    Pasta Primavera

We dined on 8/2 and LOVED it! Angie was our server and really knew the menu inside out and gave excellent suggestions! We loved starting out with their bread and salted butter, followed by the heirloom tomatoes caprese - sooooo good. My entree was pasta primavera and it was light and delicious and savory! My husband had the striped sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. We each enjoyed a cocktail and really relaxed after a busy day at Monument National Park. 626 was the perfect evening with fabulous service and attention to every detail! We would definitely come back when in the area again.

It's been over 5 years since I've reviewed this restaurant! I was just there last night and it is still as good as it always was. I was not able to make a reservation because it was completely booked when I checked their website. My husband and I arrived at 6:30PM on a Friday night. There were 2 seats at the bar; lucky us! My husband always has the Tanteo Margatini. Former bartender, Kirk's, concoction. He had three last night. It's that good! He calls it "spicy, sweet, yet refreshing ". Spice from jalapeño, sweetness from mango and agave. I usually have the Blueberry Hibiscus Martini. I also tried Pretty In Pink, which is my new favorite! Pretty in Pink was light, sweet, and pleasant on the pallet. Despite the lightness, still got me buzzing after 1 drink. Blueberry Hibiscus, a martini obviously, is stronger vodka taste, with lots of blueberry and floral notes. Very different drinks. I'll change it up based on my mood, haha! To start, always Parmesan Truffle Fries. French fries are my #2 favorite food. My all time favorite fries live at 626. They weigh the portions out so you will always have the same amount of fries. The crisp and potatoness is the perfect ratio. (If you're a fry girl, you get what I'm saying lol.) Blue cheese escargot: flavorful, buttery, garlicky, bubbling hot, soft and tender escargot with slices of baguette to dip in the yummy butter. Calamari-- I didn't have it last night because I couldn't justify ordering a third appetizer but I remember this dish thoroughly. Lightly crisp calamari rings and tentacles, perfectly cooked and tender. I HATE overly cooked, rubbery chewy calamari. You will NEVER get that here. Yummy ponzu sauce to dip. Tempura Cauliflower-- also didn't have last night but another absolute favorite. I had the fish of the moment, which was trout served with purple cabbage and seasonal asparagus. (Another thing I love about 626 is their menu changing based on what's in season. You get that fresh shit!) Trout was perfectly cooked, duh. Flaky, little seasoning, not too much to overpower a delicious filet of trout. Asparagus was also cooked perfect. I hate a mushy, overcooked asparagus. Also love the touch of orange caviar on top. Mid bite, the bartender asked, "is everything tasting amazing?" Yes, yes, yes. Literally no other restaurant can ask this question. My husband had the black angus tenderloin. They recommend medium rare, so of course we have to do it that way. It was tender and delicious. I cut it with a butter knife! We didn't have time for dessert. We were rushing to The Avalon for a show, just 1 block away. But I will tell you my favorite is the crème brûlée. Always the perfect texture and sweetness. Also the almond cake with Enstrom's ice cream added on. My husband and I were there on a BUSY night. Every chair on the floor had a customer. It was loud, but I was still able to have conversation with my husband sitting next to me. Despite the occupied staff, they're always friendly, attentive, warm and waits are minimal. They made sure we made it to our 8PM show on time. (We were 10 minutes early, hehe)

We ate at 626 on Rood and it's a cool little restaurant in downtown Grand Junction. It's a quaint place but gets rather noisy when they have a couple of large groups in for dinner. Service was very attentive and the food was tasty with many of the items sourced locally. Cocktails weren't bad but a bit pricey. Overall, we had a good dinner and would visit again.

Peach napoleon desert was a pure delight.

We have travelled the world over and around, and dined in high-end restaurants very often. This restaurant is on the top 5 of all time. You must try the blue cheese escargots that is an unforgettable taste of delicate sublime heaven. We will be back. The service is also worth a good mention.

Eventually, another bartender came on named Bailey. She was service oriented and took my order. She knew I was ready and I think she understood. I was waiting a good 15 minutes before she got on the clock. It's funny how things work out. Bailey took my order of two hotdog, mustard and onions, and almost immediately the blonde bartender, I think her name is Taryn put dirty plates right in front of me. The dirty plates sat there a few minutes and when Bailey brought the dogs out she took away the plates for my request and apologized. When I asked Bailey for the bill, I was surprised to find a charges of $.50 for mustard and $1.00 for onions. I truly love a good hot dog and these were pretty good. I wish they were grilled, but I came to found out this establishment steams their dogs and they are a grill less & greaseless. Very green and I respect that. But a dog deserves a grill. I give Bailey five stars for service. The other person named Tyron, one star.

