramel just may be the best bread pudding in the Southwest and the service was great!

A good bet for some safe, filling comfort food. They have most everything you can think of to eat that a classic American diner would serve. Open 24/7, I bet the diner would be awesome after a late night out or as a hangover cure, as well as for some good simple lunch options. This is a 50's style diner with hula hoops available on the dog-friendly patio and juke boxes at most booths. There's a long bar with swivel chairs facing the mirrored wall with fun, 50's style murals painted along the wall and a specials menu board displayed. Exterior looks like a huge silver Airstream with colorful lettering advertising menu specials & classics. Service is very friendly and attentive. This is a casual and friendly spot. We ordered: - Diner Wings with ranch and blue cheese (nice big bowls of dipping sauce, wings a little dry but ok) - Guacamole Burger with Fries (very delicious and juicy according to Hubs. Our server mentioned they have won awards here for their burgers) - Patty Melt with Fries & Ranch (bread and meat a little on dry side and melt could use more flavor but solid, filling choice) - Cali Benedict & Hashbrowns (perfect Hashbrowns and delicious, moist and flavorful eggs according to my daughter) - Coffee (strong and decent, not like some of the watery stuff and some diners) cream and sugar options at the table - Cherry Coke (yay! My fave and a diner necessity) - Sourdough French Toast with whipped cream and blueberry for the table (nice but a little dry for me. Maybe we should get butter also next time. A butterscotch or berry syrup would be a good addition too) - Apple Pie a la Mode - Apple Crumble (Housemade! Yummm! Look at the big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This was so good) - Root Beer Float (comes with an extra cup of root beer to pour into float as needed) There is a men's and women's restroom available for customers inside. A huge private parking lot is available with lots of parking options surrounding this diner.

Five and Diner. I will confess right here, right now that the family and I have dined here more than forty years. We keep returning. Now mostly on oil change days at the local car dealers. We are dwindling as our septuagenerians and centenarians depart. November 26, 2024 We branched on a veggie omelet, hash browns, a fruit bowl, coffee and orange juice, accompanied by Elvis, Otis Redding, the Supremes, etc from the juke box. The hash browns alone were enough to keep me coming back 40 more years. Brown and crispy - a hash brown model. The omelettw was chock full of veggies, oh and coffee just fine. Our server Kevin was attentive, keeping the coffee flowing. He concluded our meal with a16% senior discount, covering taxes. Thank you Kevin.

Ate the Garlic Mushroom burger so quickly, that I missed the photo. Sorry. But it was tasty! Nice to have the option to trade fries for a small salad. The chocolate cherry shake was probably too much for the meal size, but yea, I went there and not sorry. And a nice surprise with bits of cherries in the bottom as well. Love the 50's motif. Always fun. The indoor seating is limited but there are quite a number of tables outside as well. Come on it for some friendly service and solid food options. My first time here was a nice one.

Ruben with Fried Pickles and banana milkshake

Not feeling too hot came in today for some soup. Never been. Italian wedding soup was quite lovely, nothing extraordinary but definitely got what I came for. Really like the aesthetic of this place and being open 24hrs has the full Diner feel to it. My girlfriend was pleasantly surprised with her meal. Ruben with a side of fried pickles and a banana carmel milkshake. Ruben was good but not great, "pastrami needs some work", fried pickles were very good and had good light breading. Milkshake was the star of the show with having real chunks of banana in it. Even give you the extra bit of milkshake in the tin cup Service was very good and waiter was very kind. Lovely establishment

We ended up have a long night and needed something to eat when everywhere else was closed.

We have been curious…read moreabout this place ever since we stopped and talked to the person seating people while we were waiting for our reservation across the street. He mentioned a pickle martini, which I ordered at lunch and was very good. My wife ordered the welcome burger and enjoyed it except for them getting the toppings wrong. Our granddaughter really liked her mac and cheese and there was a generous serving of sliced fruit. And my Jose Burger had just enough spice and was very tasty. That what's the good. So we stopped here for lunch on a Friday about 12:30 with our 3-year-old granddaughter. Our initial server barely said two words to us and we felt like we were an imposition. When we ordered my wife asked did they have Pepsi or Coke products he said we have bottles and cans of everything, so she ordered a Coke. It was Mexican Coke which is fine, but $5, and it wasn't until we noticed other people had cans of regular Coke and realized he did not give us a choice. When we ordered our burgers, again he barely said two words and did not ask us how we wanted them cooked even though the menu says cook to order. When we got them they were very rare, see the picture, which we're okay with although we would have ordered them a little more done. My wife said no onions on hers, and of course there was onions on her berger. Later we were served by a waitress who was much more friendly and we realize was probably just not there yet when we sat down, so the initial waiter didn't really care what we thought since we weren't going to be his customers at the end. So sadly what could have been a very pleasant lunch was spoiled by the initial waiter, even though the food was good we may not be back.

