A snowy Sunday in Boston could have kept us cooped up in our hotel room. What a meal this was! Highly recommended by both Yelp and a friend, 75 Chestnut did not disappoint when we needed a Beacon Hill brunch on a Sunday morning. Walking distance from our hotel, 75C is tucked away in a quaint residential area of Beacon Hill that transforms you back to a foregone New England era. Everything about this experience was spot on. Seated quickly (thankfully because it got crazy busy!). Bloody Mary bar was on point. Homemade sticky buns to start - incredible. Lobster omelette, so fresh and tasty. I had no complaints about my experience and wish I frequented Boston more so I could enjoy 75C more often. Hope to be back here soon and can't wait to enjoy another great meal. Charming, quaint, cozy and comfortable tucked into an historic Beacon Hill neighborhood, without being pretentious or over-priced, 75 Chestnut is such a fantastic place to dine if you want a special occasion meal, without an insanely inflated bill. The menu is varied enough to appeal to all tastes, without being overwhelming and sacrificing quality. We split the pumpkin ravioli starter (good lord.. don't over-look this...) and it was scrumptious. We also ordered the fall harvest flat bread and the Atlantic Cod filet as entrees - neither disappointed. The flat bread was piled with delicious toppings, without losing the crunch of the flatbread and super tasty. The cod filet was huge, and the veggies and farro flavorful and plentiful. The service was super attentive and friendly (from the moment we walked in) and my BFs birthday dinner was romantic and special. The food was good but the service was mediocre. I mean, I was dressed fine (skirt and all) but I almost felt like they didn't really want me there. Maybe cause I was just a table for 1. :P The cocktail I had was fine but not worth the $$$ (grapefruit a la mexican). My entree was good (meyer lemon chicken). The bread they serve before was actually tasty (I hadn't planned to partake but it was pretty good). I liked having the cheese platter outside the bar area to nosh on too. Delish. On my 2nd trip to Boston, I had to Yelp for a good place to have my Birthday Dinner. Fortunately for me, Boston Yelpers did not disappoint! I know it's weird, but I was actually hoping for a little wait since I wanted to snag some crackers and cheese by the entrance. Ha! I just got down to business and ordered the clam chowder and an order of pumpkin ravioli. I honestly haven't had any other places' chowder yet but 75 Chestnut made it pretty damn good - really good consistency and taste overall, I could have another gallon of it. Or two. In a bread bowl. Ravioli was also really good - nice and light but just a touch too al dente for me as was the cod and spinach ravlioli. Mussels were plentiful but just slightly on the saltier side. Ok - the 4 stars were for a great first impression - which is al important to us! We had about 30 minutes before we had to go to a 6pm show around the corner. So we wanted a place to have a drink and relax. So a local directed us to 75 Chestnut. A great little place, cozy bar and very very friendly bar staff. The receptionist had two tabes in the window already with reserved signs - but knew we were going to be quick so she let us enjoy what I think is a great window seat table! We had our son, nieces and two friends. It was great. I want to go back and try the food and table service! Looks like the Yelp reviews would suggest thats a good idea! read more

First time in Boston, walking around Beacon Hill and then we found this restaurant (suggested by the guide) on Chestnut rd. The atmosphere is cozy and typically from Boston; we haven't had the reservation so we tried...the lady provided us a table without any problem, but I suggest to book in advance. We tried and will recommend the herb clam chowder and the shrimps' cocktail, you can find cheese and crackers at the entrance if you are hungry...pretty good! As mains we ordered the seafood ravioli with tomatoes and sweet corn and the green fried tomatoes' Maine lobster. I have to say....amazing!!! I would definitely recommend this place, the fish is amazingly fresh and the price affordable for Boston 40$ each! read more

The food here was pretty good, but nothing in particular stuck out with me. I came here with my girlfriend and a college friend for brunch and we got seated at the window. The light was a bit harsh for pictures but the seating itself was pretty cozy. Ask for a window seat if you could. I ordered my classic brunch item: Eggs Benedict; my girlfriend ordered a corned beef hash. As per usual, there were two eggs with the benedict. The first was perfectly done - egg yolk ran onto the English muffin as soon as I pressed it. The second one though, was not runny at all. That said, flavor was still okay and food was still pretty tasty. If I lived in the area, I wouldn't mind coming around to visit more often, but given the vast variety of other better places in and around Boston, I'll probably be trying other stuff. read more

