This restaurant has been recommended to me by several others but today is the first time I've visited! Upon arrival - I note there are two establishments (maybe more?) but for sure two dining options. I chose The Barn. There was a wait on arrival at 630p on a Wednesday evening. I was assigned a wait tag (mine was #49 pictured in the photos that I added). The wait was about 15-20 mins. The place is HUGE! They offer serving hours that are posted on the door. The staff greeted me and were friendly. An ample space was provided for waiting to be seated with many options to keep folks entertained by viewing the many antiques and interesting displays or by playing games and activities provided - as well as several long, benches and other seating offered for use during the wait. The food - well let's see how that goes - that will be the next part - this first part has all been just fine! And Now - the rest of the story! The food was awesome. I got baby back ribs (full rack) corn and home fries - plus chocolate cream pie (to go). I ordered unlimited soup, salad and bread bar - the chili was amazing and sweet with good meat and beans - perfect flavor and texture. The salad bar has ample selections including side salads and fruit options/fruit salad. Service was excellent. The waitress for our section was so busy but remained efficient with a smile! The salad bar was not really healthy as they now low fat dressing and something like craisins to add. The cornbread was amazing and the bread slices were homemade. The soup bar was not vegetarian friendly. My personal vegetable soup is much better however many people were partaking along the choices. The had chili but it would have been amazing to have a no meat option. Going on Father's day made for a longer wait, but sitting by the pond was very nice watching the fowl. Today's lunch included the salad bar including soup. I also ordered off the lunch menu a steak sandwich. It was tender and had good flavor but the cut was like a steakum which if you help up to a light you could see through. They had it folded over on the but like lunch meat. This was a $10 sandwich. No fries I don't think I'll be back. read more

Every time I come to Wooster, we always stop by The Barn. Usually a table of 4-6 people, and almost always the salad and soup bar. I'd say their biggest issue? Consistency. Sometimes the soups are amazing. Sometimes they miss the mark - but never bad. It's exposed wood - rustic throughout, and a lot of corners - and it's big! And every time we have been? It's been fully staffed by all ages, keeping the wheels turning, the tables clean, the salad bar and soups stocked. It's a nice place to grab a meal. read more

Tater tots were ok. Burgers burnt and dried out. The service was ok but it took forever to get two burgers made. The iced tea was good not overly sweet. To start the outside sites were very nice spent 40 minutes feeding ducks, geese and coi fish from 25cent vending machines it ws a really nice time . But then after 40 minute wait walked passed window of the Buffet to see alot of empty tables that had not been cleaned yet people are waiting 40 minutes to get in. Next our drink order was taken and we were told to help our selves, broccoli cheese and noodle soup and a slice of bread not to bad tho my daughters bread was so dry she could not eat it after that came the main food buffet beef roast soaked in what tasted like water yuck little I called BBq meatballs that I found out were meatloaf so dry they tasted like saw dust noodles with no flavor mac and cheese that tasted like plain noodles runny instant mashed potatoes the dressing was straight out of the stove top box. Four of us went there for my Birthday dinner not one enjoyed there meal all of the meats were setting in water or a gravy of some type chicken no selection at all and very dry It was our first and last time we will drive the extra 20 minutes to go south to the Der Dutchman from now on never fails in comparison. to top it off the casher ask how was everything I asked if they wanted the truth she said yes and I told her Golden Corral is better than this crap they said they were short handed but to us thats no excuse for the way the food taste. I have taken my family to the Barn to eat many times before but it was always at the buffet. We had extended family in town so we tried the upstairs restaurant. Got seated reasonably quickly, nice table, ordered our food and waited, and waited, and waited some more. When food finally arrived it was DRY burgers and old crusty mashed potatoes bland food. Literally one of the worst meals I've taken people out to eat, ever. Reminded me of 1982 school cafeteria food. The burgers were so dry but also very small, I tried to order a second burger for my teenage nephew and the waitress said it would take to long to get it out to me, so it wasn't a good idea. Let's just say "First time last time"You look at this place online seems like might be good when you get here most of the meat is soaking in water. Turkey, ham,sausage all in water. Most of food was cold because they didn't turn warmer on at open at 5pm. Sweet potatoes were hot and tasted ok. Salad bar was very good but when it came to eating other stuff than salad it was pretty bland and tasteless. It guess since it's only open on the weekend for the Buffett the food is so old and not fresh and tastes way to bland for any love in the food. The food actually reminds me of my first wife's cooking. Not very good at all. Service was ok people are nice but nothing to right home to mom about. She can over with a pitcher to refill my Pepsi and quite frankly I said no thank you it don't taste like fresh Pepsi tasted like old pop left on shelf for way too long. Atmosphere was not bad, place was fairly clean. I just can't get over the tasteless food we had to eat at 23 bucks per person which includes drink but if you can't drink it what's the point. I did see the location & it is very pretty. There is a cute little shop when you drive in the lot on the left, called "Enjoi" there's another part of the store that takes clothing & money donations & helps domestic violence victims! This review is based on the dinner buffet. If you want processed food in mass quantities that is very salty and basically flavorless, then the $19.72 dinner buffet is for you. It had been years since I had been there and will not have it again. I know that with the amount of people that seemed to enjoy swarming the hot food bar, my review will do little to nothing for the restaurant to actually change and "make" some actual food, not just purchase frozen or boxed food to deep fry or heat it up, but I thought I'd leave it nonetheless for anyone who'd rather pass on paying for such fare. read more

