First visit, Monday 4/20/26. Visiting Boston on a work trip, I had no idea the Marathon was today! Met 4 colleagues at The Red Fox for dinner, a recommendation from a friend of my colleague. Tough to find initially and very unsuspecting upon arrival. As you enter the front door (think like walking into a foyer of a small apartment building) you go down a flight of stairs into the restaurant. Then wow, this place is awesome! Small entry way into the restaurant with a hostess immediately greeting you. The bar is your first view of the place and it was packed. I'd describe it as dimly light, great atmosphere and ambience, almost a speakeasy feel. I'd recommend a reservation. The hostess walked us to our table, walking along the bar line with small 2-4 top tables to our left, we then turned left into the main dining room. 5 of us and we were seated at a horseshoe style table, plenty of room for up to 6 adults. Service was instant, she was friendly and very knowledgeable. We ordered cocktails and a couple apps. The drinks arrived along with bread service. They added small side plates with oils and olives, a nice touch. The cocktails were fantastic as was the homemade bread. A unique twist with my cocktail (kettle one & soda), was the single ice cube that was a long rectangle cube that was so clear you couldn't see it! The cubes length was the same as the tall glass it was served in and didn't melt. For dinner I listened to our server who recommended the Chicken Parmigiana with a chefs twist using a vodka infused sauce, this dish was amazing! This might be my favorite restaurant in the city. I think its food flavor wise is better than the north end. The ambience is amazing. It's very dim lit and moody. Their martinis are always spot on. The Parmesan martini is shockingly good, especially as someone who doesn't like dirty Martinis. The spinach and ricotta appetizer with the sage butter is so good. Arancini was also good. Both times have had the vodka pasta, and the orrechiete. The first time the orrechiete was very al dente, so just asked to cook a little more during my second visit and it was perfect. The decor and ambiance of the place is interesting and vibey. Drinks were great, but on the pricier side. Food was also good and the portions are heftyyy. We only had drinks, but the experience was lovely. We popped in for a quick round, and the hosted was gracious enough to let us sit for one round of drinks before a reservation came in. This is unheard of at so many other speakeasies in the city - normally you're turned away without a second thought! The drinks we got were the Alpine Spritzes and they were so delicious - a perfect take on a spritz for winter. The focaccia was dry (I get that they toast it to warm pieces but still dry and not that good 'chew' that it should have). Our service was very good (unlike other reviews). The appetizers were good - Zeppole and Prosciutto and the Strago...the sauce for this didn't have much depth of flavor. The lasagna was very good and the highlight. The chicken parm was so overcooked, it was dead, dry and tasteless. Honestly, need to re-train staff on this one. Cool vibe, The back bar was amazing! I came for my birthday and greatly enjoyed the ambiance and service as well as the small menu. I took a risk and got the aglio e pepe martini (garlic, parm, and black pepper) and was pleasantly surprised. The garlic flavor cut some of the burn from the alcohol and it paired nicely with my arancini and rigatoni alla vodka. I do have to say that the vodka pasta was pretty spicy which distracted me from the flavor but my tolerance is low. I loved my experience here and will be returning to try more of the menu read more

I was trying to find the extra dirty cocktail club which is behind this place. I sat at the bar and grabbed a drink called Scottish lavender which was a scotch mezcal sip drink. It was very tasty. I didn't have a reservation and was able to seat at the bar immediately. I did come on a Friday night and chatted with the bartender who gave some recommendations of other places to check out in the city. I also got the tiramisu which is definitely for two people but one person if you don't have much before. It came quickly and the service was very personable. The bartender was friendly and made the best drinks on and off of the menu. The pistachio martini was delicious; the martini is offered with or without a scoop of pistachio gelato. Highly suggest if it's still on the menu. To eat we had the Carpaccio, Orecchiette and Malloreddus pastas and Tiramisu to finish. The carpaccio and tiramisu were both amazing. The pastas were quite good, but didn't wow us. They also give you table bread with olives and oil to dip, which was really good! I would certainly go back and try a few more dishes. You walk into a pretty well-lit unassuming building with a small sign indicating to go downstairs. Once you go downstairs and open the door you find the most charming and classic looking speakeasy. All the staff from the hostess to bartender to waitress were friendly and attentive. The bar is a great place to get a drink before dinner or go on a date. The cocktails are innovative and offer a twist to classics. I ordered a seasonal porthole infusion spritz which was light and refreshing while my husband ordered the freezer door and enjoyed it. All food is made fresh which means if you have concerns like making the ragu sauce vegetarian you can ask them to do so. We started with prosciutto & zeppole which was warm and soft and the prosciutto added a nice hint of saltiness. This was by far our favorite dish we ordered of the night. For our entrees we got the rigatoni with vodka and malloreddus. The pasta for both was nice and fresh, however, the dishes did not feel like anything you couldn't find elsewhere. We noticed many people order the lasagna for 2 which looked amazing so we will be trying that next time. For dessert we ordered a tiramisu which was again good but nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered a spring sazerac both were excellent. My next drink I had a bananabardier. It tasted great as well. My entree was bolognese. It was really good. I was very hungry and wolfed it down. The place is kind of hard to find. It's on commercial St and you have to go down some stairs to find it. It felt like a lot more women than men were there. The seating is very red. The bill was $22 foot crudo, $26 foot Bolognese, $38 foot two drinks. I think all in I spent $110. I didn't have a reservation and it was packed.
