    Brussels Sprouts
    Donna W.

Let me start by saying this: being alone can be hard, and it feels even heavier around the holidays. Yelp suggested this restaurant, and I'm usually open to trying new places, so I decided to treat myself. When I arrived, there were four women at the front seating guests. I let them know I was there to eat and that I was dining alone. Three of them snickered and giggled together, while the fourth suggested I sit at the bar if I wanted. I couldn't help but wonder what was funny. As I walked away, I asked if I looked funny or if there was something amusing to them. Of course, they said no but the moment lingered. I took a corner seat at the bar. The bartender asked if I wanted a drink. I asked for water, no ice I realized I hadn't been drinking enough water since moving into my new apartment, which I'm also doing alone. While looking over the menu, I saw Brussels sprouts (one of my favorites) and ordered those along with the lobster bisque. The soup came out first and was delicious. Shortly after, the Brussels sprouts arrived. My first thought was that they didn't look good at all. I tried a couple, and they were hard, as if they hadn't been properly cooked. I didn't send them back right away ‍ not because I was satisfied, but because the bartender wasn't checking on me. By the time I was able to get his attention, my pork belly fried rice had already come out. Since I wasn't ordering a full entrée, the lack of check-ins stood out and felt like poor service. If I had been checked on when the Brussels were first served, they could have been addressed before the rest of the food arrived. I had also ordered a Manhattan. It tasted like straight liquor. I don't drink much, and while I love a martini glass and hate ice, I think that sometimes signals to bartenders that I want something very strong. I don't ‍ I want a balanced, tasty, "sexy" cocktail. I asked if it could be adjusted, but the bartender simply listed the ingredients and said there wasn't anything he could do. He eventually suggested adding simple syrup, which helped a little. I stayed an extra 35-40 minutes just trying to finish the drink. I don't like wasting money, especially when I'm trying to do something kind for myself. During that time, a lovely couple sat nearby, and we ended up having great conversation, which honestly made the experience more bearable. I finally sent the Brussels sprouts back and asked to replace them with broccolini but unfortunately, those were just as undercooked. The pork belly fried rice, however, looked great and tasted great. That was the one bright spot. Everything else was just bad, which surprised me because the restaurant itself looks top-tier. I couldn't help but wonder if the kitchen was unhappy about working Christmas Eve, because the execution felt careless. Treating myself ended up feeling regretful. I could have gotten that pork belly fried rice from Bellwether and had a better overall experience. The couple I met had a very different experience with their food and encouraged me to come back again for happy hour. I might consider that but based on this visit, the experience fell far short of what I expected

We were there for a late lunch and sat outside. The outside area is very pleasant covered space. We both enjoyed our food. They have some nice red wine to choose from and a selection of cocktails, including mocktails. I'm looking forward to trying this place again during dinner.

801 was such a vibe! We came early September and it was still warm enough to sit on the patio. It's lit super nicely with soft hanging lights and has a really nice atmosphere. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in my group, and ordered the rolls. I don't know what it is about these rolls but they are insanely good. They literally melt in your mouth- they're a must! I had girl dinner with a steak salad and French fries. The steak salad was SO good. All of the ingredients were fresh and my steak was cooked perfectly. The dressing was home made and was thin, not a huge fan of thick ranch dressing. Our server was awesome and so welcoming. She had a great sense of humor and we really enjoyed being served by her. I highly recommend checking out 801 local if you haven't been, you won't be disappointed!

Happy Houry daily from 4p-6p. Half priced wine by the glass, Bud, and Michelob Ultra. 4 different cocktails for $8. The bar gets full quickly, but you can call to make reservations for one of the bar booths. You can expect great service and upscale atmosphere. The booths are comfortable and roomy. French Dip Sliders (2) $10 - Tasty sliders Tuna Poke Tacos (3) $12 - Crunchy tacos, a happy hour favorite Regular menu - Burger $22 - Smash burger piled high, a bit greasy. Fries were fresh and crunchy (A+). .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2025

I've long been a fan of 801 Fish and 801 Chophouse, so I've had 801 Local on my "to try" list since they opened. The menu and concept are a fun departure from the others and the atmosphere is upscale, but cozy. We started with the Parker house rolls, which were so fluffy and comforting without being dense. I'm not a truffle lover and didn't enjoy the combo of truffle and honey together in the butter, but I can see others enjoying if you like truffles. The steak frites were exactly what I was hoping for - high quality and tender steak cooked perfectly with a chimichurri that was so bright and flavorful. The fries were solid too. I look forward to returning and trying more of their menu offerings, because there really is something for everyone and they have unique spins on some well-known favorite dishes.

