Yesterday (Sunday) I had a late afternoon meal and drinks with my Mom at 753 South, and she had a very sudden medical emergency (she's doing fine now), and EMTs needed to be called. Aside from having tremendous food and drink, the staff at 753 South went above and beyond to call 911, clear space, make her comfortable, and do everything you could ever hope people would do to help someone in need. Excellent service and food. Came here on a Friday night and got seated easily. Started with the corn bread which was delicious and huge. Had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. Huge portion of boneless chicken that was very tasty and very creamy mashed potatoes. My friend got the lamb tips with Mediterranean salad and really enjoyed as well. Ms P and celebrated my birthday at 753 South in Roslindale. Very impressed. We shared a Fattoush salad and some lamb meatballs as appetizers. She had an outstanding dish of chicken under brick while I had the best grilled salmon (that I hadn't cooked) in a long while. Can't find fault with any of the dishes. Prices outstanding. Dinner for two with two appetizers two entrees one cocktail one glass of wine one soda and we split a bread pudding and bill was just $90 plus tip. Only negatives are it was noisy hard to converse and kind small but I understand they have started taking reservations! Most assuredly going back. read more

My last dinner in Boston was here. I had the St. Louis ribs, apple fennel slaw, & corn bread. The slaw was fantastic. The corn bread was a Texas sized slab. Light & fluffy. The ribs fell off the bone. Appetizer was a cup of spicy vegetarian chili loaded with cheese. Just enough spice. We also had the polenta & goat cheese twinkie served with marinara & pesto sauce. Was pleasantly surprised when the appetizer looked just like a traditional twinkie. The flavor was wonderful. I prefer marinara to pesto. So happy that 753 has opened. The space is fresh and cool and welcoming. The main room has both a bar and a kitchen bar, high tops and tables. There is a lovely private garden in the back which is a great spot until the temperature goes below 50. The appetizers are good for the most part. I especially like the Polenta Twinkie filled with Goat Cheese. I wouldn't ordinarily order something described as a Twinkie but a friend recommended it and it is a star. It looks like a Twinkie, but the Twinkie is made out of polenta. When you slice into it, warm goat cheese runs out. There is a Parmesan cream sauce on the plate and dollops of marinara and basil almond pesto. I order it every time I go there and it never disappoints. I don't particularly like the calamari and the nachos would be better with corn chips rather than flour tortilla chips. Among the main courses, the chicken under a brick is flavorful and juicy and the salmon is nicely done. I have found the service to be friendly and efficient. This is another great addition to Roslindale Village which is beginning to take on a very pleasant vibe. read more

Finally got here last night and it was delicious! We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat 3 of us at a high top table which was fine. The wait staff were warm and friendly and the waitress made a point to tell me she'd put my order of chicken under a brick in right away because it generally takes longer. Wife and I came here for Valentine's Day. It was a busy night, but hostess was able to fit us in last minute. I can't remember her name, but she went above and beyond to ensure we had seats that night. We ordered the Thai chili wings which had great flavor, heat, and were crispy. My wife and I both ordered the steak tips with chimichurri. Steaks was cooked a perfect medium rare, and was well seasoned. For dessert my wife had the cheesecake and I had the chocolate mousse. Both were delicious, but the cheesecake with the blueberry sauce was better. The service was great. The waiter was attentive, and recommended a good wine for us. Overall great experience, and will definitely come back. read more

Really 2 1/2 stars. They have some work to do for us to want to come back. Very loud inside with an open kitchen. Lots of bowls clanging, dishes clanking and other background noise, making it hard to relax. Shared a bland fatoush salad, which should be loaded with mint and parsley but didn't have much of either. I had a very salty lobster roll, which was also too mayonnaise-y for me. My companion had the ribs which were steamed rather than grilled and were disappointing. The accompanying collard greens were too salty to consume and the cornbread was "meh." Drinks were ok. Not a great meal. Not the worst. Not running back anytime soon. read more

