This place was so good! And much, much better than the other Italian place just around the corner! My party got the baked chicken/mash/brussel sprouts, gnocchi, butternut squash tortellini, and the chicken pasta. All SO good. You get free bread and butter upon sitting down and the bread was popover style bread. We got the butter cake and raspberry ice cream for desert which was really good too. My only problem was the service was kind of meh, as it was hard to get our waiter to come over for drink refills. But overall the food was really good and the inside was nice looking, with an open kitchen type of style and table and booth options. read more

SERVICE: Host was interesting - not super friendly, but got us seated relatively quickly. We got a seat by a window - so we'll call that a win!! Our server was very nice, but seemed a little overwhelmed. After our first drink we kinda got ghosted...they brought out an entree with no explanation as to why only one person got food. Eventually after we told them no one else got food, they realized they did something wrong and our food came out after some more (patient) waiting. Not impressed with the service. I REALLY wanted some fantastic Italian food to end our trip in Boston. We were within walking distance from the park and the reviews on Google were high - 4.4. I should have checked Yelp per usual. 3.9 stars as of this moment. I try to stay away when it's below 4 because I know how picky I am. We shared everything, per usual, to try more. We started with the tomato soup and beet salad. The tomato soup was savory and delicious. One could hope for more crostinis with goat cheese of course. The beet salad was strange. I feel that it needed to be served atop greens. The fried goat cheese balls on top were what I liked about it. For entrees we did the split versions of the tortellini and the gnocchi. The gnocchi direly needs a little sear. They are so mushy. The flavor is good but the texture is so bad. The tortelloni was under al dente. You could see that the pasta was not cooked through when cutting it on eat. Unfortunately, our server was also the bar tender so he did not make it to our table to offer fresh cracked pepper or freshly grated cheese for the pasta. I think that may have made it slightly better but the massive technical errors were a huge let down, especially at the price point. read more

I've always liked this space and figured it would be fun for New Year's Eve esp since they were serving their regular menu. It was a zoo and our 8:30 res came and went even tho seats were empty at the chef station. There was some reason why they didn't want us there but that's where we ended up after 25 min. That was the not great part, all the rest was 5 stars. Hostess was nice, our waiter was zen calm and sweet, the line cooks were a machine, delicious popovers with our nice pours of wine, chicken liver app was enough for two and def better than the signature steak and cheese egg rolls. My gnocchi w mushrooms and truffle were about $28 and delish. Friend loved his lobster risotto (seemed a tad soupy to me). We had food to take home and even the always orders dessert person couldn't manage. I need to go back much sooner. read more

We went in last night after a show at 9:30 pm. The restaurant was half empty. The maitrade insisted on getting are cell phone number" in case we forgot sonething." This is off putting and an invasion of privacy we repeatedly said" no." We were over charged for special water we did not order and the casear salad was terrible. They put radichio in the salad which tasted terrible and the portion was so small and way over priced! In our opinion the restaurant has gone down hill, with tiny portions, huge prices and the adament collection of personal information. Stay away! read more

I should have written a review years ago. Apologies to Davio's for not doing so. My boss did an annual week-long seminar at Harvard Business School for many years and asked me to find a dinner spot for her seminar group. I asked a Boston friend who recommended Davio's. We booked the private Wine Room and the group had the BEST time! Other groups found out and we had to start fighting over Davio's - I would book the Wine Room a year in advance after losing it the second year (the semi-private space was very nice as well). Working with Laura and Shannon was always a pleasure and over nearly a decade, I heard nothing but raves about the food, ambiance and service at Davio's. Highly recommended! read more