When I asked for one, the "manager" said I'd have to sit in the bar area, since all the open tables had reservations. At 9:00 when I left, there were twice as many open tables as before. We ate here over a year ago but I still remember loving it and have recommended it to people a bunch. It was a gorgeous fall day and we were walking around Charles Street looking for a place to eat. My brother, who used to live on Charles, recommended we go up the side streets and voila - 75 Chestnut! We had my niece (who was just under 3 at the time) and although this place seemed a bit fancy, it was a Saturday lunch, so we figured it was fine. They had a children's menu and were super accommodating. I believe they even gave her crayons? Not 100% sure on that. Sadly, I don't remember exactly what we got - but I remember it was GOOD. My husband and I had a really lovely brunch here. I absolutely adore the decor and ambiance of this place. It feels like you're eating in someone's home and it's just very welcoming and cozy. Service was top notch and professional - our server checked on us frequently but wasn't overbearing. While we didn't order it for ourselves, the bloody mary bar looked great! 75 Chestnut is a cute little restaurant in Beacon Hill. It is has a pleasant ambiance with average food. The restaurant is always packed so I recommend making reservations. They provide cheese and crackers for guests as they are waiting to be seated. I have never really seen this done before so it is certainly something to take notice of. This is an extra service which just makes you feel even more at home in this cozy restaurant. The food is decent, but the portion sizes are small. I ordered the turkey sandwich with house roasted turkey, apple wood-smoked bacon, lettuce. tomato, cranberry mayonnaise, multi-grain bread with field greens. This sandwich was not served with any sides besides a couple of pieces of lettuce. They could have thrown in some French fries or something. This sandwich just did not fill me up. My boyfriend ordered the Tenderloin Au Poivrewhich is char-grilled beef tenderloin with grilled asparagus, garden vegetables, mashed New England potatoes and a brandy cream sauce. I tried some of this and it was good. The mashes potatoes were a bit bland. Again, it just did not seem to fill him up. Overall, my experience here was positive. The ambiance was cozy, the service was good, and the food was average. I only wish the portion sizes were a little bit more generous. This place has a cool vibe and nice interior, but the food was actually disappointing. I was really looking forward to the food since they have a unique/inviting menu, but when I tasted it, everything was just kind of "eh, this is okay." I had the Bibb salad, a cocktail, and the German apple strudel for dessert. I was most displeased with the apple strudel. It had a lot of flaky dough and not enough apple filling. The cinnamon ice cream it came with was very good, though. The cocktail was good, but pricey ($13). They do not post the cocktail prices on their menu, so I did assume beforehand it would be up there in cost. The food prices are right on par with everything else in downtown Boston, ~$15 min for an entrée. On Wednesdays, they do have a special called Wine Wednesdays. It is $32/person for two glasses of wine (you choose two from a selection of four), either a soup or salad (it was lobster bisque or orange beet salad), and an entrée (choice out of three). For an extra $5 you can also choose a dessert, which are normally $10. If you like the choices they have, it's an excellent deal. Parking around the restaurant is resident only, so you'll need to park elsewhere and walk. They do offer free cheese and crackers that is serve yourself. It's a nice accompaniment to start your meal. They have a bar that seats about eight people and three TVs. They let you request specific sports if there's something in particular you want to watch. They don't play the sound from the TVs, though. Other people mentioned service and waiting being an issue. I came around 8pm on a Wednesday and it was not crowded at all. Sat at the bar right away, so that wasn't a big deal. During a recent visit to 75 Chestnut l, I was amazed at how rude the manager was. There was only 1 seat at the bar as my wife and I entered. Granted, the space around the bar is quite tight and I would have understood if the manager had asked me politely to move. He was was not polite at all and rather condescending. The 3 women sitting at the bar were quite surprised as well. We decided to leave and I spoke to the manager on the way out telling him that was no way to treat customers. My wife said something as well and he proceeded to say FU to her as she was leaving. I have never had an experience like that and would most definitely not recommend this restaurant. read more

