Upon arrival - I note there are two establishments (maybe more?) but for sure two dining options. I chose The Barn. There was a wait on arrival at 630p on a Wednesday evening. I was assigned a wait tag (mine was #49 pictured in the photos that I added). The wait was about 15-20 mins. The place is HUGE! They offer serving hours that are posted on the door. The staff greeted me and were friendly. An ample space was provided for waiting to be seated with many options to keep folks entertained by viewing the many antiques and interesting displays or by playing games and activities provided - as well as several long, benches and other seating offered for use during the wait. The food - well let's see how that goes - that will be the next part - this first part has all been just fine! And Now - the rest of the story! The food was awesome. I got baby back ribs (full rack) corn and home fries - plus chocolate cream pie (to go). I ordered unlimited soup, salad and bread bar - the chili was amazing and sweet with good meat and beans - perfect flavor and texture. The salad bar has ample selections including side salads and fruit options/fruit salad. Everything was outstanding - including the venue the atmosphere - the service/wait staff and the food was phenomenal! Come hungry - I couldn't eat it all!

The salad bar was not really healthy as they now low fat dressing and something like craisins to add. The cornbread was amazing and the bread slices were homemade. The soup bar was not vegetarian friendly. My personal vegetable soup is much better however many people were partaking along the choices. The had chili but it would have been amazing to have a no meat option. Going on Father's day made for a longer wait, but sitting by the pond was very nice watching the fowl. The experience was great and we will return on a less busy day. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was rustic.

It's a big restaurant off of a country road with plenty of parking. As of two weeks ago they were doing work on the highway that was kind of unpleasant with grated roads and lane closures but it looks like it will be done soon maybe.... Anyway, it's a large space with a gift shop and shabby chic decor that all appeared to be for sale since everything has a price tag on it even in the restaurant. The service was pleasant enough. The menu has fairly straightforward cafe like offerings of sandwiches and salads. I wanted something light so I opted for the cesar salad in spite of my reservations when it said tomatoes and olives were on it. Weird but whatever chicken, lettuce, croutons and cesar dressing still felt on brand so I went for it. This is not a cesar salad. It was a salad with balsamic dressing of some kind, toasted bread with the crust cut off and a cold chicken breast. And, it comes with bread but I was told they didn't have rye so I ended up with sourdough that was also not sourdough and the waitperson didn't bring it until I was mostly through eating my refrigerator cold chicken. Just, yikes. Additionally, I still don't know how there was rye for my sister's sandwich but I wasn't allowed to order it with my food. As for her lunch, the pastrami was fine but with a lackluster amount of meat. The French onion soup was the only thing that felt reasonable with quality and price. All in all, I think the snack bars or even grocery stores in the area/ Amish country appeared to have better offerings. I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch. The gift shop was cute and reasonably priced so maybe check it out for that but that's it.

Figured we'd give the Amish door a shot since AI generated this as a recommendation. It was $23 a person and another $4 for a coffee. The bill for 4 grownups with the buffet and 2 coffees was $108 on 7/11/26. The dinner buffet at 4pm was one 5 foot double sides buffet. The salad was the same. To put this in perspective, Yoders kitchen is 4 times that. The dessert options, with this paid full buffet dinner was graham cracker pudding or chocolate cookie pudding. The dinner options were breaded fried shrimp, chicken, meatballs, some sort of sausage or kielbasa and a shredded meat of some sort. That's it. That's it. I planned my mother in laws birthday out to the very last minute, to give her the best birthday celebration possible, and I felt so disappointed that this restaurant was so underwhelming.

AMISH KITCHEN COOKING…read more A big restaurant where you'll notice some Amish women working while wearing their traditional white head covering or bonnet. I visited Der Dutchman restaurant for the first time in Walnut Creek, Ohio in late July 2025 with 3 guy friends and 2 female friends. We drove down from Cleveland to visit sites in Amish Country (Millersburg and Berlin). We had just finished touring the Yoder Amish Homes property (over an hour tour in the heat) and after the fun tour we all were hungry for lunch. Der Dutchman came up on a Yelp search so we decided to visit. FOOD (see attached pics) -- Typical home cooking. Served buffet style. Reminds me of Hometown Buffet in Columbus but that restaurant doesn't exist anymore. The menu is large so you will definitely find something that you like. I got fried chicken, shredded beef, mashed potatoes, string green beans, and a side salad. I also got a second plate of food which I think was just another piece of chicken because guests can enjoy "all you can eat"; although, I didn't get too much food neither did I fill my plate up in my original serving. Plenty of options to choose from, including protein (chicken, fish, beef), salads, carbs (rice, mashed potatoes), and dessert. SERVICE -- friendly and efficient. The lunch time was busy but our waiter greeted us, brought water and bread rolls to our table and checked on our table during lunch. If you're visiting Amish country for the day like my friends and I did, then stop by Der Dutchman. It's a well talked about hometown favourite. All 6 of us enjoyed our time. We chose to order off the menu instead of the buffet because we chose for better dinning. Salad and bread came to the table and was delish! As we enjoyed, we overheard the table behind us complain about lukewarm chicken. Kind of disappointing to overhear but we figured it came from the buffet. Our dinners took a while to come out so we assumed ours would be just fine. WRONG! I ordered three-piece dark meat, and it was lukewarm and very dry, like it sat under a heat lamp for some odd reason. My wife ordered three-piece white meat and found it extremely dried out and the skin was very dark almost burned like it stayed too long in the oven. I don't understand what is going on in the kitchen, but this is NOT the Der Dutchman that we've known in the past. It was always a pleasure to enjoy home cooked meals there. I'm very sorry to give such a bad review on a place we've loved to eat at but I believe knowledge is power and Der Dutchman should be looking at these two issues with summer travel upon them.