While visiting Boston we were looking for somewhere to get a very late lunch after trekking the entire Freedom Trail. We were parked not far from Davio's and decided to give it a try since we were STARVING. They had plenty of tables when we got there, I want to say it was about 4pm on a Wednesday. No reservation was necessary. We could see right into the kitchen and the staff was mainly standing around talking and it seemed they were all eating too? It was a weird dynamic. The bartender wound up being our waitress and did a decent job. But I had asked her for a sangria- which was not on the menu- and she said she would make one. I unfortunately received a $20 spritzer. I have never had a fizzy sangria- and cant say I care for it. Next time I know just to stick with a glass of wine like my husband. We started with some chicken parm eggrolls as an appetizer- they were excellent. Wish there had been one more! All of the sides are a la carte which is not my favorite, but they market it as being very "customizable". My husband had a filet, I had the short rib. We split a side of the asparagus and the mac and cheese. Both entrees were good, the mac and cheese was phenomenal. We agreed the best one we have had at any restaurant. They gave us a little macaron as we were leaving - which was a nice touch. However was the meal worth $250? I don't know about that.... We found out afterwards that we have a Davio's location near us in Texas. But for the price there are a lot of other options that are just as good. read more

Showed up and had reservations, but had to wait over 45 minutes before we were seated. There was a huge crowd of people also waiting to be seated all crammed in by the front door, so the problem was not just with our table. Picture a line of people at a bakery on a holiday for what the scene looked like. A chaotic mess. Also, no communication from hosts about the long wait (no one came over and told us how long we would have to wait, no apologies for the wait, etc.) - people constantly were going up to the hostess asking how long and were getting no specific answers. Maybe that's just how things go here? It seems insane for a seasoned restaurant to be operating this way. We were on Yelp and OpenTable trying to find other restaurants with open seats nearby, but as it was a busy weekend, there were none to be had. We were commiserating with others waiting, and were seriously considering just doing fast food somewhere and leaving when finally we were called. Once we were seated, we did not receive any apology for the long wait. The vibe was more "you're lucky to have gotten a seat." Service was ok and everything we ordered was very good... but not good enough to put up with the wait and inhospitable treatment. It put a damper on the entire experience and we regretted coming here. Never mind that we ate about an hour later than we expected to - it was close to 9 PM at that point. We had the squid ink conchiglie, the lobster risotto, and the Brussels sprouts. The conchiglie and risotto were excellent, well seasoned and with plenty of seafood. However, our favorite was actually the Brussels sprouts which came out crispy and dressed in a tangy citrus sauce. Service was impeccable, and the server helped us with wine pairing recommendations that worked very well. We also got a table in a separate room where the ambiance was quiet and we could easily hold a conversation with each other. This is an expensive restaurant, but it is absolutely worth it for a date night. We would eat here again. read more

Davio's offers, upscale Italian dining, in the heart of Boston proper, it's affluent Back Bay. It's close enough to the theater district to catch a meal before your show. Sadly, on the day we came for lunch, the service was very, very, very slow... Even though the place was empty. It took a half an hour for us to get our check, after we asked for it, and my friend was late for her doctors appointment. My friend dines there often, and claims this was atypical. I can only review my experience. I ordered the gluten-free pizza, and was pleasantly surprised to find it was pretty good. Keep your expectations realistic. The crust is gluten-free, and not gonna taste like Italian bread. But, it did taste like a chewy pastry bread. Large dinner party (9) to celebrate birthday in Boston- we made reservation & we're seated immediately. Staff during the evening were exceptional. We ordered apps to share that were wonderful: Lobster Bisque, roasted beet salad,spring roll sampler & ousters Rockefeller. For entrees we ordered Spaghettini, veal Tenderloin, Niman Ranch Pork Chop, butternut squash tortellini, 55 day ribeye, & a few sides to share. The biggest hits were the ribeye & pork chop, cook perfectly & delicious. The only slight disappointment was the veal tenderloin; not very hot & not as tender as expected. Otherwise everything was shared & enjoyed, like a family Sunday dinner. Dessert was prepared by the pastry chef for us & it was an amazing birthday cake w/ lemon & blueberries! It has been a long time since the Mrs. and I spent the entire day in town, enjoying the city and doing a little shopping. Location wise, Davio's is conveniently located within walking distance from all the shopping on Newbury Street, and from the Prudential Center.Additionally, once the weather gets warmer, it's perfect walking distance to Boston public gardens. (Great way to walk off all the guilty pleasures of desert). Beyond a delicious meal, their service was second to none. From the moment, my wife and I stepped into the restaurant, we were treated as though we were VIP. The host was very kind and asked if he could take our jackets, which was nice to sit in our chairs without having our jackets getting in the way. Although we did not have a reservation, we did not have to wait long for a seat that day, and the bar was a great place to wait and have a drink. Love the popovers that they served before our meals. They were hot and chewy that we had to ask for another basket to enjoy. When our meal came, it looked like art. It was so beautiful. Beyond the fantastic appearance, each dish was amazing. The clam chowder and lobster bisque was sweet and creamy, with strong flavors of clam and lobster in each respective dish. We shared the Meatball, which we later found out that it's made from a special mix of veal and Kobe beef. The soft texture and flavor packed in this dish is something worth trying. Definitely I great place to come when in town. We will be back again soon. read more

