I also had the steak served with a fresh salad of spinach, pears, pomegranate, and goat cheese -- beautifully plated and full of flavor. The service was outstanding. The staff stayed late without rushing me while I enjoyed a lovely conversation with another guest, which says a lot about their hospitality. We were passing through and were fortunate enough to randomly pick this spot last minute. Plenty of vegan options and a very inspired menu... you can tell they put a lot of effort and love into each dish. Our server, Angie, was incredible. We haven't been in for several months. The service was great, as were the cocktails & wine. The duck was good & the halibut was really disappointing. We don't mind small portions... but these where exceptionally small. It's hard to know if/when we will be back. Usually the food is worth the price, but not this time. My wife and I have had many an excellent dining experience at 626 on Rood. The food is excellent, highly creative, and for vegetarian/vegan options, it's the best. Chef Theo and his team are thoroughly imaginative. The mushroom choice is outstanding. So is the seared tuna. My wife and I are personally directly familiar with both choices. Right now, there are some choices that reflect peach season here in the Grand Valley. The ambiance is tops! The personnel know the menu fully, and they are really personable. We dined on 8/2 and LOVED it! Angie was our server and really knew the menu inside out and gave excellent suggestions! We loved starting out with their bread and salted butter, followed by the heirloom tomatoes caprese - sooooo good. My entree was pasta primavera and it was light and delicious and savory! My husband had the striped sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. We each enjoyed a cocktail and really relaxed after a busy day at Monument National Park. 626 was the perfect evening with fabulous service and attention to every detail! It's been over 5 years since I've reviewed this restaurant! I was just there last night and it is still as good as it always was. I was not able to make a reservation because it was completely booked when I checked their website. My husband and I arrived at 6:30PM on a Friday night. There were 2 seats at the bar; lucky us! My husband always has the Tanteo Margatini. Former bartender, Kirk's, concoction. He had three last night. It's that good! He calls it "spicy, sweet, yet refreshing ". Spice from jalapeño, sweetness from mango and agave. I usually have the Blueberry Hibiscus Martini. I also tried Pretty In Pink, which is my new favorite! Pretty in Pink was light, sweet, and pleasant on the pallet. Despite the lightness, still got me buzzing after 1 drink. Blueberry Hibiscus, a martini obviously, is stronger vodka taste, with lots of blueberry and floral notes. Very different drinks. I'll change it up based on my mood, haha! To start, always Parmesan Truffle Fries. French fries are my #2 favorite food. My all time favorite fries live at 626. They weigh the portions out so you will always have the same amount of fries. The crisp and potatoness is the perfect ratio. (If you're a fry girl, you get what I'm saying lol.) Blue cheese escargot: flavorful, buttery, garlicky, bubbling hot, soft and tender escargot with slices of baguette to dip in the yummy butter. Calamari-- I didn't have it last night because I couldn't justify ordering a third appetizer but I remember this dish thoroughly. Lightly crisp calamari rings and tentacles, perfectly cooked and tender. I HATE overly cooked, rubbery chewy calamari. You will NEVER get that here. Yummy ponzu sauce to dip. Tempura Cauliflower-- also didn't have last night but another absolute favorite. I had the fish of the moment, which was trout served with purple cabbage and seasonal asparagus. (Another thing I love about 626 is their menu changing based on what's in season. You get that fresh shit!) Trout was perfectly cooked, duh. Flaky, little seasoning, not too much to overpower a delicious filet of trout. Asparagus was also cooked perfect. I hate a mushy, overcooked asparagus. Also love the touch of orange caviar on top. Mid bite, the bartender asked, "is everything tasting amazing?" Yes, yes, yes. Literally no other restaurant can ask this question. My husband had the black angus tenderloin. They recommend medium rare, so of course we have to do it that way. It was tender and delicious. I cut it with a butter knife! We didn't have time for dessert. We were rushing to The Avalon for a show, just 1 block away. But I will tell you my favorite is the crème brûlée. Always the perfect texture and sweetness. Also the almond cake with Enstrom's ice cream added on. My husband and I were there on a BUSY night. Every chair on the floor had a customer. It was loud, but I was still able to have conversation with my husband sitting next to me. Despite the occupied staff, they're always friendly, attentive, warm and waits are minimal. We ate at 626 on Rood and it's a cool little restaurant in downtown Grand Junction. It's a quaint place but gets rather noisy when they have a couple of large groups in for dinner. Service was very attentive and the food was tasty with many of the items sourced locally. Cocktails weren't bad but a bit pricey. Overall, we had a good dinner and would visit again. read more

I commend him, and we look forward to giving 626 another chance. Based on previous reviews, we were expecting a great meal, unfortunately this was a swing and a miss. I feel the need to go in depth on this review, something I do not do a lot, but well earned in this case. We ordered the Monkfish on the seasonal menu and our adult children had Burgers . The Monkfish had scampi with it, both were under seasoned and uninspired , with the scampi really being an afterthought with no real garlic and butter seasoning. The side accompaniment was supposed to have fennel in it and there was none to be tasted, there was lots of farro. Our kids thought the Burger had very little seasoning as well, although they did like the Parmesan fries. Our service was awful, and our server disappeared mid way through our meal. The entrees took forever to come out, which could have been a result of our server disappearing, but nothing was communicated . Then we asked the person who took over for more diet coke and he forgot. Even worse, we were done with our meal and he remembered that he did not deliver the diet cokes , and asked if we still wanted them and tried to make light of his mistake. Just own the mistake and let it go when you mess up, trying to make light of it was not good. When we got our bill, no refills , we were charged for an extra Diet coke my daughter had, never was it communicated there were no refills. Want to be forced to go to dinner? I made a reservation for dinner a week prior, but that evening I wasn't feeling good and wanted to stay home. So why didn't I? Because this restaurant requires a credit card to make reservations and if you don't show up...well, you can fill in the rest. The irony is that, when we showed up, the place was empty. When we left, the place was a quarter full. On top of that, we got kicked out of our table because someone reserved it. They tried to seat us next to the kitchen door. I asked to move and the host said that the one by the door is a better table than the one I wanted. But after we moved, apparently that table was the only reserved table in the restaurant. I guess it was so bad that not only we wanted it, but someone else bothered to reserve it specifically. The calamari was way over-salted, and my burger was good, but nothing else in the overly complicated menu looked appealing. read more

I started with a Martini, and our waiter was very receptive to what I do and do not like, and the result was refreshing and delicious! We shared a few things for a meal- Oysters Rockefeller (maybe not what I usually expect from that, but pretty good nonetheless. I had the French wine flight and it was very satisfying! A nice selection of other wine flights sorted by type and location. It's a wonderful way to see if you'd like to order a bottle of one type or just try different types. They had a full house (I can see why!) but were great about fitting us in very last minute and accommodated my quiet table request. It was a well-designed and well-decorated establishment which instantly gave me a good vibe. My lamb was cooked perfectly!!! It was a good portion and nice and super rare, just as requested. Not always an easy feat for some chefs but it was on point. I had to refrain from becoming a neanderthal and biting it off of the bone! Our server was knowledgeable about all of their products and spirits which is always helpful. I could tell she took pride in their food and her service. Their menu is seasonal so I look forward to seeing what they have next. I did not know about the social hour they have but I'll be going back to find out because it looks wonderful!