Went here for lunch. We were in the area going to crafty shows and this was recommended to us. We ordered the salad bar which is a giant fixture in the middle of the restaurant. It is also one of the most expensive things on the menu. The salad bar has a great deal of variety and it is very big. They also have about 6 soups and a bread bar. The bread bar is unique. They have various types of breads and butters. All homemade including honey and peanut butter. The peanut butter is really delicious. I had 2 helping of that. And I am not really a bread person. Salad bar has the standard offerings. It was all stocked and kept nicely. The soup options were standard. Best soup is the broccoli. Funny thing is they put noodles in it. Never had broccoli soup with noodles. Good maybe a bit salty. The ham and bean was very salty and kinda bland. Service was very good. Everyone was helpful and nice. It's sad to see a local institution so diminished from cost cutting. We have come here for decades and in recent years they continue to skimp and offer less value. Today we visited and the salad wagon now has no chicken salad and the soups have less and less meat. Then, we ordered one "one trip" salad which is already $9.00. We were charged for a full unlimited visit and then given some grief when asked to correct it. It's too bad. This used to be a staple for us but a 14.00 salad bar is not good value, particularly if they continue to cheapen the offerings. read more

The Barn was a fun little find on our way to a cabin in Mohican. It is very rustic, lots of wood and very warm. The bathrooms are actually super modern, and very clean. The food is great for the most part. Everything has a very homemade taste. The sandwiches were average, but the soup and salad bar was definitely above average. Their broccoli cheddar noodle soup was amazing, and unique, and I would go back again just to have that. All of their salad dressings were phenomenal. Their pies (apple and fruits of the forest) were excellent as well. The Apple dumpling was a bit disappointing. Mediocre sauce over a top thick piece of crust over a rather hard Apple. It's all about the soup and salad bar for me. Typically we grade some crispy onion rings to split then hit the wagon! The variety of options is great - iceberg, romain and spring mix salad, tons of veggies, great potato salad, three bean and macaroni salad, diced ham and bacon bits, cottage cheese, pepperoni, in-house super fresh shredded cheese, pickled beets, diced hard boiled eggs, croutons, and more! For soups - The chili is my hubby's fave - it's thick and filling. Mine is the broccoli cheese soup that's creamy and has the odd addition of spaghetti noodles but I love it! The bread comes as cornbread (classic and a sweet version with blueberries), basic slices and rolls with tasty honey butter and apple butter to top it. I really enjoy this place, there's not too many places the offer such a wide variety in a salad bar anymore. The only criticism I can offer is that my plate is aways to small and I have to make multiple trips to the wagon. The ambience of the bar is just that, of the farm barn. Which is fitting for its location. In the summertimes we love to feed the ducks and just enjoy a nice weekend getaway to another world! I highly recommend a visit! read more

I've been to the Barn several times. I like the atmosphere and the surrounding gift shops in the parking lot. They have unique items but they are pricey. They have 2 levels in the restaurant. The downstairs level is for the buffet and upstairs you can order from the menu. I typically don't go to the buffet. I can't eat enough food to make it worth the price. I generally order the chicken and ribs combo dinner with barn fries and a vegetable. Used to be tender and juicy but the last few times I've ordered it, it was a bit dry. Next time I go, I'll have to try something different. The bread bar is tasty and their blueberry bread tastes like a blueberry muffin. I really like their honey butter spread too. They have fantastic broccoli cheddar soup and a huge salad bar. The service has always been great. When we are done with our meal I really enjoy feeding the ducks and geese read more