Just pathetic. Came for brunch and ordered the only two unique New England (lobster) items on the menu: the lobster omelette and Benedict. The only good thing I have to say is that the salad green garnish tasted great. 1. The lobster may or may not have been fresh, the cheese in the omelette didn't go well with lobster and it was rubbery. And the sausage links were questionable... which means inedible. The potatoes were equivalent to a greasy diner serving of hash browns. 2. My boyfriend and I left certain that we were able to prepare a better omelette at home. With a better presentation. 3. Folks at the table next to us didn't clear their plates either and left in a hurry. One guest asked for hot sauce and the waiter told him to pick a bottle from the Bloody Mary bar for himself...implying that the guest would have to LEAVE HIS SEAT to serve himself. 4. When a brunch place is empty with no line but asks if you have a reservation, you just have to laugh. First time to this long standing restaurant in Boston. Our dinner was notably the best aspect of the evening. The roasted lemon and caper chicken was very good as were the marinated steak tips. The skillet cookie was decadent. They had a nice wine list. The service was OK. Our dinner was interrupted with chairs being dragged across the dinning room by the host. The first time that it happened I thought the Red Line was coming through only to realize they were just resetting the dinning room. It's not very often that I enjoy such a flawless experience from start to finish, but 75 Chestnut managed to achieve that for me. I visited Boston for a long weekend vacation in late August and planned ahead of time what neighborhoods/districts I'd want to spend most of my city-time in. Naturally, Beacon Hill and Back Bay took the lionshare of my sightseeing. After a lovely stroll around the area, I was seated promptly by a friendly and efficient hostess. The decor and layout of 75 is initially what compelled me to make a reservation. The tables are arranged rather closely together which, coupled with the low-lighting, lends to an air of intimacy and warmth with your fellow diners. The chairs and tables themselves are wooden and a bit worn but totally make sense with the aesthetic of the restaurant. Not uncomfortable by any means, but also not cosseting leather like some trendy or upscale restaurants these days. I was sat in the corner at a 2 person table with a view of the whole restaurant by a bay window. I was promptly greeted by an amiable and handsome waiter who could not have been more fantastic. I never even had a chance to notice when I needed a refill of tea and his demeanor was highly professional and warm. He was present without hovering which is such a rare trait in dining these days. My check was brought out and closed in excellent time. I ordered the salmon with basmati rice, pineapple salsa, and teriyaki vegetables. I have to say, I probably would not have thought to mix those flavors together but it worked so well! The salmon was buttery soft (never experienced that in a restaurant) and the vegetables were expertly stir-fried. The pineapple and teriyaki flavors melded together rather nicely and the basmati was pleasant. The portion of the plate was generous. In closing, I have to emphasize how wonderful my service was. The young man made the experience and left a good impression of Boston for me (as a Midwesterner, we read and hear...rather unflattering portrayals of MA/RI/NY hospitality). We had such a lovely experience at 75 Chestnut! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and they were extremely accommodating. I asked before hand if they could bring a little dessert out with a candle at the end of our meal and requested a seat by the window. We had a reservation for 6:30 and were stuck in traffic so I called to let them know we would be late and the woman on the phone was extremely helpful and moved us to another table in the bar area by the window so we wouldn't be rushed out by a party arriving after us. Once we arrived, she was so sweet and went out of her way to make sure that the new table we were seated at was okay. We had such a cute view of the brownstones across the street through the large window we were seated at. Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us multiple times to see if we needed anything else (but not in an over bearing, annoying way). The food was very good, I got the lobster gnocchi special and my boyfriend got the tenderloin steak tips. The only negative thing I'd have to say was in my meal, the lobster was just a small tail that hardly had any meat in it. I was a disappointed by the size but it still tasted great. They were also nice enough to store a cake we brought with us and surprised my fiancé with it after dinner. The only negatives were that the service was a little slow and the booth wasn't very deep and there were no coat hooks nearby so my things kept falling on the floor. We arrived to 75 Chestnut after a show at the Boston Opera House. We walked over because of the good reviews we saw here on Yelp and it was one of the only places open on a Sunday night. We were seated in the bar area at a small table that was cozy and offered a view out the window behind us. However, the seats were not comfortable and the table could have been a tad larger to accommodate drinks and dinner appropriately. The restaurant was not busy around the time we came but was open for 3 or so more hours before close. The bartender came over to give us the menus and offer us drinks. Being a Sunday night we chose to just have waters. The bartender was pretty relentless asking if we wanted to put in an order for a drink every time he came to the table. Finally, after we ordered, he put the order in and it came out in about 15 minutes. This restaurant is WAY overpriced for the quality and amount of food you receive. The burger and fries were mediocre at best and the lamb burger was overcooked to a point where it was barely edible. At our waiter/bartender came over once to check on the food and wasn't too friendly at any point during our meal. After our table was cleared and the bill was brought we signed for less than we expected, but the bartender said it was correct. We left a generous tip of 20% considering the so-so service. The next day we noticed he charged us, the tip we left, plus an additional $50 that we did not spend. After calling once the manager not only insulted her own employees to us, but she said she would call us back the next day and never did. She gave us a serious attitude and tried to rectify the situation by taking off the smaller charge; the larger one being the one we did not sign for. After calling back AGAIN when we never heard from her we demanded a full refund for having to chase her down. She pouted, insulted her employee again, and then insulted us as customers. I have not been this disappointed in a restaurant for a long time. TIP: Make sure you check your bill and your bank account after leaving this restaurant. Just because we didn't order drinks doesn't mean the waiter should try and charge us for them because he wants the extra cash. read more

First off the room and neighborhood is great. The only downside is the food and service just isn't. I started with the BLT Wedge which was pretty standard and fine. Not a lot of complaints but nothing to blow your mind. For my entree, I picked the sirloin steak sandwich. I was unsure how this would actually turn out. Would it be like a traditional cheese steak or perhaps a french dip? Instead it was a very iffy piece of meat jammed into a ciabatta roll. It was almost impossible to eat sandwich style, so I removed it from the roll and tried to cut it like you would a steak. The meat was tough, almost grey, fatty and certainly not "medium" which was my requested temperature. My side was fries which were fine and the pre dinner bread was also just okay. The service, while attentive, was just not at a high level. Our waiter seemed disinterested and looked like he'd rather be anywhere else that night. He didn't have a lot of answers and he didn't make a lot of suggestions/small talk. I've been at 75 Chestnut several times and in fact it used to be one of my favorites spots in Beacon Hill. I am even a member of what they call "75 Club". However, I have to say that I've seen how little by little my experience there swithced from enjoyment to disappointment... Here some details of my last visit there: .- Even if we had a reservation, we were not seated immediately but 45 minutes later... I understand that even with a reservation sometimes you can get the table immediately but... 45 minutes later? I asked several times and the excuse was always different and they didn't even make any sense... The reality? In order to accommodate a walk-in group of people, they simply ignored our reservation. Once we finally got the table I had to complain again since they wanted us to sit in a small table (we were 3 and that table was already small even for two people). .- Once we finally got the food, we had another disappointment: the crab cake we ordered as appetizer contained everything but crab meat... The lamb burger with caramelized onions was simply a description that didn't match with what we got (barely cooked onions and a piece of tasteless meat... Asian beef stir fry, which was a special that night and... yes, it was certainly special but I don't know if in the sense we expected... We didn't order dessert (the beef already had enough sugar for the next two or three following weeks...)