Took my car in for a smog check on Friday. However due to the battery being disconnected recently, the computer said "not ready" Was told it had to be driven 50 or 60 miles for the computer to have the necessary data. When I came back Monday around noon, the garage was closed and the lights were off. I asked the manager of the gas station, he said that "they just didn't show up today" So now I have to go back tomorrow and hope they actually show up. I called to make an appointment after I purchased my coupon from yelp that was $30 for a $60 smog check. The guy on the phone said to come on in now, so I did. The person that I talked to on the phone is NOT on site. When I got there, the guy acted as if he'd never seen a voucher and had no idea what to do with it. He told me to call back the same number and ask that guy what to do. The man on the phone kept telling me to come to the place. I told him 3 times that I was already there. He told me that I had to pay $40 dollars extra because of the year of my vehicle. He told me that my voucher was only worth $30. I told him that it was worth $60. Then the price went up and I still had to pay $40 extra. He then told me that he needed to talk to the guy and told me to hand him MY phone. I went to find him, but I couldn't. I walked all around in the rain trying to find him. I told the man on the phone that I couldn't find him. He kept saying "he's in the car-check the car". I don't know what car he was talking about since there was only one other car and he was not in it, but then he finally came out of the bathroom. I ended up doing the smog check because I already purchased the voucher and I was there, but it is NOT a bargain by any means. My vehicle did not pass, which had nothing to do with them. I asked him if they retested for free or offer a discount. Again he had no idea and said that I needed to call the owner back and ask him. NO THANK YOU!!!! BEWARE!! BEWARE!! OF THIS PLACE. This is extortion in business. My 74 year old father went after i told him nearest inexpensive place to get smog done today. I looked up on google and it said $28.75 plus extra for certificate. i called them to make an appointment for my father to go and no one answered. My father is poor on English and he asked twice before asian guy got his car keys. He told my father $80. My dad shocked and said he doesn't want. The guy told him we don't have business and i can do in $50 which includes extra fees. He was again confused the price doesn't match and asked the guy about price on the internet is different from which he is quoting. He mentioned its not applicable to his Toyota Sienna and ended up gulping extra money from my retired father. Later, I called and again goes to voicemail. Another asian guy called me back and says did you want to come in for smog. I asked him about this money scam which was extracted from my father, he right a way said he is not the person and he is a supervisor. He asked me why didn't i come to smog check instead. He also accused me that I kept the coupon as secret from my father and so on. I am reporting this business to BBB for further investigation for not ripping seniors off. read more

I needed to find a STAR smog station for my 1997 Maxima and went online. This station was well-rated and not far away. I brought my car in this am with no appt. or wait. Very friendly, quick, efficient and convenient service. I was in and out in 15 minutes, no problems. Price was very reasonable, compared to quotes I received from other stations. They are located at the corner of 150th right next to the ARBYS. If you pass the Hofbrau going towards Oakland, you have gone too far. My family will definitely go here again. read more

My son took his car in for a smog check.The smog technician ran the smog test and the car passed,but the technician then failed the test for a part that didn't pass the visual inspection.??? It seems to me that the visual inspection should be done first.And the fact that the technician has to open the hood and get information from under the hood before starting the test,he should have seen the broken part.And this technician that does this job on a daily basis didn't see the broken part?? I didn't even know what I was looking for, and found it within seconds !!! They then charged my son full price for a retest. I find this to be a highly unethical business practice.I would try to find a smog station that has a more ethical business practice. I will never go to this station again !!! read more

This place has changed hands since I was there last; the technician was quick and thorough BUT I was charged $119 (would have been $128 but didn't pass and didn't get a certificate), which I thought was high; I found out later that I could have had it done many places locally for half that. Just came back from having my car smog checked by the 76 Smog Only Station on E. 14th St. What a great experience. I originally spoke with the owner at the number listed on the ad. He was so willing to work with me on price. He said he would immediately call the person at the station to advise him that I was coming and what the agreed upon price was. When I came to the station, the attendant was so professional and nice. I had had a problem with my smog system which I had had repaired a few days before and so the attendant did a preliminary check to make sure that the system had re-set. It did, and long story short, everything went great. I cannot praise the service that I received enough. I would highly recommend the 76 Smog Test Only Station. read more

I'm not sure about the ratings that I saw here. I called 76 and asked them how much to smog and they wouldn't even give me a ballpark figure. All the other places will tell you over the phone what their usual price is. Anyway, they told me that I had to come in to determine the cost. I went there because of all the positive reviews - only to discover that posted in their garage it says $89 (and change-forget how much). So I asked the guy there, "Is that $90 for a smog?". He says "Yeah. Can I help You?". I told him no and left. I knew that was a ripoff because I had seen a lot of postings from other places and it was usually in the $40 range plus the cost of certificate. Besides, since it's posted in the garage what the going price is, why can't they tell you over the phone? Ask them that. Went down the street to Bayfair Smog at 15768 East 14th, San Leandro and got my car smog tested and certified for $48. The guy, Irvin, was a real decent guy and my car passed with flying colors. Again - don't pay $90 or whatever the going price is at 76. Deal with some honest people and go to Bayfair Smog - that's all I'm sayin'. The shop doesn't look like much, but their not selling "flash". read more