Our server was very knowledgeable about the history of the barn and happy to share many awesome facts. We enjoyed a little time by the pond after our meal feeding the very friendly ducks. This place is for people who don't know what real food taste like & rarely leave their home town. Absolutely disgusting! The salad bar looked & tasted as if someone ate at Bob Evans & then threw up at the barn. Not one food item looked fresh...everything appeared as if it came out of a can & was reheated. Left to sit in a steamer for far too long, the green beans were almost translucent, the pulled meat was hard at the ends & nothing was labeled! What I thought was pulled shredded pork turned out to be flavorless beef. Other than pepper & salt; which you'll need a lot of to attempt to get through your meal, were the only condiments available. There was no sauce for any of the three nasty meat choices and no potatoes- wtf? How can you have a salad bar without some type of potato! If you've ever been curious as to what its like to live in a nursing home; the barn is 100% spot on! Dirty, out of date with very little natural light, stale suffocating air & awful food. And those horrible uniforms that the all female staff is forced to wear. I'm all about vintage style attire but this was just painful to look at. The ugly dresses these women have to wear are so thin you could see the light through the bottom half of their dress. And they all look dirty & ... Ugh, I cant even. read more

The food options were better than the Amish country options. Breads - corn bread, white bread, and others with some toppings (butters, PB, etc) Salad Bar - had bacon and slice deli meats but no romaine but iceberg lettuce. The dressings would the typical selection with some low-cal options as well. Nothing super different. it tasted good. Also bunch of dairy salad bar options (coleslaw, potato salad, mac salad, etc) There was the usual hot foods selections with exception to a especially creamy macaroni and cheese. There was also like 2x baked mashers which were outstanding. Pulled beef that was salty and this complemented it nicely. There was some sausage that was in water and lost its oils so it did not have the typical lipid like amino taste, I wish it did. There was pizzas and the rest of the classics (fried chicken, noodles, stuffing,etc) Drinks are included as well and it is like $16.67/adult. Visited on Friday, April 28, 2017. Enjoyed the salad bar and a 1/2 slab rib dinner with onion rings and peas as sides. Very good salad bar with all the toppings. Salad bar includes a bread bar that includes four choices of breads and a hot soup bar. The ribs were OUTSTANDING! Fall off the bone, literally. The peas were fresh and firm and well seasoned. I am always on the hunt for Manners Big Boy original onion ring style recipes. These weren't it, but they were close. Diners can choose to eat in the ground floor menu restaurant or the lower level buffet. This is a fine restaurant, one we will visit on every trip to Wayne County. read more

It's one of the few buffets still around and has more choices than most of the area's Amish style buffets. I drive from Kent to eat there when visiting Wooster. Let's just say if The Barn charged customers based on his/her weight, the average price for regulars would easily pay for his/her gastric bypasses. It's a renovated barn turned into a restaurant. Loaded with Amish, Apostolics, and a sea of bloated white faces wearing oversized t-shirts and elastic waist jeans, it's a wonderful taste of midwestern life and a magnificent way to boost your self-esteem. If you come to the dank, dimly lit basement buffet at the right time, you can wedge your way between a greasy, portly couple to sample a bit of roast beef, fried chicken, meatloaf, pizza, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes and so on. All this costs slightly less than $13. The best time to visit the buffet is when it's crowded to watch the heifers hastily shovel food onto their plates at the hayrack... the food is also fresher as the regulars consume twice their weight in one sitting. If the thought of this disgusts you and you'd like to see sunlight, you may always eat upstairs for under $10 a plate of food. For you health-conscious folk, there's a salad bar upstairs. The Glenn Beck groupies like to believe they're eating healthy by loading up tons of iceberg lettuce onto a plate and slathering it with high-fructose corn syrup. Upstairs, you get a lovely view of the pond and white children wearing Hollister offering ducks empty carb bread. After you're done stuffing 4k calories into your face in one sitting, you may visit the toy, wood-working, or knick-knack gift shop where housewives load up on pointless crap to stuff into cheap, cookie-cutter home on 3 acres of land. After this, you can make your way past the parking lot loaded with Christian-based bumper stickers to the pond and watch the ducks from either the gazebo or swings. Went for Mother's Day because my MIL wanted to. My husband and family grew up going there. The grounds are beautiful with a big pond, gazebos, and swings. We went early because there are no reservations and waited about 10 min. Not bad for Mother's Day. I guess you have to pick when you sign in to eat off the menu or the hot buffet. Weird. We did off the menu. The selection was your traditional old-fashioned fare. Think Cracker Barrel type food. Portions were ok but it tasted like it came from a can. Nothing tasted homemade or overly delicious. Honestly tasted like nursing home food, bland and plain. Service was fine but the meal wasn't great. Won't be back unless the MIL asks to go. read more
