My hubby and I have been here twice now, and it's worth coming back again a third time. First time I had the Yellow curry with Veggies. 2nd time we did a lunch special and I had the Thai Panang curry and it was also really yummy. We also shared an order of crab wonton which we liked. My hubby loves their Drunken Noodle. For its category, this restaurant does a solid job. I would give it 5 stars except for the soup that came included both times with our meals was thin, sparse and not a lot of flavor. (I think if you ordered an entree soup, it would hopefully be more robust. We'll come a third time and I'll try an entree soup.) The place is clean and hasn't been busy when we've been there. We came here for a birthday dinner celebration to accommodate for our group's dietary needs which this place was perfect for. Inside was clean and not busy so we were seated and taken cared of quick. Waitres was friendly and nice. Helpful too with deciding on what to get. We ordered spicy noddles, peanut curry (medium spicy for flavor), and the chef's special char grilled pork w/ spicy chili sauce and jasmine rice. We also had the thai tea with the yelp check-in. Food came out hot and portion size was fitting for price. The pork could've been less overcooked, as it was a little tough, but it was still good. Next time, we might just get the spicy noodles and peanut curry. It was so good over rice. Pork was little pricier. Overall, it was a good experience and tasty. We ordered spicy noodles, crab rag-goons, spicy salad, the fried rice and chicken as our protein, some pork ribs, and the seafood dish. I almost feel like I shouldn't write this review so I can gatekeep this restaurant...I've been here twice and both times were super pleasant. The food is delicious and very cheap! It's great value for the large servings that you get. I love taking people here because it's not too loud or busy. It's a small hole in the wall restaurant, the kind you need for a local Thai spot. In the past I have tried the green curry, the yellow curry, the bbq chicken, and more. All of the dishes have been tasty and authentic. The curry I ordered was decent. The rice that came with it was cold like it was refrigerated overnight cold and hard. Ok I've had many pad Thai in my life span and they were flavorful and on the sweet side. This one on the other hand was sour. I thought that maybe they squeezed lime in it but I kept digging for the source and the tofu I bit into was sour (spoiled) they also used bean sprouts that could've contributed to the sour taste of the dish overall but I've had enough and didn't want to risk exploring this mystery dish. I would've given this place a better review but I am not a big fan of places that serves food that are spoiled. Getting food poisoning is not fun and could kill someone. I used to come to this location when it was Thai Basil. Now it's 5 R Cha Thai and I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, not much has changed, same decor, basically the same food, which is a good thing as this was always one of my favorite lunch spots in this area. So please take a gander after reading. Because it was Happy Hour, a mandatory smile came upon my face. Began with Singha Thai beer. Cheers! Went on to order veggie spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. Nice. The fried tofu was crispy delicious. Both of these came out piping hot straight from the kitchen. Panang Curry-Ordered with chicken and was tasty however a bit too much peanut taste and sweet for me but still good. Papaya salad with shrimp- Now we're talking! Tangy and well made. Shrimp so big that should not be called shrimp! Green Curry-Tender pork with a sauce that had some kick with excellent spice taste. This was my favorite even though it was a bright green color. Yummy beyond. Pad See ew ordered with beef and stir fried with marvelous noodles. Next time I'm not sharing this dish. I want one for myself. The grand finale was a warm Sticky Rice with Mango and brought it all home! The aroma was amazing. So much so, that the table next to us immediately placed an order. Great lunch special! Came here for lunch on a Monday and it was $7.99 for soup, a spring roll, rice, and a large entree that was any curry, noodle, or sautéed dish on their menu. I had the Pineapple Curry which first off is one of my favorite Thai dishes and I feel most places don't serve that, so it's a huge plus that they do. It was very tasty. I got it medium spicy and it was realllllly good. It had a nice kick but my mouth wasn't on fire at all, I probably could have gone one level up I think so if you like spicy you can probably level up. The spring roll was great and service was friendly. Knocked off a star because the soup was kind of cold, and I usually reserve 5s for mind blowing experiences. We went to dinner at this location the other night, after having been to the one on University Blvd a few different times now. Everything was alright but the food definitely didn't have the same flavors as the other place. We ordered the Pad See Ew with chicken, the Massaman Curry with chicken, and Cashew Chicken. The Cashew Chicken was probably the best thing that was served. It sauce was flavorful (even though it was a bit on the salty side) and tasted good with the vegetables & side of rice. I ended up getting the Massaman Curry due to the recommendation of our waiter, but in hindsight, I probably would've gone with the Panang Curry instead. And just a note - even though we ordered everything at medium spiciness, it was a bit more towards the hot side, but we didn't mind. We rounded out our meal with some dessert - the fried banana ice-cream. It was a huge disappointment and I will definitely never be ordering it again. The fried bananas were way too oily and not very tasty at all. The ice-cream was just okay, nothing special. Overall, everything was just alright. There's another Thai restaurant just up the road that offers a more tasty selection of foods so I just don't really see myself going back here. read more

I have been to Thai Basil several times, mostly during lunch. Their lunch menu is very reasonably priced ($7.99), and their lunch hours are quite late (till 3:00 PM), which makes it a very attractive place for me to visit from work. I have tried most of their lunch menu items, my favorite being the drunken noodles with chicken and vegetables. I like the proportion of meat to vegetables they provide, as well as the fact that they serve soup before the meal. I have found the quality of food to be definitely above average, but I have certainly tasted better Thai food. The service is always prompt, and the people are friendly. I will certainly continue to go there for lunch, and would recommend this place to anyone looking for reasonably priced good quality Thai food. read more

There are several Thai Basil restaurants in metro-Phoenix, although they're not all necessarily part of the same chain. I've been to one in Phoenix, one in Tempe, and this one in Chandler, which I've been to most often because it's close to my house. I've had a good experience at every visit. Tonight we both ordered panang (peanut curry) with chicken and shared spring rolls as an appetizer. The food was served quickly, and the waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Our entrées, served with a bowl of white rice for each, were tasty but spicier than usual. We both ordered medium spicy, but within a minute I started sweating and his nose started running. I know people who eat at Thai restaurants for the drenched-in-sweat experience, but that's not for me. Still, 5 stars because I know their medium spicy (normally) is medium spicy. read more

Every bit tasted crunchy as if I was chomping on sugar. The peanut curry was fabulous! I stole a couple of bites from the person I was dining with. Very tasty sauce and loved the heat, though a medium spiciness would be too hot for me. If I go back, I would get the peanut curry instead of the pad thai.