I'm a big fan of duck so that's what I went with and going down it tasted pretty good but later than night it was clear I developed food poisoning and was up most of the night regretting my decisions. My wife and I shared the same meals and drinks throughout the day with the exception of dinner so it was evident the duck was the culprit. Amazingly, finding someone that knows how to cook a steak can be difficult. After quick Google and Yelp searches, we learned about the Winery. I made a reservation online, and I'm glad I did because it is a busy place. Located in an alley, the historic building used to house a horse drawn carriage fire station. Pretty cool to think about. To me the building was quite charming. I loved the outside walls covered in vines and the old wooden door that opened into quaint, cozy rooms covered in wood and old bricks with beautiful stained glass windows. I felt like I had stepped back in time to an old timey tavern. When we arrived, our table was ready. We ordered a couple of drinks and decided to go straight for our meal. I decided on the 6 ounce filet. It was locally sourced and wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon. I asked for medium well and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered a loaded baked potato to go with it. It was a delicious meal, and I had leftovers for the next day. For the amount of food we got, the service and the quality of the meal. I would highly recommend The Winery for a date night out or other special occasion.

He also described the filet as very lean, which while true is still a delicious cut of meat. Then he started explaining what the Oscar topping option and it was just too much, so I told him we understood the basics. Our first time, we received a description of the specials and asked if we had other questions about the menu - perfectly appropriate. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops which we've had plenty of time, but these were topped with an apricot chili sauce that totally overpowered the taste of the scallop. All you could taste was the bacon and what tasted like a barbecue sauce - not an apricot chili glaze. We'll never order those again. The steaks were perfectly cooked as always, but the baked potatoes were luke warm and barely hot enough to melt the butter and definitely not hot enough to melt the cheese. We had a show to attend so there was no time to send anything back. At this point, we're not hurrying back for another dinner for 2 with a $300 price tag, which includes a $130 bottle of wine.

I started with the Italian Wedge salad, which was excellent. I'm not a ranch fan, so I had them swap it out for Italian dressing, and it paired perfectly. I always love starting a meal with a good wedge, and this one did not disappoint. For the main course, I ordered the Pasta with Spicy Arrabbiata Sauce. I'm a big fan of spicy Italian flavors -- it's a different kind of heat -- and this dish delivered. The Calabrian peppers (one of my favorite peppers) were perfectly incorporated, giving it great depth and flavor. The spice level was just right: bold and flavorful without being overwhelming. If I had one critique of the meal, it would be the pasta itself -- the noodles were fine, but nothing particularly special. That said, the sauce and overall flavor more than made up for it. I skipped dessert only because the portion size of the main dish was so generous there was no room left. If I had ordered one, it absolutely would've been the tiramisu. Honestly, slightly smaller portions on the entrée wouldn't hurt, but that's not a bad problem to have. Also, the aesthetics of the dining area need some work, feels kind of outdated and old, the tables near the kitchen entrance doors tacky and the tables felt crammed in there, minimal space between tables. It could really use some updates of the interior to bring the dining room up to the experience you'd expect for a $55.00 meal before tax for 1 person. Overall, a very enjoyable meal, and I would go back.

As my expectation for this small but reputable winery grew as the day of the trip was near, today, I have the pleasure of writing this 5-star review to add to others' raves after I had a wonderful time spending 30 minutes at this one of a kind winery a few days ago. Kenneth was the most experienced/knowledgeable wine makers out of all 11 places I got to visit in Palisade mid this week. He certainly knows what wine making is all about and I could taste the precision he puts into each varietal. No wonder his place is ranked one of the top Colorado wineries. Hermosa is small and quaint but big doesn't always describe the success of a/any business. I certainly see that his pride as a wine maker is reflected in the kind of winery he runs: no extravagance, no big/expensive sign. Some great business is not always on the main/busy street; hence the expression, "hidden gem". Ken's winery is a hidden gem of Colorado's wine country is an understatement. His wines are not cheap like other wineries' wines so expect pay $5 to $10 more. But once you have tasted the qualities of his wines after a flight, you WILL be convinced to buy a bottle or two.