... The place is cozy, charming and perfect for romantic nights so... I don't know if because of that we sometimes forget what that place really is: a restaurant. I am one of those who tends to "evaluate" restaurants both for its atmosphere and for the food. One of the best restaurants in Beacon Hill. Located right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, the atmosphere is super cozy and is overflowing with typical Beacon Hill charm. We arrived a little early for our 8:45 reservation on a Friday night and were seated right away. They have a lovely little cheese and cracker display while you wait. The restaurant is pretty small so there isn't a whole lot of waiting room. Once we were seated our server was really friendly and attentive. We each had a cocktail which were both very strong and pretty pricey, though that should be expected at a place like this. For our meals, I had the pumpkin ravioli and my husband had the turkey pot pie which was really more of a turkey soup. Both meals were great and the portions were large. Overall I am really glad that I have this restaurant in my neighborhood and will be back for sure. read more

I would've eaten it anyway but the person who brought it out whisked it away before I could tell her. Our waiter seemed to forget us a lot. When I finally got his attention and told him this, he went to the kitchen then said they were now going to correct it. I had to wait for him to get it started. The correct meal came out quickly and was great, but after our plates were cleared we sat there for around 20 minutes before we could flag him down to order tea. We didn't want a "pub style" experience, which are easy and cheap to come by in Boston. Based on the reviews of this restaurant, we hopped into an Uber and came up the hill to check it out. Beacon Hill is primarily residential and so you could easily have walked by this unassuming restaurant without evening noticing it. The clientele on this particular evening (Monday night in Boston) seemed to be primarily local, and fortunately I think we might have been the only tourists there that evening. We had an excellent experience here - we loved how warm and friendly the staff were, and very attentive as well. My beau and I decided to split an appetizer and a main course, which was the perfect amount of food for us both. We ordered a glass of their Rose, which was perfect for the summer evening heat. In hindsight we should have actually just ordered the bottle! Guess we didn't expect it to be so tasty! For an appetizer, we started with the steamed mussels, which I personally could eat every day! They were delicious and I asked for a spoon so I could slurp up the remaining juices which were left over after the mussels were devoured. Then for a main course we wanted to share the special of the day which was halibut with pineapple salsa and vegetables, and we gobbled up every last bite on our plates. The atmosphere was jovial and polite, not rowdy or loud, and the clientele seemed to know the bartenders and staff well. Went for brunch and was impressed by the selection and seasonal menu. It's definitely not a budget option, but it's reasonable for the Beacon Hill area. My sisters and I especially enjoyed the fall cocktail selections. What prompted me to write this review, however, was the exceptional service. I am lactose intolerant and forgot to ask the waitress if the scrambled eggs I ordered were made with milk. I mentioned it after she brought them out and when it turned out they did she insisted on making me a new plate of eggs without milk. It's rare to see restaurants going out of their way like that, especially since it was my fault! The food was also delicious and all of us were happy with our meals. Yes, five stars for my latest experience there. Our waitress Adna Feliciano made our evening special. The place was mobbed and she somehow saw us walk in and asking the hostess if there was a table. She immediately said come to the end of the bar and got us two seats. We watched her in action helping the bartenders, the servers and of course us.......So I had to write about her. We had a fabulous Burger that was cooked to perfection and a side of calamari that was also great. 