I was a bit surprised, so I asked if she meant they used decaf tea for the milk teas (bc how else would milk teas be caffeine free?), and she looked at me like I had a second head and said no, it's bc they don't contain coffee. First time trying out 7 leaves and mad that it took me so long to come. There is lots of open space which makes it perfect for studying and is quiet enough to get work done. There are also outlets and parking was easy. I ordered the sea cream jasmine tea with boba which is now in my top five drinks. The sea cream was thick and salty and paired nicely with the tea and I was very happy with the sweetness level. The boba was also very chewy and soft and was a great addition and elevated the drink. I've been wanting to try this place and I was not disappointed. They let you sample stuff! We sampled summer mint and mung bean milk tea. You can't change the sweetness on the summer mint, but you can on the mung bean. I got the mung bean milk tea 75%, but I think I'll try 50% next time. The drinks are really sweet, but that's ok. They don't use powder, which is really nice, unlike many other tapioca places. The black coffee with sea cream is average. It's not sweet, so if you like the full flavors of a coffee, this is the place to go. Jasmine Green Tea with Sea Foam Their sea foam isn't creamy. The green tea is okay. Matcha Soy Tea with Grass Jelly The beverage is flavorful of the soy, but the matcha seems to be lacking flavor. I usually go to Long Coffee (aka previously named Boba Zone) for my coffee/tea fix. But, I wanted to try a new spot, and 7 Leaves popped up with good reviews. They only have takeout. So, no dining in. The staff was wearing masks and there's plexiglass dividing the staff and customers. A lot of the reviews mentioned their house coffee. So, I had to order this drink. I asked for house coffee with milk and an extra espresso shot, since I didn't know if they'd make the coffee strong enough without it. It comes with this sea salt foam cream on top. I forgot to ask for my drink to be less sweet. Next time, I'll have to order it 50% sweet. Anyway, despite how sweet my drink was, it was absolutely delicious. The house coffee was brimming with aromatic espresso flavor, and it was a very smooth drink. I will have to say I'd subtract the extra espresso shot, since I was wired for the rest of the day. I would also remember to make it less cavity sweet. Otherwise, I think this is my new go to spot for coffee drinks in Chinatown. read more

They offer samples, which is nice. I sampled the Vietnamese coffee and Taro milk tea. The Vietnamese coffee has a strong coffee flavor. They offer 50% or 75% sweetness and you can adjust the ice. The Taro milk tea is better than other taro milk teas I've had. It has a particular flavor. They said they use a mix of powder and actual taro root. Besides tea and coffee, they sell macarons. It's definitely a nice spot to hang out with some friends or family. Or just to study or do work. They have power outlets all over. I like that they open late. The wifi is very fast. I was able to stream Spotify and browse the web seamlessly. Note: they lock the restrooms and won't unlock it 30 minutes before closing time. read more

COVID-19: Open, masks AND plastic barrier! Score. I had my first 7 Leaves here at this location months ago, when visiting Houston for a road trip. And now we back! Y'all. I've only had 7 leave's mung bean MT and taro MT. Both are delicious. Their boba is also very chewy and the perfect texture. However, I wish their mung bean had real "lu dou" or mung beans. I'm all about that sandy texture! The taro MT definitely had some bits of real taro, but there should be the option to have more of these things. Some of us boba drinkers are super texture-based folks. Just a thought. I love that they have a repeat customer card. The frequent buyer card works throughout all HOU locations, so get that card. Both locations closer to the city center are open right now even with COVID, but for takeout. All of the employees I've interacted with wear masks, and there's a plastic shield too...yay doing it right, team!! You can call and order ahead, or just order when you arrive. My husband and I have tried this place once before after eating at Sinh Sinh across the lot. The place inside is really nice, rustic, modern. A lot of students come here to do computer work and read it seems. The menu selection isn't the largest, neither is the food, they have macaroons is an array of flavors. This trip we tried Japanese Matcha Soy Tea & Sea Cream Black. My husband is lactose intolerant so his selection was pretty limited. Other places offer lactaid substitute on all drinks but here they come pre mixed. I got a tattoo on my arm, now I want 7 SLEEVES 6 things used to piss me off, now I have 7 PEEVES Adam loved bigamy, ended up with 7 EVES But all the Houston locals love the coffee at 7 LEAVES WHAT This is an insanely massively popular coffee shop from California which has a very Asian flavor and some Vietnamese drinks too, and we were really excited to try it because it's so popular and has been compared favorably to 85 Degree Bakery. We ended up coming back here many many times, partly because of the girl I have a crush on. I would say that we prefer 85 Degree on almost every level except for the service and seating which are definitely better here. Some of the girls that work here are so friendly and we became friends with one or two of them and even saw our other friends from across the street (from Tea Top) here because one of them had a girlfriend that was working here. The drinks are good and sometimes they're great but they're never out of this world. I do think that some of the coffees at 85 are on that Superior level. When you consider how wildly popular this is I actually would even say that it's a little overrated. But then I hate Starbucks too, so I'm not big on a lot of popular coffee chains and I'm pretty particular about what I like. I don't really really really love it where I would come rushing back. I would still just about give it a 5 star, despite its overwhelming popularity, for the service and a couple of friends that work here and the super cute people that are often in here or working here. And some drinks more than others are really good. However where the problem arises is when we bought one of their overpriced (I mean let's face it all drinks these days at these kinds of places are overpriced) drinks that they highly recommended to us, and before we were able to have a sip, it was leaking on me, which freaked me out, and I dropped it - bam - all over the floor. Partly my fault for being clumsy, but partly because the lid/cover was defective. I started cleaning it up myself and then the girl came over to help. She seemed annoyed about it and I did most of the cleaning up work and it was quite