We LOVED our visit to Diner 50 and this is now my go-to breakfast spot downtown. Everything was perfection. We loved the art inside and outside, music, and vibe. Our server was warm, enthusiastic, and had immaculate timing. We appreciated how playful and passionate she was. I swear she knew the name of every guest who walked through the door, and asked them thoughtful questions about their loved ones or travels. This is obviously a place that people return to and become regulars at. An excellent sign. What we were not expecting (and SO DELIGHTED WITH) was the cat rescue space through the adjoining wall. We are all cat-obsessed, so walking in and seeing a room full of absolute sweeties playing around added 100,000 points to the experience. The coffee? Epic. Served in a nearly soup bowl sized cup (hot) or gigantic mason jar (iced). Diner coffee can sometimes leave much to be desired but this coffee was soooo delicious and strong. The food? So awesome. I went with a classic breakfast plate - eggs, sausage, potatoes, blueberry pancakes. I added a biscuit because the menu said they were homemade and I had to try it. It was exceptional, I would go back just for the sausage and biscuit and coffee. My coworker got the huevos rancheros with red and green sauce and I was massively jealous. Everyone left over-caffeinated with bellies full of delicious food and hearts warm from being so well taken care of by our lovely server and getting to play with kitties. The prices are fair, the food and coffee are delicious and homemade, and the service is exceptional. I am someone who really values being involved with my community, so I feel great about spending my money somewhere that is clearly beloved by my neighbors and pours back into them. Thank you Diner 50 for being such an unexpected delight!

When it came out, the steak was smaller than I expected and pretty chewy. It also seemed much leaner than what I usually expect from a ribeye, with very little marbling. Because of that, it didn't have the tenderness or flavor I normally associate with that cut. I'd still recommend this place overall since my friends enjoyed their food and everything else was good. I'd just personally skip the steak next time and try something else.

All the ice cream sodas are wonderful, but their strawberry ice cream is my favorite by far. The Casablanca (strawberry ice cream and mango soda) is my go-to dessert. The servers are all extremely friendly and make sure your meal is out to you quickly. I've often had times when multiple people come over to check on me if my food is not out yet. Fast forward nine years to 1938, and Fred MacAlpine purchased it, renaming it for his namesake, and operating it as a full-service pharmacy and soda fountain until 1991. It was then purchased by a couple who still own it today and have kept it in as much of its original condition as possible, including the soda fountain, the counter, and the malt machine. When you park and walk to the front of the yellow building, you can't help but feel joy. The storefront windows, the antiques, all of it make you wonder just how far back in time you're going to travel. Once you've stepped foot inside and onto the checkered floor, you can't help but smile at the counter, all of the antiques from decades past, and the wait staff who wears 1950s uniforms. We slid into our wood booth with the tiny jukebox on the wall and immediately got to reviewing the extensive menu. Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING... looked good. Bonus: They have gluten-free bread! My husband chose the cheeseburger and I chose the turkey BLT (on gluten-free bread) - both were delicious! We then opted to share a mint chocolate chip milkshake that was created on the original 1940s machine - something that completed the experience. When we were done, we were fortunate enough to chat with Monica Heizenrader, co-owner of MacAlpine's wth her daughter. She is a very kind woman who is very passionate about keeping the history of this diner alive, even taking to selling antiques (in the other rooms of the building) to help support the upkeep. However, with rising costs and some family challenges, it's getting tough. She was proud to have kept this going as long as she and her family have and even mentioned some of the more notable people that have stepped into the diner over the decades, including Barry Goldwater (a regular), Joan Ganz Cooney (one of the creators of Sesame Street), Frank Lloyd Wright, Aunt Maud, Marshall Good, Wayne Newton (who was discovered by a talent scout there), and more!