75 Chestnut seems to be a popular place. I can understand the initial appeal. A quaint, cozy space on a charming, romantic Beacon Hill street. You're hungry and greeted by a mound of free cheese and crackers. What's not to love? Our night at 75 Chestnut began by telling the host that we were there for our 6:45 reservation, which was met by several awkward minutes of silence and an expression of confusion as they looked down at their Ipad. The host told us that they were waiting for a party to leave shortly, and that we'd be seated very soon. 45 minutes later (yes, 45 minutes), they tried to seat us at a tiny table meant for two. (There were 3 of us). Luckily, a party at a larger table was leaving, so we requested that one. The lack of genuine apology for the long wait made the situation extra annoying. They offered us a free appetizer for having us wait so long. If the food was actually good, I would have appreciated the gesture much more. The crab cake appetizer should have been called stouffers stuffing cake, as it contained no apparent crab meat. I had the lamb burger, with "caramelized onions", which were barely cooked sliced onions, an unappetizing pile of goat cheese, mushrooms and French fries. The bun was stale bread, and the lamb meat itself tasted like nothing, with the texture of what I'd imagine the bottom of someone's shoe might be like. It's hard to eff up French fries, however, the French fries at McDonald's are much, much better. I have no problem with paying a lot of money for excellent food, but charging $18 for this is robbery. Another person in my party had one of the specials, which was an Asian beef stir fry. This one may have taken the cake for the worst. It was extremely sweet, as if the cook just stood there and emptied a box of sugar into it. It reminded me of those Healthy Choice microwave dinners, except one that costs $25. In summary, don't come here if you actually expect your reservation to be honored, the staff to be courteous, or to be served flavorful, good quality, not-overpriced food. And if you're a foodie, especially don't come here, because you will be deeply disappointed, and leave with a much lighter wallet. Horrible Service. Okay, I know everyone is saying help is non-existent, but bad help is worse! This waitress was the worst. Let me describe her as premenstrual. And the hostess wasn't much better. Steak was tough with grisle running right through it. There was no salt and pepper - and this is not the sort of restaurant that assumes you don't need it! The steak knives look like they've been around since World War II. The waitress who claimed to also be a bartender didn't know what Aperol was. She thought I was going to pay for my meal when I was in the middle of eating my main course. The silverware slips into the middle of the plates - extremely poor design - lack of coordination between dinnerware - all around novices. I'm a big fan of 75 Chestnut! I come here often and am a member of their "75 Club" which gets you a free appetizer when you sign up, then 15% off the bill the month of your birthday. Not a bad perk. The bar area is generally buzzing, and they have great (and strong) drinks. The free cheese and crackers are quite the perk too. Downside, prices are a little high - but the food is pretty good. I've had quite a few of their salads and sandwiches, and never been disappointed. Most recently, the steak sandwich was actually one piece of steak, as opposed to tiny or sliced pieces. It's a good sign when you're asked how you want your steak sandwich cooked! One of the best options for a meal in Beacon Hill, in my opinion. read more

Went for brunch yesterday and glad we were able to be seated. The place is small and you should definitely make a reservation even if there are only two of you. Had the lobster omelet - YUMMY! And tasted the Clam Chowder which is also fantastic. read more

The side street charm from outside didn't translate inside with the loud interior. It's relatively cozy but on the edge of cramped, and the although a few dishes are worthy of four stars the atmosphere falls short. We had the lamburgers, something you don't find everywhere, and they were delicious. The room is nice, the bar folks friendly. Don't go if you are in a rush, service is very, let's say, relaxed. We had wanted to sit in the dining room, which was half empty, but the fellow who greeted us said he didn't know how to use their computer to find out if there were free tables, so we'd better go eat in the bar. He added "it would be faster". We'll, the dining room was just as empty when we left as when we arrived - and if the dining room is slower service than the bar, bring your pillow! read more

I went for brunch here after seeing a long line for the paramount! I agree with some other friends here. The place is more on $$$ side. I ordered the raspberry French toast. The dish was topped with strawberries instead of raspberries. I asked the waitress and she told me they missed their shipment of raspberry. It would have been polite if the let me know beforehand. The French toast was ok. Maybe 1 or 2 tier below paramounts. The area is a bit fancier than paramount with more comfortable sitting area. read more