This is my favourite steakhouse in the Greater Boston Area with ample options for desserts! We got the Grilled Center Cut Veal Rib Chop, and fried onion rings as meals. I have to give a lot of credit to their dessert because every single one of them looks so good that I went back a second time with my friends just to get their dessert. We sat at the bar and regardless of how busy the bar was, the service was still excellent and the bartender made sure we were well taken care of. We were in Boston and decided on Davio's for an early. I personally love this Back Bay restaurant but think it can be a hit or miss. Typically I order the fillet but instead I ventured out and tried the braised short ribs and to my surprise they were amazing with the roasted potatoes and arugula salad it was the perfect meal. Stopped here for dinner with a friend before seeing a show. Service was friendly and attentive. The popovers are always scrumptious and the perfect way to start a meal. They had a holiday drink menu which was creative, I had the Christmas margarita which was very strong. We shared the chicken parm spring rolls to start which were absolute perfection. For my entree, I had the ricotta limoncello tortelloni. They accidentally brought out a half order of my pasta (pictured below) and brought me a second portion without charging me (and only making me pay for the half portion). Solo dinner. With 4:30p reservations This might be my 20th time at the Davio's chain. It ranks HIGH on my list of favorites. Please come here for an excellent diner. I learned alot tonite. Let me share. In this specific location, I was sat at what I'll call one of the 4 "limbo" booths. Walking in the venue they are to the right of the bar. They're disguised as restaurant tables - and they are- but my server is the bartender. When I sat at 4:30, said bartender was attentive. Now that dinner is over, there are roughly 35 people at the bar and I now feel ignored. Do NOT accept a table there!! After dinner, I had to ask a passing server for the Davio's signature popovers. Appetizer plates were never removed. Crumbs on the table were never cleaned (I believe this is a Davio's signature touch). I had to approach the host stand to ask to be served dessert. The food was-of course- absolutely delicious and Davio's gets 5 stars for its quality. The server- while I feel was (rightfully so) focused on her bar patrons- was very pleasant. This was our second visit to Davio's at this location and it was just as good as I remembered the first time around. Excellent food, lovely ambience, and great service. Oh btw, before I forget I should mention that the bread here is to die for! They make it all in house and it shows. I could simply fill up on the bread itself :). We started by sharing a couple of appetizers: Oyster Rockefeller and burrata. The oyster Rockefeller was delicious. The Burrata piece itself was small but came over delicious prosciutto with an excellent jam garnish. For dinner my wife and I shared a couple of dishes. I got the scallops risotto and my wife got the tagliatelle with a Bolognese. Both dishes were outstanding -- the scallops were generous and the risotto was a great base. My daughter and her friend shared the lobster ravioli and the rack of lamb special. The lobster ravioli was delicious but heavy. The rack of lamb was amazing. We ended by apple cake -- again delicious. Oh, and the cocktails were great as well. A definite 5 star experience. read more
