To be honest I'm quite surprised to see how low this restaurant is rated... although I can imagine how airport quality/service varies I guess. For me, I was seated quickly, and though my server was busy, I still felt that he was attentive and my items were delivered in time. Order this while you're still in NY. We had a waitress named Cash helping us with our order, although ordering via a scan code is easy. We also had two Sunnyside eggs. With a 90-minute delay I needed a place to eat and this was probably going to be my only meal for the day. The place looked nice, so I thought I would give it a try without looking anything up. Going to the desk and asking for a table came back with the reply that they would open at 11:00 AM. Well, since that was ten minutes from now we could wait. Oh, but I could get you a seat while you wait. Okay... why was that even a discussion point? Anyway... The menu seemed good, and I went for the Grilled Chicken BLT Club - thick bacon, lettuce, tomato, BBQ mayo sourdough bread with the Hummus and pita to start. The hummus was a little too loose but at least it still worked for me. The Grilled Chicken BLT however, was a bigger challenge. Overall, the taste was okay, but the chicken was a little overdone to the point where if there was a personal threat in the area I could probably have used it to defend myself. I rarely write reviews, but my experience at 5ive Steak was disappointing from start to finish. First, before you even receive service or food, the server immediately takes your credit card and processes the charge along with a tip. How are you supposed to evaluate service or food quality before anything has even arrived? It sets the tone for a terrible customer experience. I paid $90 for a steak, with no sides and an ice tea. I ordered a ribeye steak and the server specifically confirmed it would be cooked medium. When it came out, it was well-done, dry, overcooked, and nowhere near what I had requested. When I gave direct feedback that I was unhappy with the steak, the server made no effort to address the issue, replace the dish, or even acknowledge the mistake. To make matters worse, once your card has already been charged, there's no recourse for the poor food quality or the lack of service. You're essentially locked into paying for a bad meal and tipping for service you never received. Between the forced pre-payment, overcooked steak, and zero accountability from staff, I cannot recommend 5ive Steak. read more

No one is expecting world class steak at 5ive, but the ones who are desperate enough to chance it (#1) may find themselves in for a rude awakening. I've been disappointed over and over, and because of my disdain for the food court, I have found my way back here in hopes they've improved. It's been nothing but perpetual disappointment. The steaks are rarely (#2) cooked the way I've wanted them. They've either come out well done, medium well, but never like the rare I want. It's been the same with the burgers, which have been either too salty or tough. I've only managed to order the cowboy steak and filet mignon, which have both been mediocre at best. Breakfast is a different yet similar result. I thought breakfast couldn't possibly be messed up (#3) and even then it's bland or very unmemorable. The salads have been a tough sell as has been their seafood options. And of course, everything is airport pricey, which is already a semi-turn off. However, the only thing that hasn't been a 1 star has been the service. They've been much better than the food and probably a big part of my return / hope for improvement. Maybe the green vegetable oil was so the steak could be swallowed? The wedge salad had, well, a Kroger chunk-o-lettuce and some sliced grape tomatoes and store-bought Kraft blue cheese dressing. Working til 12pm on a Friday, Labor Day weekend, with a non-stop flight ahead- I had to book it from Westchester to JFK for a 3:30 flight and famished- all at the same time. But on the plus side, greens, diced avocado and sliced pink radishes were all fresh. But my complaint on my dish was the 3 shrimp with an $8 charge. Really? Additionally, hubs' Rare Tuna was cooked perfectly except there was Guacamole on the inside of one croissant side. The whole equation was super weird. But thank Goodness for Fries since they're nearly impossible to screw up and come straight from the fryer.