Shocked that I haven't written a rave review of 753 South yet! Our family's favorite restaurant in Roslindale Square, both pre-Covid and now. The fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans is about as perfect a plate of food as you can get. We've tried many other dishes on the menu as well, and we're always happy with what we've ordered. They also have nice cocktails, which are available for takeout as well. Went here last night with the husband, we got there around 5:45pm because we were worried if we waited til 7ish we wouldn't get a seat! To our surprise we were one out of four other tables there. When we left around 7, it was getting busy! The patio is awesome, our waitress was super friendly and attentive, the drinks were AWESOME and the food was even better. Everything was so so good that not only did we have drinks dinner and dessert but.......... and here's the kicker..... we went back for brunch the next morning!!!!!!! I've been here a few times now, and each time I have had a great experience. The atmosphere is welcoming, with small tables, a traditional bar, seats at a bar in front of the open kitchen, and a pretty awesome patio out back. The food is always cooked well. I've had the steak tips (cooked just as I ordered them and served with some really great fries), the lobster roll (very full and fresh, also served with those awesome fries), and the chicken under a brick (which took a little longer, but the server warned me and the crispy skin was SO worth it). One time I altered the dish a little with a special request, and someone from the kitchen came right out to my table to make sure they understood what I wanted, which bodes very well for this place. Every time I've been there, it was full of locals, people having drinks with friends, special celebrations, etc and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Oh, and their cocktails list? I want this place to be better because it's in my neighborhood and there aren't enough good places to dine and drink here. Seven Fifty Three South aims to be a kind of neighborhood bistro, which would be a fine addition to the mix of restaurants in Rozzie Square. I'll start with the good. Servers are friendly, the setting is comfortable and aesthetically pleasant and there's a vibe that says, "We want you to like us." It's fall and they have two rose wines on the menu. (For a short wine list, it is moderately interesting.) And now for the not-great. The specialty cocktails are fine conceptually, but lack balance and finesse. The food is just okay. My Cuban sandwich was dry and lacked distinction. The calamari was pub quality, My dining companions said their food was also alright but uninspiring. This is just a side note, not a major criticism, but they have two Mexican-inspired items that are made with flour tortillas instead of corn. I never understand why restaurants do this. It's not authentic, it's less healthy than traditional corn tortillas and it cuts out substantial number of diners who avoid gluten. I avoid white flour so it cuts me out too, and I love Mexican food. I seem to be in the minority as other reviewers seem to love the place, so maybe 753 South should just keep doing what it's doing. But I would be a frequent customer if the food and drinks were a notch better. It doesn't give me a compelling reason to go here instead of numerous other middling places in the Rozzie/West Rox neighborhood. read more

A bit disappointed with our meal at 753 South. The space itself is cozy, and ambiance is nice. We went on a Wednesday night, not too busy but there was a decent crowd. However, our waiter was inattentive, only coming over to take our order. I ordered the fried chicken, which to be honest looked and tasted like something from Cracker Barrel. Used to live in Rosindale and always craved a restaurant like 753 South. Since they opened we couldn't get enough. We were unable to go for about 6 months and missed the place terribly. Returned recently, and they did not disappoint. The vibe is awesome on a Saturday night. Everyone knows they are in for a great night. The staff is warm and friendly, and I don't know what to recommend, as everything is delicious. Loved my first experience here. I am a rozzie local that frequents Delfinos/Sofias/Birchstbistro. This place is adorable. Cute outdoor patio. Menu was diverse. Had the street tacos, calamari, and Mediterranean salad. simple and delicious!!! The food came out SO FAST and the restaurant was filled. Impressive.The waitress was very friendly, very attentive. She checked on us many times to make sure we had everything. My mother got a cocktail from the bar that was EXCELLENT and she is hard to please with cocktails. I've waited to review 753 until eating there a few times. Our first visit (within the first two weeks of them being open) the place was packed and we ended up sitting at the bar that over looks the kitchen which I did not like. Our waitress was very clearly overwhelmed and forgot numerous things throughout our meal (drinks, sides, even forgot what we had ordered when it came to bringing us the correct check). We also had to witness one of the cooks screaming at his coworker which was uncomfortable to say the least. The food, however, was fantastic which is why we gave it another try about a month later - we understood that the place was new and needed to work out some kinks. Our last two visits we have sat outside and had great experiences from the service to the atmosphere to the food. The food is fresh and arrives pretty quickly and hot.