extensive and it took me three or four minutes. I then went up to get another one and they charged me full price for it. We were pretty shocked about this because we hadn't even opened the drink yet, and I told them the top was defective, and these are expensive and most places will replace a drink even when you don't spill it all over the place, on request. We were so shocked by this level of lack of customer service and greed that we actually didn't go back again and this was after many many visits. It's also the difference between a five star rating and a 3-star rating because it rubbed us so much the wrong way that we just never felt like coming back. So even though it's not my favourite place, they did lose loyal customers, and I hope it was worth it over the price of the one drink that they did not offer to replace. I'm sure that if the owner or managers read this review they will offer to replace the drink but that's not how I roll. It was when I was just a nobody (average customer rather than yelper) that nobody made that offer and nobody gave a crap, and lots of girls were working that day who saw what happened. So for that reason I now take my business anywhere else and like I said I slightly prefer the coffees across at 85 anyway. And Lee's Sandwiches down the road makes the best Vietnamese coffee in town. But I will still always have respect and love for 7 Leaves despite this shocking customer service experience. And it's probably the most popular spot in Chinatown for drinks. I ordered the oolong milk tea and it was really good on the first sip, but every subsequent sip was overly sweet. Even after getting 50% sweet and letting the ice melt it was still overly sweet. The tea quality tastes good, but the sweetness was overpowering. I had trouble finishing the drink and my gf had to help. I'll need to try an even less sweet option next time. Girlfriend ordered the vietnamese coffee and it was extremely caffeinated. If you want a strong buzz, this is the drink to get. Line was out the door but it still moved quickly. Tried the roasted oolong milk tea and the taro milk tea. Both were ordered at 50% sweetness, but they were still a bit sweet. I liked that they didn't add purple food coloring to the taro! That always makes me suspicious when I see a bright or deeply colored taro drink. So this was our second time at 7 Leaves, first time at this location, and the drinks are equally good! Very impressive in my opinion as they managed to standardize the flavors. We had the Sunset passion, a juice, which was very refreshing. It was the combination of passion fruit juice with some orange juice I think? Definitely a must try. We also ordered the Sea Cream Jasmine Tea (a very well known boba drink - a staple at every boba place) and it didn't disappoint. The tea itself was somewhat bitter and aromatic with a hint of jasmine (recognizable but not too powering). The sea cream was rich and on the saltier side, which in my opinion paired up perfectly with the tea. Some other places will make this sea cream layer very sweet, which seems unnecessary as the drink is already sweet. We'll totally come back here to try other drinks. After hearing all the hype about this place opening their first store in Texas, let alone in the Bellaire part of Houston, I knew they had a lot of competition to go up against. But to my surprise, this just might be my new favorite tapioca shop in Houston! Walking in, the place is clean, brightly lit with natural lighting, and the staff was friendly. They have a good mix of small tables, bigger tables, bar stools, etc with a good number of outlets if you needed to charge your phone or laptop. I'd only study here during the day on a weekday though as evenings and weekends tend to get busy/loud. As far as drinks go, I've tried their house coffee, taro milk tea, assam milk tea, jasmine milk tea, thai tea, summer mint, sunset passion, and mung bean milk tea so far. Everything has been great here, and not overly sweet. My top 2 choices would definitely be their house coffee or taro milk tea depending on my mood. I love this place! I prefer teas that are fresh and do not taste like syrups so this is one of my top tea places. The drinks are always consistent in my experience and the customer service is usually friendly. You can also order on their app and the drinks take maybe 5 minutes to be prepared. There is also plenty of seating inside and parking spots outside if you decide to sit and relax. Even on weekends I have not had any issues with finding a parking spot or a table. My go to drinks are the Mung Bean Tea, Summer Mint Tea and House Coffee. I've also recently tried their Milk Tea and am a fan. First time here on a Friday night & 7 Leaves definitely did not disappoint! Ordered the mung bean, Thai tea, house coffee, and soy matcha. Boba costs 55 cents extra, and it was super fresh and chewy. They offer 2 sizes, and the pricing is fair, which is refreshing compared to how insanely high some boba prices are nowadays (looking at you, KFT). Would definitely order mung bean & House coffee again! Mung bean was amazing and one of the biggest reasons why I'd come here again. It tastes like pandan and wasn't super sweet. Another good analogy is that it resembles Vietnamese Che without all the toppings. House coffee was also really good! I initially was super disappointed because my first few sips were SICKLY sweet, but a few hours later I let the ice melt and stirred in the rest of the foam in, and it was perfect. Not too sweet at all, but not diluted. Resembles the 85° sea salt iced coffee but with a more pronounced hazelnut flavor. Thai tea & soy matcha were just alright. The entire place was packed with what seemed to be high school & college students (probably on summer break). There were lots of tables available and abundant, spacious seating for big parties. We also got our drinks super fast - like within 5 minutes of us ordering. Employees at the register were personable & made the ordering process great. Everyone says what separates 7 Leaves apart from the rest is that it's freshly made, not with powders. Quite honestly, however, I couldn't really tell the difference. This place has been long anticipated in Chinatown. It's located in the same plaza as Sinh Sinh. Parking was crowded on a weekend but there is back-up parking at Hmart. The line was pretty long when we came in but it moves fast. There's a good amount of tables around but it was so crowded that there was almost not enough seats left. Luckily, some people tend to come and go so seats will open up. Very simple decor, a lot of people some here to study which is surprising because it's bit hard to focus. My favorite drink is the myung bean. It has a good subtle sweetness to it. Something that you can keep drinking and not get bored of it. I also tried the taro which was also good.