Stopped into 801 Local in Frontenac and wasn't sure what to expect, but the place delivers. First thing you notice? The giant English bulldog statue. It's not just a quirky photo op. Strong, grounded, kind of charming in its own way. Felt like a subtle signature of the place. I ordered the blackened mahi sandwich and I'm really starting to love blackened spices. That bold, smoky flavor with just enough heat to wake things up is my fave. The fish was cooked just right flaky and fresh and the sandwich came together so well it didn't need any dressing up. The space is sleek but comfortable, and the menu has a solid mix of refined and approachable items. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially when I'm in the mood for something that feels elevated but not overdone.

In town for some shopping with my mom and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. The place was essentially empty on a Saturday at 12:30pm, and the service was terrible. We could never get the attention of the waiter once he brought out drinks and took our order. He disappeared. The food was brought out by someone else and it was great, but it took well over an hour to have two burgers and fries, mostly because of the wait on the server to bring the check and box up the food at the end of our meal. No refills were ever offered on our drinks. Thankfully the hostess helped once she realized how frustrated we were. Very disappointing compared to our first visit.

We love to visit this spot after shopping at Frontenac. They have incredible happy hour specials, which I feel like has become a rarity. Our recent dinner here was fantastic! Our server, Jada, was so kind, patient, and helpful. The highlights were the oysters, French onion soup, shrimp Louie, and the burger. 801 local has both the timeless classics, as well as modern twists on some more adventurous bites-- truly offering something for everyone!

So glad I finally stopped into this place! Went for dinner with a few friends. We went on a Wednesday night and got a reservation, though it was not very busy. We probably didn't need one. We started with the duck potstickers. So good! We ordered them because we thought they were unique... Well, at least I had never seen them on a menu anywhere. We then had French onion soup. Perfect weather for it, snowstorm at all. It was amazing. I could've eaten 3 bowls! I want it every night lol. For my main, I had the shrimp pasta. It was good. Not outstanding. Would I get it again? Probably not. It had a very creamy, heavy white sauce. I'm not a big fan of that, but if you are go ahead and order! It was good for sure. It comes with 4 large shrimp which were cooked to perfection. It does have a little bit of a spice to it. My other friends split the 14 ounce prime rib. They thought it was very good. However, it came with some mashed potatoes that almost seemed as if they were instant mashed potatoes ha ha. Pretty garlic, but still good. Good parking situation, a lot of space, great service. Our server was very knowledgeable and patient with us while ordering.

First time here and the place has an old school "fancy "restaurant feel with the dark paneling, carpeted floors and the gorgeous coffered ceilings. Service was excellent thanks to our waiter Michael V. They have a full bar, happy hour specials and are kid friendly also note that this is an upscale restaurant so prices are a bit higher and most items are a la carte. The mixed green salad was wonderful especially with the addition of the pistachios. Husband had the Shrimp Pasta and it was delicious, 4 large juicy shrimp in a slightly spicy cream sauce and homemade pasta. I had the ChickenPiccata and the chicken was moist and tender but I thought the sauce was rather lacking in flavor . The bread was delicious and hot and loved the honey butter and the Martinis were spot on.

We're not regulars by any stretch of the imagination, but we've been here a number of times over the years. Sometimes it's just my husband and me, sometimes family members join us, and we've brought friends here as well. Nobody has ever not been happy they came here! We had a reservation and were greeted and seated right away. They have a big blackboard where they write the special drinks of the day, so I always have to check that out! They have small plates and entrees there. We almost always do all small plates. The exception is the shrimp and grits because we really like it! This time we did all small plates. The stuffed portabellini mushrooms were a newer menu item and they were SO good! I could have ordered more of those and been fine without anything else! Our next favorite was the oven baked goat cheese. We literally get it every time we come here and it's always delicious. Then we had the Nashville Chicken Sliders. They're good, but nothing super special. Our last item was the short rib street tacos. I'll just say we won't order them again. They weren't bad, but they were lacking in flavor. My cocktail was from the specials list. It was the Bitter Bonfire - made with mezcal - and it was so good! I think my husband had a Manhattan. We will, of course, be back again!

They were served with marinara and a serrano dill aioli. The aioli had just the right amount of spice, complementing the dill flavor. The marinara was saucy and also good. I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger with fries. The burger was juicy, sweet, and had a nice crunch. The bacon jam was subtle, but it enhanced the overall flavor. My only complaint was that the bottom bun came out a bit soggy causing the burger to lose structure as I ate it. The fries were thin and crunchy! It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold.
